Evra Will Return. Rio…Maybe
Sir Alex has reassured Evra owners that the left back will return to the United lineup for the weekend clash with Everton. He was a little more uncertain when it comes to Rio Ferdinand’s chances though.
Evra missed the Champions League clash with Celtic last night with a hamstring injury, while Ferdinand missed the game after picking up “slight” groin injury in preparations earlier in the day.
“I think Evra will be okay and we’ll see about Rio,” remarked Ferguson today. “He suffered a little groin strain in training on Monday and it wasn’t worth risking him.”

great, this could mean brown gets a run out!

Excellent news! I also have Alex so wondering about Carv.
I think Chelski will keep a clean V Liverpool this weekend

When’s Johnson back for City? I read that he declared himself fit. I think he’s sorely missed and the team will be more consistent with his return. Not going to have in my team, but think their defence will benefit.

Mark with all this debate about defenders (lots of injuries across the back lines of big clubs and fpl-crushing rotation) how do you feel about playing a minimal amount of defenders in favour of playing more in midfield or up front even if they are not top-dogs? I was going to switch Upson for Traore (should have done this a long time ago) but then considered I could switch Upson for a rubbish defender and bring in an extra 5.6 mil midfielder instead (Geovanni/Reo-Coker etc). In the long-term is packing a midfield with slightly average players better than having slightly average defenders?? I’m no panicker, just thought there must be a debate to be had about formations and by jove let’s have one

A defender gets 2 points for 90, 4 for not conceding, 6 for a goal.
A midfielder gets 2 points for 90, 1 for not conceeding, 5 for a goal.
On paper then it would seem having an attacking minded defender like Traore would be the better bet, especially if they’re in a half decent team that might grab clean sheets
Then again, I just had a look at the points thus far and 5.6ish midfielders are getting more points than the likes of Traore.
FPL = Grass is always greener on the other side

Yes, the bigger points seem to be coming from midfielders and forwards (forwards in particular), so it looks more sensible to be using most of your money there to make sure you have the big points scorers in your team.

The thing is i need that 0.1 to upgrade my team, so effectively i would have to get somebody at 4.5 or below… I think il keep an eye out for Kim do heon and felipe texiera

Even though Evra gets forward and flies down the wing, he doesn’t get goals and assists like he should. Watch Aston Villa on corner kicks and Laursen is the biggest threat on the pitch.
[Reply]
Who cares? He’s not in the team for his goals but his clean sheets.
How can you predict how many goals or bonus points larson will get?
[Reply]
I’ve got a problem,my team is :
VDS
bosingwa garrido traore (dawson,paintsil)
Ronaldo Lamps A.Young SWP (Teixeira)
Zaki c.cole carew (0.9 in the bank)
im thinking… vds—>kirkland
swp—>ireland/diaby/nasri/kranjcar(when fit)
c.cole—>berbs/ade/defoe/roninho
If you disagree pls tell me who and why i should buy them (should i drop ronny)
[Reply]
Laursen is good for 6-8 goals a year with about 20 ponus points. He was the MOTM more than any defender last year. Evra had less points last year than many defenders who had less team clean sheets than Man U and he played over 2,800 minutes.

ROONEY OR TORRES? LONG TERM
[Reply]
Reply by Fred on October 22 5:36 pm:
Rooney will get you 14-15 goals with 10-11 assists and Torres will get you around 30 goals. Both will get over 20 bonus points. Rooney may be rotated in favor of Tevaz from time to time whereas Torres will play every game.

I have 12.8m to buy two defenders,
I already have Boswinga and Traore.
I want a big impact defender for this weekend and another for next weekend
Who would you go with
i am thinking about
Laursen-but all my opponents have him, Ferdinand,Vidic,Evra,Carvalho but would considrr any other big defender. I will probably make Agger the buy for next week.
Who is best????

I’d say Rooney over Torres (just). He won’t score as many, but is always going to be involved in the best moves and so will get plenty of assists

In the Guardian game the next two league matches count for one gameweek, and there are no autosubs. Having a nightmare trying to come up with a team of players who’ll play BOTH matches. Particularly worried about Curtis Davies (Villa), Denilson and Ronaldo, who would all normally be in my starting linuep. Any advice over whether to bench any of these??

Not too much difference between Ferdinand, vidic,Evra,Carv. All going to be good for clean sheets. Personally I’d opt for Carv-as long as hes back

Hi,
In an earlier post someone said that you would be able to view the Man United team at 11:15 on saturday (There match kicks off at 12:00) before the deadline closes on FPL at 11:30. Can anyone tell me where I would be able to view the team? Might help to decide on Evra or not and a certain Captain decsion as well.
Thanks !!!

Virgin post for me!
First things first, thanks Mark- fantastic site; really enjoy the posts over my weekday sarnies.
For this week’s tranfers I’m thinking of either (or both) of the following;
Clichy –> A.Traore (Arsenal just not getting the cleanies)
A.Young –> Ireland (City fixtures, form & price)
These’ll free up cash for
Derbyshire –>Sulky BBT (in time for G/W 10)
Don’t want to drop Young but really fancy a Man City midfield over next few weeks.
Current team:
Chech (Schwarzer)
Bosingwa - Evra - Figueroa - Clichy - (Paintsil)
Young - Marney - Lampard - Ronaldo - (Geovanni)
Defoe - Zaki - (Derbyshire)
Any advice/opinions appreciated.

Hi Yankee. I like the look of your team.
If I were you I woud keep hold of Clichy. Yes, Arsenal aren’t keeping a lot of clean sheets, but they have as good a chance as any in the next three games. He is due his assist too.
If you do sell him for Traore, i’d be inclined to bring in Ireland for Marney or Geovanni. I’m not of Berbatov consistency at Man Utd yet. Don’t let Fran hypnotise you about him. Play the wait and see game with him. If he continues to score points, then bring him in. I just don’t see any consistency with Rooney, Berbatov and Tevez taking points off each other.

Cheers Fabtastic - Last couple of weeks I’ve given Clichy ‘one more g/w’ & now his time is up. Can’t believe I didn’t realise that I get Ireland and keep Young though (yippeee).
Now it’s a matter of Marney or Geovanni. My head (based on stats & NTI) says keep Geovanni but my heart says keep Marney; watching the games it looks like he’s a trier. Guess I’ll toss a coin & hope Ireland gets my 4 points back!
I’m not sold on BBT either yet, but I was lining up the funds for a g/w 10 buy-in if form this w/e looks good.
[Reply]
I can see Tevez stepping out on the pitch with Berbs in the stands at some point. Tevez, Rooney, and Berbs will be rotated with all three playing together in some games.
[Reply]
Carvalho is playing now so he is a cert for Sunday.
[Reply]
Does anyone think i should keep faith in Jo (who has looked awful over recent weeks) or ship him out? Thoughts Please

Defoe is a much better alternative if you can afford him.

Reply by CK on October 22 8:48 pm:
I actually think you should stick with him, I reckon goals will come. He has got some great providers around him and plays as the front man on a very exciting team. Defoe is on fire, Jo is not… I have a feeling that could change!
[Reply]
Hmm, I need some help guys. I’ve been thinking to shift bebatov in my team, but I’m not sure who to drop.

Hi guys, thoughts on my team appreciatd for my next dilemma,
Cech
Bosingwa, Wheater, Figueroa, Cahill, Traore
SWP, Ronaldo, Lamps, Arteta, Geovanni
Zaki, Cole, Defoe
Not sure who to bench this week, which one should I play from Cole, Arteta, Fig or Cahill?
thinking of getting in Berbatov, Ethrington Or Diaby & Garrido for Wheater, C.Cole, SWP in coming weeks….??!! what ya reckon.
[Reply]
Reply by CK on October 22 9:47 pm:
Good team mate but your weakness is clearly your defence. Wheater gotta go, Boro are poor. I would play Arteta, downgrade SWP to Mattie Taylor and use the cash to take in Evra for Wheater
[Reply]
Reply by vicsta on October 22 10:51 pm:
no way that I would get rid of SWP - he’s got some great fixtures coming up. Probably better to do take out Arteta, e.g. bring in Ireland - that might give you options elsewhere
[Reply]
Hi all, would anyone have any thoughts on my team - currently very unsure about what moves would be best to make.
Almunia, Schwarzer
Garrido, Traore, Bosingwa, Baines, Figueroa
Ronaldo, Lampard, Young, Bullard, Delap
Berbatov, Zamora, Cole
I think the weakest links are Almunia and Cole.
Would like to get in Rooney but probably won’t since I’ve already got Berbatov.
The only options I’ve managed to think of are:
1 - Almunia to VDS or Hart (but these don’t seem like urgent moves)
2 - Downgrade Ronaldo to Wright-Phillips - just enough to upgrade Cole to Rooney (But then that would be a twin Man Utd attack - not sure how wise that is)
What would you suggest?
[Reply]
Reply by vicsta on October 22 11:06 pm:
Current plan: Ronaldo to SWP, Cole to Rooney - which would leave 1.0 free. (maybe even upgrade Schwarzer) Yes, sacrificing points and yes, twin MU attack. If Man Utd’s going to score, it’s going to happen with Berbatov and Rooney.
