Evra Fears Allayed

It appears it’s good news on the Evra’s hamstring injury, with the United full back going through a running session this morning, according to United’s official site.

Evra picked up a hamstring strain in Saturday’s win over West Brom and was subbed in the first half. He wasn’t subjected to full training but will undergo a fitness as he attempts to make tomorrow night’s Champions League encounter with Celtic.

John O’Shea is likely to step in tomorrow night if he fails to make it but this news should at least put the minds of Evra owners at rest in terms of the the forthcoming Premiership games. United face Everton at Goodison on Saturday and then host West Ham the following Wednesday.

*UPDATE* Evra have been ruled out of tomorrow night’s game but there’s good news for the weekend…

“It’s too big a risk when it’s a hamstring injury,” said Ferguson earlier today. “He should be okay for Saturday.”

  3. Any thoughts on if Evra (if fit) would be a good buy for Clichy? I can see Everton scoring and west ham aren’t to shabby either.

I feel I have to get rid of Clichy regardless, as . Apart from Evra anyone else to consider? I have 6.5 to spend in the FPL game and don’t want another Chelsea defender as i already have Boswinga.

If i could save a little bit as well so i can upgrade Etherington to Taylor than that would be a bonus…..

  4. I’m shipping out Clichy for Evra - Arsenal can’t seem to keep clean sheets at the moment - they need a replacement for Flamini.

  5. As a Gunner, i`m sad to say I never imagined we will match the Mancs or Ski on cleanies, and shipped out Clichy for Evra as soon as the Mancs fixtures cleaned up. Haven`t looked back …

  6. I am in the same boat as above. Thinking Evra also. But I am thinking of maybe leaving it a week. United playing Everton who always seem to fight to the death against them. Alternatively I would like to get in A Cole or Bosingwa but I think they are 0.1m too expensive (6.6m). Also I would not do this this week as they are playing the pool.

So Cole, Evra and Bos are the options but unless Bos or Coles values come down this week, it would seem like Evra.

Bosingwa is now 6.7m! and still rising

Had him for 6.0 from the off :-P

What about Carvalho? He is expected back, and the Pool game could give you a sneaky peek.

On a side note, MU v Wigan game isn`t going to be played in December. With most teams featuring multiple players from both, it may be worth some consideration in your decision.

  7. I can see the arse keeping 2 clean sheets out of next 3 games. You lot are way too fickle! up until 2 weeks ago they had more clean sheets than anyone else. stick with clichy.

or if want some extra cash, wait a week and swap for Agger

Yes, but that is because, we, Arsenal, have had the easiest fixtures of the big 4. Evidently I made the correct decision as in the 3 games since I got Evra in, MU have kept 3 cleanies, albeit Evra missed the points this week. Clichy has taken 4 points from those games.

    Arsenal defenders are overpriced.

Unfortunately, I kept faith with Clichy, and my budget options haul more points than him, to think that at one time I could have bought Bosingwa for less. The thing is I already have to make some other substitutions, Torres will have to go to make way for Ronaldo, and that is a two week action. In the meantime I have to suffer for my poor choices of defense players.
Clichy, Laursen, Kompany, Agger, Traore A. (Reina on the gate)
I really need to find a way to tap into Chelsea and MU defense clean sheets.

  8. depends what game you play but i agree clichy is possibly a bit expensive in FPL. I still think west ham, tottenham and stoke should give a couple of clean sheets. Evra may be rested on saturday and even if he plays, Everton are a lot mor elikely to score than West Ham so at least give it a week.

  9. I may be the only one but in my view if you wanna be a success at FF to be fickle is essential! You follow the form of players, if they arn’t producing you get rid. Bentley is a perfect example, people are still waiting for his ‘form’ to return!

Cheers for ya feedback guys, i have thought of Calvalho ddj however i dont want to have more than one player from each club in each position i.e defense/midfield/forwards. Feel like im putting in all eggs in one basket and it seems to work for me the past couple of seasons.

Any thoughts on Kompany? Or even Laursen?

I agree about being Fickle, to a point. I mean, you need a balance of consistent performers and form players. It goes without saying, but at 6.5, a defender must be in the consistent bracket. Not to mention the price changing factor of the official game.

I disagree about multiple players in one position. Whilst I would not advice doing so with lower teams, Chelsea defenders are largely, perhaps entirely, immune to rotation within a fantasy football team. As such, I believe in simply picking the ones which you feel will score highest as they will be first 11 every game for you anyway?

hey tommy i totally agree with ya. key would be in identifying when players’ form will drop, rather than in when players’ form will rise.

For instance i got rid of ashley young b4 the chelsea match and it has turned out good as he only got 2 pts each for his last 2 matches. He’s good but tends to fade away after a while so i doubt he can get big points per match. Also got rid of adebayor last week (he only got 1 pt this week phew) and so profitted from all his bonus, assist and goals in the past and also benefitted from berbatov’s 11pts (whom i transferred in for ade) this week.

Another player like bentley would be downing. had both of them at the start but luckily i got rid of bentley when he was still 8.0mil and kept downing until he missed his 2nd penalty in a row. shld haf transferred him out earlier and would not have lost any money.. so the point is to be brave abt it and not putting blind faith but not being too fickle as well though. sometimes patience does benefit.

  10. What goalkeeping options look good at the moment? I have Reina but was thinking of taking him out for the Chelsea game - any ideas?

Could Reina be worth hanging onto for after the Chelsea game (Liverpool look suprisingly dodgy at the back this season).

could be worth hanging onto reina after the che game if wanted to avoid using a transfer, who’s your sub goalie? i’ve got either cech against liv or kirkland against villa both home, undecided yet.

  11. Pack the Ripper, I’d say hang onto Reina, he’s up against the goalscoring juggernauts of Tottenham, WBA, Bolton, and Fulham after Chelsea and Portsmouth. Although a look at Cech’s fixtures (I assume you don’t have 3 Chelsea players) may entice you to swap Reina for Cech: Liverpool, then Hull, Sunderland, Blackburn, West Brom, Newcastle. Not a bad time to have a top four goalie, and if you’ve also got Kirkland, you’re laughing.

  12. whos the best midfielder for 6.7? I have ireland at the moment but considering transferring him as i also have Kompany and SWP. Im tempted to go for kranjar

  13. or maybe osman? i already have geonvanni aswell

  14. I agree with putting your eggs in one basket but then there are some clubs who break that rule.

If you have 2 defenders from United and 2 from chelsea then you know more often then not you will get the cleanies.

Any updates on Carvalho? I have the same problem where I am looking to replace Clichy with him but I also have Evra so wanna see if Carvalho is on course for sun before I take a risk on bringing him in with Evra maybe missing sat.

  15. All the stats I produce to select my team suggest that clean sheets from any team this coming week are more unlikely than usual. I rate teams as Red, Amber or Green based on their clean sheet ability and no teams are rated as Green for Gameweek 9. Therefore, I will be using my transfer to improve my Midfield / Forward line.

Interesting you say that, in my database Portsmouth do come top of the defensive stats this week. However, they are not in the top echelon so I was going to focus my attention on my Midfield this week. Man City will probably shut Stoke out but the stats are saying it’s unlikely due to Stoke’s scoring record since joining the the Prem. I admit it is only based on 8 games and not a big enough sample so yeah you are probably right. They are only stats afterall, it all comes down to interpretation.

  16. My current back 5’s Bosingwa, Laursen, Fig, Kompany, Ricketts.

Should I sell Cech for VDS and then Laursen for Agger?

Thinking of bringing in Traore or Dawson for Ricketts.
