Van Persie Fit But Santa Sits Out
Robin Van Persie allayed fears over his ankle injury by starting for the Dutch in their 2-1 defeat to Australia in Saturday’s friendly.
Van Persie was replaced at half-time but looks a likely starter for the World Cup Qualifier against Macedonia on Wednesday. He would therefore seem set to be in contention for Arsenal’s trip to Blackburn on Saturday.
Roque Santa Cruz might well be missing from that game however. He is currently nursing an Achilles injury sustained against West Ham last weekend and sat out Paraguay’s World Cup Qualifier with Argentina on Saturday.
Earlier last week the Blackburn striker remarked that he wouldn’t play in that game if he didn’t feel 100%.
“I am not fully fit yet, but the pain is less each day. We’ll see how it reacts. If I’m not fine, I’ll keep training to play against Venezuela.”
That game comes on Tuesday and if the Rovers man misses that one, he will be a major doubt for Rovers going into the clash with the Gunners.

Good good. Need him to play as I think I’ll be sticking Berbatov on the bench with all this paper talk of him being unfit. Will wait obviously till the managers press conference on Friday.
[Reply]
Akers where do you get your information from the managers press conference from?
[Reply]
Reply by Akers on September 8, 2008 9:48 am:
Well, for United, it’s on MUTV live, but Sky Sports News show them as they get them all day Friday.
Also, their NewsNow feed should have articles regarding the press conference.
These press conferences discuss injuries, and in United’s case, Berbatov. If Berbatov isn’t fit to play, then SAF will say so. Obviously he may still bench him if he declares him fit, but it gives you an idea.

Hi guy
here is one question
if choose three best forward in Game week 4(consider game fixture)?
which three forward would you choose? THX
my choice
zaki,yakubu,owen any suggestion??
[Reply]
Zaki And Yak are good choices but i reckon defoe is next best. having said that I have RVP.
[Reply]
defoe game fixture isn’t good enough, right?
[Reply]
only time id be worried bout Defoe producing a bit is against a top 4 side…Boro at home? Neva!
[Reply]
Bentley down again in value. I was hoping he wouldn’t go down until Wednesday and then he might produce a decent England performance. Nevermind, I’ve just got to stick it out with him now.

Reply by JimNastics on September 8, 2008 1:21 pm:
I’m well pleased Bentley has come down to 7.8, I’m sure he is going to have a fantastic 4 or 5 gameweeks from now… I’m bringing him in for Downing

i have a striker dilemma as there are quite a few that i like the look of. currently have zaki, rvp and berba but really like the look of pavlyuchenko, alves and bellamy. definitely keeping zaki but dont know who to choose frpm the rest. i think alves could be someone to have all season
any thoughts?

Don’t be sucked in by transfer addiction Dan. Your current strikers are fine. I wouldn’t change any of them until i see how Berba & Pav get on, and if Bellamy gets back injury-free. Patience mon amie, patience.

No need to change that strike force - it’s about as strong as it could be already!

Dan,
Zaki & Van Persie are the current hot properties - Berbatov is your gamble: I would leave things alone.
I’m having a striker dilemma - Santa Cruz at home, against Arsenal and not 100% fit…
Thought about Berbatov and…Crouch!!…as replacements..but if Spurs can step up another gear (or two gears) from their performance v Chelsea they have too winnable home games against Villa and Wigan. The corresponding fixture last season involving Spurs and Villa had eight goals - don’t expect that this time but this Fantasy game is all about getting one or two players in who are in the unfavourable minority - a punt on Pavlyuchenko could reap dividends.

I am seriously toying with the idea of dropping Reina to the bench and playing Schwazer this weekend…any thoughts?

Reply by Akers on September 8, 2008 12:52 pm:
Close call, but I’d go for Schwarzer.

Reply by Dog Jake on September 8, 2008 1:51 pm:
Reina for me. I can only see a 0-0 in the Man U game!

Reply by dave on September 8, 2008 3:38 pm:
Yeah, i am taking this action plan as well as i feel fulham have greater credentials at keeping a clean sheet
[Reply]
Im thinking of having Schwartzer in goal this week (my other keeper is Jusi Jask). I fancy them to do better at home.
Zaki in for Ashton? What do we think?
[Reply]
Reply by Steve on September 8, 2008 12:44 pm:
I’m going for Schwarzer this week, Bolton are really stuggling to score at the moment. Zaki for Ashton, yes. I made the change at the start of the gameweek and got Zaki before his value went up so made a bit of cash at the same time.
[Reply]
Reply by Alexi on September 8, 2008 1:15 pm:
yup thats a no brainer ZAKI for Ashton…my keeping dilemma is Cech and Schwarzer? who would you play…I have got Carvalho so i was thinkin of spreading the risk..seeing that Man City are on a bit of fire! Just scary to sit a Chelsea player…
[Reply]
Reply by Steve on September 8, 2008 1:52 pm:
i think spread the risk, know what you mean about benching a Chelsea player, but surely Bolton ain’t going to score away at Fulham if they couldn’t score at home to West Brom? Don’t think City will do too well Vs Chelski, but they could get a goal.
[Reply]
Reply by Alexi on September 8, 2008 3:18 pm:
Fully agree with everything you say Steve thanks for input…i also dont fancy city to do well but they def. capable of a goal! Can’t see Bolton scoring there either i mean if Arsenal could’t surely they cant? Thing is ive seen these sort of things be4 that seem so obvious…but then come the weekend fulham underperform Bolton nick a 1-1 and Chelsea pull off a predictable 1-1…i hesitate to back a inconsistant team like fulham!

Reply by Alexi on September 8, 2008 3:19 pm:
sorry i meant Chelsea pull off a 1-0 win…

Alexi, I always find with FF that your damned if you do and damned if you don’t, that’s part of the fun (frustration) about playing the game. No-one really knows what’s going to happen cos “it’s a funny old game”, all you can do is go with your gut feeling. I’ve got Schwarzer and Jaskeleinen so i’m going for the big Aussie, although if i had to make your choice i too would be unsure which way to go. Pick one, cross your fingers and hope for the best mate.

Could anyone give me their thoughts on who’d be the best choice as captain,
the main contenders from my team for this week are
Bullard, Defoe, Berbatov, Gaamst Pedersen and Barry
I;d appreciate some tips
[Reply]
Reply by Steve on September 8, 2008 4:02 pm:
There’s lots of talk of Berb not playing or at least not playing the full game and the ‘Pool should keep things pretty tight at the back so that’s him out. Gamst ain’t done a lot so far and they are away to arsenal, so that’s him out. Bullard looks a pretty good bet, Bolton loook shakey at the mo and are missing some key players. Defoe could be a reasonable bet at home to Middlesborough. I personally don’t fancy Villa away at Spurs, although Spurs are rubbish at the moment, they may pick up after the result at chelsea. Perhaps see if someone else will give a more firm opionion on one of those 3 possibles.

Reply by Phil Pino on September 8, 2008 4:14 pm:
Here you go Lou/Steve - personally i’d go with Bullard. You can’t back Gamst against in an Arsenal fixture and i don’t like backing strikers for captaincy as their point-scoring potential is low (although i’m probably gonna go with Zaki this week, damn…)
Bullard is on a high after being selected for england, is generally the fulcrum of Fulham and playing an off-form Bolton.

Torres, Defoe, and probably Adebeyor (on the basis that RVP is made of papier mache and Berbatov will be rotated).

Same premise, what are people’s top 4 midfielders?
A Young, Fabregas, Lampard, SWP

I have Howard and Schwazer. After evertons poor defensive displays, not sure which one to pick. Any suggestions?
And, whos the favourite for captaincy this week…
[Reply]
Reply by Leighton on September 8, 2008 7:39 pm:
Both have cleansheet potential but preference would be for Schwarzer, against a goal-shy Bolton.
Very keen on Bullard this week - he is an assist/bonus points magnet. Yakubu has to be on the short-list as long as he doesn’t take any further penalties…

I don’t think we do. Arteta took them in pre-season when the Yak wasn’t playing and as the Yak missed one last week, Moyes may give it back to Arteta? I’m hoping so as i have Arteta but i don’t have the Yak
