Scout 2.0 Is Live
As you can see, the new version of the site is live.
The are plenty of changes to the design but I’ve also backed this up with a content explosion that has seen updates to the injury table and the set-piece takers. There’s a new feature entitled the Season Ticker Tape to help with fixture analysis, plus I’ve released the first two updated guides for the season and rounded up the 2007-08 season with my review of the Forwards.
There are a few teething problems and a good few things that still need some updates, including the monthly picks. Keep ‘em peeled though, more changes and updates are coming.
Welcome to the new Scout.

Brilliant!

Holy Shorey!
Fantastic look and feel to the new site. 100% improvement on an already fantastic site. Well done Mark looks awesome. Best thing is no stupid ads which I’m sure must be a tempting proposition given the traffic this site must get now.
Only thing I don’t see is a Shorey forum.
[Reply]
Woah! It’s awesome. You have obviously put a huge amount of work into it and it shows. Very exciting.

Oh my godness i am absolutly blown away by the site and i live it!!! Great job! i am very impressed and excited to read up on a daily basis

Holy cow Mark! You just upped the ante again! Scout 2.0 looks clean and sharp. Simply brilliant, fantastic. I’m running out of superlatives to describe your efforts!
[Reply]
Simply Fantastic ! Very slick Indeed
[Reply]
Very streamlined and well-organised Mark - a great effort to create a platform for the new season. It’s a shame some of the same gibberish (mostly from me) will be maintained on the comments pages…
[Reply]
Very nice Mark. In retrospect it makes the previous incarnation of the site look like a squalid dank-hole.
So what are the chances of David James fronting a 4-5-1 formation in Portsmouth’s opening fixtures? Or can the “oops” next to his name be attributed to the problems with the monthly scout picks of which you speak?
[Reply]
Simply, AWESOME. It’s really great to see this site grow especially if you’re a regular visitor.

Particularly agree with gera, kirkland, baines and martins.
Would possibly add Robert Green (5.0), Ryan Taylor (4.5), Kevin Nolan (6.0) and although everyone says Ashton surely Bellamy is just as good value (6.5).
Thinking in general Fulham, West Ham and Wigan all represent the best value for money?
[Reply]
Brilliant. Cheers Mark, the season wouldn’t be the same with out the Scout…..

This nearly beats the time I came downstairs and there in front of the log fire on xmas morning was a Grifter and floodlights for my subuteo. Long live the Messiah and his teachings.

Great revamp Mark; I know it’s not easy to implement a subtle scheme like this.
The clean design of the right hand reference column is just right - no noisy decoration to get between me and your tips.
Keep it up.

Mark now the FPL season is open please have your team picks in by Friday, cheers
Good to see shorey on top of the popularity table.

Fixture table, GW3: no Man U v Fulham?
[Reply]
Reply by Mark on July 7, 2008 12:34 pm:
Postponed due to United’s involvement in the Super Cup on August 29. No date reschedule set as yet.
Another factor that takes Ronaldo out of the equation - quite handy given the circumstances. United’s back four also takes a hit - only 4 games in first month and 3 of those look tough.

Ah, of course.
I’m not sure if even this, as well as being crocked and playing for Real Madrid, will be enough to stop some of my mini-league opponents from picking him as captain for GW3.
Looks like I’ll be avoiding Man U players until at least gamesweek 6 then.

Thanks for all the feedback regarding the redesign. It certainly seems to have played a blinder with you all so thanks for all your positive comments. I set myself a tough schedule to get it done before the fantasy games kicked off but I made it - just.

G’Day to you all.
Long time reader, first time commentor. Firstly I’d like to congradulate Mark on the first class upgrade along with everyone else.
Secondly I wish to call upon the advice of the collective in reveiwing this rabble I call a team.
Howard,(Schwarzer)
Wheater,Clichy,O’brien A,(Scharner,Griffin)
Ballack,Gera,Lawrence,Fabregas(Modric)
Alves,Van Persie,Drogba
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

Drogba is a muppet.
I think your line up is pretty good. Some interesting picks (Gera, Lawrence) combined with some more established players (Ballack, RVP and Muppet). Keep an eye on Muppet’s transfer talk, and Ballack’s for that matter.

i personally think that Modric will start immediatly because he is a pretty good player and played well despite i am a die hard German

Any thoughts on the pick of Fulham midfielders? Dempsey at 5.5, Davies at 6.0 or Bullard at 6.5?
I currently have Dempsey as he is the cheapest but can free up some cash if need be. Davies was one of my fav low cost go-to guys last year but not sure whether it will continue… Who do you think is the bigger goal / assist threat?
I have a similar and related issue with Bolton defenders. i.e. if i keep Dempsey i can afford O’Brien or Cahill (at 4.5), but if i pick up Davies i will have to switch to the as yet unsubstantiated flavour of the month - Meite (4.0).
Bolton definitely have nice fixtures in the first few weeks so wanting to cash in.
(i am dyslexic when it comes to my Boltons and Fulhams - all that white…)

Also look at Chelski’s and Eveton’s start. They both look tasty also.

Definitely agree with regard to Everton. I currently have Howard, Lescott and the Yak in my lineup. Not so sure about Chelsea as their starting 11 is not as locked in yet as to who will play where etc, have to wait and see on that one.

I’ve gone for Tims Howard and Cahill at the moment. Cahill’s always been a little aussie goal machine, and seems to be a bit overlooked at the moment.
Kudos to FUBAR for going with a Bolton defender as first choice. I’m looking to do the same, but its a struggle to find a good backup incase they start horribly.
Nice work on the site Mark, the colour’s a definate improvement on brown….

Great changes Mark!
What do people think about this team:
Howard, Schwarzer
Clichy, Bosingwa, Cahill, Upson, Wheater
Gerrard, Fabregas, Young, Noble, De Ridder
Torres, Ashton, Moore
Who should I change?
[Reply]
dont think moore will play much if phillips stays do you reckon bosingwa will play many games as scolari likes ferraria and brazillian connection with belleti
[Reply]
Reply by Bedknobs and Boomsticks on July 7, 2008 6:23 pm:
Bosingwa started ahead of Ferraria in the Euros, so he should be first choice.

Think Phillips is going to Birmingham? and I cant afford a better Chelsea defender.
[Reply]
what about bosingwa? 6.0
[Reply]
hi guys, been reading this site for a while but this is my first comment. what do you think about pienaar? only 5.5 and he had some really good spells last season when he was injury free and not away on ACN.
dean ashton also looks to be a bargain it he can stay fit. any other good tips for 2:nd keeper besides schwarzer? also anderson of united might turn out to be a true bargain at 6.0.
[Reply]
great Changes, Mark. Squeaky clean and smooth - seems to work quicker as well.
Anyone out there. Who is the
Best
4 £million Defender ?
4.5 £million Midfielder ?
5 £million forward ?
Someone who plays every week and will deliver a few extras here and there.
Thx

All depending if they play:
1st Meite, 2nd Hunt, 3rd McShane
1st Little, 2nd De Ridder, 3rd McCann
1st Harewood, 2nd Johnson(fulham), 3rd Moore

Ollie, i think some people are omitting Vogel (BLA) from their bargain list. He came in late last season but took the DM role and made it his there. He’s basically a more mobile version of Tugay. I don’t think BLA have another decent DM and i expect him to play. He’s got historic quality (AC Milan, Betis) and at 4.5m could be a bargain.

Figueroa for wigan looks like a bargain if he plays. only got his first start against united last season but he looked pretty solid at the back and good going forward.
[Reply]
How’s about Mullins for West Ham (is he first choice or is Parker going to displace him?) or any of the cheaper Hull and Stoke midfielders? I always look at that kind of player as providing a guarantied 2pts if you really need them to come off the bench, rather than someone like De Ridder who might get an assist but equally might not even play.
[Reply]
Thanks guys. The Key is will they play?
I have Moore (WBA) and Little (Portsmouth)
Does any one know which Stoke or Hull defenders paly every week and cost £4miilion?
I only found this site halfway through last season. And at the start of last season I picked 3 subs who rarely palyed and were totally useless!
[Reply]
Mark just some feedback on the fixture grid on the RH column, the colour key is quite hard to read. For example on my TFT it’s impossible to tell the difference between difficult and decent home games, no matter how much I change the contrast.
[Reply]
Mark, i know it’s not cool to criticise especially considering the top-notch job you’ve done with the updated site, but unfortunately in the Scout Picks and the ‘Guide to Team Selection’ you have spelt Stoke’s Liam Lawrence as ‘Liam Laurence’.

I was wondering about some of my lineup spots.
I could have Tevez and Young or Torres and a Midfielder priced at 6.5 or less. What pair should i choose and if Torres then what Midfielder should i get?
All help is appreciated and a huge help to gain advantages over my friends.
By the way, great website Mark.
[Reply]
id say torres and bullard.
they should both rack up some decent points over the course of the season. Teves may not be a regular starter and if Berbatov comes aswell then it wont look good for him.
