Ferguson looking to Shorey up his defence?

The January transfer window always brings a few interesting new possibilities for Fantasy Managers – a move for Nicky Shorey to United would certainly fit into that category.

An article in the Times today jumps to that conclusion following a remark from Ferguson that the left-back position could be a source of weakness in his squad following the departure of Heinze and injury to Silvestre. The article features a few quotes from the United boss, none of which confirm the interest in Shorey, and yet the report seems very definite in linking the Reading defender as a January target for United.

If it materialises, the transfer would be of interest for two reasons, depending on your appraisal of Shorey’s first team chances. Up against Evra, it would appear that the England man would struggle to get games. That could convince those who have the defender as a Reading player, to get rid. Then again, if by some chance he does get a dozen or so appearances under his belt, he could well be a decent player to have on your Fantasy bench given his attacking prowess and United’s clean sheet record thus far.

  1. anyone know any news on gary neville? i’m thinking of swapping rio for brown to provide a little extra cash to sign rooney. any thoughts?

  2. Is it only me that can’t access http://www.fantasyleague.com? I’ve been trying to check my points for the last day but the site seems dead.

I want to see where the points I’ve got from Ronaldo and Vidic have got me to ;)

  3. Evra came off at half time.
    Any news regarding his injury.
Do I buy Brown or Neville??? Help!!

Log on (and Ronaldo!) is working fine for me, Dysanovic

  4. According to MU official website, G Neville will be included in the squad when MU travel to play Roma in CL. Wes Brown had been brilliant so far this season. So from my point of view, G Neville will only be used as a sub for Brown during busy X’mas fixtures.

  5. Moz, Evra came off complaining off a stomach illness apparently. I would guess that it is something that will heal up by the weekend surely.

  6. @The Moz: Hmm, I still cant access http://www.fantasyleague.com

Perhaps its being blocked where Im at. However I couldn’t access it last night either.

Personally I’d go for Brown. As DaiHa says, he’s played very well so far this season, and I cant really see him getting back in. I wouldn’t get Neville until he’s got a run of at least 4 consecutive games.

  7. Will Bentley serve a 1-match ban this weekend? He did get his fifth yellow, right?

  8. Bentley is suspended for this weekend.

Brown over Neville, bearing in mind that Brown can also act as cover for Vidic or Ferdinand.

  9. Thanks guys! That is why I love this site so much.
Dead impressed by the stomach bug info My Time Is Now.
I’ll probably stick with Evra as I need to sort out my other defenders. Perhaps I’ll get in Brown as well, particularly as he is so versatile
Must be a problem your end, Dysanovic – hope you get it sorted.

  10. Message for Dysanovic.

Likewise I have been trying to access this website. Presume it is a technical fault that will be resolved shortly. Haven’t been able to access it all day which is frustrating.

  11. @Tom Mills: Glad to see that I’m not alone with this problem. They must have a serious problem at their end. Hope they haven’t lost our precious team data!

  12. Hi, any update on Fabregas, will he play against Newcastle?

  13. I think Neville will get the nod over Brown. Neville is the ’skipper’, and a long servant to Man U.

  14. For Farhan from Arsenal’s official website….

“Alex Hleb and Mathieu Flamini have been ruled out of the trip to Newcastle on Wednesday.

The Arsenal squad left for Tyneside on Tuesday without FOUR international midfielders. Cesc Fabregas and Abou Diaby missed the 2-1 win at Aston Villa on Saturday with hamstring and back injuries respectively. They will not be returning at St James’ Park.”

  15. Just found this on the end of the article…Looks like Fab will be out of the Boro game as well….

“Hleb and Fabregas are unlikely to be back for Arsenal’s return to the North-East on Sunday at Middlesbrough however there is more optimism over the chances of Flamini playing at the Riverside Stadium….”

  16. @Blah: I know G Neville is the skipper of Red Devils but he still need 1 or 2 weeks time to being fully fit to play full 90 min. Besides that, he is not performing well even in the last MU reserve match.

  17. For those that are struggling to access the fantasy football website – try searching through google and then click on the respective link. This may help.

  18. Martin, thanks for the advice but this is not helping. Website is down for a third day and I’ve heard nothing. Getting concerned now, anybody else know anything?

  19. fantasyleague’s isp crashed on monday – this will affect other games too – sky, mail, channel 4, aol, and some company sites. they say they are aware of all scores etc., can’t see how they can action any transfers though.

  20. Just thought I’d let everyone know that the fantasyleague site now appears to be back up and running.

I’ve just set-up my supersubs which will now mean I’ll get some points if Fab or Clichy play this eve!

  21. Hoping Eboue can finally convert his opportunites into points tonight. But looking forward to the weekend and looking for a replacement for Robbie Keane who is suspended till December 19th.

Anelka is looking a good short term option, as he always provides a goal threat and with his next three fixtures as follows Wigan (H), Man City (A), Birmingham (H). He looks like a feasible straight swap.

More of a risky options is Forsell, who looked very lively when he came on against Spurs and Birmingham look to have a pretty tasty run of fixtures during the next 6 gameweeks. It will be important however to hear the rumblings from Mcleish regarding his team selections before making any choices, as at the moment Jerome has appeared first choice.

    Any other thoughts?

  22. I need some help or ideas i’m starting to slip down the league recently and have decided to try and bring in Ronaldo – it will mean lossing 8 points and petrov but it will mean i’ll have 3 of the big 4 lamps, fab and ronaldo. is it worth it? MUTD have derby next but from what i understand rooney will be fit for that game…

  23. oh and i forgot to ask does anyone have a list of double game weeks??

  24. I need some help, I too have started to slip down in my league, was thinking of bringing in Gerrard and Hyypia, for Lampard and Kelly(BC)!
I already have Petrov, Bentley Ronaldo, Adebayor, Agbonlahor, Benjani. Lamps is not doing much, and Gerrard is cheaper, so the cash could be used to beef up defence?? Where would you spend the money? Distin? Tevez?

  25. Nick if you do that lampard will for sure score a brace on saturday

  26. Probably true, that has been my storey of the season so far! Nearly dropped Bentley after his double week score of 3, the boy only to scored two at the weekend!

  27. Nick

The big four midfielders are always worth having, but there’s not much to choose between them. So, ditching Lamps because he’s “not doing much” in favour of one of the other big 4 is not worth doing. I bought Gerrard weeks ago when he “wasn’t doing much” AND nobody else in my league had him. At the time he topped the “biggest disappointment” poll on this very site. The result is that I now top my league AND everyone else will no doubt transfer him in at a higher price (probably sacrificing Lamps/Fab to get the cash), having missed out on all his recent points.

  28. I’ve read on Goal.com that Drogba’s got a knee injury and may need an op. Any Chelski fans out there able to shed some more light on this as i need to transfer him out sharpish if its true.

  29. Anybody know much about the left back situation at Everton?
Baines doesn’t seem to be playing and is a cheap Everton defender at 4.5 – is this due to injury? dont see anything about this and he hasn’t made bench?
Valente is also cheap at 4.3 if Baines doesn’t reapear

  30. Help!
Thinking of changing Fabregas to Ronaldo, since Fab is not going to play this weekend, and MU is gonna play Derby at home.
Do you guys think this is a good transfer, losing the 0.4 from transfer-50%-value rules? Ronaldo might be rested for this “easy” game?

    cheers

  31. @Pete: Baines has been blighted with injury since the start of the season. He played for 90 mins in last nights Euro game so hopefully he’ll get a run of games in the premiership. If he’s fit he’ll get the nod over Valente as he’s good at set pieces. I’m going to hold on to him and keep my fingers crossed!

  32. who’s a good replacement for bentley from man utd.. im thinking nani or hargreaves..any news on either for this week??also is flamini out for this week??might need to make a move on him as well…

  33. Replacement for Bentley? Currently; Petrov, Cahill, Arteta, Etherington, S Davies, W-Phillips….

    Selections???
It appears that all you need to do to do resonably well in the premierleague game is pick the usual suspects – ronaldo, lampard, gerrard, fabregas, and as many bargains from the top 4 as you can get (adebayor, tevez, w brown) and a bunch of random also rans and then just sit back and hope you get lucky. The game has become quite dull and doesn’t involve enough skill. If 13 or 14 of your squad of 15 had to come from outside the top 4 clubs and midfielders weren’t always the top points scrorers then you’d see who really knows their football.

  34. ^^^ Someone’s not doing very well.

  35. Haha.

The skill this year seems to be picking the right captain every week.

  36. Who is the best captain for this week?
I’m going for gerrard, because I NEVER pick Man Utd players. I hate them.

  37. Im going for Ronaldo against Derby.

  38. I want to make Gerrard Captain however..

Liverpool have got a must win CL away game on Tuesday… then, Man Utd on Sunday.

My concern is Gerrard may be rested/benched for the Reading match to save from fatigue.

If Fab is fit i’ll pick him. If not Rooney.

  39. Fab is definately not fit and will not play at the weekend – that’s latest from Arsenal web site. Also out for the Middlesborough game is Hleb and Flamini and RVP still!
I, too feel Stevie G will be rested.

But what about Ronaldo? Would be a good choice for captain. Man U have already won their euro group so fergi ecan send out a 2nd team!
Or Captain Adebayor – he’s on form at the mo
Or Captain Cahill – he’s on fire!!

    Choices…Choices….

  40. They make or break you. Captaining the right man makes all the difference. A bad choice and I slip dwon my league; a good one and I go up. Last week Reina and Brown got me six points but everyone else on my team got two. Except Ronaldo(my captain). He got 30. A decent week in the end

  41. Is it worth the gamble of ditching Rosicky and Nelsen to get Lampard and a 3.7m defender (eg Varga, who I know will never play)? Would give me a strong XI but a weak squad and no cash to play with. The idea of having both Ron and Fatty is sorely tempting…

  42. which 2nd rate midfielders will play for man u? eg nani/hargreaves/carrick/anderson.. and who’d be the best bet?and with flamini out it will be the same situation with the arse..

  43. I’m thinking of changing Agbonlahor, Ireland and Reina for Adebayor, Cahill and Niemi. Is this a good idea or should I get any one else?

  44. So i guess for captain this week is for sure.. Ronaldo .. playing at home against Derby.

The question though.. will he be rested?

  45. I believe Gerrard will be rested as others have mentioned. Liverpool need a victory against Marseille or a draw and a Porto loss. I doubt Ronaldo will be rested because Man U have already won the group and Sir Alex propably remembers what happened the last time he rested Ronaldo (they lost to Boro).

There seems to be a lack of options for forward. Keane is banned, Drogba may be hurt, and Liverpool’s options are subject to rotation. Unfortunately I currently have Viduka who appears to be second choice to Smith.

  46. @Lincoln: I think it’s not really worthed to buy a second string of MU’s 2nd rate midfield, as they’re not that cheap and not producing that big of points. Better get Bentley or Cahill or cheap ones, e.g. Kapo, Larsson :D

@Pat: Nice view there. But I don’t think Benitez will rest Gerrard without having Xabi on the team. Who’ll be the playmaker? I believe Gerrard will play until Xabi goes back to the team. But of course you never know with Rafa.
And I hope you’re right with Ronaldo, coz it’s really sucks having your Captain benched :D
I think rather than buying an expensive Forward, I would rather buy one more of the top midfielders, like Gerrard or Ronaldo, at least for this time of being when they’re on fire ..

  47. With doubts about Stevie and Ron, the safe captain option this week has to be Lamps if you’ve got him.

For what it’s worth, I;m guessing that Gerrard and Ronaldo will both play, but maybe from the bench or substituted early.

  48. MAD – i gotta at least move bentley coz of suspension.. so i was thinking hargreaves for flamini.. cahills for the bent one.. just wanna get some thoughts..

  49. captain? Safest choice would be Lampard. Then you’ve got Tevez, Rooney, Ronaldo. Then Gerrard. Outside stabs; Torres, Adebayor, Cahill, Arteta.

BTW – Not having a bad season so far, just bored with the limited nature of the game….wow – i had a lucky week, darn it – i had an unlucky week, and repeat….
It’s just not challenging, i’m sorry to say.

  50. Oh, and Drogba too. All the big names then (shock).

  51. yep.. i’m leaning towards lampy then gerrard..

  52. Hey Fellas just wondering what you think of the player f’d ifiknow? Such a gun if you ask me

  53. he plays for villa…right??

  54. Torres or Ronaldo for this weekend’s armband? I just can’t decide who’s less likely to be rested. Shame I haven’t got Lamps.

  55. Out of those two, I’d go for Ron.

  56. i’ll go for ronaldo too

  57. why hasn’t the team news been updated? this is killing me!!

  58. Hopefully there will be an update some time today for this weekends fixtures

  59. Hi, guys will Evra play this weekend?… No team news Mark, anxiously waiting…….

  60. There’s a rumour circulating that Mark is to be rested from team news duties ahead of the following week’s fixtures, due to the importance of the big 4 playing each other. Glad I didn’t make him my captain this week.

  61. What’s the deal with Nani? I don’t see him plsted as injured.

Will he play v Derby? Does SAF REALLY prefer Anderson to Nani in the midfield?

At least in the Yahoo! Fantasy League, there is no comparison btw the two; Nani is far superior.

    Cheers,
    The Necromancer

  62. Where have the scout picks and weeekend scout notes been recently?

  63. Hey everyone, give the guy a break. He does this as a bit of fun and an unpaid favour – if he feels like having a week off it’s none of our business. There are plenty of other places to get info from a mere mouse click away, though admittedly without the attention to detail.
Good on yer, Mark and thanks for the site ;)

  64. Neville won’t play this weekend… he has received another set back
I have had Brown now for some time and he is my biggest bargain buy. Clean sheets galore!!
ps: This website is great but very slow to be updated!

  65. Who cares if this weekend’s scout notes are not updated – do some research and make some decisions on your own!

One that note – you guys need to tell me if I should bring in Kapo or McSheffrey from Birmingham!! :)

  66. Have just read this thread… sorry for complaint to editor, its just that I just discovered this site so was looking forward to updates!

Q: WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK ABOUT BUYING IRELAND FROM MAN CITY AS A CHEAP BUY?? HE APPEARS TO BE GOING WELL AND SVEN LOVES THE GUY… WHAT YOU ALL THINK??

  67. @ Rambler…
I have Kapo mate and he has done nothing for me!
I am contemplating bringing in Steven Ireland from Man City instead as he is only 5 million! My advice would be so steer clear of any Birmingham player!

  68. On the contrary, now looks a good time to buy Birmingham players. They have a good run of games up to Gameweek 20. Larsson is looking tempting after his great performance against Spurs.

  69. I’m lost without Mark’s scout picks. In my extreme confusion I’ve just played my wild card and transferred in the Derby forward line, the Sunderland midefield and the Boro defence with my wildcard….. Help!

  70. yes steve howard andy todd and steve bywater were very tempting..

  71. Does anyone know if Pamarot for Portsmouth will start ahead of Hreidarsson for the Villa match like last week? Will he get a full game?

  72. I think Old Gregg could be on to a winning strategy. I’m down with that.

  73. Another vote for Old Gregg. There’s words of wisdom in his post.

  74. O’nell and Agbonlahor have both won awards for manager & player of the month. Time to offload Villa players as a dip in form is sure to follow? Curse of the manager of the month.

  75. How about De Ridder as a budget midfielder from Birmingham? I’m also keeping a close eye on Pamarot; at 4.3 he’s by far the cheapest Pompey defender. But the question is: will he keep his place?

  76. Spot on Corey – i bought bargain basement De Ridder – as he’s an Dutch U21 international, he’ll get into the team evry week. But does McLeish fancy him?
Paramot – almost bought him but I’m not sure about long term and Pompey have 4 tricky games coming up..

And Old Gregg – Earnshaw’s your man!

  77. earnshaw should be starting.. bring back russell hoult for bywaters!!!

  78. Lads – what are your views on Stevie Ireland from Man City??? Worth a buy?? Will he continue holding down a place??

  79. I’ll buy Pamarot in a few weeks; after the hard games Pompey have some easy ones

  80. @Havers: Spot on man! Villa went down .. and Agbonlahor lost the form ..

  81. Silly talk lads!!!!! Agbonlahor WILL score again next week, wait and see!.. and Villa will win. O’Neill is the real deal and he will have them bouncing back big style. Sell you Villa players at your peril!

  82. Well, he didn’t score or assist but he played pretty well, hit the bar and pulled a great save out of James, so he’ll be keeping his place in my team.

And how Mendes got 3 bonus points and Muntari got none is totally beyond me.

  83. @Manc: hehe okay okay .. it’s already 2 games of 2 points. We’ll see next week against Sunderland if the curse is there :D

@puffinboy: yep, they really need to explain what’s the formula for the bonus points. I guess it’s based on Actim stats .. totally rubbish

  84. How did Bywater the Derby keeper get a bonus point when he conceded 4 goals and only made 4 saves??? And what does Yakubu have to do to score 3 bonus points??? He scores a hatrick in a 3-0 win and only gets 2 bonus points??? Yet Shevchenko scores a goal from his one input into the whole game and is missing the rest of the time and gets 3 bonus points???

  85. Indeed Terry, it’th a mythtery, as Toyah Wilcox sagely pointed out all those years ago.

  86. What is the story on this website???? It’s not being updated! It’s a terrific website but only when its maintained!

  87. Patience, young grasshopper, patience.

  88. Well I think that until Mark returns from being AWOL (no offence to Mark as he does a great job and whatever time he can spare here is appreciated), we should all try as best we can on this forum to keep each other up to date on as much team news as we all hear it.

  89. WTF!? Is it me or have the Barclays FPL failed to deduct points from Rio Ferdinand for Man UTD conceding a goal against Derby????

His points summary (the feature where you hover over a players points) reads:

    Minutes Played 90 – points 2
    Goals Conceded 0 – points 4

    ???

I don’t recall him assisting if thats what they really meant it for, and the max bonus point a player can get is 3 so it can’t be for that either.

I hope it’s rectified in tonights update.

  90. Barefoot -

Ferdinand came off as a substitute on 70 minutes – before Derby scored.

Players don’t get penalised for goals scored after they have been brought off the pitch. Ferdinand had played over 60 minutes and not conceded, so he keeps his clean sheet bonus – It’s correct.

  91. Yep I was ecstatic to see him get substituted after 60 minutes whilst still having a clean sheet. Even happier when I saw Derby score and all my colleagues in my league losing the clean sheet for Evra and Vidic.

  92. Wha-? Wow I never knew that. Thanks for clearing that up :)

That’s another thing for me to hope for in a game heh heh.

  93. Same-I didn’t know. It’s happened a few times this week I think. Woodgate came of after 70 mins and got a clean sheet bonus as Arsenal scored on 90

  94. whats wrong with this side??its havent been updated since 4 december!!!!!

  95. hehehe 94 comments on this thread ..
We really do need forum guys, so we can discuss specific things for each thread ..

  96. Agree with ‘Mad’ – a forum would be a great addition to this site so we can bounce ideas around!

Does anyone know when Fabregas is back?? I have him and am relunctant to sell but would consider it if he’s gonna be out for a few more weeks.

  97. A forum would be great. Phpbb forum script is free if siteowner does consider to do so.

  98. It doesnt look like Fabregas will be fit for Sunday, Van Persie could be back though.

It’s all uncertain whether Arsenal will have key midfield duo of Cesc Fabregas and Alex Hleb fit in time for Sunday’s Premiership showdown against Chelsea, but manager Arsene Wenger is optimistic that midfielder Mathieu Flamini, striker Robin van Persie and midfielder Abou Diaby may be involved.

Wenger said: “The one who has a realistic chance is Flamini. One who could be in the squad is Van Persie. Diaby could be in the squad as well. We don’t know about Cesc and Hleb.”

  99. It’s looking unlikely that Cesc will play against Chelsea but at least she should be back to destroy Spurs ;)

Captain for next week is a tough one, not alot of “obvious” choices, the likes of Everton and Blackburn playing away. Considering Agbhonalor (also playing away) or Benjani (Spurs defence is awful) but big name players often produce in the big games so might be worth sticking with Gerrard, especially if Liverpool get through in the Champions League and everyone is feeling on form and positive at Liverpool !

  100. The 100th post in this thread. Yessss, get in!!!!

  101. Go on the Dalmations

  102. “It’s looking unlikely that Cesc will play against Chelsea but at least SHE should be back to destroy Spurs ;) ” – Wow!! the standard of womens football must have improved since i last watched it

  103. Hey, leave Francesca alone! Her, Alexandra Hleb, Emanuelle Adebayor and Eboue, Justine Hoyte, Phillippa Senderos, Gayle Clichy, Manuela Almunia and Robyn van Persie are doing Arsenal Ladies FC proud.

Er, I think we need Mark to return, don’t we…

  104. Ive got both almunia and toure but as arsenal appear happy to conceed (knowing that theyre stong up front) i get few points- any ideas on replacements- im doin the daily mail version which doesnt give any bonuses or anything!

also, any thoughts on a cheap midfielder to bring in alongside gerrard, ronaldo and sean wright-philips? the longer he stays in the better as transfers are tight

  105. Carleton Cole will be suspended when W Ham host Everton this coming weekend, after picking up his fifth booking yesterday. I’m comsidering a straight swap for Ashton because he will now surely start having also scored yesterday. My only concern is lack of match fitness. Do we reckon his goal yesterday was a one off, or the start of a patch of form?

  106. @ Raz: How about Bentley for captain next week, fresh from his suspension? B’Burn are also away, but only up against Wigan. Remember he scored twice last time he played, and scooped all 3 bonus points. I’d rather have him as captain over Agbonlahor or Benjani because midfielders tend to score more points.

  107. Getting worried now. Mark, where are you – This site is too important!

  108. Hey Puffinboy! I bet u were waiting for the 99th comment!

  109. Yeah a good rule of thumb is to have your top midfielder as captain. I am opting for Lampard this weekend as captain. I have Benjani too which is tempting but Lamps it is.

ps: Mark are you still alive dude????!

pps: Who do you all reckon should be captain this wekeend given that the big 4 are playing each other!

  110. who all bought Ireland?
I did, put him out now for Johnson

  111. Yeah I bought Ireland last week!! Solf him today for Larsson from Birmingham. As was pointed out about – Birmingham have a nice string of fixtures coming up against “weaker” teams.

As for Captain for this weekend? Ronaldo or Benjani for me. A Man City defender is also an option

  112. I brought Ireland in just this week too!! Sellin him for Pienaar or Muntari? Also what forward shall i bring in Yakubu or Jerome?

  113. n.b. Muntari is just 1 yellow away from another suspension + they have some tricky fixtures on the way

  114. awful few weeks injuries all over the place.elano fab bentley now suspended (had kept gary neville). decided to use 8 points to get ronaldo.dumped elano and petrov.Figure man city difficult run after bolton.so have ronaldo. after scaling heights I have fallen like a stone.

  115. @Ollie

I think Pienaar is going to the Africans cup, so only a shortterm buy, but a good one, I’d say – great value!
I think you need one Everton player – They will score more goals – Yakubu, Cahill or Arteta
I just bought in Jerome with Birmingham having 3 out of next 4 games at home – law of averages and all that!

  116. Sunday’s two big games make me nervous. Though I usually like to use my free transfer I might stick with my current XI for once: James, Eboue, Evra, Bouma, Lamps, Ronaldo, Cahill, Bentley, Agbon, Cruz and Benjani.

I can’t see Arsenal failing to score in 2 straight games, so Cashley will be benched. Mind you, I’m sure Eboue won’t be keeping a clean either.

Captain – either Bentley or Agbonlahor.

  117. Please let me know which keeper has easy run of games to come, I have to offload Almunia.

  118. Someone send out the search party for Mark !

  119. I wonder if Shorey actually WILL have signed for Utd by the time Mark returns… :)

  120. I heard a rumour that the aliens have abducted Mark because they were needing some advice on who to play in the clash between Moonchester United versus Martian City in the Outer Space Fantasy Premier League feetball. The striker from Moonchester United is a huge threat in the box (it helps that he has 2 heads and 4 legs) and the alien players need to know if it worth making him captain this week.

Sorry its been a slow week.

    The truth is out there!

Come back to us Mark all is forgiven.

  121. Who thinks Shevchenko might be worth a gamble, we all know what he is capable of, also what is the RVP situation?

  122. However Terry, Martian City’s keeper is actually a Romulan force field and has yet to concede this season (40,000 games, 4,000 years). The downside is that he costs 350m T’chak and you only get a budget of 349m.

  123. Ronaldo or Lamps as Captian this weekend????? DISCUSS…..

  124. Ashton

    Agbonlahor

    Yakubu

Which one do you all reckon long-term???

  125. has this site shut down i havent heard any news on anything.?????

  126. Result, Elano is almost certainly fit for the w/e according to Sven.. This will surely cheer up those of us yet to sell him, including me..

P.S. Mark is locked in my basement!

  127. Anyone know who’s going to be Earth’s captain for the Galatic games?

Only I’m thinking of putting him in my team as his value is sure to go up.

  128. Ronaldo or Lamps as Captian this weekend????? DISCUSS…..

  129. come on. I’ve given you long enough to think about it. Ronaldo or Lamps.

  130. and you best answer quickly if you know what’s good for you.

  131. Chris why don’t you make that decision for yourself stop relying on others to make your choices. Next you’ll be asking us to wipe your bum

  132. Be a man and make your own decision, Chris.

  133. How about neither of them?

  134. Lads – I asked the original question then some prat added questions under same name as me. Sooooo I only posted one question… and lads I am only looking for your opinion! Is that not what this site is all about??

  135. @Chris

I wouldn’t go for neither. Seriously are they the only two options you’ve got? They’re both really tough games.

But between the two of them i think Ronaldo has more of a winning mentality and sheer determination to always try and get on the score sheet.

So I’d go for Ronaldo :)

Although personally I have Ronaldo and Gerrard, but I’m making Santa Cruz (c)

  136. I would make Lamps captain due to weakened Arsenal midfield. Although I agree with Barefoot, make neither captain. Alot of weaker team strikers likely to score this weekend. Benjani is a strong bet for me

  137. can someone wipe my bum?

  138. Go clean it yirself u muppet / imposter! lol

I have Mark here as my personal arse cleaner, if you are all very good then I’ll let him back on the internet!

  139. Ronaldo as captain every time. He gets involved and if there are goals then he will be involved

  140. can someone select my entire team for me?

    thnxs

  141. Click my name to see my team

Which players are going to get the highest scores?

  142. Lampard or Ronaldo?
    ——————–

In my opinion, I will go for Lampard. Man Utd and Chelsea both will be facing Liverpool and Arsenal and these games are away games.
Why Lampard not Ronaldo. I just watched the match between Liverpool and Marseille. Liverpool seems to be unstoppable although they had lost to Reading in the last fixture. Torres, Gerrard, Kuyt, all theses big names were on the score sheet. Personally, Liverpool didn’t suck at all during the game between Reading. 2 times hitting the crossbar and at least 2 penalties denied by the referee. So, MU will have tough tough game at Anfield. Go for Gerrard as captain if you have got him in your squad rather then Lamp or Ron.
On the other hand, Arsenal is facing some serious injury nightmares. In their last game, the Gunners was totally dominated by Boro. All those killing one touch passes were not working with the absense of Fabregas, Hleb and Flamini. Chelsea. The Blues are on form as they had won 7 and drawn 2 in the last 9 premiership games.
Therefore, go for –> Gerrard, then –> Lampard and last –> Ronaldo.

  143. Yup, I’ve captained Gerrard this week. Was gonna go for Fabregas if he was certain to be back, but it’s not worth the risk. Adebayor could be a big shout this week though, as he really steps up his game in big matches

    My line-up this weekend:
    GK: James
    DF: Sagna, R.Ferdinand, Laursen, McCartney
    MF: Ronaldo, Gerrard(c), Fabregas, Cahill
    ST: Kitson, Adebayor
    subs: Forsell, Leadbitter, Belletti, Kirkland

  144. Elano – best choice for captain this week. Fit and hungry, facing Bolton’s defence… i’ll take the risk

  145. Yeah spot on lads. Man U V Liverpool will be interesting!
Despite all of the above I have opted for Banjani as capt. Could be wrong but I reckon he will screw the dodgy spurs defence as the big 4 cancel each other out!

  146. Does anyone who uses this site actually know Mark, or has anyone tried to contact him? He usually mentions beforehand if he’s going to be away for a while but nothing this time.

  147. @Sam .. a very nice team you got there, Sam. Man .. where did u get the money from :P

I agree Gerrard is really in the form of captaincy, even in the Champions League. He’s really on fire.
Though, I prefer Ronaldo to Lampard. Chelsea is having a problem offensively without Drogba, as Arsenal did without some injured players. But Ronaldo will try to score even by himself..

Having said all that, the Liverpool vs MU game might be a boring game where both teams try to play safe, not like Arsenal vs MU game.
    Gamble .. gamble .. gamble ..

  148. I’m not taking a risk on a captain from any of the “Big Four” teams myself. Decided to opt for Bentley at Wigan, they badly missed him in the West Ham game. I considered Elano but Bolton seem to be playing well again, should be a tight game.

  149. Ronaldo, Gerrard, Lampard – all pretty equal chance of picking up points this week, me thinks. Outside bets to do well; Benjani, Petrov, Elano, Jerome, Bentley, Agbonlahor/Young/Carew, Martins.

Perhaps Mark has had more pressing matters than Fantasy Football?

  150. Defensively it’ll be pot-luck this week with so many intriging fixtures (only 3 defenders again this week). May be a week for having as many players playing at home as possible….

  151. Current squad is:

    Almunia
    Clichy Dunne Ferdinand Evra Belletti
    Lampard Ronaldo Fabregras
    Agbonlahor Benjani

    Green
    Wallace
    Teale
    Cole

Where do you see my weaknesses?

Is it a risk having 2 arsenal defenders? Are my strikers that good?

I only have 0.3 million in the bank, although I could sell a goalkeeper to raise some money…

    …thoughts???

  152. I think you should sit down and pour yourself a nice glass of Baileys.

Then I’d seriously consider whther it’s better to have the three midefield heavyweights in there, as you do, or pehaps better to spend a bit more money on your attack and other midfielders, sir.

  153. Thankyou sir,

I don’t know though, I think it’s really important to keep them 3.

I feel strikers this season are too inconsistent which is why I opt to play with 5 defenders.

I think I will sell green (buy a 3.9er), leaving me with 1.2 million. Swap clichy for a.cole.

When g.neville is back, swap him for evra, and use the extra money to upgrade dunne to Agger.

    Thus:

    Almunia
    Belletti A.Cole Neville Ferdinand Agger
    Ron Fab Lamp
    Agbon Benjani

Maybe swap agbon for someone like ashton???

  154. Cheers Mad. Because of the budget Forsell my team isn’t that expensive (now valued at 105mil i think). Petrov was the man to make way for Ronaldo. I was looking at his point history and noticed that although he gets the occasional assist/goal, the only reason he’s really in the top point scorers is because of gameweeks 7 and 8 where he scored a total of 28 points. With Man City’s oncoming run of quite tricky games I thought it was about time to sell up and run with the money while he’s still worth quite a lot.

As for you Mark, I really like the look of your team, but if you’re going to get rid of a goalkeeper, you should probably ditch Almunia. Being an Arsenal fan I really like the guy, but Arsenal’s defence has been dodgy this year, and Green is certain to be West Ham’s number 1 all season, while Almunia may not be assured of his place (especially with Jens getting a run-out tonight). I’d say keep Green, then on the eve of gameweek 20 (when West Ham host Man U, before travelling to Arsenal), swap him for David James (for his games of Boro, Reading, Sunderland, Derby). Also, don’t go for a 3.9 goalkeeper that’s not gonna play, just spend the extra 0.1 to bring in either Kirkland or Birmingham’s Taylor.

P.S. I think it’s about time you got rid of Teale!

  155. Dude-you said it was risky having two Arsenal defenders but the same can be said with Chelsea and United. Having Belletti and Cole could be bad cos if Chelski slip up that’s two wasted defenders(the same with Man U).
My method is to try and have one defender from Man U, Chelsea and Liverpool cos they’re the best defensively.
So take off a Man U and a Liverpool defender from the list above, and replace with defenders from second tier teams(Villa, Blackburn, Everton, Portsmouth, Man City-you could keep Dunne). That should free up some cash to spend on a striker like Tevez, Adebayor, RVP,etc

  156. Thanks Sam,

    That’s some good advice!!

The reason Teale is in the squad is for the plain fact that he is the cheapest midfielder.

I don’t see the neeed for subs who are good. Surely the money is better spent on players who do play??

Of my current subs, wallace and carlton cole play. Teale is to free up some money.

What do you think I should do with the 1.3 million then?

    Upgrade Clichy and Dunne??
    Upgrade Agbonlahor??

    Cheers again.

  157. @ Havers (comment 105) : I thought Carlton Cole’s suspension was against Boro on the 22nd?

  158. Anyone seen Bolton’s upcoming fixture list? Could be some points in the making….

    Man. City (A), Birmingham (H), Everton (A), Sunderland (A), Derby (H), Blackburn (H), Newcastle (A), Fulham (H), Reading (A), Portsmouth (H),
    Blackburn (A).

    Anelka, Davies or Nolan perhaps?

  159. What do you think is better?

    Green and Anelka

    James and Agbonlahor

James and Anelka both have comfortable runs soon!!

  160. i agree with corey. Bargain strikers from big teams are more of a ‘must have’ than an expensive defender from those teams. A look at the end of season totals will tell you this. OK, usually one, maybe two defenders from the big boys will be at the very top but the rest are made up from the 2nd tier, Lescott (bit pricey now though), Dunne, Distin, Mellberg, etc. As i’ve said before, the bedrock of your team should be the fab 4 in midfield, Tevez, Adebayor/RVP, W Brown, and whatever you fancy taking a punt on from the remaining money (it would help to have made at least £4m from transfers, of course). Follow that basis and you can’t go wrong.

  161. As far as subs go, i’d say pick those that are not rock bottom prices because they won’t play or if they do they will do nothing. Spend that little bit more and get someone who at least has the potential to come in and have a good week. Examples; A O’Brien, Ridgewell, Larsson, Jerome, Leadbitter, K Jones, Dempsey, etc.

  162. @ Tony – Maybe I’m mistaken about Cole, but he definately picked up his 5th booking. Why wouldn’t he be suspended for the following game? Bentley served his suspension for his 5th booking immediately. Anyone else know the answer? I’ve already made the transfer to bring Ashton in Cole’s place anyway. Ashton will surely get his starting place back having scored from the bench last time out, regardless of Cole’s availability.

  163. My team

    MY TEAM;

    Van der Saar

    Richards, Laursen, Toure, Brown
    Ronaldo, Lampard, Fabregas, Kapo

    Abgonlahor, Benjani

    Subs: Gordon, Larsson, Chopra, Baird

I currently have 768 points and sitting 7th in my league (Good money for winner!!) I have .8 in bank.

Where do you all see my weaknesses… would welcome your views!

  164. Looks like a decent team Anthony. Obviously the subs bench could be stronger but I guess that’s difficult with the expensive midfielders.

Kapo seems to have been benched, but Birmingham have good games, so he’s worth keeping an eye on.

I would consider replacing Toure perhaps, as Arsenal have a run of fairly tough games coming up now, then he is off to the African Nations. Perhaps opt for a Liverpool defender? After the Man Utd game they have a good run of games up to Gameweek 25 and don’t look like conceding many.

  165. yeah, only three defenders this week. I can’t see many clean sheets

  166. @ Havers – I *think* its because they need 7 days notice for suspension. Bentley was booked 8 days before his next game, Cole only booked 6 days before his next. Like you said, it doesn’t matter now! Good luck fella.

  167. Tony is correct, the ban takes place after 7 days

  168. Hi Guys

    My FPL Team:

    James

    Hyypia, Ferdinand, Laursen

    Petrov, Lampard, Bentley, Ronaldo

    Adebayor, Agbonlahor, Benjani

    Subs: Alumnia, Dempsey, Kelly, Bramble

How do you guys think that looks? I only have 0.1 in the bank maybe loose Alumnia, and spend it on Tevez/Anelka? Also I think Bentley is in for a shout as captain, what do you think??

  169. Wow .. so many comments .. so many topics .. don’t know how to comment

@Havers – Yes, by the rules, the suspension is active 7 days after the 5th yellow card is given. Since Cole played last Sunday, and next Gameweek is Saturday, so the he’s still not suspended yet. He also played tonite against Everton in a Carling cup QF match.

    @Someone – about Anelka.
I always believe that Anelka can score anytime. You don’t really need to have a good run of fixture to buy him. The thing is even though he is quite consistent, he’s not really a point getter, not so often more than 1 goal in a game (as far as i remember :P ) which is not a good captain candidate.
And for me, I don’t spend 9 mil or more for a non-captain candidate.
Gerrard, Lampard, Ronaldo, Fabregas worth their value because you can easily choose them as a captain.

@Sam – Good view on Petrov. Sooner or later i will get rid of him for another 1 of the big 4 of midfield.

@Mark – Agree with the opionion of getting rid one of Arsenal’s and MU’s back line. I think Arsenal and MU are beautiful-open-playing teams. So you will often see the 4-1, 5-1, 3-1 wins which cost the defenders points. I even start to think of getting rid of Vidic.
While Liverpool and Chelsea are more cautious and stable defensively. I would rather having their defenders, especially the likes of Alex and Beletti that can also score goals.
And yeah, don’t forget Laursen. He’s good going forward. Last game he had two header chances that should have been converted into goals. And he was cheap :D

  170. @ Nick – agree with losing Almunia. With Lehman playing tonight, who’s to know what will transpire over the coming weeks. Howard is cheaper than Alumunia so that could be a good shout.

I seem to remember that Mark (MIA/AWOL!) mentioned that as soon as Agger was fit he would replace Hyypia, so watch out for that one.

Also, Robin Van Persie was back in action tonight and is currently 0.3 cheaper than Adeybayor. As for Anelka, like I said in a previous post, Bolton have a good run of 10 games coming up, so he’s definitely worth a shout.

Laursen could be a good shout for Captain (away to Sunderland). Clean sheet would get you 12pts plus he might even throw in a goal for you! (although he did miss a couple of sitters at the weekend)

    Food for thought?!

PS – I’m with the others here on getting a (phpbb) forum here. Would make a worthy addition to an already excellent site.

PPS – I hope none of my league competitors are reading this – I’m giving away my secrets!

  171. Lets have a vote on who should be elected forum moderators!

I’ll plump for Mad and Stevo 0-0

  172. @Mad

why would anyone take out a Man Utd defender?!? Rio has kept 10 clean sheets this season which is already an easy 60 points plus he chips in with a goal or two every now and then.

but yes Arsenal always concede so thats why I never bother having any of their defenders (Gallas sometimes makes up for it with his little goals every now and then)

I was gonna get James to replace Cudicini but with Portsmouth losing to many players in January (not many defenders though) I still see them conceding a bit more then they do now so think I’m gonna go with Green – seems to get bonus points as well!

  173. @ Tony. No one likes an arse licker…also neither mad or Stevo 0-0 have a clue.

  174. Guys I must say I’ve never read better thoughts/opinions/suggestions on fantasy football than this one. well done, especially to Steve o-o, Mad and Tony

  175. You guys are right about the suspension starting 7 days after the fifth yellow card, but just so you know the suspension after a red card starts immediately with a 1 match ban for a yellow then red dismissal and a 3 match ban for a straight red!

It worked out well for me, I needed to put Cole upfront this week so the fact West Ham played on the Sunday was a result; his ban ties in well as I have plenty of options in week 18.

    Up the Gunners!

  176. I reckon Mark is sorting out some form of sponsorship deal or selling this site. I reckon within two weeks there will be a notice informing everyone to redirect to another site. He has been away too long and I’m sure it’s for a reason (alternatively a subscription will need to be paid to this site).

The dollars are heading the way of a worthy recipient! Fair play to you Mark.

  177. Guys, that moron idiot who keeps using my name above and even used “Chris (the real one)” in his latest post has gotta be the only tosser on here. I’d say he is about 16 (mental age 11) with greasy spotty face thinking he is hilarious. Tosser!

The comments and advice on this forum is great bar this idiot!

    Just my two-pence worth…
I agree on the Arsenal/MU defenders thing. I Started with 2 MU and 2 Arsenal defenders and got shit points. Moved for Laursen and Richards and things improved. Brown has been a bargain buy for me and I think by end of Dec it will be time to get rid of Toure.

  178. @Chris: In order to get rid from this username trouble, I think there should be a new rule on this website that only registered username to be able to give comment.

  179. Which of A Cole and Eboue should I bench this weekend? I’d like to do both as I’m sure both teams will score but the spoilsport FPL won’t let me only have 2 defenders.

I guess Eboue’s at home and is playing midfield, so he seems the slighter safer option. I can see Chelski sneaking a win, mind.

  180. well i read this forum so my thoughts…..

1.The guy who posted that Bolton have favourable fixtures hits the nail right on the head!!! I have already transferred A O’Brien in ( averaging 2.7 points per game, Clichy averages 3.1 per game yet £2 million price diff?!? ) and after the Man City game Mr Nolan may well come in too, as he is playing in a more advanced attacking role

    2. Not a knee jerk reaction after Boro’s win last week but Julian Arca will be coming in to my team next week. Boro have also favourable fixtures and if you care to look at his points tallies before his injury he was averaging at 4 a game. One or two injuries are freeing up there at the Boro and I can see coming some what clear of the relegation zone.

    3. For all of you out there hanging onto Cesc Fabregas by very careful. It almost appears certain that he MAY come back for the Spurs game on the 22/12 but if he does will he play 90 mins? The Arsenal then have 3 further games in 10 days, assuming he is “INJURY FREE” for the spurs game, will he be match fit and more importantly up to 4 gruelling games in 11 days.

  181. good point about Fabregas Dave, still wary of puttin him back into my team next week

we should start a forum if Mark doesn’t get back by the weekend?

  182. Yes good point on Fabregas!! I have held onto him and kinda regret it now, have already had him on bench for 2 weeks and I agree, he is unlikely to figure much with such a demanding fixture list coming up. Hamstrings are notoriously slow at healing and can pull again!!
My dilema now is that he was 10.5 value, now he is 10. If I sell I loose .5 but he could regain it if I hang on.

FABREGAS TO SELL, THAT IS THE QUESTION!!…

ps: Yes a forum on here would be great lads!

  183. my line up -

    Green
    Laursen, Vidic, Distin
    Cahill, Kranjcar, Lampard, Gerrard
    Benjani, Tevez, Santa Cruz

    Subs – Schwarzer,Dempsey,Ingimarsson,Scharner..

I was thinking of dumping santa cruz but with wigan coming up and a loose defence i’ll keep him.. was going to bring bentley back in but don’t wanna dump cahill.. any other changes you guys think? I’ve been going pretty well lately so i’m not asking for desperate help lol just want to get your thoughts!

  184. Fabregas is a bit a problemo. I’d say get rid if the rest of your squad is looking week for the next couple of weeks, otherwise hold on. Obviously if you sold him last week or the week before then you’ve done well. I wouldn’t upset the structure of your squad (and give away transfer points) just because he’s out.
Assuming you have Gerrard already (and have Ronaldo & Lampard) then it’s just a case of picking the next best thing…
…Bentley, Petrov, Elano, Cahill, Arteta…or gamble on a low to mid price one and hope you get really lucky (any attacking minded midfielders playing against Derby or Sunderland are worth a look). I’d say get Fabregas back in once he’s proved his fitness by having no reaction to his first one or 2 games back. If he does get rested for a game here and there (unlikely though), then you should be looking to your subs to do a job for you.

I hope Mark is ok (and i don’t mean financially).

  185. Alright all, just wondering if i could pick your brains.

    Have currently got:

James, Hart (yeah i know he’s not playing will get rid soon)
    Taylor, Mellberg, O’Brien, Upson, Laursen
    Cahil, Ronaldo, Lampard, Gerrard, Fabregas
    Cole, Santa Cruz, Agbonlahor

Now if i take an 8 point hit i can bring in RVP, who is rediculously under priced at the mo, does meen selling mellberg and laursen for pamarot and valente.

but as baines is out for the forseeable future valante is a bargain, especially given evertons form and the same goes for pamarot. though admittedly neither defence has any obvious clean sheets coming until for a while.

so what do you reckon? worth the gamble? RVP will be a point machine if he stays fit.

  186. Not unless RVP is a cert to pplay.. decent midfield you have there!!

  187. @Lincoln.

I’d say beef up your midfield a little bit. How you do that is your choice. Either ditch Vidic for Wes Brown or lose Santa Cruz, or trim your keepers(?) Kranjcar and Cahill will do well in spells but not long term (the remainder of the season). Of the 2, Cahill will score more, i think, but doesn’t do much else. As you say, you’ve been doing well so any changes you make don’t really need to be sweeping. Personally i think Santa Cruz is not value for money. Blackburn look a poor side at the mo, and if anyone is going to do anything for them it’ll be Bentley.
I can’t see Wigan getting whipped at home this weekend – i reckon it’ll be pretty dull.

  188. @Goat,

again, Santa Cruz for the chop, Blackburn don’t score enough. Money permitting i’d ditch Laursen for a cheapo; Paramot (or Gabbidon maybe-bit risky after last night), and get in RVP if you’re feeling confident he’ll start. Maybe you should hold off making the changes for a week or two, or make 1 change at a time to avoid points deductions???

  189. yeah i was thinking santa cruz was a little overpriced.. maybe agbonlahor against a dodgy sunderland defence? or tuncay?? young has good form for villa..

  190. if santa cruz scores against wigan.. AHHH!!!

  191. lol I have Santa Cruz!

    *cheers for him*

  192. Santa Cruz may well get on the score sheet this week but i think he falls into neither category of player that is needed. He’s not a player who’s going to get you 8,9,10+ points very often and he is isn’t a bargain either, i.e, one who’ll pick up points regularly.

  193. Help!!!

I’ve been in this thread so long that I’m stuck!!

  194. If we can keep talking for a bit longer then we’ll reach the 200th post. Surely that’ll be a milestone

  195. @goat,

Valente, won’t be playing. Jaglielka comes in at right back and the remaining back three all shift one across to the left.

  196. Hello?

  197. Oi Oi!

  198. Yo yo yo…

  199. Greetings kind sir..

  200. 200th post! Do I get a prize?

Ha-ha! Old Gregg cheated! Nothing gets past the Muntz.

  201. Nope, sorry, the prize went to the crushingly handsome originator of the 100th post.

  202. thanks God Marks is back, hopefully i will be the last one on this thread :D

  203. Not on your nelly sunshine….

I’d like someone to give me some advice on my FPL team- I’m trying to go for the fattest team possible…

    So far I have:

    Robinson
    Alex (Ch)
    Yakubu
    Tevez
    Lampard (obviously)
    Huddlestone

  204. Viduka, of course. He ate most of, if not all, the pies.

  205. Rooney.

Come on chaps, the Shorey thread must not be allowed to wither on the vine!

  206. Ah, what a great thread this was, when Mark went MIA and the world tilted on its axis. Happy days…

  207. I remember this one. Ev1 went crazy because they couldn’t decide who to make captain and who to transfer because our leader was not around. Also,if I remember correctly mr puffinboy, did you get 100th thread, what a result. Great times. Oh no, my sirloin steak is burning

  208. The lunatics took over the asylum. I guess nothing much has changed.

Mark, a forum would be so good, as idiots like myself, yerdad and Old Gregg can be locked away in the safe room while the ‘proper’ people can get their info well away from all this tomfoolery… ;)

  209. Or we could try and get this thread up to 300 and then and only then could they be crowned 300th thread champion. obviously this would not be as prestigious as the 100th thread championship but it will be very close. rules will be have to drawn up as I might be tempted to stay up all night.

  210. How do yo get those smiley faces in your text??

  211. 89 to go

  212. You see rules are needed. Without rules this could ascend into total chaos. Ha, ha orville and keith harris have just come on sky one, who needs football when this is on tv, i think I will switch over to sky sports, I can’t, you can, I can’t.

Not much recent action in this once-legendary thread. I guess Fergie wasn’t really interested in Shorey; he knew he could rely on Wes ‘I am a alien’ Brown after all.

  213. Mark: Any news on this Shorey guy? Its been nearly 3 months now.I have been waiting to buy him and stuck in this thread waiting for an update. I think I will get Terry instead as the transfer window has gone now. What do you think????

I wouldn’t get Shorey in this week, Dad. With Reading away to some furious Gooners it’s not looking rosy. Unless he signs for Utd before then.

Why, that just makes no sense at all. Shorey has gotten me a solid 1 point the past two gameweeks and I’m looking to extend that run. So to imply that bringing him in is a mistake is just downright silly.

  214. I think the time has come to get this chap Shorey. Anyone else think he could shorey up their defence?

I’ve a feeling you’re just determined to keep my terrible pun alive. I was proud of that one, once.

  215. I will buy him one day but not until this post has 300 threads and I am shore he can shorey up my defence

  216. Don’t leave Shorey on the shelf. Lets discuss this for a while.

I don’t think I’ll get Shorey in for the last 2 games.

  217. Same here, I won’t get him in for last 2 games.

This is my last chance to Shorey up your defence and try and win the most comments in the season 07/08.

  218. Ok then

  219. Yes, got my picture in all the recent comments section.

Remember me, yer dad? I promised to paint yer fence for a fiver.

  220. This is my very first comment, so forgive me for rambling here, but I’ve been following this awesome site for the full 38 weeks. I’ve wanted to join the commentary for a while, since there have been so many great topics discussed here, so I want to keep Shorey going now. This is my 2nd year in the FPL, I’ve won my mini-league both years….without Mark’s help last year, and with his brilliant assistance this year. Not to be arrogant, but I probably will never lose my league now that I have the backing of all you fine people (TheNecromancer, Yer Dad, Mr. Puffin & his reluctant/eager fiancé Alex, Leighton the Gambler, the list goes on and on.)

I’ve resisted posting thus far because I have been way too deep into this Fantasy Football thing. Being from East Coast USA though, it is unfortunately considered unnatural to be loving soccer this much (they use that foolish word around here). I don’t care, I love it. I’ll be watching Sunday Night Football at home (the NFL), but I’ll find myself switching the channel to watch the weekly EPL Review Show, and my wife will say, “What are you doing? Why don’t you just move to London already!” You folks grow up surrounded by football, yet in this country you have to pay extra to get special cable or internet channels to view it.

Much like TheNecromancer who roams the other coast of America, I anxiously await the release of the Scout Picks every Friday. I purposely wait to see them until nighttime though, as I like to let the comments build up for a while. Unlike TheNec, who sips coffee whilst reading it, I crack a beer when the Fam are all sleeping and I enjoy reading and chillin’ with the report for a bit before I make the Mark-assisted move(s) that enable me to throttle my competitors. It is the highlight of my week, and I’m sure that none of us are ashamed to admit that!

Above all, thank you Mark for such an amazing site. I may not be posting often but I’ll certainly be supporting you in the future.

    Sincerely,
The Mighty One (cousin of The Special One, Apprentice of TheNecromancer)

Nice one The Mighty One for a keeping the Shorey post alive and giving us Limeys a insight into “Yanks & soccer”. Don’t move to to London though as the big teams are up North. Man Utd, Rochdale A.F.C and the Bricklayers Arms.

    Reluctant/eager…
Well, I’ve been called many things, but not that particular combination. Mind you, the reluctance only comes from his continuous insistence on board games at the wedding. Oh, and being married to a limey of course.

Don’t move to London because of this:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxJKvYBNgo8

Just be a good lad and support Hull City like my stepdad.

Alex, That video was cool…made me chuckle.

Yer Dad, I would move to London because that is where all the action is, but I did not mention in my original note that I actually do like Man-U (didn’t want to lose fans right away, and I like them because I liked Eric Cantona, so please try not to hate).

Earlier this season I saw postings saying that Ronaldo should be the obvious captain that week (about 36 of the 38 weeks, I know) but I had a big feeling that SAF would bench him, and I never wrote to all of you….he did sit (played 11 mins or something), I successfully captained someone like Fat Boy, and I’ve been carrying this guilt for many weeks that I didn’t help you poor people.

BTW, your mentions of lower league teams (Hull, Rochdale) are completely lost on Americans. I have to subscribe to Setanta just to get Big-4 EPL games, so I NEVER see the local teams. Please advise me on who to root for in the local towns, and maybe I’ll use them in Fifa 08 (this might have the side effect of causing a storm of emails and get us closer to 300 postings).

    The One

You obviously weren’t listening. Hull City. I know many places have claimed the title, but Hull is the one and only true armpit of the world.
You don’t actually have to watch their games (that would be too cruel anyway), just support them with all your heart and soul. Championship playoffs starting this weekend!!

Are you sure you don’t have some limey blood? “Made me chuckle” is a very English thing to say.

OK, I hear you Alex. I see that Hull vs Watford is on the internet on Sunday morning at 6:30am here….I’ll check it out. It might be tough for me to go against Watford though as I raked in a bunch of points from Ashley Young, Marlon King, and Ben Foster last year.

Up with Hull! (I thought I’d try saying another Brit phrase…I am about 25% or 12.5% English.)

Goodgod, that falsetto could be described as “Burger King, piss and sweat.”

Mighty One: Contrary to Fair Alex’s dis on The Jolly City, I’d have to say that my days lving there were quite pleasant. The only caveat being that I was but a young lad (21) at the time, was a university student, and had an affair with the wife of a diplomat. All true. A simple recipe for idiot living. Then again, it was then that I was infected with Goonerism, so it wasn’t all bad…

As for living in the North, I’m sure yer dad would let you borrow his coal-fired BBQ and inflatable pool as a sort of “Welcome to Me Neighborhood” thing. He is quite gentile. Plus you’d be closer to that steaming dog pile known as Olde Trayffurd.

    Adios,
    -TheNecromancer

I didn’t diss the city, just the tube. I too, as you know, am a Gooner.

BTW, did you write a book about that experience? You should. Then Daniel Day Lewis can play you in the movie.

    My apologies.
I would have to say that the story is only worthwhile as an anonymous example of youthful self-centered ignorance. Actually not one of the prouder elements of my life. Matches at Highbury were definitely a more worthwhile endeavor.
    Besides, does DDL surf?

    Cheers,
    -TheN

Hmm…I’m sure Jason Biggs does. Maybe we should leave out the surfing part and just stick with the sordid affair.

More of a Laird Hamilton guy myself.
I hear he’s looking to break into feature films.
Can you have your agent ring him?

    What’s BiFi?
    -TheN

As you should remember, I got rid of my agent as he couldn’t even get a midget a walk-on part on Willow.
However, I’m sure I know someone who knows someone who knows Hamilton’s hairdresser, so I’ll give it a try.

(Or was that Lewis Hamilton? Hrm…any resemblance by any chance? He might want to venture into acting).

  221. i like also much the nickey shory post. it is very famous in greece. sir alex fergie should get him to shorey up defense. (i do not know what that mean but is quite funny i think, hahaha). thanks for mark to help stavros win the Super Ace Kebab Fantasy League, hooray!!!

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM, the super ace kebab fantasy league sounds great stavros. Can I join said league next year.
Alex: Have you buried puffinboy under your patio???

Actually, I sent him out for some BiFi and Grolsch for the reception, but forgot about the betting office on the way…
I’ll pop in later to beat the flies from his head and tie his shoelaces together.

you makeing the fun of the greeks maybe, thats not nice. you see greece is still champion of europe soon, england not is palying this time. sorry i do not want to offend englsih people.

  222. Hey Necromancer,

Where did you get that name: From the Lord of the Rings, or from the Rush song?

I hope it didn’t have anything to do with hooking up with that MILF in London.

  223. There can really only be one thread for my 2007/8 season valedictory.

It’s nice to see so many lurkers coming out of the woodwork to offer their thanks to Mark, sentiments with which I heartily concur. Hopefully you’ll all stick around and contribute during the quiet months – remember, a forum is for life, not just for Christmas.

Apologies to those who find my off-topic rambling tedious, but hey, it’s easy enough to ignore it. I’ve enjoyed bantering with, among others, Yer Dad, Necro, Alex, Old Gregg, Untitled, Leighton and Al, and there have been some great comments from, er, quieter visitors too.

I’ll almost certainly be finishing 3rd in my league, down 2 places but not bad for my first year in FPL. I’m too pigheaded to slavishly take the smart advice on offer here, but the site has been invaluable for team news and injury reports and I’m sure I’d have been down in the lower reaches of the top 10 without it. Well done to Nick for winning the Scout Picks League, btw.

Right, I can see the producer telling me to get off the stage as it’s time for the next speaker. Good luck to all in their final day battles, unless they’re in one of those non-Prem-only competitions and are waiting on a Joe Ledley hat-trick…

(PS – Necky, it’s gonna hit 80 fahrenheit in London today. I might go surfing on the Thames, waves or no.)

  224. Right, all the part-time c**ts will have f**ked off now, so this forum may just improve a bit. A gritted teeth congrats to your lads YD, and hope you survived the k-hole at your festival, Mark.

So, who’s the Man City manager gonna be, who’s replacing Berbatov etc etc

I have some lint that needs picking from my navel…I’ll join this discussion when I’m done.

I can’t believe a media pro like you has the time to contribute to off-season fora. Aren’t there 2nd division pre-season Dutch games you should be checking out?

Fortunately for me we don’t cover the Dutch league (and that’s over now anyway), so I can fully concentrate on Hull City winning the play-offs. Go Windy Ass!

Well, just about everything went your way today. Better make the most of it.

Nah…I would have liked to see Brum stay up.
And ended up below some chick with a purple striped strip in the Dutch overall rankings, so pissed off about that.

    Did you win your mini-league?

Yes, I won by a landslide. Silly lads. I emasculated all of them.

I knew you would, babe. I’m just glad I wasn’t up against you ;)

    Only before the surgery.

La la la, shooby dooby do etc

  225. Here’s a room, go into it! :-)

    We did, thanks Rob. Mwah.

  226. This is officially now the off-season common room.

I’m baaaaaack. Didn’t see Jack in LA-LA land, but did see Mickey, Minnie, Pooh, and (my favorite) Goofy. It’s how I surf, but didn’t do that either.

A little housekeeping appears to be in order:
-Mighty One: hopefully you are not one of puffin’s “c**nts” (again, Alex, you kiss that mouth?) and are still around. The answer is actually more closely tied to my fondness for Greek mythology, although Tolkien and Rush were both part of me wee-lad days.

-puffinboy: we waterskied the Thames back in the late ’80s, and it was ugly. How was the surfing? Just got word that our Bulgarina has set up a smoothy shop on the North Shore.

-Alex: why are you a Gooner?

    Until next time,
    -TheNecromancer

Oh lord…it goes on a footy forum and is appalled by the language. I guess the salt water takes away one’s sense of logic.
Anyway, never you mind what I do with that mouth. You dirty bugger.

I’m a Gooner because the Gunners are the army of Zeus.

They represent everything that is not evil and rotten.

They are the opposite of Mariah Carey.

Counts? Clints? Chants? OK, I give up.

I’m still here Necromancer. I was hesitant to start posting, but I definitely read the brilliant time-wasting comments that you people write every day. I spend so much time checking for football news that I didn’t want to dive into the commenting realm to eat up more of my time at work/lunch/bathroom/bedroom.

As nerdy as this next comment will sound, do you know the song “The Necromancer” by Rush? If you are gonna be running around using that name, then you should listen to that song….it really cranks.

    Later.
    The One-cromancer

At the risk of upsetting Fair Alex from The Low Lands (isn’t that a character from an early ’70s Rush song?), I can respond in the affirmative to your question. In fact I have even met and had cocktails with the esteemed Lerxst (aka Alexandar Zivojinovich, aka Alex Lifeson). My sales guy in NYC builds his guitar racks.

    Nerd on,
    -TheNecromancer

“What about the voice of Geddy Lee.

How did it get so high?

I wonder if he speaks like an ordinary guy

[I know him, and he does]…”

  227. Cricket season now. Looking forward to some chat on the Test against New Zealand, silly mid off and all that. Cricket in the USA Necro is it taking off or do you struggle with 5 days play and it still ends in a draw.

Not if you watch the IPL, of course. Which I don’t; I’m more your packed-lunch-at-a-dreary-nine-tenths-empty-Chelmsford-in-early-May type of chap. Long live county criczzzz…

    5 days for a draw?
Goodgod, man. I’d rather watch my lawn grow.
    -TheN

  228. Congratulations on the Hull win, Alex. I didn’t see a damn minute of that game on Sunday, but I promise to watch some of today’s game at 2:45pm on Setanta.

    Dank je wel.
Much deserved too. Love me Windy Ass. Though technically they still have tonight to get through.

Above post was indeed nerdy. Please refrain from being nerdy in the Shorey thread. Even if it adds to the posts tally.

  229. You will now notice that make my posts solely in this Shorey thread. I don’t want some young upstart “Final Scout Picks” article to come in here and take the lead for alltime longest ever post. Sure, Mark’s picks deserve the spotlight, but Britain is all about tradition and proper decorum (this is an American writing here), so let’s have some respect now people.

    Also, I am

  230. not afraid

  231. to break up my posts

  232. to prove a point.

    Sincerely,
    The Uno

  233. Scout Bretheren:
Wax your sticks and head West! 90+F inland and 80s at the Coast with an offshore breeze. 8pm high tide gives you ALL DAY to get here. If you don’t want to lug your boards, let me know and I’ll round up some of our old gnarly ones.
Super Dude (longboard) for yer dad!
Pitcher of homemade margaritas for Mark
And a sunset toast with our finest bubbly for the betrothed.
We’ll put the Mighty One in charge of the clam bake.

Gotta duck dive out for a while. All y’all hold down the fort.

    -TheNecromancer

  234. Last post for me for a while too.

Necro, As luck would have it…I’m heading to Los Cabos Mexico tomorrow…and I’m taking a Surfing lesson on Sunday!

I’ll let you know how it goes.

And regarding your proposed get-together, I’ll get nothing but the finest shellfish for our clambake so that our Brit Friends fly back home feeling good and stuffed.

    Later,
    The Singularity

    What about me?
    I’m a sucker for a good clam.

Whereas I clamour for a good… ah Puffinboy, don’t go there.

    Ah, but you did…

I love word games. Let´s play again!

    Fair Alex:
    You must forgive my compatriot.
I would like to think he was unaware of your lineage, rather than being ignorant of the difference(s) between The Jolly Olde Country and The Low Lands. (There is a difference, right??).
Do you have any dietary restrictions? Perhaps some stamppot and pea soup? Or are grilled gehaktballen, blinde vink, and balkenbrij more to your tastes? Just let me know and I will get it sorted.

So can I assume you will be here for dinner and some tasty waves?

    -TheN

P.S. Methinks puffin is a sucker for a good clam hisself.

Oh dear, nothing Dutch please. Although a good gehaktbal every now and then ain´t the worst, I´d rather have some real food.
As long as we top it all off with an all-night chocolate extravaganza.´

But yeah, count me in. No surfing for me, though, I have the coordination of road kill.
(Oh and by the way, there is a difference. Mainly to be found in levels of alcoholism and Oasis haircuts).

Ahhh, that pun killed me. You are quite the cunning linguist.
I’ll bet you $100 I can get you standing on a board before the sun sets. I’ll put you on Super Dude since it looks like yer dad is MIA. If you can stand on one foot for more than 10 seconds you have enough coordination to ride Super Dude, although I’ve never tried to teach road kill to ride.
BTW, to wrap up our Krytonite/Barbie conversation. Search for a surfergirl named Malia Jones you will get an idea of TheNecromancer’s Achilles’ heel. Also, I dug your mythologhical response to my Gunner’s question. We’ll get back to that.

Gotta jet. See you on the beach.

    -TheNecromancer

“If you can stand on one foot for more than 10 seconds you have enough coordination to ride Super Dude”.

Never in my life did I anticipate being on the receiving end of that sentence.
    My compliments.

I firmly believe Super Dude is destined to be ridden by someone else though and I´m sure it´ll be the ride of his life. Just leave me holding a Coke and Puff´s orange leotard and I´m a happy woman.

Excellent choice in women by the way. You almost turned me.

(By the way, did you just search Wikipedia for Dutch cuisine? I´m touched.)

If the super dude board can accomodate my zimmer frame then I am up for it although I did say I had hung up my board for woods and irons for now.
Full house expected at Spotland for our road to wembley 2nd leg on Saturday. Then I have to decide on which weekend to choose.
    Wombats in Cork??
Flat cap and wippets brigade watching Rochdale at Wembley???
Roll us yer cap, here I come.
It is safe now in and around Manchester if anyone wants to
come up now.In our little village yesterday which is 9 miles from the bright lights of Manchester there where swarms of ‘Gers’ fans drinking our pubs dry of warm ale and munching on pork scratchings.
I can understand the mayhem though. When yer mum unplugs the TV to hoover when I am watching Soccer AM, the cat/dog take one look at me and leg it. Imagine upluging a giant TV and hovering in front on 30,000 drunken Scots. Exactly.

Get in touch if the Shorey gets too much.

    pops:
we need to get you away from the clan warfare for a while, and I think Super Dude is just the right call. Elvis could ride the thing. If not, you could just hang on the beach with Alex and her melting bon-bons. I am sure puffin will be in the water chasing sardines or the like.

As for your weekend decision, if I had any idea what either of the options were, I might could weigh in. Alas, my Engrish skills are lacking.

90F in the shade today, laddies and lassies. The margaritas are on me,
    -TheNecromancer

Make mine a large one Necro, 70f up North today. I have had the blow up pool out this week and been the envy of the estate and the coal mine as I can have a wash daily now.

    Weekend dilema could be:
Either watching a band in Southern Ireland with yer mum or a watching my local team(Rochdale A.F.C) play at Wembley in a play off final if they beat the mighty Darlington and then have all my clothes in binliners on my return.

As our friends @ McDonalds would ask w/vacant stares, “You wanna super size that?”
The only questions remaining is whather you prefer your margs blended or on the rocks? salted rim or not? We work top shelf here with your choice of Patron or Cazadores tequilla, a house made orange liqueur that kicks the crap out of Grand Marnier, fresh lime juice and some simple syrup.

As for footy w the boys or tunes with the lassie, it depends on how long and where you would have to sleep in your tent upon your return. If the gentlemen at Rochdale FC will let you pitch your tent somewhere on the grounds, perhaps it would be worth it. Being the loving loyal husband that you are, though, I think we all know that a ferry is in your future…

    Buon viaggio,
    -TheNecromancer

I’m back. Sorry for the reference to my “Brit” friends earlier, when there are such quality people out there like Alex wearing an Orange shirt.

So I took that surfing lesson on Sunday, and one answer must be revealed to all of the Ladies who tune in to this site: Our Necromancer is probably RIPPED! He is probably very muscular…built like a Brick Shithouse! SURFING IS VERY HARD WORK!

Wow. You work your arse off paddling out there for 10 strenuous minutes, then have a blast for 10 seconds. Rinse. Repeat. What a friggin workout!

Of course I now know what you mean by “Super Dude”…it has to be a giant sized surfboard because much like most other things in life: the bigger, the better.

A few of us had small/medium sized boards, and it was very difficult. It (I) was pretty unstable on the thing while just paddling out there….but there were others in my group using gigantic green boards, and for them it was basically like standing on a Cadillac in the Sea of Cortez. I stood up a couple times for a couple seconds, but what a life and what a workout.

Let’s all have a bit more respect for the physical prowess of TheNec around here from now on…OK?

    The Mighty

I’m partial to a bit of bearded clam once in a while. ;)

Yes, it´s romantic talk like this that won me over.

    Warm, fuzzy, romantic moments…

  235. I’ll make sure you two have time alone in the van.
How much time does he need, Alex?

    Over and out,
    -TheNecromancer

Well, if you stick him in a van he´ll be out in no time. I´d rather just stay with the chocolate.

  236. Mmmmmmmmm, Shorey eh?? Never considered him. Cheers Messiah. Did you give Chris Moyles a poke in the eye at the weekend?Hope so.

Well done to your ‘Dale lads, YD. I told you there was never a doubt. See you and the whippet down in the Smoke next week then, Yer Mum permitting.

Be careful when crossing the road, mind – we have speedy automobiles down here, not trams and horses & carts. Actually, no need to worry, they only go about 10mph as London is one huge traffic jam.

Cheers Puffinboy. What a day. First time in my long life I have invaded a pitch and sang ” we’re on our way to Wembley”. I will fly to Ireland and then fly to the big smoke on Monday. Everyone is a winner then, including yer mum. I love football.

I invaded my school pitch when I was 8 and sang “we’re on our way to Wembley”. I got a week’s detention and six strokes of the cane.

Good old days eh, I miss them,. I have had to pester Air Lingus tonight and gave up because i am pissed. Flat caps and whippets invading London next week, Did you see me on Sky Sports???

I saw you giving Perkins a kick up the arse when he got sent off.

He was unlucky the little blond bombshell. He has a temper though and that is his 3rd red this season.

Rochdale fans have to go through ticketmaster to get tickets. We have only just been introduced to the internet up here and now we are being asked buy things using debit cards. We use cash and trade in livestock up here are they mad? Anyway, I managed to buy 9 tickets yesterday and I think I will need my best spectacles as I think I am in the clouds. What a sh*t way to buy football tickets.

I love you yer dad. Kippers tonight for your tea for being a lovely hubby and spending a fortune on changing your travel plans. Ireland and Wembley all in one weekend for yer mum.

300th post. Anytime yer mum. Thought you was at yer Auntie Nelly’s??

  237. Mighty: Good to hear you made it back safely from MX. I meant to suggest bringing a drop line with you so that, when you got tired, you could paddle out past the break and do a little fishing. When I was in Cabo in 2004 we did that and brought back a nice dorado for some most excellent fish tacos.
As for being ripped, I plan to wear a lycra tux to the Alex v Puffin wedding event, so you’ll be able to judge for yourself. Kelly Slater I am not, however.

yer dad: very much looking forward to you regaling us with stories of celtic toe-tapping and Wembley hooliganism. As the great George W Bush would say, “Bring it on!”

    Happy trails,
    -TheNecromancer

  238. I’ve been reading this site since about Gameweek 4 of last season. However, have only recently started posting too. So under Puffin’s instruction…

I am posting in here as i want to part of this masonic clique.

Please accept me! I await with bared ass for my paddling.

Ok ok, you’re accepted, welcome welcome. Now please put your arse away, young fellow. This is the legendary Shorey thread and we’ll suffer no nudity or bad language here.

(ignore my own foul tirade earlier in the thread, though in my defence I did use asterisks)

  239. hi puffinboy, posting my first message in this legendary Shorey thread.

  240. *Sigh*

Now look what you did, Puff…

Also, the “no nudity” rule is completely new to me. Does this mean I’ll have to start wearing clothes now? Or only when posting in the Shorey thread?

I post half naked with my Turkish neighbour and now my new best friend, is that allowed in the Shorey thread?? Hope so.

    pops:
Depends on which half is catchin’ the sun (see below).
    -TheN

Necro. We swap at half time allowing for a good all round tan from our 6 tube sun lamp.

    Agreed, Alex.
The “shorey” clubhouse should welcome all comers (animal, vegetable or mineral), as long as they agree to discuss anything BUT fantasy football. I would vote for a clothing-optional, verbal-abuse-free environment.

Being a True-ish Gentleman, I promise to don at least a tube sock and use asterisks since we are in mixed company.
    -TheN

The general consensus seems to be in favour of nude posting, no swearing and no FF talk, so in a fair and true democracy like the Scout forum this shall now be passed into law.

Ah, can we at least swear a bit? Just a bit? Come on…I do my best swearing when naked.

Hmm, maybe. But any massive amounts of swearing and/or bad spelling/text speak will see the perpetrator despatched to Equatorial Guinea and a bunk-up with Simon Mann (and, God willing, Mark Thatcher) in Black Beach prison.

Why not just force them to advise Ollie for the rest of the season? On his team, his haircut, and his television viewing.

    Puff:
You are circumventing the bylaws as usual.
Regardless, my voice vote is “Yay” or “Aye” as the case may be.
Gotta ditch this f*cking wool tube sock, tho.
    -TheN

  241. I bet Big Phil wishes he was at Stamford Bridge already – the ‘efficient Germans’ are giving Portugal a tonking at the moment.

  242. I put a few shilling on this going to penalties as well but I thing “da germens” (in Stan Boardman type accent) will see the winker off.

Edit: Wait on they coming back.

Hold on a mo, the dagoes (or is it the wops?) have scored. Ho hum, at least jocular racism hasn’t been banned from the Shorey yet, it seems.

  243. Now now…jumping to conclusions, are we?

If they can just stop playing that f*cking annoying music every time someone scores I might just enjoy this match.

  244. Noun: dago (dagos,dagoes) deygow
    Usage: offensive
(ethnic slur) a person of Italian descent
    Derived forms: dagoes, dagos

Wop is an English pejorative ethnic slur for a person of Italian descent. It is derived from the Neapolitan word “guappo”, meaning a person who flaunts an overbearingly cocky and swaggering attitude.

I wear my tight Italian top on matchdays and have never been called a dago or a wop. What have you got against Italians Puffin.

Where do I start? :) Anyway, I was racially insulting the Portuguese, or at least attempting to.

I think spics was the word I was looking for.

I think that’s only for people of Hispanic descent.
    One more try.
F*ck that up and you’re Ollie’s new life coach.

    Maddy murderers?

Watch it Puff, or i will be forced to point out that you are simply the bastard child of a wayward penguin and a horny toucan.

I find terms such as “swarthy” “well-oiled” and “effeminate” useful for ridiculing pretty much any males hailing from the Med (except the French, of course, for whom one would have to replace swarthy with “jokingly unworthy of their women”).

    -TheN

I’ve been called ‘well-oiled’ after a night down the pub.

    Well oiled beef hooked!

    Didn’t realize Reflex was considered a pub…

I think you may find the horny bird in question was actually just a pigeon.

My folks checked his family tree when we announced our nuptials.

Ah, that’d explain why I walk in that funny way…

Nah, that thong just takes some getting used to.

  245. I have just signed up for Nikes most wanted. I think I have still got it and will get my boots from the attic and blow the dust off. Anyone else fancy it??

  246. When you have finished making your millions in the big smoke Puffin, i might get you an interview as our council equal opps and diversity advisor.

da da da da da da da da da da. I like that tune. 3-1

They have equal opps advisors down t’pits? Would never’ve happened in Arthur’s day…

Not now but we could get rid of a few canaries and Bert who pulls the cart and the job is yours.

Right, who has got a good bet for tomorrow. I joined William Hill on line tonight and I have a free £10 bet. Apart from Pavlochuykakenko scoring 1st goal last night, i have been terrible. Oh and the Wops winning cup outright.

da da da da da da da da da da 3-2 wait on me penalties could be on

The usual bottling from the Portugueezers. I expect the Dutch to revert to type soon.

  247. Easy to find. December, scroll down to December 4th and ‘hey presto’ as the great Paul Daniels used to say or did he?
Waiting for Leightons saturday tips now FPL is under way, well sort of. I have my new online William Hill account and it is bursting at the seams after Euro 08.

For the likes of you and I, yes. For newbies coming to worship at the Church of Shorey, not so easy.

Have a couple of bob on Andy Schleck for the Tour de Drugs at 16/1. It starts today.

I am Shore they will find it after a quick Cech through the Neil Webb(postman last time I heard) pages but like yer say, it will be easier with this new Van Der Format.

I can bet on who is going to win Big Brother online with William Hill but Tour de France is nowhere to be seen. Might have to go to local bookies with my whippets when I take them walkies to gamble on this Schleck fellow.

I know I’ve said it before but a Betfair account is simply a must-have for the modern debonair gentleman-about-town.

Since you’re betting against other punters you’ll always (and I mean ALWAYS) get better odds than with a bookie, and you’ll be hard pressed to find a sporting (or cultural/political/etc) event that’s not covered on the site.

(Can I have my 5% promotional fee now, Mr Betfair?)

Just set one up Martin. Will sit down with a cup of Yorkshire tea and a scone now and get my head round it all now.

All sorted now? I just hope yer mum doesn’t come after me with a rolling pin after you fritter away the family savings, Pops.

Schlecky did ok in the time trial today and is still well in the hunt with mountain stages on the horizon. Oddly enough, another Luxemburger (and 4-time Luxembourgian Sportsman of the Year), Kim Kirchen, has emerged as a major contender. Must be all those hills in Luxembourg City ;)

To any of the myriad newbies (and oldbies), feel free to enter the Church of Shorey (please take off your shoes at the door) and unburden your mind and soul, but on no account foul its steps with any mention of fantasy football; you have a million other threads in which to do so.

Hey Necky, where are you? I hope a big wave hasn’t swept you away. Alex misses you, you old hippie bugger.

Only need another 19 riders to get booted out and our Andy’s the winner…

  248. My hat is duly doffed, Mark. And Shorey was so easy to find.

Wow, Mark…This site just keeps getting better and better. I am so proud of the work that you’ve done that I ALMOST feel like telling the other members of my League now. Alas, I shall not do it, though.
They’ll have to find it on their own!

  249. 4 times Luxembourgian player of the year Puffin. I think you will find he was also winner in 2000 which would make it 5. Does not beat Jeanney Dom the famous table tennis player with 7 wins. Can’t wait for this years show.

  250. How come when I use the pits pc I have my picture on the comments page but my old Sydney Harbour picture on recent comments section. Can anyone else see this?? Should I be concentrating on my team now and stop worrying over little things like this?? Please help. See, it is there again.

No sign of the bridge on my PC.

  251. Cheers Puffin. It must be something to do with the pits pc and I am glad someone put my mind at ease.

What do you think of our chances in the table tennis at the smoggy olympics this year Puffin? I know that ping pong is a favourite pastime of Puffins in the Faroe Islands and you will have a clear insight. Is Matthew Syeeeed the great defensive ping ponger playing this year?? What happened to the great 16 year male prodigy who played at the world championships?

I think Mr Syed will be commentating for Eurosport. Well, he would be if they had Olympic coverage.

He also stood as the Labour candidate for Wokingham in the 2001 General Election, but was unsuccessful.
I copied his style of play last year in the over 60’s competition in the annual working mens club championships against Ernie Swislebank, who also copied his style of play. The game lasted 2 days with me eventually winning by default as Ernie had a hospital appointment on the Monday morning.

Who’s your fancy for the Open? My five vs the field are Furyk, Westwood, Els, Jimenez and that little 12 year-old cherub Justin Rose.

  252. Has anyone tried typing in the messiah’s name into Facebook? (You might find it on the Scout’s FPL league…) There’s only 1…

  253. Shorey might be going to Villa for about £5m, I’ve heard. I guess they need a Bouma replacement.

A Shoreyless Premier League would be a disaster.

  254. This season if let you choose 3 or 2 forward for long period(can’t sell, cooperated with your team budget), which forward will you choose?

    I will choose F.Torres R.Santa Cruz Yakubu

    what about you? THX!

Now now, no mention of FF allowed in the Shorey thread. Them’s the rules.

  255. Liverpool have signed two new players today Puffin, a Chinese forward and an Italian defender, Rafa said they will fit in well with Liverpool – They are Rob Atele & Nick Amota and at 8m each I am sure they will rack up them points.

They’ve also confirmed their interest in Jack Yorfone, a promising young winger born and bred in Toxteth. I’m sure he’ll do them proud.

  256. I think I will have that one yer dad. Classic comedy and timing.

  257. All yours Frank. I am doing stand up at my local working mens club on Saturday nights after bingo. That is currently my opening gag and I am now looking for a closing gag which can also be Liverpool related.

    Here’s one Pops:

    Q. what do you call a Manc who flies to Ireland to see a Scouse band that doesn’t show up?

    A. A dingbat? Nope, a wombat.

OK, that one needs a little work. It’s the way I tell ‘em, I guess.

  258. Needs some work that one Puffin. It sounds too unbeliveable and the punters might not get it.
Watched Gorden Ramsey last night and he went to Iceland as it was Puffin catching season. I am sure the first one he caught was a relative of yours as the little feisty fellow choose to bite the crazy scot on the nose while sqawking nonsense that Liverpool will fnished higher than 4th again this season.

Seven foot lemming: I will use that one in the middle of my act. Nice one, keep them coming. Remember, must be Liverpool related

I think there might be a swear filter in operation. Donkeybollocks!

  259. That was my 6th cousin twice-removed, Svalbard. He hates irritating chefs so much he once flew to Essex just to crap on Jamie Oliver’s head.

Liverpool will finish a place above Utd in 2nd this year.

  260. Looks like you where right Mark. Well, even though it may not be United and your prediction was in December, I think he will be Shoring up someones defence.
My source, well the BBC website states:
Reading manager Steve Coppell says he wants the Nicky Shorey transfer saga settled as soon as possible.
The full-back has been linked with a number of clubs for the past year and Coppell says he will be allowed to leave if the offer is right.
He told BBC Radio Berkshire: “For the last year he’s said on a number of occasions he’d like a fresh challenge.
Can you have a poll on who’s defence he may be Shoring please.

  261. mark, do you have a counter or tracker to measure the sites traffic. I dont remember it being this busy at any stage last year but i didnt find it until oct. it seems to have exploded.well done. maybe yer dads dusty noggin will remember!

Completely agree higgo! I started leeching off opinions last November and i swear it was never this busy. But then we did miss all the pre-season build up… Mark, oh messiah of stats, can you enlighten us??

  262. I’ve been milking this info-cow since last pre-season and I agree with you, it definitely seems more popular this year. I reckon it won’t be long until it gets a mention in a newspaper with a fanatsy football game and then it’ll really get big.

I can’t believe Mark does it all for free. There aren’t even any adverts. This is the only website I’ve ever used that I would actually be happy to pay a yearly subscription to use.

Traffic is increasing on a daily basis. There was one single day last season (August 9th) that we’ve yet to beat but it’s very close and we’re certain to beat it – probably today.

It’s not just the traffic that’s grown but the number of you guys posting comments on a regular basis. The community we’re building here is superb and well beyond my expectations.

The comments and emails I get are the things that are providing real motivation for me to make the site bigger and better so I can’t thank you guys enough for the support. Plus all your comments and compliments give me something to present to my missus to justify the time I spend on it :-)

It’s certainly picked up a hell of a lot – I can’t get a word in edgeways nowadays… and the season hasn’t even begun. There were days last season when I was the only person around, so I’d talk to myself. It were all green fields ‘n’ all…

Anyway, for those of you hard of hearing, here is the news: NICKY WILL BE TRYING TO SHOREY UP ASTON VILLA’S DEFENCE.

Where has everyone come from and how have they found the site, or do the number of people getting involved drop off as the season gets going? I found this site mid last season and the main people i can remember were: yer dad and puffin obviously, the moz, brad, alex, alex, sam, the nec, and CK. There seems to be less people in FPL this year so that further compounds the mystery of where everyone has come from. perhaps it’s because googling “fantasy football tips” brings this site up as the first link? Perhaps is because it’s such a bloody good site that people are starting to hear about it. I haven’t told anyone in my league tho, the info on here is way too valuable to share ;o)

  263. November-ish last season, I was trying to work out if Fabregas would be rotated (no, as it turned out). I was posting as Docter Sanchez last season, and it may be that other people have changed their names too.

On a seperate note, I’ve just posted an explaination of how the pricing system works (not my discovery I must add) about halfway down the Young and Shorey thread. Its not the first time, but no-one ever seems to notice. Please reply to it somebody so I know that I’m not hallucinating (or a figment of Ed Norton’s imagination).

oo me sir (sticks and up and waves it enthusiasticaly) me, me i noticed, even refered to it in the shorey/young thread (couldn’t remember exactly what you said tho….sorry)

Have a biscuit and a pat on the head. If you’re lucky I’ll rub your tummy later.

doh, double posted reply, must be slow update due to all the traffic on here tonight

Ah yes, Dr Sanchez. Wasn’t it you who had the ‘Carry On incident’ with the prostitute somewhere in the north of England? Nice to see some old skoolers still around.

For anyone wondering about my ex-bride-to-be Alex (negotiations are still ongoing – you can’t rush these things), she’s had enough of FF at the moment but I’m sure she’ll drop by to diss some unsuspecting newcomer during the season. Yer dad and myself are in an FPL league of two, and as for Surfer Boy Necky, who knows?

I promise that once the season begins I will, at least once, post something to do with fantasy football. At the moment, I’m still in cricket mode.

I’m actually quite looking forward to the Olympics too, though I expect I’m in a minority of one on that.

Well remembered sir! Its not something I’m likely to forget.

    Puff, Pops, et al:
I have been in Beijing actually in support of our boy Todd Rogers (beach volleyballer). Just now have gotten my computer to relay through work back in Wine Country. Extraordinarily drunk (i.e., pissed) at this moment, but looking forward to the Prem season. As for the Shorey league, I am reluctant to join since I barely have time to keep my eye on my local slugfest on Yahoo!
Am I the only one who finds the new site a little less cozy?
    Wharz Fair Alex these daze?
Love and Whirled Peas to you all,
    -TheNecromancer

  264. After finding this site by googling “fantasy footy tips” i posted a link in a busy liverpool forum fantasy footy thread, all pool fans read all the pool forums as do most fans i suppose,so maybe that has generated a bit of traffic.Even everton fans have joined the league i posted it in,so they may have seen the link as well, great site by the way.

  265. In fact ive just posted a thread on this site and its very busy.

    http://www.redandwhitekop.com/.....board=32.0

  266. Ill post it on talklfc.com aswell. Weve got our own little league on their so think the lads on it will find this site very helpfull.
Keep up the good work mark.

Thanks guys. I’ve never really taken time out to do “sales and marketing” but I’m trying to pimp the site out to a few blogs, forums etc of late. The growth has come purely from google I think, which is a good sign as visitors appear to find the site and then revisit.

Any links people can post on club forums or indeed, anywhere where there could be interest, is much appreciated.

No, no, no, the site must remain secret to the chosen few!! ;)

It’d be like seeing Nick Drake get a #1 album – you’d be kind of proud but horrified at the same time.

  267. Sorry Mark, I am not telling anyone about the site as cash is up for grabs this season, so they can find it for themselves.

The site has been really busy which is great and all the new posters, welcome but I am a little worried if this site has been mentioned on the Liverpool site and we get posters like this:

Tezza: I think Gerrard would be a good choice for captain this week and also I have a 50 inch tv for sale, still boxed.

Bazzer: I am going for Torres Tezza and also I have a few Ipods and Sat navs if anyone would like one. How much for the TV Tezza?

Tezza: Your right about Torres and you can have the tv for £200 Bazza

    Bazzer: Sound Tezza

  268. Eh, I will have dat friggin tv Tezza but I will giv u £130 n a Xbox mate.

    I bloody well knew it.

  269. Ey, Bazzer and Tezza. Shall we nip round to Gerrard’s house now as I know he is not home. Just seem him on TV on the bench. See you at the Liver Birds in 20 minutes.

  270. Wow- all this chat! Have I been sleeping….??

Welcome back OG. Nice nap, I hope.

This is my 69th post in the Shorey, but I’m still only in the silver medal position.

    Hey puffinboy. Who’s in first?

Well if it ain’t me it’s a certain old codger. I’m sad enough to count my own posts, but not quite sad enough to count YD’s.

Not me, I actually counted mine last night and fell asleep. 40 when I counted them this morning.

    Must be me then.

Great stuff this Shorey thread was kept going! Just been reading over some of the older stuff… What happened to Mad, corey, Havers?!

They’ll be back, one must hope. Neck’s back even though he’s in Beijing.

They always come back, tail between the legs….

Ha-ha! Everyone left and were replaced with weirdos.

  271. Looking forward to Super Saturday, Dad? Six golds, they reckon, though I’m saying three. Swimmer girl, cycling bloke and rowing chaps. Maybe yachting fellow too.

Ms Adlington is looking a cert yeah. It is not looking good in the running/jumping and throwing arena though. I had to laugh when the diving fellow rang his mum just before his last dive. What sort of conversation do you need to have with your mum when your just about to dive in the final of the Olympics.
Are my speedos too tight?? What do you want for xmas?? can you put my butties up for the morning?? I give up.

I think he was wondering if people thought he was a perv, hanging out with 14-yr-old boys. As you would.

Think we can get Shorey up to 400 tonight?

Yeah and in the shower with him live on the BBC.
Yer mum is at the hospital tonight holding her sisters hand while she produces our next diving hopefull for the 2012 London games. I on the other have been drinking lager and texing kind words while concentrating on FPL.

I would loooove it if we had a 3-year-old British diving Olympic champ, even if they came from Manchester.

So, who’s in your team? ;)

Then he would be on the phone to his mum just before a difficult 3.5 dive saying “want a poo poo mummy” now that would be allowed.

i am going with a 3-4-3. Cech in goal

I should go to bed now, but with the 400 so close I just can’t risk it. Oh, the nerves… where’s my Lambert and Butlers…

Well, we got 4, which wasn’t too shabby. Next up: Radcliffe to come 43rd in the marathon and more rowing, sailing and cycling gongs.

Nearly had the sailing one you predicted as well Puffin. I can’t understand why the Chinese officials did not round up 500,000 locals with straws and order them to blow.

Most amazing piece of sporting tv today, including Cantona’s kung fu kick was Usain Bolt’s amazing run today. The fastest man on earth is also the coolest man on earth. Brilliant.

Have you noticed that there’s a really slow bike race taking place on the far shore whenever a rowing event is going on?

I missed that Cantona action, was he playing in the +100kg Beach Volleyball?

  272. I would prefer it if you gt the 400th post Puffin as I would like the 399th as that is my lucky number.

  273. A win for the Puffin!!

I doff my hat. I was too eager and lost by 0.034 sec. I

I’ve been training hard at the Haringey athletics track and Ponds Forge swimming pool just for this moment. Sharon, I’m so glad all the hard work paid off, and can I just say a quick thanks to all my family and friends who’ve supported me, and to the Lottery funding people of course.

.. and by extension, all those of you who have bought lottery tickets in the last ten years. Sitting in front of your telly watching Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway with your ready meal before watching those balls come down and screwing up your pieces of paper.. This one’s for you!

The 400 was nice, but it was just a bonus really, Sue. If I can’t win the 500 in my home town then I’ll be gutted, frankly.

I have been looking at your photo Old Gregg, have you lost weight old chum??

Yes, quite a lot of weight, sitting on my rock just contemplating the world….. will I ever reach enlightment? Who cares if you’ve got a six pack!

Your moustache is looking as perky as always I must say sir.

Did you see the guy who spat his dummy out(think it was roman wrestling)and walked off the podium and threw his medal on the floor? Well that is me at this moment but without the podium.

Did you see the Russian weightlifting woman the other day? She failed with her lift and started bawling, and on her way out she banged her head against a concrete wall! Harsh..

If the equanimitous Swedes get in a strop, what hope is there for us hot-blooded Brits?

That was great TV and just think everytime it gets played she gets £250 and Harry Hill shouting “fight, fight, fight” when she comes up against the wall.

So what’s the order of the Big 4 this time? Chel, us, Scum and Arse? lol

I think we may disagree on this one.

    1)Man Utd
    2)Chelsea
3)Liverpool (after Arsenal deducted 10 points for fielding Kenny Sansom)
4)Arsenal (10 points deducted, see above)

I like the look of that predicted order, Dad. Nice.

  274. I’ll commit to Chelsea, Utd, Pool, Arse

  275. All:
Jeezus Christ with a bag of salted peanuts, the board is waaaaay too crowded, so I hope all y’all are checking Shorey regularly. Some housekeepiong before heading to a late dinner:
Puff: hardly have time for Yahoo! so playing patsy in the Shorey league probably won’t happen.
Pops: while likely accurate, I think your predicted order sucks roasted rat with a side of ewe tripe.
Alex: please try to keep Puff focused whilst you two “play” up front on Team Mighty.
Mighty: Representation of The Motherland is in your hands.
Not a big one for chanting and flag waving, but we did have fun taunting a group of Froggies by pretending to swim as we walked by them at a restaurant. Nice geezers, though, as they laughed and bought us a round of beers.
    Gotsta role, lady and dudes.

    Consecrated but not devout,
    -TheNecromancer

Hey Nec, how come the US media does its table in order of total medals won rather than golds? It wouldn’t be because China’s kicking Yankee butt when it comes to winning events, would it? :)

  276. Get a load of that medals table! And if it wasn’t for the human fish we’d be level with the Yanks in golds.

Not strictly true, as others yanks would’ve won the events that Phelps has won had he not participated.

Still 11 is incredible, up by 2 on Athens already.

    RULE BRITANNIA!

  277. Nice work from the Brabster on the pond today, Nigel. He’s on for the double tomorrow morning, we need that one to stave off them Russkies.

Yeah, I watched that, the boxing and the young tae kwondo fellow before I went to work this morning trying to think of an excuse for lateness. He is a Dr in his spare time as well.
You been busy with the Olympic stuff Martin??

No, it was all done weeks ago.

They beat us into 4th place then go and win the Super cup and want to start the Cold War again. I will now refrain from vodka and trade my Lada as protest.

    431

    Just change your perspective, Pops.
In a medals per capita or, better yet, medals per square mile of landmass the Jolly Olde Country trounced all others in the top of the table.
You should be drinking Scotch anyway, vodka is for little girls.

    Salute,
    -TheNecromancer

PS How about that Zaki! And Jaask with a solid points haul as well. Things are looking up for Cynical Challenge.

  278. “It’ll be nice to know that every gallon of petrol a Manchester United fan buys is going into our transfer kitty.”
Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher can barely contain his delight after the Abu Dhabi United Group takeover at Manchester City.

a great quote over at the bbc quotes
    http://www.news.bbc.co.uk/spor.....606292.stm

May I also quote Noel Gallagher:

“What a life it would be/
If you could come to mine for tea”

  279. I was in a restaurant last night and Noel Gallagher was in with his agent having a big bowl of soup as a starter. He was enjoying the soup when the waiter interupted and said excuse me Mr Gallager, “would you like a roll with it”?

  280. I have added it to my favourites, greetings. Many thanks

  281. Just stopped by for a second to relive the old days.

This Shorey Thread is the equivalent of an old stadium with small cramped seats (built when people were shorter and had less vitamins to eat during the Depression)….but now is rendered obsolete by the new fancy stadium (crowds flocking to comment on Mark’s sweet new fancy daily articles).

    Back to work I guess.

    One

  282. Mark,

Please know that the day you decide to switch over to an Advertisement-based or Subscription-based system for this website, I will sign up and pay immediately.

Thanks for all of your efforts.

    Sincerely,
One and All on the Scout Site.

  283. Where are all my old buddies? Necro, Puff & Alex, Dad, Gregg?

Are all of the frantic posts on this site keeping you too annoyed to post anything?

I see that CK, Higgo, and B&B are still commenting, and I’m certain that the rest of you haven’t moved off of this site completely.

I too have simply been enjoying and (profiting from) Mark’s Wisdom, and not posting many comments. I have an itchy keyboard finger sometimes though to make snide comments lately, but I’m sticking with the idea that “If you don’t have something good to say then it’s better to say nothing at all”.

Part of the success for Mark in the growth of this site is to attract lots of action. Well done, Markus (I can only be so bold to call you that because you’ve entertained my for many weeks running now).

Back in the olden days (ummm….like a year ago) we would never have had the Cajones to directly ASK Mark his advice on the minor dilemmas in our lineups. We just bathed in his semi-supreme knowledge, and then went out and whooped some arse in our own mini-leagues.

Just saying a quick Hello then, as I’m certain that you’re all just looking on from afar.

    One

  284. Just a quick note to let yer dad, Nec, TMO and any other ex-Shoreys know that Puffin and Alex will be meeting up in the Smoke this weekend, Jah willing. Don’t worry, it’s not for the wedding. Alex is going to the Arse-Scum game and I’m… not.

Not doing too badly in the FPL, tucked in the top 8,000. All down to the Winker and the Fat Lad, of course.

I remember when the site used to run sooooo slowly.

Respect to Mark for all his hard work.

You should set up a donation box

I guess that is exactly what the Shorey thread is: a Donation Box…..and of course it is also a Wedding Rehearsal Dinner restaurant, and a meeting lounge after a hard day’s FPL-ing.

Great to hear from you Puff! After not seeing your comments much this year, Yer Dad briefly supposed that you might actually be yanking all of our chains by being this Fran person, and trying to torture us all with your wit.

We were sure though that you wouldn’t do that to us.

By the way, with us Americanos you cannot use the word “Smoke” without explaining the meaning….I don’t understand references like that: Does it simply mean London? I’m coming along, but slowly, I know.

    Take care buddy.
    TMO

It does mean London, TMO, though I think only mockney gangsters and Jamie Oliver (and me) are dumb enough to still use the phrase.

No sign of The Nec or the Fair Alex on here these days, though I did meet up with the latter a few weeks ago. The poor girl was forced to suffer my attempts at a roast chicken dinner. I felt bad cooking a fellow bird, let me assure you.

So, how’s fantasy football treating you this season? At time of writing I’m about 60 pts ahead of Yer Dad in the Shorey Up the Defence League, and 2,600th overall in FPL.

    Ta-ra.

  285. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to Alex, Mighty One, The Nec, Old Gregg and anyone else from the Shorey days.

Oh, and Yer Dad too. Use that wildcard wisely, Glasshopper.

And a big thanks and well done to Mark for the net’s premier FF site.

  286. Merry Christmas Mark & guys, hope you all do well over this busy festive period. I’m not quite such old timers as you guys, but did get involved early last season when there only seemed to be a handful of regular posters, unlike these days when hundreds of people pretend to be someone else so they can insult each other.

  287. Decided to revisit the Shorey thread tonight and have a little re-read. In the Shorey League Puffin is running away with it and is in line for the prize of 44inch panasonic tv. He is on fire this season and deserves his Pope title.
I will be in USA at the end of March if The Nec or Mighty are reading this. I have a trip planned to West Coast and my surfing needs a few pointers, so I if I get past US customs, I will expect a lesson Nec.

Hmm, almost forgot about Shorey – rather like Villa have.

I don’t think they let over-70s into the US anymore – Barack wants his country to be young and virile, Pops.

44″ TV, you say? I’m not sure I’d be happy seeing a giant Richard Keys looming up at me. But I won’t turn it down if I manage to stay ahead.

  288. I set a bookmark on the Shorey page, but I have forgotten to check back in here lately.

Thanks for the comments by Puff & Steve & Dad…..So true that there are some weird Posters on the site now, but ultimately that traffic is a great tribute to Mark.

I see that you three have been putting out a few comments lately on the regular daily activity.

No word from the Nec for quite a while. I hope he’s doing well. I really like the song “Hey Oh (Snow)” by the RHCP, thanks to him. Awesome song.

Yer Dad….I’m in Boston, so I hope your trip to the West Coast is fun. Only come to Boston if you want to freeze and meet cool people.

I cannot join any of your mini-leagues because my main rival is following my team page very closely (he keeps an eye on my transfer count every day), so I cannot bring him onto this site yet.

I was kicking arse for the first few months (got up to #18 in the US){although that probably means I was only ahead of 3 people}, but now I’ve dropped back.

And what is your real relationship with Fair Alex, Puff? Any chance that there will be a real wedding some day, in addition to our fake one here?

I’m sure we’ll all be back on this thread in the Summertime when Puff threatens us again.

    Later.
    The One

  289. A couple more things, Puff:

I looked at the Shorey DFence league….Is Yer Dad = “Paul” and Alex = “Donna”?

I see that you’re on 1,349 points, well done….I’m on 1,304….so very close, but I see that you have solid depth on the bench, while I always have junk on the bench at the 2nd & 3rd extra spots. I’m gonna fix that.

    Out.
    One

  290. First!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  291. It’s about time we had a ‘first’ on the thread that wouldn’t (quite) die. Good work Obama.

Shorey should ask for a loan back to Reading, I reckon.
