Some Site Tweaks
Okay, you may have noticed some subtle tweaks to the site. I’ve made a couple of key changes to the front page that will hopefully tidy things up, give visitors a little more control over content and keep you all more up to date with the goings on that concern fantasy managers.
First of all at the top of the site you’ll notice a News panel containing a series of short snappy stories. The headlines provide links to news sources where you can read details of the story in full - I provide a short paragraph summarising the story so you can decide if you need to know more. This allows me to bring you a faster series of updates on injuries, suspensions and transfer news that you may find of interest.
I’ll be expanding this to include a summary page capturing all the archived news under section headers so you can quickly get the summaries and links you need to keep up with the news you need. I should have that in place by the end of the week.
Underneath the news panel the site remains as normal with all my regular articles - articles on key injuries, scout reports etc. However, it means that these articles can be used to expand on things of real note rather than just be used to tell you the latest on an injury - that’s what the news panel is for.
The second tweak I’ve made today allows visitors to customise the right-hand toolbar or, as I like to call it, the technical area. This was getting a little crowded but now you can choose the content you want to view by expanding and contracting the tables using the buttons added to the table headings. Cookies will remember what you’ve selected so it will open up with the expanded tables you choose each time. Effectively you can customise the right-hand bar how you want it.
If you don’t see the buttons in the menu that you don’t have javascript enabled. If that’s the case the right-hand menu will just appear as normal.
This will enable me to add further tools here and make some changes to the ones already in place. More on that another time.
There are more changes on the way. That will do for now though. Please let me know if you have any problems with the changes made by using the contact form.
Cheers.

Looks Great and works great too man, Good stuff!

Great stuff mark!

Nice work! - ya very helpful site just got better!
[Reply]
Just keeps getting better and better!
[Reply]
This site just gets better and better.
Only problem is, the site is so good I just don’t want to tell any of my mates about it in case they steal my competitive advantage!
Keep up the good work Mark.

Yes, I do like the collapsabiltiy of the right hand info - not so much scrolling needed. I’m still not crazy over the colour scheme, but I’m not one to nitpick. Are you going to keep the comments section or turn it into a full-on forum?
[Reply]
I liek how the comments section is right now. A forum would be way to messy and complicated navigate (especially if you’re a new member)
[Reply]
But if it was a forum you could edit your post. You’d be able to change “liek” to “like”, put a “to” in between “complicated navigate” and place a period at the end of your sentence.
Or the comments section could have user accounts I suppose.

A forum would be a great idea!!
I value everyones opinion on here and also like to help and answer questions. The whole idea of this is to help people in their leagues… this site really hits the mark with some BRILLIANT info but I know everyone wants info and questions answered and Mark can’t do it all… whereas others could!

I’m looking into the possibility of a forum - I’m trying out some possible solutions on the local server and weighing up the most suitable tool and the work that will be involved. It might be that I introduce this this season or wait for the wave of interest pre-season to launch one. It depends on how quickly I find a solution I’m happy with and can integrate with the site.

So what really happened between Adebayor and Bendtner and what are the chances of disciplinary action? Has this kind of thing happened in the past?
[Reply]
Great site. New look works a treat too.
Nice one brother!
[Reply]
What about just an EDIT option for now?
[Reply]
Splendid! No complaint as Mark will always make it better and better!

Milan Baros to be loaned to Portsmouth for six month.

Falling behind! Whats your advice?
Hart, M.Taylor
Lescott, Laursen, Belleti, Carragher, Wheater
Gerrard, Fabregas, Bentley, M.Petrov, Cahill
Adebayor, Benjani, M.Bent
0.5 in bank

Ollie my man.. it’s been said before but I’ll say it again:
Sign some Man U players! Your squad is good, and the only way to improve it would be Vidic, Ronaldo and mayeb Tevez…

@All:
The problem with a forum would be that our discussion would get fragmented over a dozen different subheadings, rather than be in one or two (albeit lengthy) places.
With due respect to the witty banter, in the end there is only one REAL topic of conversation: how to tweak our lineups for maximum points. Having to go from a keeper thread, to a defender thread, to a midfielder thread, etc. to get the information would not improve the site, IMHO.

To Adebeyor or To Not Adebeyor?
I plan to dump James. With the freed up money, if I drop Torres and sign a cheaper keeper, I can pick up Adebeyor. (Rooney & Tevez also up front).
The keeper would need to be one of the of the following:
C. Kirkland (WIG - G) @MID
C. Gordon (SUN - G) BIR
A. Niemi (FUL - G) @BOL
P. Robinson (TOT - G) @EVE
Alternatives would be to keep Torres and use the James funds to strengthen midfield and/or defense; or sign a good keeper (think Reina, Friedel, Cerny, Carson, not Hart, Almunia, VdS, etc).
I play the Yahoo! game so I am not limited in the number of transfers allowed.
Thanks,
TheN

@ TheN
Why not Hart?! He is the obvious choice the the minute!
[Reply]
Or Cerny
[Reply]
@Chris: too expensive. Believe it or not, in the Yahoo game Hart is the 4th costliest keeper, behind only VdS, Cech & the Kusz. Stange but true.
@ Ollie & Chris: so you think getting a better keeper and keeping Torres is better than a lesser keeper and Adebeyor?
Thanks,
TheN
[Reply]
Adebayor is better than Torres!
[Reply]
@Ollie: without a doubt.
The question is, which is a better combination:
a) Torres plus a better keeper (e.g., Cerny, Carson, Reina), or
b) Adebeyor plus a lesser keeper (e.g., Kirkland, Gordon, Niemi)
Cheers

I am only familiar with FPL game and based on that I would get rid of Torres. He is not good value for money at the mo, too expensive given his consistant return when compared with Adebayor. Although beware… Adebayor may get a suspension after his antics last night!!
[Reply]
adebayor plus a lesser keeper.

I like the comments the way they are too, done in the ‘blog’ style! I can quickly catch up on your super news stories, and then straight through to the current comments and the way they interweave through different subject matter. Then again, I’ve never tried a forum so might be a case of suck it and see!
[Reply]
Excellent tweaks, Mark.
[Reply]
Anyone care to give odds on Adebayor being suspended?
[Reply]
Belletti got booked tonight so thats his five - will he miss the cup game this weekend or the league match against Reading?
[Reply]
Shit I just bought Belletti! Hopefully he’ll miss cup game!!!!
Just saw Adebayors head butt on Sky… he’s gotta get a suspension for that!
[Reply]
The cup game is too soon, so he’ll be suspended for the Reading game. Gutted, as I signed him earlier this week in replacement for Alex (who will probably score now!)
I also have Adebayor, who might well get suspended, and Kitson, who seems to have agravated his knee… Just as my team was starting to do alright!
[Reply]
Dammit, and now Cahill too!!
[Reply]
Mark, “I learn at the masters feet!” I just started coming to this site and made some adjustments to my team. 122 points the first week! I am doing respectable at almost 1300 points for the season, but this week (last actually) I scored #6 out of 1,600,000. I owe it all to you! I won’t make a move until I have read everything you have to say. -Andywins
