Van Persie Declares Himself Fit
Arsenal’s mounting injury worries have been somewhat relieved by the news that Robin Van Persie considers himself fit for selection for Holland’s game with Norway on Wednesday.
The striker missed Saturday’s win over Iceland with a hamstring injury but is now back in contention.
That will be a major relief for his fantasy owners who must be hoping that the Dutch manage without him on Wednesday, leaving him fresh for selection against Everton this weekend. With Bendtner carrying an ankle knock - it would appear that Van Persie is odds on to start against the obliging Toffee’s defence, a prospect which could offer some decent returns.

I really would like a RVP style of player in my team - though the real RVP needs to be a fit version. Personally, I would not buy him as he gets injured easily. In addition, I already have Berbatov (waiting 4 him to hit top form), Defoe (currently scoring well) and Zaki(top goal scorer) and more value at the moment than RVP. Though Arsenal did beat Everton 4-1 last season. Nah, RVP can get the points but not too regularly methinks.

I have Zaki, Defoe and RVP. I’m a huge fan of RVP and perhaps overrate him.
I expect to eventually get rid of him, with the game against United looking good if he stays fit.
It was 1-0 in the corresponding fixture last season (hence rating of 3).

3 I was referring to the 4-1 game Akers - I didn’t know you could mind read me too? Anyway, I certainly agree with you about RVP being a class player, but who would you eventually swap him for, Maybe Carew, Berbatov or Keane?

I got rid of RVP for this GW which I didn’t want to as do like him a lot, but I tend to be blinded by payers I admire, rather than their FPL points potential. He’ll probably have good weekend but still haven’t forgiven him for a missing chances the GW I captained him.

Reply by kopthislot on October 13 7:15 pm:
Keane doesn’t represent good value for money as his price is based on last season form and he won’t have the same affect with Liverpool as he did with Tottenham: he’s in a big boys team now
I went with Carew.

I’m surprised why there’s so much coverage and debate on RVP on this site? Has he ever established himself as a FF god? Even when he’s on top form, other than the odd free kick he’s shockingly inconsistent / injury prone. I can’t ever see him getting more than 10 goals a season and very rarely do I see MOTD performances.
I would be paying more attention to Theo.

Because his points per game is high. Simple.

Reply by Dale the Hornet on October 14 9:29 am:
What 5? So is Donks (WB).
Defoe PO 7.3
Adebayor AR 6.6
Zaki WI 6.4
Torres LI 6
Carew AV 5.9
Di Michele WH 5.8
Cole WH 5.1
Van Persie AR 9.5 5
Is that high?

Reply by Akers on October 14 10:08 am:
Well, minutes per point is perhaps the stat I was referring to.

Reply by Akers on October 14 10:13 am:
Also, picking the top 6 or 7 point scorer after 6 or 7 games to prove your point is very naive.
I suppose you are a FPL points chaser, picking the flavour of last week the following week.
[Reply]
Reply by Dale the Hornet on October 14 10:32 am:
Haha, Naive? You are the one quoting statistics as proof and I suggest you are wrong with the fact that Donk has more PPG.
You suppose I’m a FPL points chaser? No - I don’t quote statistics, I give context - like the fact that his performances on the pitch do not warrent the publicity on this site.
RVP has huge potential, but he needs a consistent run of games before I jump on the bandwagon - especailly at £9.5m.

Reply by Old Gregg on October 14 12:54 pm:
True, Bergie was brilliant- remember the hat-trick against Leicester? Or the goal against Argentina in the world cup with Barry Davies going mental?!
But van P has had some moments too.. that volley from the edge of the box a few seasons back (was it against Sunderland)… Unbelievable.
Think it’s a real shame that he’s missed so much time out.. he’s actually criminally underrated. His technique and balance is really sublime.

He’s just gone ahead of Zaki by one goal, but the comment still makes the same sense. Rvp is a fantastic player, but I agree with Fran, he is rather injury prone and a bit of a risky proposition. On the other hand you’ve probably got to take a few risks to get ahead of the pack- a lot of us have similar teams. If van persie stays fit and plays his best football he could do very well.

lampard and ireland
or
SWP and A.Young

I’d rather have Lamp’ard and A. Young! Oh! I do!

van persie is a great player but he always gets injured. rotation is a factor is well. if he would stay fully fit i would say he would be a great fantasy pick but not at this present time.

1. figueroa and berba or
2. ferdinand and carew

I’d go with option 1 - I think there’s more potential for big points with Berba

Option 2 sounds a bit stronger. Carew is scoring against weaker teams. And Ferdinand from the League/Champions league European winners - Need I say more.

If Persie plays, he’ll at least score 1 goal.
A fine player indeed who is beginning to hit top form.
But I agree, a risky choice.

I always looked up to Gerrard to being a great if not legendary player. Now he says this:
“Steven Gerrard has bucked the trend of the last few days by claiming England fans had every right to boo Ashley Cole during the 5-1 drubbing of Kazakhstan on Saturday.”
Unbelievable if true!? Can Mark or anyone else confirm this? What is going on?

Unfortunately, I fear the Republic of Liverpool has rubbed off on Gerrard. Carra’s comments about England in his book shocked me to the core - he feels worse when losing for Liverpool than he ever did in an England shirt. Shocking. In Cloughy’s day, he would have been exilled for treason.
[Reply]
I’m with Gerrard on this one, the fans in the stadium pay for their tickets and if they are appalled by the lax arrogance they see from a greedy unpleasant character then why should they not boo him?
[Reply]
Reply by Dale the Hornet on October 14 10:42 am:
I’m with Franny on this one (God help me!)
Why should an England supporter not boo an England player.
… I’ll give you a clue, the trick is in the word “supporter”.
Do you really believe Cole was thinking “I’m going be lax arrorant here, that p** off the England fans”?!

Does anyone think that Robinho might actually be a good buy? He’s done rather well straight out of the box at city and scored an absolute screamer for Brasil.

Jo being more out-and-out ought to rack up more fantasy points. Earlier we predicted Robinho might steal the bonus, but that clearly isn’t happening enough.

Either Robinho or Jo, both playing for Brazil and Man City are pretty good. I think with Man City’s easier fixtures it seems like a good investment.

I’m not immediately in the market, I’ve got Torres, Berba and Zaki and am happy with them all. However I’ve been surprised that Robinho is rarely included when striking options are discussed. He had a difficult time at Real, but that club is the graveyard of talent. Remember how highly rated he was when he first went there. He could be the surprise player that wins the ff league for someone. I’m almost talking myself into it but I’d have to get rid of that one legged fellow, what’s his name? Oh that’s it, My Defence.

Reply by Fran on October 13 11:37 pm:
Not totally sure about this but I think your three strikers will score more than Robinho during the course of the season. However, the Man City striker is a very good player - maybe not worth 32M but not far under that.

Lampard & Berbatov
or Ronaldo & Mido.

Neville from manu, looks good value at 5.6, played 90min in rounds 5 and 6, i believe he was then injuried, can someone please let me know is he part of manu best 11, or how many games is he expected to play. I need this help as Im on the other side of the world and dont get to see many games, or get any news
[Reply]
He is 5.6 because MU have 3 competing right backs.
[Reply]
Reply by Dale the Hornet on October 14 9:25 am:
I disagree ddj. He started at 6.0 and dropped value due to erroneous transfers when there was incertainty over his recovery from injury.
Brown is the only competing RB. Rafael is a puppy.
“can someone please let me know is he part of manu best 11″
- He’s the club captain so if he stays injury free he’ll be playing. Neville will prove good value.
[Reply]
Even if he is first choice, it just means he will be more likely to play the European games, and less likely to play the easier league games. There is no way both Neville and Brown won`t get games this season, and I think the wee nipper will steal the odd few minutes. I see it as a lost cause, because however the debate turns out, I still can`t see him being a good pick unless something changes.
[Reply]
Neville is a gamble but I’m convinced over what I’ve seem over the past month he’ll play over Brown (regained captaincy over Ferdy, 90 min vs Chelsea, Brown dropped for Rafael against Aalborg).
Out of interest, who’s your alternatives to Neville (at similar price)?
[Reply]
Reply by ddj on October 15 5:57 pm:
I don`t personally see any value in the current ~6M defenders. A reliable big 4 costs 6.5 right now, and you can pick up defenders for good teams around the 4.5 price tag which should compensate.
My backline is currently:
Evra(6.5)-Bosingwa(6.0)-Traore(4.5)-Figueroa(4.0)-Paintsil(4.0)
Paintsil–>Garrido is on the “to do list”, though.
I was fortunate that gambling on Bosingwa and Figueroa from the off came through good, so perhaps I have a slightly more comfortable defensive budget than most.
[Reply]
if someone gave me 6 to one that RVP will have a biscuit crumb fall off his leg if he plays for holland, thus injuring himself to prevent him playing against everton- I’d slap a ton on it.

Reply by Akers on October 14 10:16 am:
6 to 1? You must be mental, no bookie would give you anything higher than evens.

I’ll give you 1-100 odds that Zaki will tie with Ronaldo, Berbatov & Defoe for the Golden Boot award at the end of the season. I’ve got it from a reliable Fran-source that it’s a dead cert.
I’d slap a ton on it. Who else wants to make some money?
[Reply]
I am a seson ticket holder at Man U with a few contacts.
Take it from me, Brown will start over Neville. Neville has the captaincy to keep him involved as a bit part player who will come on to close games or for less significant fixtures like the cups!

How many games has Neville missed this year when fit, I noticed Neville played in the Chelsea game, a big game at the time for MU, but Brown played against Lpool, was Neville fit agst lpool

Reply by Dale the Hornet on October 14 12:41 pm:
With respect, I’d rather look at the facts. Like 90 mins vs Chelsea (less significant?!).
Neville is a winner who established himself at a young age and is a leader on the pitch, Brown is a squad player who got a chance with Neville injured and still frequently makes individual mistakes.
Davs, Neville has also been tipped to make an Engalnd comeback so Brown may not be an England player for long:

I think you are right straw. Brown is an England player on the rise whilst Neville is in decline. Neville will get a few games as a thanks from Sir Alex who hasn’t got it in him to just drop Neville immediately but will not want Brown to leave.

How can anyone think Brown will play more from what we have seen? When Neville was fit he didnt only take back his place but the captains armband as well if that aint enough Brown didnt even make the squad the one game i watched!? Sure he has done well now when he has come but anyone who says Brown will keep that spot either has him in their team and is praying or just is plain stupid! Base your comments on facts next time rather than assumptions!
