Robinho - No Better Than Kalou

That’s according to the folk at Fantasy League who have introduced Man City’s new record-breaking signing as a forward priced at 6.7 million - the same as the Chelsea man.

Elsewhere Robinho has entered the Telegraph player list as a forward priced at 6.3 million, the same price as Anelka and a little under Santa Cruz and Robbie Keane.

The Fantasy Premier League meanwhile have yet to take the plunge at the time of writing. I like to picture a long, sweaty meeting with much coffee and doughnuts consumed while they viciously argue the merits of making him a top priced midfielder in a Twelve Angry Men scenario. In truth they probably just can’t be asked to update their database.

  1. i think he will go in at a striker at 10 million , a little overpriced but may invite a few people to have a gamble on him.

  2. Well torres was brought for 24m, and he went in at 10.5, so i think robinho will be more like 11…

    [Reply]

yeh but it doesnt just go on the price he was bought at.

    [Reply]

  3. I think he will be a 9 million striker.

    [Reply]

  4. I’m think Pavlyuchenko will be 8.5 and Robinho 10, both strikers. Not overly confident though, the FPL don’t always do the obvious thing!

If Chavy Pavy is 8.5 I may well get involved. Very interested to see how he copes in the PL.

Robinho at 10 mil, no way. Not sure he’ll be that great a scorer for FPL anyway.

  5. I am not usually one to detail my team but have some question marks on the merits of the following players, and any advice / opinion would be appreciated in each of the following positions.

    Torres versus Berbatov
    Bullard versus SWP
    Alves versus Zaki

To the left are my current picks but money would enable me to make the picks on the right. Would these be better options? What do people think?

    [Reply]

    umm…dificult one.

    1. Obviously Torres needs to go but personally I think its worth waiting on Berb before getting him in (fixtures and settling in, plus man u’s average form at present). Another option may be better.
    2. Fulham have got some handy fixtures coming up, are you sure its a good time to transfer him out? + with Robinho in its still a bit un clear where SWP will play (and hence how many points he’ll get)..
    3. 50/50 - worth doing if you need to free up the funds for elsewhere I suppose.

Not sure I’ve been any help but thems my thoughts..

Thanks Bomber. Think I will take your advice on holding onto Bullard. We do need to see how the whole formation pans out at City. Truth is I fancy both Zaki and Alves to do well this season but just trying to weigh up in my mind who will be of more value if I have to choose just one.

    [Reply]

  6. The Alves versus Zaki debate is particularly important

    [Reply]

Id say on current form i would have Zaki because he will free up funds for more people and on the current form he looks an excellent low priced option

  7. Robinho in at ESPN Fantasy at 9.5, same as Berba, more than RVP, Keane, and Roque. Pavlychenko in at 7.5, same as Benjani, Defoe, Yak, Ashton, etc…

What are your thoughts? I think Robinho is waaaay overpriced, while Pav looks enticing if he is the new starter, will he replace Bent or run up front with him? Thanks guys!

    [Reply]

  8. I think Robinho is a massive gamble. Adapting to a totally different style of football and climate really. Not one to be jumped on straight away.

I think Pavlyuchenko has more of a chance at adapting very quickly, but he’s being thrown into a Spurs team that already isn’t performing at 100%. Maybe all they need is some more options up front, but that’s yet to be seen. I’ll be watching him with intent, but largely ignoring Robinho.

    Hello my fiery portugese friend.

On this I am in 100% agreement. Pavy does have a very good scoring record behind him, it’s just whether he can bring into the premiership.

I’ve got a hunch that now the berbatov saga has been settled Tottenham will get a lot better.

    [Reply]

  9. Maureenho, I have the same feelings on Robinho, stay away.

But will Pavlychenko replace Bent or will Tot run a 4-4-2 with Bent and Pav?

    [Reply]

  10. 4-4-2 in my opinion. It seems so far that it’s just not happening up front, and I feel the only reason they’ve been playing 1 up front is Ramos’ simply not wanting to start Berbatov. Pavlyuchenko up front will add that much needed dimension. He’s a great provider as well as scorer, hard working to boot. I wouldn’t be surprised if his arrival has a serious impact on Darren Bent’s scoring potential. How long it’s going to take to click is another matter though.

    [Reply]

  11. Is Bullard worth taking in? He was the buzz player late last season

    [Reply]

  12. Bullard is the player that destroyed our league last season as the leader had him and knew when to use him to devastating effects!!!

    [Reply]

  13. Robinho, great potential, but too risky to take a chance on without seeing how he fits in and adapts.. and also, for all the bonus points he may pick up, I can never however see him being the prolific goalscorer that some of the other strikers in the prem can be.

I don’t think he should be valued too highly just yet, although I certainly expect him to be valued higher than kalou at least lol

    [Reply]

  14. Robinho is a good player - skills, technique etc.
However Berbatov is guaranteed to be the man of the season! Ronaldo was yesteryear! Berbatov will get more goals and bonus points for skills others players could only dream of doing. And once you buy him now for a cheap price watch his price RISE!!! I can’t believe he is about 4.5 lower than greedy Ronaldo who is overpriced for what he might offer now we have a new star. He better pass the ball to Berbatov or there could be violence!!! Man Utd only have about another 2 seasons until Man City take over……. Enjoy while you can!!!
Watch from the beginning heh heh. Ronaldo will NOT be coming into my team!!!

    1) a bot
    2) someone taking the piss
    3) about 8 yrs old
    4) a cartoon character
    5) not all the tools are in the shed…

Maybe he’s God. We’ll know for sure if Bullard gets hit by lightning next weekend.

    [Reply]

  16. I reckon Robinho will be at 10 and the Pavster will come in at 8.5.

    [Reply]

  17. Maybe - New Tottenham Striker will be around 9.0
    Robinho is rated around 8.5
The board in FPL are still discussing about this but they do read the comments here so keep it going. The reason why Berbatov moved to 9.3 is that there was a large surge of people buying him. He may move to 9.4 by Sunday/Monday as the surge is still continuing as word goes around.
Fran is indeed a bot with insider information to help you win your personal league…. this is why the bot told everyone to buy Berbatov!!! HEHE HEHE LOL

“The reason why Berbatov moved to 9.3 is that there was a large surge of people buying him”

now are you sure? That doesn’t sound that likely to me, I would have thought there would be another reason why a player’s price would rise?

    P.S. Dancinator I vote for a combination of 3 and 5.

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

What do you mean it doesn’t sound likely? 37,000 people have transferred him in at the time of writing, only Zaki and Ian Wright’s son are more popular.

Ok Guy, i think a little slack is required seeing as your replied at 5.52am (what on earth where you doing on this site at that time? hopefully not tinkering with your Waynecard…) but i’m pretty sure will’s response can be labelled as “sarcasm”. Even though that doesn’t really work in textual format.

I think will was being sarcastic because Fran stated the bloomin obvious :)

Fran do you work for FPL or do you spy on their homes to know what they read and they don’t read?

  21. Robinho’s in at 9.0 on Fantasy Premier League.
    And as a striker.

Not bad, as I was expecting him to be about 10 / 10.5.

I still think he’s a little bit risky though and would predict that Wright-Philips may well end up scoring more points. Also Berbatov will almost certainly get more points as an alternative and similarly priced front man. Still, an interesting alternative as a striker and when Man City have a good run of fixtures he could become quite tempting…

    [Reply]

  22. Robinho will fail spectacularly! 1 in 4 goals for Madrid is not a good return and I think he will have fewer goal scoring opportunities here. I think he was subbed 19 times last season too.

A big risk I reckon. Fellaini is my pick of the new players at 6.5 million.

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

dunno, I think maybe at Madrid he was rotated quite a bit which prevented him from getting into his flow. Still, its a low return considering how many goals Real Madrid (probably) scored each game. But I’d say Berbatov seems a much better option at a similar-ish price

    thoughts?

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

I got Berbatov straight in as I wanted to get him before his price went up too much. He’s got a tough next couple of games, but he scores goals and gets the assists to go with them. He may have more competition in the FPL points stake (Rooney, Tevez, Ronaldo), but Man U score LOTS of goals so he’s going to get points.

All in my humble opinion and of course; may be proven completely wrong.

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

Lies, damn lies and statistics Taken. Last season he scored 11 goals (+ 14 assists!) which almost doubled his goals from the 2 previous seasons. He was also shoved out on the wing for R Madrid.

Personally i think the pick of the new signings is Riera - £7m for an international top-4 player who’s likely to start!

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

His record for Real Madrid was 1 in 4 FACT. His return was better last season, but he took a long time to settle. He was substituted for Real Madrid 19 times last season FACT. So not one lie at all Phil…

Riera is not a guaranteed regular starter.

Tim Vickery’s blog (BBC) is a good read:

  23. “I like to picture a long, sweaty meeting with much coffee and doughnuts consumed while they viciously argue the merits of making him a top priced midfielder in a Twelve Angry Men scenario.”

The mental image I have is more like Frank Skinner and David Baddiel sitting on a sofa somewhere!

    [Reply]

  24. Fran is not a real person. Cant be… thats my conclusion. The comments are so ridiculous.

Riera is the pick of the bunch you say? Very much disagree. Most players who sign for Liverpool tend not to live up to expectations. Be it the way they play or adapting or what but it always happens. Torres is the exception.

I will sit back on the Berbatov move for the minute. Lets see how he adapts and how he is used. Keane hasn’ t adapted at all and he was great with berba beside him. but as i said before the season, i think berbatov made him look better than he is. Ill give berbatov until after the two big games.

As for Robinho, i am more interested in how it will impact swp. looking forward to the next match of the day to see. I can see some defender smashing him in the tackle in a ‘welcome to the premiership’. And he is v light. plus his first game is against chelsea whose time he wasted. JT gonna loaf him maybe? Can see Robinho getting a bashing in some game

    [Reply]

  25. Transferred in Robinho and Bebatov. Wanted to transfer out Gutierrez, ideally for Fab, but have only 7.3 mil left. Was thinking of Fellaini? or Riera. However, I am unsure if these players will always start!? So will have to stick Gut for the the time being!

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

Chezba, why are you looking at getting rid of Gutierrez?! NEW’s next game is against HUL! I’m looking at bringing him in for that game!

Dancinator, i’m expecting Riera to add the width to the Liverpool team that they’re currently craving. As he’s the only foreign new signing with previous Prem experience he shouldn’t take long to adjust. He’s also cheap (for top4) and more-or-less guaranteed a starting spot (as LIV have no other proper LW!)

You didn’t say who you think is a better FF prospect??

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

Yep u’re right. Captain material for hull or shall I stick to Berb/Lampard?

    [Reply]

  26. Fellaini will undoubtedly be a starter. Not sure how many points he has in him though. Quite a dirty player but could be a danger from Arteta’s set pieces.

    [Reply]

  27. What do you think Zaki for Bent?

Or is it worth waiting, saving the transfer (telegraph limited to 30 for season) and seeing if the new tot striker helps his scoring?

    [Reply]

  28. valencia, wheater, zaki, looks like plenty of points there;players with drive.

    [Reply]

  29. Everton should win their next match?! Why isn’t anyone talking about Lescott as he is overdue a goal!

  30. ‘The Gut’ is Steve Guttenberg- of Police academy fame. NEVER call anyone else ‘the Gut’. On a footballing front, i think you should hang onto him.

    [Reply]

  31. guthrie & gutierrez could get a few pts gameweek 4 the 2 guts!what do you think?

    [Reply]

  32. Phil Pino out of the three, Robinho, Berbatov and Riera I reckon Berbatov WILL be the best buy. But I would not transfer him yet purely because I want to see how he fits it. I think he will fit in excellently but better to be safe and they also have Chelsea and Pool coming up so I am predicting low scoring games but I will get to see how he is being played and how he is looking in the team.

The reason why I think he will be the best of the three is mainly because he has the arrogance to not let the transfer, fans, or anything bother him it appears. And he has proved himself in the Premiership already.

Almost has the hallmarks of the Cantona purchase. Altho Erics arrogance would never be matched, Berbatov has that same feel. Only thing is Berb appears to love United too much so I hope he doesnt put too much pressure on himself. 2/3 games will let me see how comfortable he is looking.

Still not sure bout the other two. Robinho = class but might not like the rough and tumble!!! And Riera… I know little of him. Benitez is no Wenger when it comes to signings and when I dont knwo them too well i have doubts. If they were looking to have width, why is Kuyt playing instead of Pennant?? He sold Riise too. I think Benitez often buys good/decent players eg Pennant, Keane, Kuyt and maybe now Riera, but he doesn’ t play them where or how they are most effective

  33. New player’s NTI

Robinho: 2506 and climbing VERY quickly
    Pavlyuchenko: 342
    Riera: 54
    Fellaini: 60
    Xisco: 15

Kind of puts things into perspective as to who’s captured the eye. Early days yet of course, but expect the trend to follow.

    [Reply]

  34. Berbatov is fully fit and ready to go….. he has already scored two goals on recent international duty without playing (much) for Spurs!

  35. Robinho at 9.0 as a FW on FPL
