Villa wait on Barry scan

Lets cut through all that unhealthy Keegan euphoria with a lovely slice of mildly interesting injury news. Gareth Barry has apparently picked up a potentially nasty hip injury in training and could well face a spell on the sidelines.

The England man suffered a blow to the hip on Villa’s training grounds and, after a lengthy spell, was eventually carted off on the back of a buggy so he could undergo further treatment. That doesn’t sound good for Barry who has played every minute of every game this season for O’Neill’s side.

He was due to have a scan to assess the damage today although there’s no confirmed news on the extent of the injury as yet. We’ll expect that tomorrow but it seems very likely that he’s out of the clash with Liverpool at the weekend which seems likely to open the way for Gardner to move into the midfield after filling in for Mellberg at right-back last time out. Mellberg is not back in training although O’Neill confirmed today that he is “getting better” so he seems likely to return at Anfield.

  3. Mark,

great site man, been on here all year and am tops of the league I am in. Thinking of bringing in Sagna after this weekend for Campbell , what do you think? I am in the ESPN league here in the States, and I have everything else tied up (I think) for a good rest of the season…should i be concerned at all with bringing him in? (already have Gallas btw) Thanks for your help and the site m8!

  4. Brian: Are you an englishman living in New York??
General rule (it’s not my rule) is not having 2 defenders from same team, look at the top teams and mine and they stick with 1 from the same group of teams. Arsenal do have a favourable run but look at birmingham last week scoring. Tricky one this Brian but if you are top of your league then your doing good things already. I have campell and I don’t think you will see another performance like that against sunderland again from him, so I am keeping him, for now. What time is it there??
