Some Xmas site changes

While the Turkey is in the oven and things are quiet on the news front, I’d thought I’d work on some small site changes. I’ve played around with the right-hand menu a little - what I like to call the “technical area” of the site.

You may have noticed in the last week, further down the right menu, I’ve created a “Forthcoming Fixtures” table. I’ve now promoted this up the menu as I feel it can be very useful. This lists the next five games for all teams so that you can see at a glance, the distribution of home and away games and the opponents for each team over the coming month.

I’ll update this each gameweek and I’m thinking of highlighting those teams which appear to have favourable fixtures by highlighting rows so you can see, even more clearly, which teams to consider week by week.

I’ve also tidied up the “Suspension Tightrope”. I’ve filtered this by those on the verge of ten bookings and those sitting precariously on four bookings. These are the players that you really need to be wary of after all. The table is also now fully updated and ordered by club within each bracket. I’ve created a full table so you can track the bigger picture here. There’s still some “cosmetic” work to do on that page but I’ll be done with it soon.

That’s about it for now. I’ve got some more plans for the New Year and some things I’m going to propose to see what the reaction is via the poll.

Happy Christmas and Good luck on Boxing Day.

  1. The forthcoming fixtures is a nice idea, saves me looking at each team’s fixtures individually from now on.

The best suggestion i’ve heard would be to add a forum to the site. That way it’d be easier for us to discuss things in specific topics, etc. Might be something to consider anyway.

Keep up the good work! And have a good christmas.

  2. Upcoming fixtures, yet another very good idea. Perhaps I can suggest further maybe putting an (’*') next to the name of clubs with particular easy (or hard) run of fixtures in the next 5 just to flag them up to people?

Im surprised not to see anyone wanting to stick some advertising banners on this site - maybe adding a view counter might encourage some enquiries from would be advertisors, make some well deserved wedge for all your hard work

  4. Thanks guys. I am thinking about a forum and will look into the work involved over the next few weeks. It could be that I see out this season and then make some bigger changes in the Summer but if I can introduce new stuff before then, I’ll certainly try.

I have had requests for adverts. Nothing major though. I might consider it but I’m not going to go looking for it. I’d like to keep things ad free and just keep things ticking over and let the traffic grow through word of mouth. I may well redesign in the summer and see where that goes from there.

As always, thanks for all your support. It’s great to see a community growing on the site and that will always provide a bigger an incentive for me than any cash I can make from ads.

  6. Apart from United and at first glance, I like the look of Bolton and Portsmouth’s fixtures after tomorrow.

  7. Great job, Mark! and Happy Christmas!

Agree with IA about the “*” idea next to the name of the clubs having good fixtures.

Agree with Mark of good fixtures. That’s why I still keep James as my Goaly. And it’s also the good time to have Ronaldo and Anelka in your team ;)

  8. Good job as always.

Can someone tell me who will be in Everton’s defence one Yobo goes to Africa?

In the fantasy game I play both Lescott and Jagielka are centre backs, but I understand Lescotss benig played as a full back?

Anyway, if you could say the likely 4 after Yobo, thx.

  9. Mate what you do with this site is unbelievable and keep up the good work.
Being from Aus and up against two Englishman in a couple of different fantasy football leagues I didn’t want to share with them where I was getting my information from but this is just to good not to pass on.
Just wondering if they would have done the same thing what with the rivalry between us.
    I THINK NOT

  11. PS Agree too about Bolton and United’s upcoming fixtures - now whether to keep Tevez or transfer Anelka in next gameweek hmmmmmmmmm.

  12. Liverpool also have a decent-ish ru of fixtures. I only narrowly decided against Torres for captains armband today, for fear that he may get rested against derby.
