Bentley stars as Rovers go through
David Bentley hit a sweet volley to send Blackburn on their way to a 2-0 second leg UEFA Cup win over MyPa tonight. The midfielder smashed home the opener from a corss by Gamst-Pedersen , while Jason Roberts capped the night with a second from Matt Derbyshire’s knock down late on.
Mark Hughes rotated things bringing in Roberts and Rigters up front and Mokoena and Tugay in midfield. Interestingly he opted for a Nelson/Ooijer pairing in central defence which maybe hints that Samba’s place is now under threat or at least subject to rotation. Samba wasn’t even on the bench but there was no news of an injury on the night. McCarthy, Santa Cruz, Savage and Dunn should all return for the visit of City at the weekend however.

Samba has been in bed with a stomach complaint for a few days. He will certainly play if fit - he’s been a sensational signing.

Fantastic site! I like the humour and useful info by everyone on here. I have always had mid table results in previous years but with help from this site i am now pushing top 3!! cheers
Important question now-Will Tevez ever come good? i foolishly swapped Forsell out for him last week and the argie has done nothing yet! what happened to last seasons form! I am seriously considering getting forsell back in(i am running anelka and v.persie up front already).
More importantly, now that Yakubu is at everton, does that mean Downing will be pushed up even further as a makeshift striker? im asking because i was looking at getting in lampard or malbranque for either downing or malouda.
Thanks again guys and help is appreciated.

The best thing about Bentley’s goal was Gamst Pedersen cross. A flick-chip striaght to bentley for the half volley - excellent stuff.
I see that Southgate is still playing Tuncay on the wing or midfield, yet his best days at Fenerbahce were as a striker. he’s wasted on the wings.

It’ll be interesting to see Tevez play with Ronaldo when he comes back, guy’s quality so i am sure he’ll weigh in with goals/assists

I’d keep Tevez. They should score a few this weekend against Sunderland - he’s just getting used to the United style and needs a bit of match sharpness. He’ll start scoring soon.

Hey Mark. Lampard is now set to miss the weekend game, so you should update your XI and shortlists.
