It’s Four Games Out For Torres
After a day of speculation on the extent of the injury to Fernando Torres, Liverpool have confirmed that the striker will be absent for 10-15 days, making him likely to miss four games.
Today’s scan results revealed a tear in his right hamstring and, as expected, Torres will now miss games against Wigan this weekend and the midweek Champions League tie with Atletico. However, Rafa will be particular bitter that Torres is also set to miss additional games at Chelsea and at home to Portsmouth.
Liverpool also revealed that Ryan Babel has sprained his left ankle and although details on his absence are sketchy, it is believed that he will return before Torres, with an outside chance that he will make the Wigan game…
Rafa now has few options in the absence of Torres and maybe Babel against Wigan. A Keane and Kuyt partnership in a 4-4-2 would appear to be the obvious option, although Gerrard could also be pushed up just off Keane as an alternative, with Alonso restored to central midfield.

Yipeeeeeeeeeee!
Brilliant hahahaha lets see the scousers suffer, rubbish without Torres
At least they have Kuyt and Keane to score instead
hahahahahaha won’t be investing in that theory!

not gna win the league AGAIN
Reply by Fran on October 16th, 2008 7:06 pm:
The Liverpool fans have been suffering since last winning the title in 1990. They deserve to win the title this year hopefully, but how many false dawns have there been? Hopefully, they will beat Chelsea at home next week to show their real intentions and take away that 4.5 year record. I remember Liverpool beating European and League Champions Man United without Gerrard and Torres this season – everyone should expect more of the same!
Reply by Dudee on October 16th, 2008 8:58 pm:
Beat united without him , dont see why we cant beat Wigan
Do we think Agger is going to play next game? Also do we think Brown will play or Neville?
Any news on Zaki?
Reply by CK on October 16th, 2008 8:16 pm:
Agger to play. Neville is Fergusons favourite
Why on earth do Liverpool deserve to win the league? they play the worst football of the top 4, have the most annoying fans and they’re owned by a couple of fat American idiots.
Reply by Revolver on October 16th, 2008 7:11 pm:
Exactly but thats fran for you
Reply by Fran on October 16th, 2008 7:17 pm:
I thought Chelsea played the worst football in the last 4-5 years – everyone complains about them? Fans, well just as annoying as all other teams. Yeah, I definitely agreed with the American owners bit – bad if US economy falls etc.

Sure you’re not talking about man utd?
Yeah, Brown or Neville to play anyone confident they know?
News on Boswinga and Zaki would be appreciated too.
ANYONE OUT THERE??????
PS
Which is best
Agger who may or may not play for 5.9 with cash left over or Evra for 6.5m

Well I have cech gallas sagna bosingwa traore and garrido…
That’s the league challenge finished for them then…
Does anyone think there’s any chance that SAF will rest Ronaldo this weekend for the CL game midweek? I’m very much hoping not as I just used my wildcard and completely rearranged my (OK) side to get him in.
I’m hoping he’ll want to give him games to get up to full fitness but it would really throw a spanner in the works if he was rested. I’m pretty much planning on having him as perma-captain, barring top four opposition away games and now I’m getting jittery about the possibility of him sitting on the bench against ‘weaker’ opposition, easpecially before matches in Europe.
Reply by Andy_P on October 16th, 2008 8:05 pm:
I can’t see him not playing, United need to win every game in the short term to catch Chelsea and Liverpool. In the CL they can rest him and probably still do enough to win and if they can only get a draw in the CL it’s still not a disaster.
Reply by Fran on October 16th, 2008 9:26 pm:
Yes, definitely, Ronaldo will be rested this weekend to get ready the the vital CL game. But this will be after he scores a goal, sets up Berbatov for 2 more goals and SAF takes him off to the bench after 75Mins of points joy for those who have him as captain – in other words you can rest soundly! Mmmmmm I think I said that before somewhere, ahhh yes I remember – ZAKI! Dread the thought lightning striking twice at home. Any thought from someone about the potential of Ronaldo having a bad weekend like Zaki?
Reply by Lee on October 16th, 2008 10:22 pm:
Rest Ronaldo against West Brom, somehow I don’t think so. He’ll be filling his boots this weekend, leave him out at your peril.
I doubt it Easy, he needs matches to get his fitness up, and Man U aren’t sitting pretty 10pts up in the prem, so I think he’ll start. I wouldn’t be suprised if he goes off after 75-80 mins tho if they are 2-3 goals up.
That’s kind of what I was thinking but just needed to hear it from someone else
If Torres is out for 2 weeks makes my def look much stronger over the 2 coming gameweeks! =D
Did anyone manage not to make their 1 and only transfer until after the looooooong double gameweek internationals?
I surprised myself and still have my free transfer. It was hard. But in the end i’m not sure that waiting made much difference. Zaki and Bosingwa in my team but i’m not going to get rid as their injuries short-term and I expect them to do well over the season so will keep.
I’m thinking Valencia for Taylor. Has Taylor scored good points in previous seasons?
Reply by EasyLuckyFree on October 16th, 2008 8:42 pm:
Taylor is solid and maybe a bit more than that. Last year he didn’t play in enough games, I assume through injury, but the year before he was up there with the second string players, in the group behind the likes of Gerrard and Lampard etc). Has a decent goals, assists and points per game tally. Could be a really good buy. I thought seriously about it but haven’t yet found a way of squeezing him in.
Reply by the Moz on October 16th, 2008 8:44 pm:
I still have my free one!
Matt TAylor was brilliant at Portsmouth 2 years ago but has never reproduced his form for Bolton, yet. But he may – an interesting gamble.
I’d probably play safe with Valencia
I’m getting in VDS this week for Kirkland.
Anyone know if VDS is OK?
Reply by will on October 16th, 2008 8:51 pm:
Wasn’t he classified as a defender 2 years ago at portsmouth? or was that longer ago?
Reply by EasyLuckyFree on October 16th, 2008 8:53 pm:
It might well have been that year. Was that the year he scored the crazy long range thunderbolts?
Reply by will on October 16th, 2008 8:56 pm:
Yeah, thats why he scored so high, 50 odd pts from clean sheets
Reply by Leighton on October 16th, 2008 9:03 pm:
From my memory he played left back and then went to left midfield at Pompey about 3 years ago – seem to remember him scoring a great long range goal v Sunderland and they stuffed them at the Stadium of Light..
Reply by CK on October 16th, 2008 8:53 pm:
I still have my free too but just about to buy Evra for Clichy.
Re Matt Taylor. Get him in. Cunning purchase!
Reply by Dimitrije on October 17th, 2008 6:31 pm:
Yeah, I made my free one already, and now I’m stuck with the attacking line of Torres Zaki and Zamora of all people, in other words I’m screwed. Know what, I’ll take a 4 points hit to change Torres for Ronaldo, than captain Ronaldo… which almost guaranties that he will be rubbish, given my choice of captains (Zaki last week, Fabregas week before that, and two weeks berfore that… Torres)
Reply by Dimitrije on October 17th, 2008 6:43 pm:
I’m so bummed about Torres I started writing nonsense It would of course take 8 points to get Ronaldo in somethin like Torres out Cerew in; Fabregas or Arteta out Ronaldo in, so what do you think guys? Is it worth a 8 points hit?

Without Fernando we can’t play good attacking football!
Robbie Keane, what a waste of money he can’t hit a barn door!
Reply by Jyri on October 16th, 2008 10:10 pm:
The Mancs were beaten with Kuyt and Keane, so no problemo.
put reina as striker and rest gerrard in goal. you can shove keane in goal along with gerrard and that way yoo won’t concede
Another Franism:
“They (Liverpool) deserve to win the title this year.”
Based on what do they deserve to win the title this year? Since they last won the league, they have played diabolically dull football, relying on a clinical striker with uninventive but occasionally proficient players behind them. Liverpool “deserve” not to qualify for the CL, and then hopefully an overhaul, and an effort to bring in youth and excitement might see others start to appreciate them.
Reply by Lee on October 16th, 2008 10:36 pm:
Yup I think everyone here agrees, the kind of football we see Liverpool playing nowadays isn’t the football we want to watch, desperately dull. One way of judging a teams entertainment value is by the number of goals they score. So lets see, the last 5 league seasons Liverpool have scored 55, 52, 57, 57, 67, Chelski have scored 67, 72, 72, 64, 65. I’m not even going to include United and Arsenal in this. Why would it be any different this year?
Reply by Big Ron on October 16th, 2008 10:39 pm:
Would have to disagree with you there Dave. During Evan’s reign as manager,Liverpool played some wonderful stuff. The Fowler/Collmore front two supported by Mcmanaman,Redknapp,McAteer was a joy to watch.Wasn’t it the 95/96 season that Fowler and Collymore hot 55 goals between them?Quality.
I play telegraph FF
I am thinking of Torres out for Ronaldo. That would leave me with Zaki and Defoe up front which could be a bit light weight.
Unless I stay 4-3-3 and stick Berbatov in, was in form before International break and Utd seem to have started their season now and decent fixtures over next 4 games.
What do you reckon?
Yeah of course Liverpool deserve the title – nice to see another team win it at last, meaning bored of United and Chelsea dominating. They have made it to 2 Euro finals which is better than most teams recently. They won the cup 5 times again better than any other English team. They have won the league 18 times, better than any other English team. I should really rest my case here alone. I think they deserve to be in the CL as they play well in that competition. They also had the BEST English teams between 1976-1990 – arguably the best in English history with exciting football. But you immature kids here are too young to remember that! Haha!

Absolute nutcase, 1976-1990 has nothing to do with the right to be in a competition now
Forest would still be in the CL by that reckoning
Reply by andddy on October 17th, 2008 7:02 am:
Fran did not explicity say liverpool deserve to be in the cl becuase they had good teams during 1976 to 1990. He only said Liverpool deserve to be in the cl cos they always play well in the cl, which i think is quite crap a reason too but rafa u have misunderstood his message.
Reply by Fran on October 17th, 2008 9:58 am:
Correct andddy!
Any thoughts on what most Torres holders out there will do – and there are a lot of them. Given that he’ll be missing for more than one game I wouold think a lot will sell rather than bench.
Could see a few move to Adebayor. Given Rooney’s form during the international a lot may just make the move to him – might push his price up. Of more interest is those Torres owners who don’t own Ronaldo. They may take the opportunity to downgrade Torres to somebody like Defoe to bring in Ron – further pushing up the prices of those two players….
Another thing concerning Liverpool is the absent of people advocating that Gerrard may get the highest points total this weekend. He will be pushed up into attack as he is scoring well, especially if the team aren’t doing well. So as people think about the Lamps, the Ronaldo lovers and ‘lazy’ Berbatov, the real discussion could be, what will Gerrard do?
Mark i’m eagerly waiting for your scouts pick tomorrow! Hopefully i can get up and read it while having coffee before heading to class. (I’ve got a noon class so no pressure, hehe)
Gents & Fran(?),
Any opinion on who is the best Man City Defender to bring in? While the highest volume of NTI’s seem to suggest Kompany, there is also a very cheap Garrido at 4.3 not to mention the star in the making Richards and the always dependable Dunne. Tough choice.
To be honest, at the moment I am thinking Dunne might be the better, conservative choice. He seems to be well established and has pulled some decent minutes played, boni’s and total points over the last few seasons.
Thoughts?
Reply by Leighton on October 17th, 2008 6:13 am:
City’s cleansheet tally is unlikely to be great even with decent upcoming fixtures, so with Kompany playing in the midfield he’s got more chance of bagging you points.
At the price though Garrido for the odd clean sheet and goal potential is definitely worth it. Dunne chips in with the odd goal and wears his heart on his sleeve but he’ll have more cards by the end of the season than Clintons…
Reply by Fran on October 17th, 2008 10:00 am:
Maybe bring in Garrido as he’s cheap and can do free kicks. Then you can spend more in midfield and attack where the real points usually are.
I had Kompany for a few weeks but shipped him out last week, thinking of bringing in Garrido next week cause he’s cheap for a regular starter for a top half team.
I’d pass on Dunne. He’s been good for bonus points in previous seasons, but this year I anticipate the forwards hoggin all the bonus (swp, robinho, Petrov, Elano etc.) Richards could be good for some goals this season, but in that price bracket i’d go for Kompany who should keep his place. Having said that, I’m bringing in Garrido this week – great value and already has 1G 1A up his sleeve.
Fran girl… I like the cut of yer jib… ‘deserving to win’ is the coat losers wear.
Liverpool will win when Liverpool chose to win and I smell victory this year… of course it could be Revolvers feet?
Liverpool deserve to win nothing! What determines when you ‘deserve’ to win? Load of bullsh!t. The best team deserves to win, and in that case Liverpool have deserved nothing for the past 15 yrs. And that includes the Champions League which they took. Worst team to ever win it.
If you are talking of deserved, (I am a United fan by the way) Arsenal deserve to win it, purely because Wenger has had his teams playing by far the best and most attractive football of the last 10 yrs.
Liverpool deserve to be relegated if attractiveness is your benchmark over the last 10 yrs. And Fran you said boring Chelsea and United…. please…. that is a joke…
Reply by shankly boys on October 17th, 2008 8:14 am:
Dancinator… you are nearly right you know.
The ‘best’ team wins the league, no argument, its a long, tough road over the winter months and every point is a prisoner. No ‘cup luck’ can produce a freak result (89 aside?)
That is why Liverpool fans hold their hands up to Utd and begrudgingly acknowledge your recent turnaround in fortune. That is also why we expect the same from you in return…
18 titles
5 European Cups
Chew that one over… and by the way… I loved your frock on Strictly.
Reply by Fran on October 17th, 2008 10:09 am:
Dancinator – You can’t deny that Liverpool are the best English team ever, though Man Utd are catching up fast! However, you are right Liverpool have not been too consistent over the last 15 years or so. Sometimes in that period thay have played attractive football. But often they would rely only in 2-3 players great. That’s not good enough to win the league. However if they do manage to win at Wigan and especially at Stamford Bridge next weekend (both hard Games) then I think they are probably on the way to win the league. Better still if they win without Torres too? I just think the people on this site are too young to remember when Liverpool won the league. People laugh at Spurs now but they had one of the most attractive attacking team of all-time in the 1960’s. Haha!

Hi all,
the big question is if youv’e got torres who do you swap him for? im wavering over Berbatov or Adebayor. Both have easy games but im worried about berbatov being rotated.
Reply by Fran on October 17th, 2008 10:11 am:
Or you can get Rooney perhaps?!
Reply by dunk on October 17th, 2008 7:39 pm:
A lot of injury worries this weekend and personally I’m very disappointed that Torres is out having brought him in for Defoe. I’ve used up my monthly transfers so no option to sell him, not that I really want to. Zaki is also a doubt with a similar injury so I’ll be playing Berbatov on his own up front and he’s the man I think you should go for. I don’t think he will be rotated much as long as he plays well, sir Alex sees him as being a pivotal figure this season imo. I think that surrounded by the attacking talent at ManU and with the motivation to be counted among the great strikers, Berbatov will have a great, free scoring season. That’s why I’ve got him anyway. Rooney is on great form but over the season I worry about cards and suspensions.
hahahaha Shankly. I don’ t need to argue. I don’ t need to chew over anything. I know the statistics. Those 18 titles will soon be overtaken though so don’ t worry. The European Cups will come in time too
