Cahill KO Confirmed
Everton have today confirmed that Tim Cahill is out for the rest of the season with a broken metatarsal. Cahill suffered the injury against West Ham last weekend and was subbed after just 10-minutes.
“I think it’s obvious that he will be out for the rest of the season. It is disappointing but it happens” remarked Moyes.
The good news for Everton is that, aside from Cahill, Moyes will have a fully fit squad to choose from for the Merseyside Derby on Sunday. Cahill’s absence is likely to see Neville employed more often in a midfield role which could make an even better proposition in games where he is classed as a defender. Alternatively, it could see Moyes employ a 4-4-2 more often with Johnson benefiting.

Who shall I start: Pienaar, Jagielka or Ashley Young?

I think that everyone focusing on whether CRon will or won’t play is in danger of assuming that he’s automatic choice for captain if he does. Yes, he’s the best player in the league, but everyone has off days and he may well be due one.
Let’s not forget that there are two teams playing this evening. O’Neill will be desperate to stop the rot and avoid a repeat of the 4-1 defeat earlier in the season. Villa have only lost 3 away matches in the league all season, so this will be no push over.
In summary, CRon plays, and he’s certainly in my starting XI, but it’s Defoe for the armband.
