Agger and Alonso blow for Rafa

Liverpool have been rocked by the news that both Daniel Agger and Xabi Alonso will be absence through injury for a significant period. Agger has been diagnosed with a broken metatarsal while Alonso has apparently suffered a similar setback. Depending on the rehabilitation period both players are said to be out for at least six weeks.

The absence of Agger is the more significant for Fantasy Managers. Hypia now seems certain to get a run of games in the side alongside Carragher and will now become a popular transfer target. Arbeloa is also an option for Rafa and Agger’s absence seems set to further secure his place in the starting lineup. Mascherano and Sissoko will fight it out for the midfield spot alongside Gerrard.

  2. Kiitos. Lapland and Lapin Kulta rocks btw

Do you think with these injuries that maybe Riise might get in the side now?

  3. Anyone else slowly but surely loosing patience with Andy Johnson!?

I know if I transfer him out he will go and score a couple straight away, but after 2 penalty misses last match I am getting extremely tempted….. Probably give him one more match!

Also any tips for a captain this week? My team is Almunia, Geremi, Arbeloa, Richards, Ronaldo,Fabregas, Jena, Smerin, Arteta, Van P and A.Johnson!
I have had the most rotten luck week in week out! Ronaldo-red card, van Persie-missed pen, Geremi-vs Derby no clean sheet or assist/goal! Shocking…. any tips? I was thinking Almunia as not convinced Fabregas will play long enough to really rack the points…

Great site by the way! Keep up the amazing work…

  4. Sorry typing too quickly….
I meant of course JENAS and SMERTIN in midfield

  5. @JK: I also have Johnson and I’m having similar thoughts. Tell you what. Why don’t you transfer him out? When he scores a hattrick I’ll send you a thank you card. ;-)

I had almost the same (rotten) captains as you. :-(

  6. Hmmm, captain….I think Fabregas, purely because you may as well pick the player most likely to score heavily, there’s little point having 2pts doubled! and looking at your team JK, Febregas is the best bet. If he is subbed after 65 minutes, having scored and assisted, with Arsenal 3-0 up, i don’t think you’ll be too down :)
I’ve got Gerrard, Van P and Adebayor but i’m still probably gonna go with Fabregas, it is Derby, afterall.

AJ probably should have gone from your team a couple of weeks ago, but now you face a dilema. Everton have a few tough-ish fixtures followed by some potentially good ones so, the choice is yours…..
personally i think he has to go now - he certainly won’t be taking pens from now on! There are better buys out there. Pick someone cheaper (Bellamy when fit, Adebayor, Utaka, Ashton…) who you think will rise in value over the next couple of months, or get a sure bet like Rooney (not many obvious ones at the moment though).

  8. oooo, can the set-piece takers be updated? - yakubu might well be taking Everton’s penalties! (or Arteta, who knows?).

    ..and new poll, please.

    Great site BTW!!

  9. ok, one question i’d like some opinion on.
Which ONE of these defenders would you leave out for this weekend????
    Baines, Ingimarsson, Garrido.

  10. will van persie be rested too? i may make hiim captain to try and gain on everyone who will surely put fabregas as captain

    [Reply]

  11. After Reading amazing start Ingirmarsson is my first candidate not to be benched but to be SOLD!

    [Reply]

  12. @steve: agree with Gobbi. Reading has lost it. They’re really in a bad spell now. Everton (baines) and Man. City (Garrido) are good defensifely, and even baines is potential for assist.

@JK: hehe i guess you are a big fan of AJ. I don’t have him and never thought to have him. I believe in Fantasy games you need consistency, and seeing his performance till today, he can hardly make a hattrick. But the question is who’s the one to replace him. I haven’t seen yet a potential striker which is a must buy. Maybe Anelka? According to the fixture, it’s much better to buy Arsenal or Liverpool players. But I can’t stand the rotation Rafa makes. And Wenger said his gonna make a small rotation this weekend. So I really have no idea..
About captaincy, Yes, I also had the exact same bad experience of captaincy as you had.
And what if Fabregas is benched, they still have Gilberto, Diaby, Flamini, Song, and Diarra for central midfielder. Tricky .. oh tricky ..
at least I’m pretty sure Ronaldo will start ;)

  13. On the subject of captaincy, I’m going for Stevie G against Brum on the basis that he’s less vulnerable to rotation having been out with his toe. Plus, now that Alonso’s crocked he may play close to 90 mins. Then again, what do I know, I chose Geremi over Fabregas last week.

  14. First post here after browsing the site for the past two weeks. Fulham supporter. Looking for some forward help in the 7-8 price range. Narrowed it down to: Santa Cruz, Mido, Yakubu, Kanu, Moore(AV).

I’m afraid to take Mido since Boro have brutal fixtures after this weekend, and I don’t like the fact the Santa Cruz and Yakubu are on Uefa cup teams. Anyone have thoughts on these 5?

  15. By the way - nice job on the site! Very useful info, especially the set piece section.

  16. @Stevo O-O:
Arteta will take penalties for Everton when he’s playing.

    [Reply]

  17. @Philip: yes .. Gerrard is an interesting idea.
But seeing how bad they played against Porto, I don’t know. But big teams usually bounce back very fast.

@Rambler: I kind of like Kanu. He doesn’t really score constantly, but when he performs he will make a double digit score. I have him in my bench :)

  18. Hey,

Just to say about Fabregas.. now I’ve learnt both Rosicky and Hleb are out vs Derby, I think this lessens the chance of Fab being rested.

    [Reply]

  19. wenger said he may play eduardo on the left to replace rosicky… which means adebayor and rvp should both be starting up front… i hope anyway

  20. What do you guys think..start with Richards or Geremi at the back?

    [Reply]

  21. @ John - I would go with Geremi. Newcastle are at home where they have not allowed a goal all season (2 league 1 cup), and Fulham have not been shutout by anyone this season. With Geremi taking all the set pieces I would say they are about the same chance to get an assist as well.

  22. @George: spot on! Fabregas is on fire!!

  23. Do you think Finnan will be a regular? He was only on for 3 mins today, which was disappointing!

Should I be looking at replacing him this week?

    [Reply]

  24. Ian, get rid of Finnan. Arbeloa is the cheaper and more versatile option. He has played every minute of every game this season, and even got an assist versus Derby.

In fact Reina, Carragher and Arbeloa look the only points of consistency in Rafa’s lineups this year.

    [Reply]

  25. Goddam it I am feed up with Johnson! :-(

And unfortunately I have to many injuries to transfer him out at the moment….

    [Reply]

  26. Tom I agree with you to a point on Rafa’s line up, but surely Arbeloa’s place is under threat from Riise and the fit again Aurelio?? This despite Arbeloa starting all the Reds Premiership games so far. Can’t see Arbeloa keeping Finnan out all the time like he did on Saturday against Birmingham.

Hyypia is a safe bet short-term with Agger’s injury and the lack of competition for centre half. I’d also add Gerrard to your list regarding consistency.

Up to 658 place overall in the Telegraph game…shame I did not bring in Adebayor, opting for Torres instead to replace the injured Drogba. Gutted.

  27. Great site guys :)

I am in a bit of a dilemma guys. Unbelievably i find myself top of the works league :)

I lost points on the weekend by bringing in Kirkland and Bramble thinking they have a better chance of a clean sheet than D.James at Blackburn !

    My current squad is :

    Kirkland , James

    A.Cole
    R.Ferdinand
    S.Finnan
    T.Bramble
    O.Mellberg

    C.Fabregas
    S.Gerrard
    A.Hleb
    G.Barry
    Smertin

    Adebayor
    Tevez
    Agbonlahor

I can transfer out T.Bramble and A.Hleb and bring in Hyypia and N’Zogbia for a cost of four points.

Will it be worth my while ?

    Thanks guys :)
