Duo Return For Gunners
Some early Champions League team news from the Emirates has Wenger confirming that both Bendtner and Djourou are fit and available to face Fenerbahce tomorrow.
Both missed the Everton game at the weekend, Bendtner with an ankle injury, Djourou with concussion. It was thought that the Danish striker would sit out for a couple of games but he is back and available as an option. Djourou meanwhile, will be the obvious replacement for Toure who suffered a shoulder ligament injury against Everton and is out of tomorrow night’s game.
With Arsenal taking on West Ham on Sunday and then Spurs on Wednesday - both could also be set for Premiership action in the next 10 days…
As for Wenger’s other injuries - Gallas and Sagna will sit out the Fenerbahce match but Wenger hopes to have them back in the squad for the trip to Upton Park. No news on Nasri’s thigh injury as yet, although this report confirms it as a minor knock. We’ll know more when Arsenal’s squad list for tomorrow night is announced.

Where can I view Mark’s team, I cant find it in either Scout Picks or the other one. Can someone explain how?

i normally only enter the sun dream team but as a regular visitor to this site i thought i’d give the fpl game a try. im a 1st time poster and although my team seems pretty similar to most i wanted general thoughts or tips really as this is my 1st fpl team, great site by the way mark.
cech, traore, bosingwa, figueroa, lampard, young, geovanni, wright-phillips, defoe, zaki, rooney. kirkland, delap, turner, cahill.

same as any other persons team. I’d say if you have chased that team you will probably never catch up and if you had it from the off you’re probably winning something

sounds about right, im about 1500 in the sun with kirkland, bosingwa, turner, neville, steinsson, lampard, gerrard, young, torres, adebayor, zaki. you only get 6 tranfers in 2 windows a season though! my fpl will obviously change in time but its completely different from the sun so im still learning. i had duff in the sun but you just cant touch newcastle players!

A little off topic but need some opinions as I’m struggling to make my mind up between Turner and Traore? Reasons for either 2 or perhaps a decent alternative?

Isn`t Kranjcar out for another month, then presumably a few weeks getting back into the swing?
Reply by Phil Pino on October 20 1:29 pm:
I agree with what’s been said here and Mark started a thread about what Harry thinks, but for the next 5 games or so i’d expect Traore to play, probably with a rest in there somewhere. He’s been playing so well i wouldn’t expect Kranjcar to take that flank. Most likely he’ll take the right.
Even if he doesn’t continue in midfield, he could theoretically shift into LB, he’s still good value even there!
Thanks for the replies lads. However, fixtures aren’t too much of a worry as my thoughts are my subs should cover Hull adequately. Any further ideas?

Reply by ddj on October 20 1:11 pm:
If it isn`t for someone which you need to play, then I agree with Dave below. Even with the fixtures, he is likely to keep rising for the next few weeks, especially if a cleany shows up next weekend.
[Reply]
I do believe short-term Turner is the better option - his price is going to rocket with him being virtually top-scorer. You can change in a few weeks if you’re not happy with him and will have made a profit.

Anyone think that Michael Turner could be this years (dare I say it) Laursen? 4.6 mil, 8 bonus points and 2 goals in 8 games, and Hull aren’t looking too bad clean sheet wise as well?

Reply by Pasqualinho on October 20 1:58 pm:
I doubt he’ll hit those heights. Will definitely rise in value in the short-term, though - Could go up 0.2 by Saturday, but after that it’s Chelsea, Man Utd etc so I would expect most people to leave well alone. If you are prepared to bench him for the tough games, though, he may prove a good addition to your squad.

Howdy folks
Talking of Arsenal (sort of) the question on many a fantasy football managers lips is…..
Stick with Adebayor or get rid?!
I’ve had him since the start of the season. Was about to drop him and then he got that hat-trick the other week. But since then, barely anything. I’m looking at switching him for Van Persie or Defoe…..
Thoughts would be appreciated folks.

The thing about strikers is that you sometimes have to stick with them through bad patches. Ade will come good again, and you’ll probably be sorry you took him out once Arsenal tear someone apart again and he scores another hat-trick. The key in this game is not to panic once a couple of your players go through a bad patch… if they are quality players then they are worth keeping long term because u know they’ll produce eventually.

You could bring in Rooney. Or you could bring in Defoe and upgrade a midfielder, if you don’t have Ronaldo or Lampard.
[Reply]
Yeah I’ve got Ronaldo already.
Team is:
Almunia
Clichy, Turner, Kompany, Boswinga
Barry
Young, Lampard, Ronaldo
Zaki, Adebayor.
Rooney is a good call. THink it’s Ade out, then rooney/defoe/van persie in…
[Reply]
Reply by ddj on October 20 1:59 pm:
I would be more concerned about the Arsenal defenders than Ade. Despite not catching fire, he is still the 3rd rank striker. What`s to complain about?
Also, Barry played a defensive role this weekend, so it could be a situation worth monitoring.

Reply by andyy on October 20 2:10 pm:
just get rid of adebayor cos there are much better alternatives available. For instance, if u switched to van persie or berbatov, u could save 1.5mil to strengthen other areas and they do tend to score the same points. even if van p/berbs score less (which i doubt), they would still be more vfm than ade.
The records dont lie, out of all the premier league games ade has played in he has only scored in ONE game. no point hoping he will hit form soon (or u will fall into the bentley trap) as the way arsenal plays means ANYONE can score. ade drifts to the wing to hold up the ball and to create space for other players most of the time and thats y he got more assists than goals this season. anyway his basic finishing is crap. even if he can score next week i wont be worried as i believe he is not vfm and he is inconsistent.
he did well last season cos he was the only striker for arsenal in an injury ravaged season and he had LOADS of chances and fab was on form.

Reply by ddj on October 20 2:46 pm:
Van Persie will not score the same as Ade. The man is made of glass, and whilst in my opinion he is a much better player, Ade is robust and plays every match. I agree Berbatov is a great alternative, and in my opinion a better pick, but the Arsenal defense has been performing bad, and right now, half injured!

Reply by Pasqualinho on October 20 3:11 pm:
I bought in RVP for the Everton game with the intent of switching him out again - Wenger has a tendency to rest him after away Euro games (has happened on both occasions this season) - so I wouldn’t advise swapping Adebayor for him this week. Saying that, though, I am dithering over his sale as I’d quite like to keep him in for the Tottenham game the following week - and have suitable bench cover should he not play on Saturday. I’d agree that Adebayor is a better pick in regard of points returned - but think 11.2 is a bit steep.

Reply by andyy on October 20 3:12 pm:
heya agree that van persie is frustratingly injury prone, but i’m suggesting him as i find it hard to resist arsenal attackers for the next few games. guess it will have to boil down to the mid week game, whether berbs or van persie gets injured or sth.. anyway my other rationale for choosing van persie is cos both he and ade haf roughly the same chances to score in each match and though both are off form having missed sitters in the previous few games, i still think van persie has got better technicial and finishing skills than ade, and he takes free kicks too, though they either hit the wall or gets agonizing close which the keeper can keep out.
guess van p and berbs are the best alternatives to adebayor for now (other than rooney for those ppl who wan to save some money).

IMO - Theo Walcott will get more games than RVP this season. He is cheaper and coming into good form - don’t miss him. Also Adebayor is a regular, but you are right he can be pricey, better to stick with Zaki - top scorer for this season methinks.
[Reply]
will, as for turner being the next laursen, I think you may be getting a bit ahead of yourself. Many people will transfer him in, perhaps to get the extra 0.1 or 0.2, and then realize that after WBA, he is hosting Chelsea, then traveling to Old Trafford the next. City are no pushover in a few weeks either, so unless you are looking to make a quick buck and play him at left bench for a while, I would suggest holding off on him. To draw a similar parallel to Turner being the next Laursen, I would say Hull are like the promoted Wigan team that took everyone by surprise to win 8 of their first 11, and then began losing the close games they had been winning.

Reply by Fran on October 20 3:34 pm:
Buying Turner is a great idea 15 points this game week alone - He’s cheap, score goals, gets clean sheets against many lower teams etc. Always useful to have. Bargain buy!
[Reply]
I really don’t rate Adebayor. For me, he is a slightly superior Carlton Cole - gangly and with poor skills. He tailed off very badly last year. You could upgrade to Torres and downgrade Barry if you wanted. I agree with ddj, look at your Arsenal defence - for only a bit more you could have Cech / VDS and Evra / Carvalho.

Also he was 17 at the time…not everyone is a Fabregas, who can move to a different country and settle in straight away. Perhaps England wouldn’t have been good for his development.
Certainly, £14m is a lot to risk on a 17 year old, no matter how good he is. Athletico could double their money now, but they don’t all come off.
Everyone should be rushing to sign up his (as yet) unborn sons though…his father in law will soon be Maradona!

Wenger has no peers when it comes to identifying talent at an early stage, and that includes Rafa and Ferguson. If money weren’t such a big deal in the Premier League, then Arsenal would win the league more often than not I think… and this is coming from a Liverpool fan!

Lampard is going to have the same type of season he had a few years ago when he was up there with Henry in terms of fantasy must haves. If you can squeeze him on your team with Ronaldo and Zaki, that is the winning combination. I also think Arteta will have the same type of year he had two years ago, plus he is taking the penalty kicks now. Milner and Sidwell make Aston Villa very interesting as far as who will play regularly in the midfield.

CK - Are you speaking for me? I did not say these players would score higher than Ronaldo - You just said that!
However, let me justify my points again even though I’ve done in previous texts over the last 7 days.
1) Walcott is cheap and a regular for Arsenal (he will miss the odd game for resting). He will get assists, some bonus points and goals throughout the season barring injuries.
2) Berbatov will ahare the points with Rooney and Ronaldo as seen this weekend for evidence.
3) Zaki should be top scorer this season if you want to go for plenty of points - barring injuries.
4) Ronaldo should do very well this season overall but not as good as last season as Berbatov is better and Rooney is on fire at the moment. SAF has certainly strengthen his team immensely like getting Berbatov - as he can do things Rooney and Ronaldo can’t - both other players are often rushing about, while Berbatov sets up the play and is more a thinking footballer! BTW Lampard has the same potential to be Player of the Season as too with Rooney + Zaki + Torres (when fit).

It seems that as soon as any player scores more than 6 points in any given week they become a “MUST HAVE!” and you bang on about them constantly until, heaven forbid they have a 2 point week and are replaced with the latest craze.
