New FPL Captains Poll
The FPL captains poll for gameweek 28 is now active in the left menu. Without prompting your votes, it will be interesting to see how close the Liverpool lot with their double gameweek, can get to Ronaldo this week.

Got to be Gerrard - he’s due a goal or two and he will play both matches.
Now I’ve bought Torres I’m worried he may miss one..

Torres hasn’t played less than 60 minutes in the last 14 gameweeks, with one exception, gameweek 26, when he was injured.

So, Alex did you swap Santa for Torres? - i just couldn’t resist it!

Nope. Haven’t done anything yet. But to be honest, I’m more likely to swap Adebayor for Torres.
Now also have to think about the Petrov situation…if I want someone like Lennon I have to have the funds available.
Also, Santa away v. Newcastle…I just can’t get rid of him now. Sure, I will be punished severely for that, but so be it.
Also a bit puzzled about Torres’ price not having gone up yet…it must be a sign. I should get him NOW.

Alex, I’m by no means an expert selector (although I’m chuffed that my recent acquistion Ashley Young is doing well in my team).
I got rid of Adebayor and got in Torres for this gameweek by the skin of my teeth (I now have no funds left!).
Crouch is the one who, in my opinion, unfairly suffers the worst from Rafa’s rotational obsessions, so Torres’s inclusion seems to good an opportunity to pass by.

Yeah, ‘think I’ll go that route, especially since Adebayor price has gone up, but Torres’ still hasn’t.
Only think is I now also need to get rid of Petrov and don’t know if Torres will be worth the 4 point hit. Though surely he will get at least 6 points in 2 matches?
All the others in my league have Adebayor, though, and I’m still top but only by 21 points. Any bad decision could be the end of that.

Need a cheap midfielder. Huddlestone or Piennar?
Help.

Huddlestone for now. Got 3 boni in his last game, has a double coming up and Pienaar came off injured yesterday, though it might not have been serious.

Hmm. My only problem with Huddlestone is that he has been playing in the middle of the defence for the last few games, and now that Tottenham have King and Woodgate, I’m not sure there’ll be a place for him as a midfielder (i.e. he was benched for the Carling Cup final).
I guess I’ll wait for the news on Piennar’s injury.

News on Pienaar appears to indicate he’ll be okay for the weekend…over to Moyes…
“Steven Pienaar has had a bit of a problem with his stomach, while Manu Fernandes I don’t know about yet.
“But Arteta has a pubis (groin) problem. I don’t think it’s that serious, but he’s been going to Spain to see someone and get treatment on it, but it might need a little more time.

Definately wait on Piennar, id go for him anyway. Mark says his injury isnt serious aswel. Huddelstone will be rotated and plays so deep, he is unlikey to pitch in with any goals\assists, unlike Piennar.

well i am going for gerard just out of spite at this stage plus i used my wildcard to get chelsea spurs and lfc players in and cesc and gallas out…I thought i was very clever last week i picked scharner as captain he scored and got a clean sheet. But by not picking ronaldo it STILL cost me 12 points….i also had noble on the bench and picked hart instead of howard in goal….I am a great manager tinkerman… I will pick gerard….I expect the sack soon as steve staunton ex irish manager ‘The gaffer’ saYSI DONT KNOW YOU TELL ME’…
I think i have aged 10 years or maybe 20 this fantasy football season!

Hey Mark!
Why don’t you create a league in the FPL game that all the readers of your website can join?
I could be fun to see how all the other posters are ranked even though you probably pretty much dictate most of the teams with you razorsharp scout picks.

actually we can still start now make our league in FPL for Mark’s website readers.
It would still be fun.
AND
Mark can choose if he also wants to join or be as always neutral as our advisor and source of all the magical news and scouts

Would Flamini for Petrov, for the next few games, be:
(a) world class managment?
(b) an amateur and ultimately foolish move?
(c) the best I can afford given the other transfers I want to make?

Reply by sam on February 26, 2008 8:19 pm:
i advise jenas and not flamini,
jenas has double gameweek soon and a good run of fixtures elsewhere to that

gerard!! sure torres may have some point but gereard is ,more likely to get bonus points and play more besides he could get points for clean sheets
[Reply]
Gerrard or Torres, it’s a tough one. I know Ronaldo is going to do well against Fulham and he just might out score both of them regardless of the double header!!
I think Torres will play both games because of the pressure Everton are putting on the reds for 4th place. Rafa knows that if Liverpool don’t make the CL then he’s guaranteed the sack, and he needs Torres to get the goals. Against Chelsea it proved that Crouch and Kuyt cannot be relied upon for finishing.
I also agree with Mark that the spaniard is likely to start both games, there’s too much at stake. Also Torres is in great form and recently came out saying he’d like to stay at Liverpool for life as long as they improve. Often if a striker is on a high mentally that carries on, just look at Adebayors recent run.
Think I’ll leave it a bit longer before I make my mind up though!

What odds that late next week, this discussion will centre on one topic “Why did I choose a (insert own expletive) Liverpool player ahead of Ronaldo???” Watch this space.
[Reply]
You’re probably very right PakHawk hence why I’m doing the usual ovine captain choice and sticking with Ronaldo, I got burnt last week mixing it up and choosing Gerrard ahead of him, royal stupid mistake that was!
On a side note my team line up for next gw looks like:
Hart
Wheater, Lescott, Jagielka
Bentley, Ron(C), Gerrard, Mascherano, Ljungberg
Torres, Adebayor
Subs: Cerny, Young, Laursen, A.Ferdinand
I’m happy enough with the line up other than wishing I could afford a new keeper, biggest headache so far is to go with Wheater at home to Reading ahead of Anton Ferdinand’s double gw against tough opposition. Opinions welcome.. Cheers

Jono,
I would be tempted to spread the risk a little and you are obviously tempted to have A.Ferdinand in your team, so why not go with just one Everton defender, probably Lescott, just in case Pompey nick one as they are quite capable away from home. At least you get two bites of the cherry with A. Ferdinand, although it is hard to see where the clean sheet is coming from.
Either way I would keep Wheater in the team as he could get a clean sheet, but may also get a goal or some bonus pts.
If you really don’t see West Ham keeping a clean sheet then run with what you’ve got, but if West Ham only let in one goal in each of the two games then Ferdinand still gets 4pts which is a fair return, giving the outside chance of a clean sheet or even a goal from a corner. But then, if he gets booked in both and they concede 2 plus in both, then he scores NIL.
Tough call!

Thanks Martin, definitely some food for thought I think he can stay a bench warmer I seriously can’t see where the clean sheets are for Anton so playing the full two 90s and only conceding the odd couple yeah the 4pts are a semi decent return. But Wheater on the bonuses are too good to miss, I’ve heard Huth might be making a comeback this weekend as well so I’m feeling a goal in there somewhere and clean sheet.. *fingers crossed*
I’ve made the mistake last two gws having Jagielka on the bench playing the other big names ahead of him who have only picked up 2pts a piece, I’m thinking (the recently transferred out!) R Ferdinand and also Laursen here.. I’ve lost out massively on those decision Jags’ form is too good to ignore, goal last week and back-to-back motm.
