Zaki Doubt For Toon Trip
Amr Zaki needs a goal, both to help lift Wigan and to help repair his reputation with fantasy managers. Sadly, there are doubts as to whether that goal will come this weekend as it’s been revealed the Egyptian is carrying a number of knocks, in addition to suffering from flu.
According to statements from his “personal advisor” the Wigan striker took the field against Arsenal with flu and then went on to suffer a bang on the ribs. He’s also still carrying the after effects of a calf injury….
I’m not sure what to make of this. The cynic in me says that this is the Zaki camp providing some excuses for the recent lack of form which has seen his goals dry up and Wigan struggling.
It baffles me as to why Bruce would select a “sick” Zaki against Arsenal with Camara available and the knowledge that his side would be facing the Gunners youngsters. With Wigan floundering for league points, I’d be surprised if Bruce would jeopardise having Zaki available at St James’ Park this weekend by putting the Carling Cup tie with Arsenal first.
Today we got more details on the possible Zaki deal involving his Egyptian club Zamalek who are insisting that they will be looking for the “highest bid for the player”. Zaki’s “personal assistant” is likely to making more than one appearance in the coming months then as potential deals for the striker are discussed. A bad run of form is certainly not in the script for either the player or Zamalek.
I’ll keep my ear to the ground but right now, we have to consider Zaki a doubt going into the weekend.

The Guardian player value changes have been very erratic, so far they haven’t affected any of my transfers but there’s the potential for serious irritation here. Guardian is odd though. The sarting proces appear to fit the FPL scoring potential, but the actual scoring potential favours defenders playing against the big 4 not for them. Scott Carson is the top scoring keepers, and West Brom defence is like a sieve.

Zaki seems to be going into every week with an injury… Not sure how much truth is in it, like you say mark, if Zaki were ill during the week with flu, I can’t see why Bruce would field him against Arsenal’s youth team in the carling cup when they’re in the position they are in in the league right now.
[Reply]
I hope he doesn’t play, for I have been awaiting the opportunity to unleash the full goalscoring might of Bobby Zamora upon my mini-league rivals. Tremble you all. Tremble!

Hey all,
Im currently top of my mini league, but I need some help to help stop my team from becoming stagnent. This gameweek my prove to be a bad one for my defence… I have used up my free transfer to bring in Bent, but im willing to lose 8 points for good players.. Impact for this week and the next few weeks. Team:
Jaaskelainen
Schwarzer
Figueroa
Dawson
Wheater
Traore A
Hangeland
Ronaldo
Lampard
Bentley
Young A
De Ridder
Bent
Zaki
I have ideas about bringing in Saha for Zaki, i highly rate Saha when fit. Krancjer for Young?.. and a decent top 3 team defender.. maybe Alex?… if fit.. AHH help! Best bets for this gw?

[Reply]
Reply by Team d2b. on November 13 10:00 pm:
I’m not set on Saha just yet, he’s potential to score good points, but needs to do more, more consistantly for me. Plus I’m not sure just how set in stone things are up Goodison park yet. Bent from the same price bracket is an option? Certainly has the form and a nice run of fixtures. As long as he keeps netting goals, he surely can’t be dropped by wor harry just yet. However, im not telling you to do anything here, I’m not saying getting Saha is wrong, just merely offering an opinion
And as for the Agger/Aurelio question, personally I’d stick with Agger, or if not, Carragher, guarenteed to play, longer term, which is definately something I think you need, what with having no top 4 defenders at all.

Nothing personal, but if it has been working, it won’t last, unless of course the standard of the other teams in your league is poor? Basically, you won’t get near the top Overall teams having no top 4 defenders all season (even having only 1/2 from the top 4 is still deemed highly risky, most of the higher ranked teams will usually have 3/4, I’m including goalkeepers here of course). But credit to you if it’s worked so far.

Hello Team d2b, I remember you’re a Sunderland fan, any idea what’s going on with Craig Gordon? It seems he’s always almost ready to come back, but he never quite makes it. I don’t want to ditch him because I rate him as a ‘keeper and I need at least one Scotsman in my team. Believe it or not I’ve still got Nosworthy as well ( I know you don’t rate him much) and he played for my side at the weekend and did okay. Who would you rate the best defender at the club?

I’m not sure on the craig gordon front, suggestions are that he may be 50/50 for the game at the weekend, so if he doesn’t make this gameweek, he should at least be back for the next. And best defender at the club, IMO, George McCartney. Our most consistant defender, not sure on his attacking return in fantasy games though, but then again, none of our defenders particularly jump out as having decent potential attacking returns..

indeed, what is it all about? I think indecision is the answer. I’m not going to offload Zaki yet as the next 3 fixtures look ok (and for 6.6m, i won’t find better). I fancy that a decent alternative will emerge from the pack but at the moment it’s too difficult to tell who it will be.
I think people just get bored having the same players for a long time and use any excuse to justify getting rid.
[Reply]
Reply by Will on November 14 1:35 am:
nah, not indecision, all it means is that he was most of the way towards doing a double price rise the previous gameweek (30,000 of 40,000 approx) which meant that when the NTI targets were reset on saturday he was around 30,000 out of the approx 20,000 needed for a price rise this gameweek.
So he went up saturday night because he was already over the necessary limit, but at the same time loads of people were offloading him after a 2pt gameweek. So 30,000 odd transfer him out…and he goes back down.

Question for the (Liverpool) scousers out there. What will be the back four be when everyone is fit. A mate of mine told me that Arbeloa’s days are numbered when Skrtel is fit, but aside from his one match ban, I can’t see it. What do you guys think??
Usual fandango, here’s my sh*t:
Reina
Figueroa, Turner, Bosingwa,
Nasri, Geovanni, Ronaldo (C), Lampard
Zaki, Defoe, Bent
Schwarzer
Delap
Arbeloa
Traore A
[Reply]
I think the back four when everyone is fit will be Arbeloa, Carragher, Skrtel, and Aurelio.
Dossena is being given a chance to settle in, an Italian international, but his form will really need to improve.
[Reply]
Arbeloa plays right back. Only person who’ll be worrying about their spot once Skrtel’s back is Agger, and rightly so. I don’t really rate Agger to be honest. Okay, he can get forward and throw himself around in front of the opposition goal, but for solid no nonsence defending Rafa will be pairing Carragher and Skrtel.
[Reply]
arbeloa does face some competition in the way of degen, i’d monitor that.

Reply by Stion on November 14 11:14 am:
Degen is a massive load of utter pish. So is Dossena. Arbeloa is quite a good all rounder (and underrated by the pundits imho) and Aurelio is decent going forward. That pretty much sums up the Liverpool side back situation. Rafa seems to have a bit of a blind spot when it comes to signing side backs.
[Reply]
Reply by Anorak on November 14 6:04 pm:
Yep, Degen and Dossena were both awful in the cup.
But Rafa paid hefty fees for both in the summer, so I don’t he was intending them as back up. Can’t see them making the first choice, but makes Rafa look a bit silly if they’re not good enough.
Maybe he’ll need to justify their purchase with minutes, and hope a string of performances saves his blushes.

who for goalie this week? jaaskelainen or schwarzer?
also looking at some transfers after this GW, team is:
jaask schwarzer
bosingwa, arbeloa bel hadj mendy pele
lamp ron ireland giovanni delap
bent berbatov zaki
with .7
Options look like
1. i’m thinking either upgrade both mendy and pele to decent point getters at around 4.3. top 3 b/w bel hadj & these two. for 3-4-3
2. upgrade ireland to modric
3. swap pele out for jagielka
4. really considering downgrading ireland to butt perhaps? this will give me enough cash to get reina in for jaask…
what do you think looks best? or if anyone can think of a better option that’d be appreciated.

L young, Bosingwa, Pantsil
Ronaldo (C) Lamps Ireland Geovanni
Berbatov Defoe Zaki(or Bent/Saha)
What do you think? I am looking to take no points!
[Reply]
Reply by carpyfish on November 14 9:58 am:
My thinking about Bent is that he is a low-risk signing. He’s scored 11 goals in 11 starts and Pav is at the END of the Russian season so he’s probably knacked. Also Spurs may play 4-4-2 some home games.
Importantly there are many decent strikers similarly priced to Bent. So you can easily replace him if he becomes a perma-sub.
[Reply]
Mark, mate absence of Alex in your injuries and bans section is the only thing giving me hope he’ll play, I need those 6pts, and have no money to swap him for someone good… Plus with Zaki worries and Chance of Adebayor starting instead of Bendtner…
Do you think Etherington will start for WHU? I might go with a 3-4-3
Jagelka,Vidic,Ager(Alex,Traore)
Ronaldo,Etherington,Lamps,Marney(Delap)
Zaki,Bendtner,Defoe
[Reply]
Zaki has only scored one goal at home. After Newcastle away he has 4 home games plus Arsenal away. It could be a good time to bring in Bent or Saha. Transfer dilemna.
Going into the last gameweek it all looked straightforward. A Young was getting his last chance to prove his worth. If he failed then it was an easy swap for Bentley this week.
Since then, Arbeloa got himself suspended, Pienaar didn’t play last week and is a doubt, and now Zaki’s a doubt too.
My team at present:
Schwarzer, (Jaaskaleinen)
Evra, Bosingwa, Zayatte (Paintsil, Arbeloa)
Ronaldo, Lamps, A Young, Malouda, Pienaar
Crouch, Zaki (Windass)
£0.2 in the bank
Do I:
1. Make the Young >> Bentley transfer as planned and hope that either Zaki or Pienaar will make it. This would also be relying on unlikely points from Zayatte and Paintsil.
2. Arbeloa >> Agger. This seems daft for the sake of 1 week since I’ve owned Arbeloa from £6.0m. Also reliant on out of form Young and Pienaar/Zaki for points.
3. Both of the above, taking a 4 pt hit?

I checked on the offical CFC Chelsea forums in the “Chelsea vs West Brom Match Threat” and everyone was posting their own line ups for the games and none of them had Alex in, so I assume he is probably injured.
Although no “offical” news from any sites yet, so don’t transfer him out yet!

So far this is nothing more than rumour. We will find out soon enough if it is true. Until then it remains nothing more.

Qubit you could challenge Fran for his awards of ‘pointing out the bleeding obvious’ nice work!

I definitley saw it on the sky sports ticker last night. “Alex & Belleti out of West Brom game due to injury”. I’ve looked all over the web and can find no other info. I’ve already taken a 4 pt hit this week so i’ll risk leaving him in.

SWP and Arteta out
for
Bentley and Richardson
or
Modric and Kranjcar
???

A safer bet probably would be option one. Richardson is going to be a major points hauler for Sunderland I think. Whrereas Kranjcar is a bit more risky.
I do think he will fair quite well with Adams though.

I would stay away from Krankjar at the moment. He is quality but its too early to say how he will function in Adams Pompey. Why not Arteta and Modric, can you afford it ?

I have doubts over Zaki, Pienaar, Dawson and Bendtner going into this weeks games?
Reina (Turnbull)
Agger, Alex, Evra (Dawson, McShane)
Ronaldo, Lampard(c), Modric, Pienaar, Delap
Defoe, Bendtner (Zaki)
0.8 in the bank
Any thoughts for my transfer this weekend?
Thanks guys.

How about Carrick for a shout tomorrow at Stoke? Hes bound to keep his place and may be a cheap midfielder for the short term?
