Alex To Profit From Carvalho Blow
Chelsea have lost Ricardo Carvalho for a minimum of three weeks according to Scolari.
The centre back hobbled off in last night’s win at Hull, clutching the back of his thigh. The injury, the latest in a line of niggling knocks for Carvalho, is now set to rule him out of Chelsea’s forthcoming Premiership matches against Sunderland, Blackburn and West Brom at the very least.
With all three looking prime fixtures to help add to Chelsea’s clean sheet count, this injury once again makes Alex a quality short term target for fantasy managers…
Alex is a mid-price option across the fantasy games but will surely be a certain starter in Carvalho’s absence. He notched a pair of clean sheets whilst filling the void earlier this season and is now set to extend his points tally. With Alex currently available for 5.6, those FPL managers without the allotted three Chelsea players in their squad, surely need look no further for a defensive purchase for the weekend.

Did Ivanovic not play there also?

Yes but Ivanovic was the player subbed on last night.
I will probably still pick up Alex as I had mt heart set on Carvalho this week, but I wish it did not feel like I was gambling.

Ivanovic was subbed for Bosingwa before Carvalho was injured. I’m not sure I would read too much into that.
[Reply]
Worth swapping Bosingwa out? Probably not. Getting rid of Cech? Nah. And Fat Frank is staying put.
BTW Mark, I bet if you single out a player to suggest, I bet his price goes up as a direct result. Therefore, you could easily make a really valuable team. Conversely, you could say “Sell Ronaldo, he’s rubbish”, then pick him up as a bargain

Reply by Dimitrije on October 30 2:37 pm:
I was thinking of swapping Clichy for Bosingwa but now, Alex might be worth while, then again, in 3 weeks, when Carvalho returns, I will need to change him for Bosingwa, which means one free transfer down the toilet, and with my side in need of major overhaul, in preparation for Ronaldo, i think that wasted week is not a good thing.

I’ve the same trio - Lamps, Cech and Boswinga…shame, I like a bargain.
Oh to have that kind of power on FPL prices…power leads to corruption, I’d never go there

Mark, you and I had a brief altercation over the Alex/Ivanovic scenario about 2 weeks ago. Not sure if you remember? I stuck with him then and still have!!!! Since then I’ve only made 1 transfer per week and I’ve kept Alex on the bench the past 2 gameweeks while making more “productive” changes elsewhere… My change for this week was due to be Alex out for Carv! This injury is fantastic news for me. Allow’s me another 1m to spend and I can upgrade elsewhere now. And I’ve a sneking incling for an Alex goal in the near future!
I want to sell either Zamora or SWP or BOTH! I have 1.3 in the bank and was thinking of Modric and Carew for the above 2.
I already have:
Reina, alex, A Traroe, Evra, Wheater, (Figuroa)
Ronaldo, A Young, SWP, Cahill, (Marney)
Zaki, Defoe, (Zamora).
What do you think, or are you reluctant to give out personalised individual advice as such?!?

just got rid of Cesc the Pathetic
for
Ronaldo the Intense
Cech
Evra, Bosingwa, Traore
Lampard, Ireland, Delap, Ronaldo, Young
Zaki, Defoe
Garrido, Figs, Zamora, Schwarzer
I feel my team may be too strong now?
0.5 in the bank

Actually, I just got Alex for Clichy, Next week Arteta will be leaving my side for someone 2.8mil+ cheaper, therefore making possible for A. Young to become Ronaldo, and the pts will be rolling… or not, anyway I’m not that sorry to see Arteta go, he has been disappointing of late, but I do like A. Young

I did the same. Today I’ve brought in Alex for Carv - what a waste of 4 points. Fancy Alex for a cleanie and a goal though.

Alex could possibly drop in value before Saturday. However unlikely this is, I’d wait until Saturday morning before making any Alex orientated transfers.

Howard looks like a decent replacement, but I’m keeping him for the Hull game at the very least.
Who was your sub goalie? Mine was Turnbull

Marney or Delap?
[Reply]
Reply by Croublade on October 30 3:31 pm:
Delap. Marney’s form might diminish if Hull stops their wonder streak. Delap’s income has been coming despite poor performances.

Despite a 16pt haul last night, C Ron is currently only 16% of the way to going up £0.1m. Presumably there are a limited number of teams that can afford him. Does anyone think that this will cause a ceiling on C Ron’s price which will stop him from going beyond say about £14.6m (currently priced at £14.3)??
[Reply]
Definitely going to drop Carvalho for Evra or A Cole or Arbaloa
BUT
Will Carew start ever again or should I spend four points cashing him in for Agbonlahor?????
[Reply]
Reply by Gogi on October 30 3:15 pm:
Sorry-should add that Agbonlahor is about to go up and will then be just unaffordable for me so I need to act now if I am willing to lose 4 points or unless you can convince me to stick with Carew
[Reply]
Reply by Jimi on October 30 3:19 pm:
carew and gabby will start soon.
MON said that he needs to start rotating players, so he’ll prob switch between 4-4-2 and 4-5-1 and bring in some diff midfielders and defenders.
but harewood is never going to start a game, so carew and gabby will be safe as long as its 4-4-2
[Reply]
Reply by Gogi on October 30 3:30 pm:
Still worried that Carew is only getting half a game-surely Agbonlahor will always start so worth 4 points to get extra points long term methinks???????
Any view on best of A Cole-Evra or Abeloa until Carvalho returns?????
[Reply]
Ive got VDS/turnbull so was very happy that VDS didn’t play this Gameweek. However, all those Cech owners, why don’t you put Reina in due to better fixtures and similar save/clean sheet count. Then you can get Alex in?

Im keeping Carew, cant be bothered spending 4 points when it could be the wrong decision. I think there’s a pretty good chance that Carew will still score on Monday against Newcastle

Same, big John has 2 weeks left to impress or he’s out!
[Reply]
Reply by Tresco on October 30 5:10 pm:
Keep him in - he played 30 minutes on Saturday and grabbed a goal and an assist. When you start subbing players out you’re always going to be losing money overall as it will cost comparatively more to get them back him.
Spurs to cause an upset at White Hart Lane? Certainly puts a doubt in my mind about Liverpool’s ‘almost guaranteed’ clean sheet this Saturday.
[Reply]
Reply by Jono on October 30 5:33 pm:
Yeah I know I made the mistake with Defoe previously having taken him out only to bring him back think I’m just taking my frustration out on Carew and MON as I had him as captain this last gw over Lamp and C.Ron crazy I know!
[Reply]
Gogi - looking at A Cole or Evra definately.. not convinced with Alex as Ivanovic seemed to handle his own pretty well.. Have I missed the bosingwa train?
[Reply]
Yeah
Same position on Carew-Is it worth upgrading to a more reliable Agbonlahor who always plays?
I can’t decide between Evra or Arbeloa
Any ideas folks?
[Reply]
Reply by Carlos on October 30 3:44 pm:
Evra definately. Less risk of rotation. More chance of an assist and Utd will still keep more clean sheets than pool between now and May. IMO anyway!
[Reply]
Reply by Leighton on October 30 3:49 pm:
Evra and Arbeloa are popular transfers in by the look of the Crack the Code site. Evra gets forward and United should get a clean sheet on Saturday. I have slightly less confidence in the Pool cleansheet after watching Spurs score 6 goals in the last two games but beyond that Liverpool’s fixtures look easier.
I chanced Agger only to see him be dropped but he’s a certain starter for Saturday.

I’m not sure about Alex. If I swap Carvalho for him I’ll get 1 mil to spend elsewhere, but I’ll be wanting Carvalho back at some point so some careful planning will be required if I choose to do this.
[Reply]
Reply by Carlos on October 30 4:46 pm:
Carv could quite easily miss 4 prem games in a row. Just do the transfer. Cross the other bridge when you come to it - because even if you have a set plan - there are too many variables to take into account. In the 4 game period you have Alex anything could happen. Lamoard or Ronaldo could get injured and that again changes things..

Reply by EddieRooo on October 30 7:53 pm:
why would alex’s price drop?
[Reply]
Reply by Ronaldo Lover on October 30 8:34 pm:
Crack the code has him at 78% at the moment and I bet there will still be plenty of stupid people who will ship him out. So it is possible that his price might drop to 5.5 by Saturday.

whats everyones thoughts on defoe? although pompey have some nice fixtures, Tony Adams’ comments last night (something about building a team for next season) concern me. So i’ve been considering my options.
If I get rid of defoe I could bring in Modric & Alex into this lot:
Reina, (Schwarzer)
Bosingwa, Evra, Troare, Painstil, (Figueroa)
Ronaldo, Lampard, Young, (Marney) (Mullins)
Defoe, Zaki, Robinho
