New Poll - Captain Ronaldo
I’d imagine the selection of a Captain in the Fantasy Premier League game is a pretty simple task right now. If you have Ronaldo, he’s your Captain. Maybe not though. If you’re lagging behind teams with the winking wizard then you’ll perhaps need to gamble on alternatives in an attempt to catch up. Alternatively, you could be really bold and not even have the fella in your side. Crazy talk.
There’s only way way to find out - I’ve added a new poll to canvas opinion on the situation, in the midst of the finest goalscoring run in fantasy football history. That “fact” is totally unconfirmed by the way, I just love hyperbole.

Reading will deploy their 6 man man marking spoiler at the w/e i reckon, they’ve pulled it off against united on the last 3 meetings very successfully. Although it’ll take 2-3 men to contain Ronny i might have to take a punt on Berbatov as captain just for this week..

I do the Telegraph game and have Adebayor & Tevez up front in a 4-4-2 formation, which I’m happy with. However FA Cup games count in the Telegraph game and with a “strong†Liverpool side likely to face Luton, it is worth sacrificing Adebayor or Tevez for Torres later tonight. Or will Torres be rested? I already have Gerrard. Liverpool do not play again till Monday against Villa, but then again I am running low on transfers…I would be gutted though if Torres plays and scores a hat trick?!
[Reply]
I think Torres will start on the bench or be rested completely. Of course I have no solid info, it’s just a hunch.
Ah, I miss those days of European and FA Cup games…

Points from my defence have totally dried up lately. I have 1.6m in the bank to freshen things up. My defence is currently:
Baines (4.4m)
Distin (5.6m)
Arbeloa (6.2m)
O’Brien (4.0m)
Hughes (3.9m)
Now that my “baines in for the ACN” gamble appears to have backfired, I guess he’s the obvious candidate for the chop. This would give me a budget of 6.0m.
Dunne or Hyppia would be possibles, but I’d prefer not to have 2 defenders from the same team (I have Hart in goal).
I could wait another week or two for Neville to return, but he’s already had too many false starts in his return to fitness.
Perhaps another Everton defender? Jagielka? or maybe P Neville?
Any other suggestions gratefully received.

Hi guys, what do u think which teams have favourable next 5 fixtures to come. Mark, what about highlighting these teams in your ‘forthcoming fixtures’ section.
[Reply]
Yes Alan- Berbatov looks a really strong shout..
But do I have the balls to take the captaincy from Ronaldo?
[Reply]
Havers you must have some start players in midfield and attack!!
You an me both.
Defence is tricky. Jagielka seems well beeded in even before Yobo’s departure so I’d get him for Baines. Keep O’brien for now.
Consider Kelly from Birmingham after next week. (4 million fpl) instaed of Hughes. Keep Distin they have 4 out of 6 matches at home - though some of those are tricky.
Dump Arbeloa and buy Vidic and if my sums are correct you may have 0.1 million left in the bank!!!
SORTED!!!!

I had a visitation last night- a visage appeared in my room, shrouded in light, whispering the ghostly words…
“Arsenal WILL pick up four clean sheets from their next five games. Gallas will score at least one. Sign Gallas or Senderos if money is tight”
And then it disappeared….
wooooOOOOOOoooooo

I had adebyor as captain last week..ronaldo was in my side…lost points cos of it. But i am sticking to the pecentage tactic i have berbatov this week he will be my captain surely he has more chance of scoring this week then ronaldo? Is this tactic wrong am i mad?
[Reply]
Alan, Gregg - agree on Berbatov. Sunderland have had a terrible run away from home whilst Spurs have scored 19 in the last five at home according to the stats. That appears to offer Berbatov up as a worthy Captain but like Gregg says, it takes balls to make that call. Very tough.
Farhan - Highlighting favourable fixtures is something I had planned. Just need to come up with a way or representing them and keeping them easy to read. Will add it to my list.
[Reply]
You could off course captain Berbatov only to see Keane score a hattrick…
[Reply]
Berby’s a flat-track bully too. When the going gets tough, he don’t like it up ‘em, but give him a Reading or a Fulham and he turns into Jimmy Greaves (ask yer dad)…
[Reply]
When I was a lad we used to wear our workboots from the pit as football boots and still get a hat-trick like young Jimmy did. I had Mr Greaves as my captain in the 1967 fantasy league run by blue peter all season and he got 100+by gameweek 6.
Mr Berbatov for captain mmmmmm. I will have another werthers original and get back to you
[Reply]
shouldn’t you be at work?
[Reply]
I am!!Our pit has now got internet access now, so I can keep fully informed of latest transfers while chipping at lumps of coal.
Should’nt you be at bingo.
Ronaldo or N’zogbia for captain this week

Ha ha ha ha
I like zis British sense of humour, yah?

Ok- who’s the comic genius?

Hey up chaps - first post on here…. I’m 50 points behind in my works FPL league and need to make up some serious ground…. I think risks are in order and I’m thinking of Berby as captain due to Reading’s suppress and stifle tactics…….
I need to make some changes….
James
Distin, Laursen, Lescott, Mellberg, McCartney
Cahill, Fabregas, Ronaldo(c), Bentley, Kapo
Berba, Santa, Forsell
What do you reckon chaps? I have a meagre 0.1 in the bank and so need to sell to buy better…
[Reply]
Not me, Greggster - I’ve already been cautioned for “attempting comedy in a built-up area”. I thought it was your good self…
[Reply]
It’s just you and me on here, puffinboy…
All the other posts are just me using different screen names.
(It wasn’t me- I’m very particular with my punctuation!)
[Reply]
I can manage to swap Mellberg out for Ferdinand if I change Santa for Ken Jones… That’s tempting
[Reply]
Maybe we should talk about fantasy football for a while? I was thinking of swapping Benjani for…for… for a Scalextric set and an Airfix Spitfire kit, Noel.
Bah, can’t seem to do it. But I tried.
[Reply]
@Mark:
I think it would be useful to have a section that presents your/our thoughts on week-to-week risks worth taking (such as the Capt issue discussed here). As most competitive teams hold many of the same players (Ronaldo, Torres, Tevez, etc) the only way to make up gropund is to grab a few points here and there whilst the leaders hunker down.
Just a thought.
@OldGregg: I dreamt that Fabregas was killed in a car crash last night (really). Happy to learn it ws just a dream, but was it a sign?

Puffinboy I will av benjani of you but i only have a wind up evel knieval to swap. Then again we had this discussion last night about his barn door sickness coming back, I will av your scalextric instead.
Is fabregas going to come good this weekend or should I swap him for mouse trap and Arteta or Ian Wrights son.
[Reply]
Necromancer,
That does sound a bit grim! Maybe we shuold lay off the cheese (or LSD) for a bit…
Still tapping away at that coal face, yer dad?

Old gregg: Yep, another 20 hours to go and 5 canaries left, proper northern graft but always have time to comment on important issues raised on this brilliant site.
What car was he driving thenecromancer?? bet it was one of them new audi A8’s??
[Reply]
@MPD (multiple personality disorder):
A trick question, eh? We all know that he was being driven, not driving. I believe it was a Mini with a Spanigh flag painted on top.
[Reply]
@Schmeichs
Don’t get yourself in the hole, Schmeichs.
We buy players depending on the coming fixtures, not coz of the last fixtures.
[Reply]
Is Wes Brown likely to play this weekend?…
[Reply]
I totally messed up this week sticking fabregas as captain instead of ronaldo in a bold attemt to catch up, instead I have plummeted like a very heavy rock type thing!!!!
Team usual suspects wiv *
GK James*, Green
DEF Laursen*, McCartney*, Hreidarson*, Melberg, Gallas*
MID Fabregas*, Gerrard*, Ronaldo*, Richardson*, Larsson
ATT Anelka*, Berbatov*, Forsell
Where am I going wrong??? the team seems like it has points in it but I am hopless at selecting captains!! Also am I wasting my money with Gerrard (sometimes dropped) and Fab (not had a decent week since september) who are very unpredicatble???
Any Ideas??? I need to seriously catch up as I am dropping points behind fast
[Reply]
I’m going to have to swallow my pride and buy Ronaldo. I’ll feel dirty, but it just has to be done.
[Reply]
@ Jim
That’s a decent looking team mate. If I was to be critical it would be a lack of “big four” defenders. You have Gallas but that’s it. You should look at MU and Chelski defenders. Preferably MU for me!
Keep an eye on this site for Captain advice. I had Fabregas as Capt last weekend but swiftly changed to Ronnie after reading a few comments on here.
[Reply]
Jim, if you had picked the right captain at weekend you would have had a good score or have you just put richardson in this week?? Don’t despair as I have anelka/berbatov and I am expecting good things this weekend. Fabregas, errrmmm, I am tempted to swap for Ian wrights son but i am giving him more time. Gerrard, again who do you swap him for?? maybe bentley as recently he always looks like he is going to do something with the ball as soon as he gets it, this will free up zillions to get a utd defender and i don’t mean newcastle utd. One thing that alarmed me and my pit pony is that you have 2 top form keepers, why, you only need 1. I swapped James last week for Alumunia(england no1)points to be had there?? But this is my point of view and not to be confused with anyone else’s. good luck jim
[Reply]
Hey Jim. Good side. Like Chris says, the lack of a United defender is perhaps the only major room for improvement. yer dad is also spot on with the keeper situation. Hart for James would free up some cash and with City at home in four of the next six, he’d be a decent signing. You don’t have City defender either - they’ve tough fixtures but at Eastland’s you’d always fancy them to be tight at tight at the back against most.
Hreidarsson is risk now that Pamarot is back - Harry could swap them this weekend. If he does you have 0.5 back there.
Anelka and Berbs - nothing wrong there. Gerrard? Tough one. Fixture-wise Liverpool look very favourable with three home games they should win in the next five. One thing about them conceding goals is that Gerrard has to often lead by example and Liverpool will need score 2+ to win games. I’d sit tight on him for another couple.
[Reply]
Well, he just got a hattrick and an assist against the mighty Luton Town!
[Reply]
Thats it with gerrard, not consistence. He either gets 2/3goals, 2 assists and saves a penatly for two weeks on the trot and then gets bugger all for next 3 weeks. Glad I got rid of him for Joey Barton
[Reply]
Don’t get me started on that barton fellow!! he goes on tv and tells gabby whatshername that he is doing things for charity and saving whales and then has a fight over a ronald toy.anyone care to admit they have recently sold him?
[Reply]
Speaking of players who piss me off, let’s chat about Mr. James.
Normally, I would not think of swapping out a goalkeeper scheduled to face Derby but, considering POR form last week, would it be worth the risk to sign a cheaper keeper and use the money to strengthen my midfield? Who else do you fancy keeping a clean sheet?
-TheNecromancer
[Reply]
Berbatov did not take part in the FA CUP tie last night.. and is linked with Man Utd as i’m sure you’re all aware. Perhaps in order to prove a point Ramos will play Keane and Bent up forward… Captain may be a bit extreme, but hei’s worth having on your team.
P.S: Ronaldo had a good week, but he’s due for either another red card, or a big injury (sorry all you manyoo supporters but us liverpool boys have faith!)

bring kenwyne in for bent even though bent is at home to everton?
