Torres a doubt for Merseyside clash

Fernando Torres is a major doubt for the weekend clash with Everton after suffering a torn a muscle in his thigh whilst away on International duty with Spain. The striker pulled up in training and the Spanish doctors have since confirmed that he is due to be out of action for up to 10 days. So, just when a game crops up that we’re 92% sure Rafa wouldn’t dare rest Torres for, the striker goes and rules himself out with an injury.

Without Torres, Rafa would have choose between Voronin and Crouch to partner Kuyt for the derby clash with Voronin perhaps the preferred option.

Elsewhere at Anfield, Fantasy Managers will be pleased to hear that Rafa’s rotation options are likely to be expanded by the return of Harry Kewell. He’s nearing a return to fitness and will return to full training this week after suffering a groin injury whilst on International duty in the Summer. Kewell’s return would give him Rafa all kinds of options on the left where he’d have Babel, Riise, Aurellio and perhaps even Benayoun to shuffle around, selection options that are likely to have a ripple effect throughout the entire lineup. Great news eh?

  1. Apart from Reina, Carragher and Gerrard, Liverpool are now a no go zone as far as I’m concerned

  2. Agger is also a safe bet when he returns from injury =]

  3. What’s the deal with Arbeloa, is he likely to keep his place or will Finnan get back in the team. Liverpool defenders (except Carragher & Agger)seem a no go this season

  4. On Arbeloa (A) ->

    Si - (K+6) x t(G) = r²/12.45 + (Vp-J) B + A

    Si = Ability to speak Spanish
    K = Kiss-and-tell expose in tabloids
    6 = Player over six feet in height
    Σ = Good engine
    t = Solid performance in training
    &radicG = Square root of goals scored in last game
    π = Carrying excess weight
    r = Unprovoked rant at Premier League officials
    12.45 = Saturday lunchtime kick-off
    Vp = Confluence of Venus and Pluto in Capricorn
    5I = Karaoke/Golf club incident
    B = Goatee beard
    A = Player is Alvaro Arbeloa

  6. Man, I really overestimated Liverpool this year. No, I don’t like them one bit, but I really thought that they were out for the league.

  7. Agree with Corey.

    Ross, I appreciate Arbeloa has started every game in the Premiership and is a bargain (well for a Liverpool defender anyway) £3.4 million in the Telegraph game, but I can see a fit again Aurellio and of course Finnan providing competition for his place in the coming weeks.

    I’ll probably jump on the Van Persie bandwagon now given Torres’ injury, given the Arsenal forward is one of the most popular players in the Telegraph game.

    Gobbi - brilliant!

  8. Yeah- I think Van Persie is a definite keeper. You can tell by the composure he’s shown in front of goal that he will be up there when the season ends..

    On the subject of karaoke and golf clubs… does anyone think Bellamy is a decent option for the next four/five games? I noticed that West Ham’s results were a lot better when he was playing earlier in the season and he came away with a decent points haul.

    I haven’t heard that Anelka is injured.. he’s the guy I’m trying to replace anyway.

    By the way, apologies if anyone has mentioned this already but Adebayor won’t be goign to the African Nations cup as Togo failed to beat Mali…

  9. im not sure if its worth trading out anelka as you only get 50% of the price rise in FPL. especially if you’re gonna be tempted to bring him back in during the season, you might not be able to afford him.

    as for bellamy, i reckon he might be a smokey. make or break kinda player for your team, it’ll separate you from the pack one way or another. i think ill be taking the risk and brining him in.

    damn togo, sif not qualify. with eduardo slowly settling into the premiership, there’ll be competition for the striking role in the future…

  10. what about risse in the up and coming weeks? i have him now in the espn league with only 16 transfers left for the entire season, I would hate to trade him if he does play, but can’t afford to keep him on the bench with his high price. what do you think…will he be playing?

  11. Bolton Worry Over Anelka Injury

    Bolton Wanderers are concerned about the extent of the injury that Nicolas Anelka suffered during France’s emphatic victory over the Faroe Islands at the weekend.

  12. My 3 strikers:-

    Anelka
    Torres
    Santa Cruz

    And in my game I have 4 transfers left for the whole season.

    Not my lucky week

  13. Forgot about agger. In the EPL he’s the same price as Carragher. Carragher will probly get more bonus points but Agger will score more and has a sweet left foot. Who should I go with?
    I’m probly gonna swap Ashton(injured just as he starts hitting form) for Bellamy.
