New contract for Schmeichel as Isaksson looms

Kasper Schmeichel has been handed a new 3-year contract that trebles his earnings. The City keeper, who has conceded just 1 goal in 4 games thus far, was apparently one of the Premiership’s lowest earners on £1500 a week.

Fantasy Managers have been quick to jump on the City defensive bandwagon by snapping up the budget buy keeper. However, it’s worth considering that this new deal could well be a sweetner for the young Schmeichel, as City’s number one, Andreas Isaksson, could well return after the international break. It would make sense that Sven would seal the future of his new young keeper before relegating him to the bench. If Schmeichel concedes at Blackburn today we could see an awful lot of Fantasy Managers forced to shop for a keeper.

  1. I’m still top of my mini league in FPL game wiyh Gordon in goal. Even against the high scoring teams he picks up a lot of points for making saves, clean sheet or not.

Also, any news on Gary Neville’s return?
I am poised to sell Wes Brown but would prefer not to do it til after next lot of premiership matches.

  2. Sven has clearly stated that Kasper Schmeichal will retain Man City’s number 1 goalkeeping status ahead of Isaakson.

  4. Man City took another goal today, but apparently Schmeichel Jr. had a great game. Plus, he still only took two goals in five games. I can’t see him losing his place on the XI.

Something else worth noting is that Alex played today instead of Ben Haim, which may mean the latter is now Chelsea’s fourth chioce for center back.

  5. When Aresnal’s Eboue regains his fitness does anyone reckon he’ll be a first team regular? I’ve had him since the start of the season and he’s done very little. I’m tempted to draft in Cliche instead; does anyone think that’d be a good move?

Koumas has also been very poor and he’s going to get the chop too. Don’t know who I’m going to get instead of him. Sibierski is tempting but I’m wondering if he’ll remain a regular.

  6. Dysanovic,
I had Eboue at the start as he was down as a defender and I know Wenger had started playing him as a right sided attacker since Sagna had came in and made the right back spot his own.
However, I’m not too sure if this was just covering in Rosicky’s absence. Rosicky looks in good form at the moment, and then there’s also Walcott who could come in at right wing…

I think it’s best to get rid of Eboue, because, even when he was playing there, while he drives forward and is good for the team, he never really looks like scoring..

  7. I’m about to draft Ronaldo back in (for Nani), but I have to sacrifice Drogba to afford him.. I’m thinking Drog for Anelka. is there anyone else?

  8. @George: I think your probably right. Rosicky is playing well. Looks like I’m going to get Clichy instead. It looks like Clichy is going to be Wengers first choice and I reckon Arsenal will surprise a lot of people this year.

I too am going to bring Ronaldo back into my team for O. Martins (yes, I know I shouldve got Lampard instead!). Anelka is always going to play, but Torres is starting to look good though he is prone to player rotation. I’ve got Van Persie have you?

  9. Yep, Schmeichel continues to flourish but the threat of losing his place will hang over him and he’ll be under more pressure when Isaksson is fit. Buying him in now and spending the excess he saves you carries some risk - it may only take one slip. He remains a quality second string keeper in the FPL game though, especially with City’s run of games to come - 4 of the next 5 at home but Garrido and the gang seem less of a risk.

  10. Dysanovic,
I’m not sure what game you’re playing, but Koumas has been just fine for his price in yahoo. He’s one of those guys who produces points even if he doesn’t score and when he does score (which I’m sure will happen soon enough), he’s going to give you a points bonanza. Sibierski, on the other hand, screams fluke.
