Anelka is Chelsea’s for £15 million
It’s a done deal - Chelsea have sealed the signing of Nicolas Anelka for £15 million [source]. No news yet as to whether it’s been agreed in time for him to make a debut against Spurs tomorrow but it looks likely. That would make him a hot property for this weekend and certainly while Drogba is away at the African Cup of Nations.

Wright-Phillips in the scout picks??? what are you high?
[Reply]
Anelka is a great signing for Chelsea but i wouldn’t get to carried away as they have looked far from convincing for a few games now. Through the ANC into the mix and I wouldn’t be surprised if Tottenham caused an upset this weekend as Berbatov and Keane are on a good run of form at present.
[Reply]
Lol IA…not yet. I’m going on his form in midweek plus the fact that Spurs are without a central midfield tomorrow with Jenas, Huddlestone and Zokora missing. SWP looks likely to play in the central role he had against Everton.
The other factor behind his selection is I’m bored of suggesting the same names - as my rankings suggest Cahill, Gerrard etc are all good bets as normal but I try to select the odd curveball selection for those looking to make up some ground in their mini-leagues.

fair enough, only just read the carling cup report there now, sounds like he had a blinder.
will be interesting to see how anelka fairs at the bridge, hopefully my competitors will jump right in and he’ll turn out to be another ’shevchenko’
(although unlikely me thinks)

Excuse me if this is obvious, but where are the ‘rankings’? Is it the shortlists on the right of the screen?
Cheers,
Rob

The rankings are locked away in small compartment towards the back of Mark’s head. I should imagine.

My interest is on Howard (vs Man City) and O’Brien (vs Blackburn).
Howard is still okay, as Man City has a poor away form.
But for O’Brien, I don’t know what to say

Looking ahead a few weeks, who thinks Le sulk will keep his place in the starting line-up when Drog returns from ACN?
I’m probably gonna have to offload Le sulk or Torres in the next week or two, to free up some cash for elsewhere. So I wouldn’t want to get rid of Torres, then find that Le sulk turns into an expensive bench warmer at the end of the ACN.

In FPL you can’t play with 2 defenders, but what happens if one defender doesn’t play and your first sub is a midfielder?
Who should be left on the bench:
Gerrard, Fabregas, Bentley, M.Petrov, Cahill
[Reply]
Ollie - you have to have 3 defenders minimum so if one doesnt play theres no auto sub, you just get zip for him.
thats quite a midfield you got there, uuuuum. i’d leave out petrov given that he’s done FA in the last 2 and lescott looks more likely to score against everton than man city. However, there was talk of gerrard carrying a calf injury so not sure if he’ll start or not
I’ve noticed ronaldo missing from your midfield however, think you need to sort that out
having said that i wouldnt take any of my advice as so far this season my luck has been so bad my mates now walk 2 ft behind me in case i get struck by lightning
[Reply]
What would be safest bet? Distin or O’brien..
[Reply]
Distin - look at next week as well!
[Reply]
i have young and berba up forward, but im seriouly thinkin bout Adebayor. i have a good feelin bout a hatrick, i have o’brien aswell but he is defo not gona keep a clean sheet. hate to be nay sayin the dream team man. i like the idea behind swp though.
[Reply]
Just been on FPL and my team and Anelka looks great in his new Chelsea kit.
[Reply]
Can someone please help i have gerrard with liverpool having a good run ahead, do i keep him with a slight injury cloud?
Will he play this weekend? He is using up alot of my money!
Please help a poor aussie who has no info except this brilliant site.
[Reply]
Help needed! Mark, who would you plump for?
Got to get a cheap defender in for the next few weeks. I already have o’brien so i’m not exactly spoilt for choice.
Got two brackets of players to look at - the first is for a player who is sure to make some useful points in the medium term, the second group is a cheapo who is purely for points in the short term but whoever i choose MUST play this week (and do well!)
Group 1
-Paramot 4.3 (not so sure he’ll displace the iceman)
-Ball 4.4
-Bouma 4.5
-Ridgewell 4.5 (v Arsenal)
-Ingimarsson 4.2 (Reading are away!)
-Wheater 4.2 (play?)
-Spector 4.2 (play?)
-A.Ferdinand 4.4 (play?)
-Baines 4.4 (play?)
-Hibbert 4.3 (play?)
-Valente 4.3 (play?)
-Bramble 4.0
-Volz 4.1 (play?)
Group 2
-Duberry (injury doubt)
-Granqvist (play?)
-McShane 3.9
Can’t see anyone else worth having - maybe i’ve missed someone though.
Answers on a postcard…

Ingo, good to see a Aussie struggling. This time last year I was struggling in Aus after following England in the Ashes. Sorry to bring cricket into a football site guys. Back to Gerrard?? Thing is Ingo he is worth 11.1 and if you are looking at selling who do get? Guessing you might have Ronaldo or fabregas, if not look at swapping. Easy to do with Fabregas but you need another 1.9 for Ronaldo, or go for punt and swap him for bentley use the money to swap one of your forwards (taking a 4 point hit) for Anelka, make him captain and you are then laughin.
[Reply]
thanks nige!!!! Aussie Aussie Aussie LOL
[Reply]
You got inside info nige or you setting up the struggling Aussie??
[Reply]
know it all, So you dont agree with nige?
I was thinking about Bentley like nige said (free up money), and get in torres up forward.
[Reply]
No way. My great great grandad was a pickpocket and got sent to botany bay for a holiday, so Ingo could be family.
I have had Gerrard in/out/in/out this season and he has not done nothing for a few weeks. Why keep 11.1 on the bench??
[Reply]
just read your last inpet ingo and that seems like a good choice Torres. Thing about fantasy football is taking a risk and going with gut feeling. A couple of weeks ago i was just about to click on Torres but changed my mind at last minute to berbatov and he goes and gets 4 goals. Bentley is coming into form now after a slow start.
[Reply]
INGO, agree with nige regarding gerrard but not to sure about anelka captain, think he is trying to get you back for 5-0 thrashing. go with torres

Really? Thanks man. Your misuse of language to attempt to improve your “virtual status” is an illuminating example of your evidently shallow existence.
I’ll humblely enquire again;
Excuse me if this is obvious, but where are the ‘rankings’? Is it the shortlists on the right of the screen?
Cheers,

[Reply]
Hi Roberto - yep, the shortlists represent the my rankings for each position for the week’s fixtures. The picks are based on these but also utilise the ruling of only two players per club - that way I’m forced to “experiment” a little in my picks rather than go for an eleven comprised from 2-3 clubs.
[Reply]
Ok, nice one, thanks for the reply. Great site, has a very informal quality about it that all other sites I’ve come across fail to have. Even though I’m lurking mid-table in my league, hoping for a new year rise!

Way to overreact Roberto. Puffinboy wasn’t mocking you or being derogatory. Cheep up, man!
Glad I stuck with Anelka, but I’m still making Adebayor captain. Good luck to you all this afternoon.
[Reply]
Thank you Bret. I humbly apologise to one and all for attempting humour on a fantasy football site. From now on, I shall stick to “sahll i make fabrogas or ronldo captian? please help”.
Right, I’m off to resume my shallow existence…
[Reply]
ha, that last one was good

keep posting puffinboy

Lol puffin, don’t get me wrong having a laugh is spot on! But my god you must have some laughs if that’s the extent of your wit! It was almost childlike. :o)

As Neil Young once sang, I AM a child. Half puffin and half boy. Like Billy the Fish. Sort of.
