New Year Scout Picks
If you refresh you’ll see my Scout Picks for the New Year Games. Sadly, I don’t have time to go into detail behind these as I’m racing off down the M4 for a party in 10 minutes. However, I will say that as usual I’ve stuck to the two players per club rule and that the chance of players being rested has played a part in my selection - hence the likes of Kitson get in my eleven over Santa Cruz, Torres etc. As always you can scroll down the right-hand menu to see my weekly player rankings for some more options for these positions.
I’ll leave you to debate the lineup and the players I should have picked over the next 24 hours. I have done an early pass over the team news for these games but I won’t be able to update this further over the next 24-hours.
All that leaves me to do is to wish you a Happy New Year. See you in 2008.

Thanks all the excellent scout picks and notes. Keep up the great work.
Happy New Year to all managers and good luck with your captain choice tomorrow.

i have 6 of the scout picks team

gallas,all 4 midfielders
and berbatov
BUT , my problem is who to have as a captain, i have anelka up front aswell, i got 79 points last week in fpl last week thanks to berba but who captain this week
Berba,anelka,bentley or ronaldo
Please give me some tips in desperate need for a captain
[Reply]
Seeing as it’s new year’s day, I’m base your choice of captain on who is least likely to get pissed the night before.
Bentley’s English- so that rules him out automatically.
I can imagine Berbatov nailing a few Gin and Tonics.
Ronaldo will probably wet his lips with a Sambuca and then throw up.
So that leaves La Sulk- Nicholas Anelka!
[Reply]
Need help. Berba, Tevez or Anelka?
[Reply]
So captain? Ronaldo? is he going to be rested?
[Reply]
Anelka for the armband
[Reply]
I’m captaining Le Sulk, so let that be a warning…
Now, does anyone think it’s time to bring Bentley in for Petrov?
[Reply]
Both Bentley and Petrov are already in my team, and both are performing quite well, but given the next few fixtures, and recent form, Bentley has the edge
[Reply]
Don’t really wanna let go of Petrov, especially as all players I transfer out score. But I’m still nr.1 in my league and nr.2 has both. Mind you, I have Gerrard and he doesn’t…
[Reply]
hi, will ronaldo get rested???
i dont know wether to have him or gerrard captain this week!!!
any ideas?
[Reply]
well it is only wigan at home, not sure Gerrard will be needed and he hasn’t had a rest yet over the Christmas period yet. Man utd are playing catch up so perhaps Ronaldo will play.
As Mark said (or somebody on here, I cant remember), Berbatov wont be getting as many chances to score as he did against reading. Though if its set in stone that hes on his way out this month then I would imagine Ramos would want to play him whilst he can, and also to give Berbatov a chance to improve his advert to any clubs interested.
For the same reasons I think Anelka will start. Out of Ronaldo, berb and anelka im probably going to go for anelka as capt having scored 8/10 goals at home.

Can’t see any obvious transfers this week. My team is :Reina, Gordon, Brown, A O’Brien, Campbell, Ingimarsson, Bouma, Fabregas, Ronny, De Ridder, Nolan, Cahill, Santa Cruz, Tevez, Anelka.
I have 0.4 in the bank. Perhaps a replacement for bench boy De Ridder? Any thoughts?
[Reply]
will ronaldo play? ive a feelin heal be rested. i need a captain. good team selection mark mines nearly the same.
[Reply]
It’s looking more likely that Ronaldo will be rested considering Man U play Villa away in the FA Cup on Jan the 5th.
Liverpool have Luton Town.
Arsenal have Burnley.
So I think, unlike Ronaldo, Gerrard and Fabregas could definitely afford to play this week and be rested on the FA Cup games above.
Who knows…
[Reply]
@corey - Why not replace him with Larsson at Birmingham?? He seems to be a regular first team player and judging by match reports is more of an attacking midfielder who will get you points with assists and a few goals..Birmingham have 3 tough games coming up but its look like hes your 5th midfielder so he would probably sit on the bench those 3 weeks and brought out to play thereafter. Just an idea.

A polite ripple of applause is due to Mark for his outstanding work on this site this year - well done fella good luck for 08
[Reply]
James, Hart
Campbell, Yobo, Mellberg, A.O’brien, Pearce
Fabregas, Gerrard, Cahill, Petrov, Nolan
Berbatov, Torres, Santa Cruz
What team for this week and who for captain?
Thinking of brining in Bentley for Nolan, so taking out Yobo for maybe Ryan Taylor?
[Reply]
Thank you Mark. I’m hungover and only just remembered that I need to make some transfers. Your advice (and Nurofen Plus)have been invaluable.
[Reply]
Cahill not in the Everton team? Anyone know why not?
[Reply]
Has a slight knee injury apparently Stan. Nothing serious by the sound of thins, Moyes probably decided he needed a rest to be honest.
[Reply]
what a week for me
Anelka captain to play , will he play ??????
Bentley , Sub for cahill all to play tomorrow and i had mellberg and campbell and berbatov and fabregas today who all got points
But what i want ot know is , what are anelkas chances of playing ??????????????????????
[Reply]
Nothing like blowing your own trumpet Duddee! lol
I’m thinking of getting rid of Brown.. he didnt start today and Nevel is on way back. WHO SHOULD I BRING IN?? Vidic or maybe Lescott??
[Reply]
Howdi, class website!
Can anyone help me here?
I’m playing the FPL game.
I had Hart to play in nets for City & James on the bench.
The game has automatically subbed in James for Hart (who didn’t play today, he plays tomorrow).
Why doesn’t it wait until the end of the Gameweek?
Will it replace James for Hart ‘cos he was my first choice?
Slighty confused..
Thanks,
Rob

I’m guessing that was an error in their part and will be fixed sooner or later.
[Reply]
Maybe yeah..Oh the benefit of hindsight…
[Reply]
Hopefully. From my team Nolan and O’Brien have been transferred out for De Ridder and Ingimarsson who scored a combined total of 3. I fancy my Bolton duo to do better than that
[Reply]
Anyone else noticed Gerrard seems to have been auto subbed in FPL teams?
[Reply]
yeah i noticed bikey from reading has been subbed with cahill missing out .. nolan obviously hasn’t played yet.. and bikey was my last sub choice lol… ohh.. he conceded 2 and got a yellow lol..
[Reply]
Tell me about it….
They’ve transferred my captain Bentley out when he plays tomorrow!
I’m sure they will fix it but it’s especially annoying as they’ve kept Petrov in who also hasn’t played. If they were going to transfer someone out why did they have to do it to my captain?!
[Reply]
I mean ’subbed’ not ‘transferred’- now that would be taking the biscuit….

Fantasy NewsGameweek status
All matches have been completed and automatic substitutions have been processed.
[Reply]
Think its getting sorted now.
[Reply]
Already got 50 points this gameweek and fron only five players!
[Reply]
Anelka likely to play? Hes going to Chelsea within a few days.
[Reply]
Any ideas for making the most of tonights games- ive already got liverpool’s attacking clout with torres and gerrard as well as blackburn’s bentley and santa cruz but are there any other points to be had- ive got the money from sean wright-phillips plus 0.4. Nolan? Ireland?
[Reply]
“I’m thinking of getting rid of Brown.. he didnt start today and Nevel is on way back.”
Yeh I have Brown and was pissed of with that.
I think its because 5 yellow cards gets you a one match ban. He didn’t start coz he already had 4 yellow cards and only came on in the last 7 minutes to purposely tactically concede another yellow. Now he’ll miss the FA cup against Villa and come back with a clean sheet next prem match.
[Reply]
Actually I’m not sure..do premiership suspensions affect the FA Cup or is it only the Carling Cup?
[Reply]
They do but suspensions wonn’t take effect until 7 days after the booking. Meaning he’ll not miss the FA Cup game, but the next Premier League game.
[Reply]
Benny McCarthy is taking penalties for Blackburn again!! and he finish it with the goal! well done!
