Hammers Close Behrami Deal
West Ham have completed the signing of Swiss international right-back Valon Behrami. The full-back has agreed terms on a £5 million move from Lazio.
Dubbed the “Swiss David Beckham”, much to his annoyance, the 23-year-old was highly thought of in Italy. He has played the last 5 seasons in Italian football for Genoa and Verona in Serie B and Lazio in Serie A. He has notched 123 appearances in his career, firing 7 goals.
A versatile player, Behrami can be employed in a midfield role, on either flank but with the likes of Faubert and Dyer vying for such positions, it appears that he will challenge club skipper Lucas Neill for the right-back spot.
Behrami’s is a pacey player who is well capable of bombing forward, whilst having enough creative flair and trickery to prompt such attacks plus a decent enough shot to finish them. With West Ham’s fixtures looking exceptionally kind over the first 6-8 weeks, he could certainly be worth some serious consideration if classed as a defender. Let’s see how the games price him up.

If he’s 5.5m or less and a defender he’s going straight in my team. He really is a class act and a great signing for West Ham. I already have Upson so i’ll just get Behrami instead of him.

Yep Behrami will go straight into my top 10 monthly picks if he’s classed as a defender and he’s likely to get in my initial FPL 15. Like you say, right now Upson looks the best bet with their kind fixtures but Behrami would offer an even better option.

Is he still worth buying, as he is a 5.5 midfielder in FPL?

Ouch. Probably not. It depends on where he’s played. If he is deployed in midfield then, with West Ham’s fixtures, he’s worth a look but that’s a big “if” considering they already have Faubert and Dyer returning. My bet is that he’ll be at right-back with Neill moved to centre-back.

At 5.0m, Parker looks like a cheaper and better option if you want to invest in the West Ham midfield for their “easy” start to the season.
