Wherever I Lay My Cap

Evening all. At the risk of turning the site into one of those fascinating diary blogs, this is just a quick post to offer reassurance that I am very much alive and now successfully installed in my new abode. I’m still surrounded by packing boxes, each with an hour of my time allocated to them for tomorrow. Today though, I had to get the Sky and Broadband up a running - it’s all about priorities.

Getting back to business - I’ll steal time to put some belated and probably abridged, weekend notes together at some point tomorrow. For now, I’ll do some spring cleaning around the site before the after effects of shifting 50 boxes up two flights gets the better of me.

Thanks for all those who kept the previous post ticking over and for your patience as always.

  1. Welcome back leader. Thats the beauty of this site is that we can all talk bollocks until you bring us back down to earth with order and words of wisdom.
I guess you have moved into a trendy apartment overlooking the City Ground.

  2. Cheers, Mark.
Good luck with the new digs.
We have done our best (lame as it may be) to keep ourselves entertained.
We even set a new high-water mark for the site; 237 posts! Quite a proud moment for Alex, Puffin, Yer dad, myself, et al.

    Get some sleep,

What’s even better: Nicky Shorey only got a couple of mentions. Progress…

Let’s not have such self-deprecation, chaps. We’ve done a magnificent job with no bollocks-talk whatsoever, just small nuggets of wisdom and entertainment for the masses.

Now, please, can everyone (except both you Mansfield fans out there) offer up a silent prayer that Chester City get the point they need to remain a league club tonight. The big game of the evening, obviously.

A glorious 0-0 with Stockport and league status is retained!!

    Did Utd win?

    [Reply]

Yep they sure did Martin. Up to your boys now to make it an all red final.
Rochdale AFC in the play offs as well. Could this mean a trip to the new wembley for yer dad?? Here’s hoping.

I think I’d rather us go out to Chelsea in the semis than lose the final to Man U.

  3. Mark, when you’ve finished unpacking can you have a quiet word with Fabregas. Six goals scored at the Emirates, and he only got 1 assist, and no goals himself.

Did anyone actually pick Adebayor over Fabregas as captain?

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

Not that it much matters, but the match was at Pride(less) Park.

As I had Fab in my XI I, too, find it odd that he came away with so few points.

  4. I am clueless to how Fabregas didn’t get massive points!! I am also clueless as to Berbatov’s form, and Defoe has gone into freefall since I snapped him up!

In a league so tight, with cold hard cash at stake, my rivals are making all the right transfers, leaving me to question my will to live!!

On the plus side Geremi has been brilliant since I got him, and been the difference a few weeks, cos no one else has him.

Nick - i feel your pain. My league lead now has dwindled from a comfortable 30-40 pts a few rounds ago down to a rueful 19. After having reached the lead with some bold mid-season gambles that paid off i have now resorted to such crimes of mediocrity as mirroring #2’s lineup in a feeble attempt to minimise the variance and keep my nose in front. Oh the shame. Trivia Tuesdays at the Clarendon.

same here. 8 point lead now a seven point deficit. plus now top 5 all back together again. i finished 5th outside the cash at christmas. i’m dreading my next transfer and compteplating 4 point hit as kirkland and green would not be your top GK picks this weekend!. last weekend i could smell the money….now i can just smell the s*** i’m sliding into!

  5. Glad to hear you’re getting sorted.
Amazing that the Broadband worked so quickly.
I’ve decided you must be an insomniac. To do this site must take so much time….

Anyway, glad Arsene got my txt at half time to tell him to get Adebayor of the bench.

Captain talk ahead of weekend. I’m going for Ronaldo - Man U are going to thump West Ham.
But then again…..Santa Cruz and Bentley must be tempting……………….

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

Yeah, how the hell did you get broadband so quickly? Obviously not a Sky BB subscriber.

Ronnie’s the safe bet for captain, and I need to play safe to keep 3rd in my league.

    [Reply]

  6. Yeah Ronnie or Berbatov this weekend I think. I think Ronaldo is due a big one!

    [Reply]

  7. Bentley or Santa are surely the better options for captaincy in the next gw, especially if chasing a lead.. anyone in agreement? There is always that worry that C.Ron will outscore everyone again though :(

    [Reply]

  8. Made my transfer already, berbatov out and santa in. Santa looked really sharp against pompei and took his goal well. Plus it leaves me a few quid in my pocket for the final transfer of the season.

Eh? When did Blackburn start playing non-league Italian teams?

Hey, I have licensing rights to that name (sort of).
Actually, consider it my gift to the happy couple.
And, because I genetically cannot resist a bad pun, I must say that Pompei will bury Blackburn with their smothering defense.

Just 218 morse posts to go to set a new record!

Rather than slink back and edit my foibled post, I will simply salute your wit, Puffin-one.
Alex may think your humor lame, but I’m sure she means that in the nicest way possible…

    -TheN

    Gravatar

His humor is why I proposed, actually. But I do feel compelled to point out when he’s not funny. It was just the once, honest.

    Gravatar

It’s as lame as often as it is not, I’m just trying to make up for being relatively useless at FF.

PS Thanks for the lease of the squirrel name.

    Gravatar

Yes, but I understand you are one hell of a squirrel kisser.
Something must be keeping Alex from joing yer dad in his coal mine bunker-o-luv…

    Gravatar

    Yes, yermum.

    Gravatar

We already established the true meaning of “baiser” yesterday…

    Gravatar

yes, yes, yes, but this is a family website so I try to leave the foul language to puffin/squirrel boy.

Now let’s git back to talkin’ ’bout soccckkker!

Swap Fab out for Santa this week?

    Ta,
    -TheN

    Gravatar

I guess squirrel kissing and coal mine bunker parties are just confusing to the kids, not necessarily traumatizing.

What game are you in? How can you swap out a midfielder for a forward? Or do you mean bench-wise?

    Gravatar

Like any good, blue blooded ‘merkin I play in the Yahoo league (aptly named, I should say).
    Salary cap but unlimited transfers.
The Fab for Santa exchange would mean that I switch from a 3-5-2 to a 3-4-3. The move would net me about 2 pesos to throw towards my epically pathetic defense.
Derby look so defeated (and I think Jewell is quality) that I *almost* feel guilty profiting from their misery.

    -TheN

    Gravatar

I’ve got the same, poor sods…coming up with all kinds of T - shirt slogans. But need to pay for the wedding somehow.

    Gravatar

Yer mum would have my cojones on a plate if I took anyone else up the bunker. 61 years together and not so much as a wandering eye, apart from Jet of old Gladiators fame.
Come on Man Utd and it is on poor man’s TV, so the masses can enjoy a feast of football.

    Gravatar

“… if I took anyone else up the bunker” :) Well, that’s a new one on me.

    Gravatar

Funny how it doesn’t seem to occur to anyone that getting it on in a bunker with a married grandfather ain’t exactly my ideal way to fill up some leisure time…

    Gravatar

    Like I said, Jet.

    Gravatar

Why did an image of prunes just appear in me mind’s eye?

  9. I hear Berbatov has been given permission to leave Spurs if someone will pay £25 million… that’ll explain his recent form

And Al, how did you get that animated picture of Grant? Are his legs on fire!

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

Methinks Al moonlights as a proctologist. Those cold-handed prostate exams can be quite an eyeopener, as evidence by Mr. Graham’s “animation.”

  10. Two games left, and want to use my wildcard now to go further ahead in fantasyfootball league, ahead by 28 now. Present team:
    Howard/Carson
    Shorey, Distin, Wheater, Laursen, Geremi
Reid, Ronaldo, Bullard, Fabregas, Johnson (man city)
    Defoe, Adebaynor, Crouch.

Any suggestion what to do with this team? Thinking of Blackburn players…. Cheers

  11. Welcome back to the Star Man! I believe your web site has made all the difference to my campaign as I don’t think my rivals are aware of it’s existence and I’m not about to tell thhem!

  12. Crikey some of you fellas talk some shite. Here’s some solid conjecture: I dont think Fabreags will play the last two games of the season if man u or chelsea win on saturday because of what Wenger said about resting players for Euros.

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

Agreed. Time to drop him from my XI.
Who do you fancy up front this weekend? Is Santa a no-brainer?

Strewth Luke. Fairdinkum on your Fab observation. He played really deep last night and if he does play at the weekend my guess is that he will play the same role and he was not taking the corners. Go on be a devil and buy Santa Cruz this weekend, I am.

    [Reply]

  13. Scholes: Score one for the old guys.

    [Reply]

  14. so united win. Will this see ronnie rested again against west ham?. even not, he played well tonight but seems to have lost that goal threat. Santa is looking a better option for the weekend

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

CL final is not until May 21st, so seems little chance of Ronnie resting with the PL championship in the balance.
With Rooooooney nicked and Tevez running like a maniac all match tonight, methinks he will remain a central part of ManUer’s scoring threat.
That said, I am dropping Fab, changing formation and bringing in Santa this week.
Who doesn’t like early Xmas presents?

  15. That grant look is a rare show of emotion indeed. I believe he may share a relative with Jabba the Hut somwhere in his DNA, but as yet I cannot prove it. The last time I had my hand up a rear end it was on a farm in Devon on my work experience with the local vet. Now I’m an accountant, says it all really.
