The Scout Is Twittering

by Mark on June 29

Keen eyes will have spotted the latest addition to the site – we now have a Twitter service up and running, with a feed in the middle column. I’ll be using Twitter to bring you short sharp bursts of news from now on and this will eventually replace the ‘From the Net’ section. I say “I” but actually, in the main, this will be maintained by one of the new site contributors. More on that soon.

Potentially, this could play a vital part in the fantasy manager’s armoury. We’ll be working to “tweet” the very latest team news on Fridays and Saturday mornings and Vodaphone users can even subscribe to the text service to get the updates on their mobiles. Click here for details on that.

I’ll be adding a Follow button to the site later, right now though you can set yourself up as a follower by visiting the Twitter page and clicking the Follow button (go figure).

without looking at fixtures or working out any sort of plan

players ill pick first are of the top of my head – Schwarzer/Baines/Johnson/Lampard/Gerrard/Arteta/arshavin

im going to love the no more ronaldo nonsence debate, its so much better and some free cash too i hope arshavin is a midfielder too, But gota be a little sceptical with the CL with him too …should be fun

Andy June 30 at 4:44 pm

No offence Al but that’s a very ‘obvious’ team of original picks, the midfielder’s are going to be be expensive/in everyone’s team.

And your three defenders will cost considerably more than this last season, with not the same guaranteed results.

al... June 30 at 4:57 pm

stop ruining my perfect team! :(

Bedknobs and Boomsticks June 30 at 5:04 pm

Andy’s right, that’s last season’s perfect team….

al... June 30 at 5:37 pm

yeah they were players i liked last season i didnt even look at the season coming and fixtures at all im intriguid by johnson at liverpool though and baines wont be as influential at everton, lescott will prob stay there but jagielka’ out so there you have it!

but ill still have the lamps and gerrard goin on, it was just the first players ill pick when i can start to choose my team for the new season

its the best bit u can change yer mind so much!

Bedknobs and Boomsticks June 30 at 8:38 pm

Agree with all you’ve said there really. Baines might be a touch expensive now (and Everton always seem to be pants at the start of the season), just stay clear of Scwartzer. He’s this years David James.

Marknlard June 30 at 8:44 pm

Yes, Schwarzer is not going to be as good as last season…even if he gets the same points (no chance, with Europe as well-if Fulham stay in), he’ll be at least 1.0m more expensive.

And Lescott is heavily linked with a move to Man C…

al... June 30 at 10:32 pm

shit i forgot about fulham in europe, pantsil to that

guess next seasons a whole new ball game

Just remember the headache of the captaincy! OH NO!
Which horse to back all season? Lamps or G Man?

Dick Fran Dyke June 30 at 6:45 pm

Lamps vs Gerrard – 18 prem games have alternative H/A status so could be wise to plump for the home man those times. Throw Arshavin, Torres and a couple of others in the mix it could be difficult captaincy choices this year.

pomlormak June 30 at 5:19 pm

Which Man U midfielders are likely to be ever-present or at least play most games next season? What are people’s opinions of Giggs/Scholes playing much? Do we expect Fergie to play the likes of Carrick/Anderson/Fletcher/(Nani?) much, or is there likely to be a lot of rotation like last year?? Are the new boys Benzema and Valencia worth a gamble if they are signed??

Jonny June 30 at 5:33 pm

I think the problem with the United midfield is that there’s probably going to be a fair bit of rotation, which is a risk at the sort of prices you’ll be paying. Also they’re a side where goals can come from anyone- Ronaldo aside, none of their other midfielder came away with more than 4 (Carrick- same number of goals as Vidic!) last season.
Bit early to tell until we see who gets signed, and how they look in preseason, but I’d say if anyone’s going to be worth getting it’ll be Carrick or Valencia, but as they’ll probably be around 7m or more I suspect there’ll be better prospects from the “next tier” of teams (i.e. Everton/Villa/Spurs)

pomlormak June 30 at 5:39 pm

Thanks Jonny, I was really thinking of Carrick, not for goals but for assists/bonus points now that Ronaldo’s not around. At some stage, surely Fergie’s gotta keep a regular midfield and discard Giggs and Scholes?? Struggled last season IMO (esp. Scholes) and surely can’t keep going forever??

Bedknobs and Boomsticks June 30 at 8:39 pm

Probably going to start with Carrick and switch to Fellani or someone after the absent fixtures of week 2 if things don’t look good.

Dino June 30 at 9:11 pm

carrick looks very interesting as the mom contender pulling the strings in midfield i can see some of ronny’s bonus points going his way as well as berbatovs and some of the defenders vidic or ferdinand.

He should also have a little more license to get forward due to valencia covering back more than ronny did (not hard in fairness) so could also benefit from a couple of more goals and assists.

Add to this the set piece poser and you could have a few extra assists for them. I am imagining things or has he taken the odd penalty in the past? (odd as in not very many not strange looking lol) if so we could be looking at a real steady eddie

pomlormak June 30 at 5:25 pm

Also, anybody got any tips for potential bargains next season? Or are we all playing are cards close to our chest??

pomlormak June 30 at 5:26 pm

*our*

pomlormak June 30 at 5:29 pm

And how many are gambling on Man City players??

al... June 30 at 5:39 pm

nah ill be pretty open, i like to think i make my own decisions at the end of the day rather than always follow tha bandwagons

but i wont be going near man city till i see some pre season/early season matches, maybe barry or ireland depending on prices

other than that no idea on bargains good ole berny mendy is always there

pomlormak June 30 at 5:50 pm

Like it Al. Think I’ll avoid Man City to begin with. Apparently, this new Chilean striker at West Ham is mustard, if u fancy a punt on an unknown :)

Dick Fran Dyke June 30 at 6:42 pm

He’s O.K. – not a great goalscoring record and has struggled to find his feet in Italy, but could be good value if classed as midfielder. Maybe give him a few weeks pomlormak first before deciding on that gamble.

I'm Not Marshal Foch June 30 at 5:55 pm

All mindless speculation and conjecture until the FPL publish the prices and positions of players.

Jonny June 30 at 5:58 pm

Speculation and conjecture indeed me old Focher, but I take exception at the word “mindless”- I thought about what I posted above for at least 3 seconds before writing it…

pomlormak June 30 at 6:04 pm

Foch, surely you’ve already got a pretty good picture of your squad already, regardless of prices and positions?? And one or two diamonds you don’t think others will have?? We must have DIFFERENTIALS!!

pomlormak June 30 at 6:06 pm

I’ve got one player in mind, I’ll give you a clue….. it’s not Gerrard or Lampard!!!!!

pomlormak June 30 at 6:08 pm

……… or Arshavin or Ireland or Dempsey.

pomlormak June 30 at 6:08 pm

……….. or Berbatov or Rooney.

pomlormak June 30 at 6:16 pm

……….. or Mich Davray.

Chill Pill June 30 at 6:58 pm

Lampard, Gerrard and Arshavin are a must for me, ill then be going for 2 Chelsea and 2 United defenders then will make the rest of my team up with who I can afford.

Lampard, Gerrard, Arshavin and the back 5 will not be touched for the whole season.

Dick Fran Dyke June 30 at 7:44 pm

If you could afford that it would be an interesting team to say the least. Lamps,Gerrard and Arshavin – say 40m – 2 Chelsea and Utd defenders – say 26m…Total 66m meaning you have 34m to spend on the remaining 7 players at an average of about 4.8 per player. Could prove difficult to achieve Chill Pill and also very unbalanced imo.

Evan June 30 at 8:25 pm

hahah didnt think that ine threw. How much do you think Lampard, Fabregas, orGerrard will be? 10 each?

Did Chill Pill June 30 at 8:45 pm

Did it last year mate, had Ronaldo and Lampard all year (bringing Gerrard and Arshavin in near the end to add to it) with a really strong defence.

Strikers are a waste of time IMO so will be looking at Ebanks Blake, Fuller that sort of player for upfront and then rotate them according to fixtures to get the best out of it.

My team is in my link so you’ll see that the structure pretty much stayed the same for most of it and I won most of the leagues I entered into so it worked for me but everyone is different I guess.

Keeping players I won’t touch this year, reckon there will be 8 I won’t touch and will hope the differentials will be made up by captain selection.

I'm Not Marshal Foch June 30 at 7:45 pm

I have a very good idea of my team Pommy

no doubt Lampard and Gerrard will be there, a man utd defender and either liverpool or chelsea (probably G.Johnson) Rooney will probably make it as I recon fergie will turn him into the main man. Then arteta/a.young i.e. a creative midfielder from a team challening for Europe. I hope Robinho and arshavin are put down as midfielders but i’m not holding my breath. I’m going to back man City i recon as i think they will have a good season regardless of who they get. They finished strongly. Going for two cheapo goalkeepers as well but need to decide on who. Harts probably a decent bet as one of them. Might take a punt on Doyle – i remember him bagging me a hatrick for reading against west ham three season ago. If i’ve got enough money i’ll chuck in Torres. then build the rest around it
