Bruce Goes Back For Kapo

Wigan have agreed a deal for Brimingham’s Olvier Kapo that will see him reunited with Steve Bruce. A fee of £3.5 million is apparently involved, with the French midfielder believed to be going through a medical at the JJB today.

Bruce is a keen admirer of the player having signed him for Birmingham from Juventus last season. Kapo went on to play 23 times in the Premiership for Birmingham, notching 5 goals along the way. He was troubled by hamstring and knee injuries last season but, if he can be luckier this season, he could figure in 30+ for Wigan and offer some decent fantasy returns.

Kapo is a left-footed player, so presumably Bruce will have him earmarked for a wide role providing an alternative to Koumas. If that is the case it will seriously hamper any opportunities for Ryan Taylor, classed as a defender across the fantasy games, to play in a more advanced left midfield role. Alternatively Bruce could look to use Kapo in the hole behind the front man in support of Heskey or King. Either way, Kapo looks good for 5+ goals, and similar assist returns as well as involvement at set-pieces.

Kapo becomes the second signing Bruce has made from his former club following the arrival of Daniel De Ridder - someone who has attracted some interest from FPL managers given his modest 4.5 initial valuation. De Ridder’s chances of getting regular starts on the right or left wing are unknown but Kapo would certainly appear to have more potential for regular starts. We can only wait now to see how he is valued by the various fantasy games.

Wigan begin their pre-season with a tour in Austria which sees them kick-off against FC St Veit on Saturday.

  1. If Kapo comes in at the 4.5m mark he’s an easy choice for my team as a sub. He should get plenty of games under Bruce who knows the quality he has, and he scored some screamers for Birmingham last season.

  2. More likely he’ll be valued at 5m, given his attacking qualities.
