Bent Rises As Carew Doubts Grow
It looks as though John Carew’s chances of making the Arsenal game are reducing by the day. Having had a scan earlier this week, Villa have announced today that the big striker is a major doubt for the Emirates trip with back and thigh injuries.
That kind of news will surely only add to the speeding Darren Bent bandwagon that’s leading to a rapid rise in his FPL price…
While Martin O’Neill revealed that injured pair Petrov and Luke Young were to return to training ahead of the weekend, the news on Carew was far less positive.
“John is really struggling at the moment,” revealed the Villa boss.
“The discomfort seems to have moved from his back to the front thigh area…He had scans yesterday that have come up pretty decently. He is going for tests now with the specialist. We will see accordingly.”
Carew is currently owned by around 160,000 managers in the Fantasy Premier League game. With Darren Bent tempting Carew owners with red hot form and a similar price bracket, we can surely expect more sales and Bent purchases in the coming days. Carew has been sold by 20,000 FPL managers this week and with United to follow the Arsenal fixture, there are surely more to come.
In contrast, Bent is currently on the verge of his second price rise of the week. The message is clear then: if you’re a Carew owner hovering over the “sell for Bent” button, hesitation may cost you.

Very many congratulations on being 1st.
I’n not sure where the love-in with Bent comes from. Harry’s playing Modric behind the one up front. Is Redknapp really going to choose Bent over Pavlyuchenko every week? Granted he’s playing very well at the moment, but I can’t see DB playing 90 minutes every game.

Reply by Steve on November 11 8:50 pm:
Good point Dave, but i think part of the skill in this game is getting the guys who are in form and then selling them at a profit to get the next guy who is in form. Bent is in form without doubt and Harry surely must play him. Spurs have a great run of games until Man U. At that point look to sell Bent for the next guy who is in form and has a decent run. Perhaps Carew will be fit, Villa will have their tricky games out of the way and you can sell Bent for a profit and buy Carew for less than he is now?

Reply by Steve on November 11 8:51 pm:
and if i remember correctly he’s got decent points in the games where he’s come on for the last 20 mins? Certainly more points than i got from Carew who played more minutes.

What is all this talk of Modric? Surely if you arn’t going for Bent then Bentley is the next best thing. If I remember correctly Modric is yet to score so far this season and often gets subbed for Lennon. Ok, Bentley has 1 goal to his name but plays the full 90mins and he is usually good for assists, as he is the regular free kick and corner taker. Ive got both Bentley and Bent in my team at present.
[Reply]
Carew for Bentner, free up some cash! Bentner over bent for this week….if bentner plays that is.
[Reply]
Reply by Ibracadabra on November 11 9:14 pm:
Looks like Bendtner will be the focal point Saturday… judging by Arsene’s team selection today. He didn’t even make the squad for the Carling Cup and is surely being rested for the Villa clash. He should pick up a goal or assist against the shaky Villa back line.

Very true Steve, you can make a few quid that way as well.
The other thing about Bent is that there is no-one around 7m who’s doing anything at the moment - Zaki’s gone AWOL, Carew seems a bit off at the moment and there aren’t too many other options.
[Reply]
Reply by Grogfather on November 11 9:29 pm:
Zaki hasn’t exactly gone AWOL, he scored 2 games ago and has scored in 6 out of 12 games.
You could say he has only scored 1 goal in his last 4 games, but conversely you could say he has scored 3 goals in his last 5 (sounds much better for us Zaki owners). It will happen to all strikers throughout the year that they miss scoring goals for a few games. Zaki will be fine

I’ve already had a 4 point hit this week, bringing in Nasri and Kuyt for SWP and Arteta, before the former 2 went up and the latter 2 went down. Is it worth another 4 point hit to change Carew for Bent?
[Reply]
Reply by Sparky on November 11 9:08 pm:
Carew wont be playing so depends who else you’ve got. You’ll drop 2 points on Carew anyway the way I see it.
[Reply]
Reply by Timbo on November 11 9:10 pm:
My team for this week is, or was going to be:
Cech
Bosingwa Agger Alex
Kuyt Nasri Ronaldo Geovanni
Carew Zaki Berbatov
Subs:
Schwarzer
Garrido
Figueroa
Lawrence
So Bent for Carew -4, or putting Garrido in and hoping he plays. Maybe the 4 point hit might be worth it…

Reply by Sparky on November 11 9:20 pm:
You’re basically betting that Bent will play and get at least an assist. Ave bookmaker odds on him scoring are 7/4. On current form I’d say it’s worth it, but only just.

Reply by Timbo on November 11 10:17 pm:
Yeah I think I’ll go for it. This game is all about the gambling.
[Reply]
Wow.. Vela is pure quality. Surely Wengner must hand him a start at some point while RVP and Ade are out.
[Reply]
Depends. You missed the first rise, and Bent’s second rise is just over the hill so if you want to gamble on making some cash, now’s your only real chance left (providing he gets 2-3 points this week :P). If you want to play garrido, then your back up is fig, which I reckon is about 40/60 chance of clean sheet.
[Reply]
Did anyone see the goal Carlos Vela just scored for Arsenal!?
Come on Arsene, give the kid a chance while you are short on strikers. He’s worth 5.9 in FPL and if that is anything to go by, he will make an impact at some point this season.
Sublime.
[Reply]
This Second Arsenal team could theretically beat any team in the league including challenging the top four if they can continue to play like this. That Carlos Vela is alost WORLD CLASS - why doesn’t he play for their first team - far better than Bendtner?

Personally I think it’s worth it, as long as you use the 1.5 extra in the bank to significantly upgrade a “weaker” spot in the team (for example upgrading from Bolton’s GK Jussi to say Liverpool’s Papa) etc.

Neville and R D-Silva palyed tonight. Is Brown fit? (CLearly, i mean that in a ‘match-fit’ sense, no-one in their right minds could describe dear old Wes as ‘fit’).

Fab ain’t THAT good a set piece taker, there’s a reason why he’s a 2nd choice kicker. So no from me, I’d captain someone else.

Thinking of a cheeky play of subbing AYoung out for Diaby - given the successful formation Wenger used last time round, Diaby could profit from playing off the lone striker. Thoughts?
[Reply]
Reply by Ibracadabra on November 11 10:51 pm:
If you don’t have to go - 4, then that sounds OK. But Diaby is far from guaranteed a full time spot when RvP / Adebayor return.

Kranjcar for me. No Question asked. However his return in FPL will depend on where Adams starts playing him on a regular basis once Traore and Bel situation is sorted out. If he is pushed wide so so, but if he is pushed in or up….watch out.

I know no one can know, but i’m curious as to the debate. Its basically a coin flip but what is your input. I asked this earlier but here it is again. Defense vs. MF.
Each pair costs the same. Which pair will garnish more points in the long haul in your opinions. Mar and Paintsill would each be the 4th rotated MF and Defender respectively.
Marney and Carvahlo (once fit)
or
Modric and Paintsil (or other 4.1 Defender)
[Reply]
Reply by Dr. Rog on November 11 11:15 pm:
modric and paintsil easily
carvalho is injury prone atm so i expect his season to be worth around 120 max. fulham are tight at the back and paintsil crosses a lot so you could be looking at around 90 i’d say for him
modric i reckon will fly under arry and get 150ish whilst marney plays for HULL, yes hull. 80pts max
The fact is you are choosing between modric and carvalho - modric will score more imo given his scoring record and recent performances… and i would rather have paintsil than marney as my sub
so you are quids in either way… (financially that combo will perform better too)
[Reply]
Reply by Will on November 12 2:09 am:
I agree with the good doctor on Modric and Paintsil. But Marney has 42 pts already, unless his pts per game drops from 3.8 to under 1.5 he’s going to exceed 80pts this season…

Mark, you made me do it. Carew –> Bent
Not a brilliant week in the transfer market for me.. Bring in Carew, lost 0.1 on him whilst Bent goes up 0.1.. Whilst Downing remains deadwood; here’s hoping he produces against Bolton (h) and Newcastle (h), understandably, I’m not holding my breath..

And instantly I’m regretting not putting Bendtner vs Villa (h) and then possibly Fuller vs WBA (h) and Hull (h)..

I really hope Fabregas doesn’t find form without RVP there because I was so patiant with him for 3 months and finally got rid of him before he scored 7 points !
