Chelsea Wait On Bosingwa Scan
Chelsea’s Jose Bosingwa is due to have a scan later today after sustaining a muscle injury in last night’s friendly victory over Guangzhou Pharmaceutical.
The full-back pulled up after 19 minutes of the 4-0 win, complaining of a thigh injury. It was thought that Chelsea had withdrawn their new signing as a precautionary measure but it was later revealed he would undergo a scan to determine the extent of the injury.
Bosingwa seems set to make the Chelsea right-back spot his own and is well fancied in fantasy terms going into the season. We await news from Stamford Bridge.

Hoping to get off to a flying start this year. My team currently:
Green (Duke)
Lescott, Clichy, Cahill, Carvalho, (Richards)
Fabregas (C), Young, Downing, Taylor, Ballack
Yakubu, (Ashton), (Fagan)
This leaves me with £0.5m in the bank. Any suggestions on how I could improve on this team would be gratefully recieved?

i’d swap green for howard.
any thoughts on gerrard or rooney, seem only to be able to afford one:-
reina, (schwarzer)
cahill, lescott, bosingwa (inj. permitting), (huth) (figueroa),
fab, a.young, m.taylor, gerrard, (geovanni),
van persie, yak, zamora

Yeah, did consider Howard, but I prefer not to play two defenders from the same team.
As far as the Gerrard/Rooney question is concerned, I’d say that both are overpriced. If I absolutely had to have either in my team I’d opt for Gerrard on the strength of Livs opening fixtures vs MUs. Also, I prefer to spend more of my budget on defence & midfield. Points from strikers are too inconsistent.

many thanks for your comments Phil.
I think your right about inconsistent strikers, i’ve just got a feeling this year with Wayne. However, last year i spent a lot of cash on 5 mids (gerrard, fab, petro, bentley, ronaldo)which worked really well for me (probably down to CRon). Do you think Cavalho will play every game?

Hoping the Portugese connection with Big Phil will get him regular starts. Also liked the attacking license he was given in the euros under Big Phil. But yeah, Terry & Alex do give worrying scope for rotation.

Agree that Rooney is due for a great year. The absence of CRon makes it all the more probable.

Guys- what are you basing this Rooney feeling on?
Still looks overpriced to me.

With Ronaldo absent for a good while then Rooney should be assured of being protected from rotation. He’ll also be more of an FPL bonus magnet without Ronaldo to grab them. As we all know though, he’s a very streaky goalscorer. Bonus might well be enough to plug the gaps though.

True, but equally Tevez could step up more and is 1m cheaper?
And how about Nani in the meantime? HIs stats are actually pretty good for the appearances he put in….

Yeah Nani does produce when he starts. Be wary though, he’s suspended for the first two games after his red at the end of last season.

This would all point to Tevez being a decent early shot. Man U may have tough opening fixtures but they have to still score goals… surely?

They should certainly score, the question is how many. In the first five they miss one game due to the Super Cup and visit Pompey, Liverpool and Chelsea in three of the other four. That’s two, maybe even three, of the toughest defences they will come up against in the entire season - away from home.
If there is going to be a batch of five games where you don’t fancy United players, it looks, on paper at least, to be this first five.

My feeling is nothing to do with price. I not am saying he is good value, just that i get a feeling that he is primed for his best year yet.

I’ve always found that defences are stronger early on and forwards (or the forwards you expect) don’t start off with a bang. Your defence is very weak, is that 2 Stoke defenders?? Its risky have 2 defensive players from 1 team let alone 2 from a potential relegation team. Deco is a high value risk, maybe his inclusion could be reconsidered?

I think you are right.. Forwards are very hit and miss early on. My team currently has 8 of the 11 starters from the big 4 teams including all the defense and the goalkeeper. It seems you get way more points per million from big 4 defenders rather than attackers.
