Things are a little quiet this morning and with a podcast to record at lunchtime, I thought I’d refresh things with a reminder that the Fantasy Premier League captain poll for gameweek 12 is live and well in your middle column.
So cast your votes and use this thread to discuss your options as per usual.

I’ve got enough £££ to afford the following (once all are fit):
Sorenson/Hart
Vermaelen Dunne Shawcross/Mears (Zubar)
Fabregas Lampard Gerrard Modric (O’hara)
C.Cole RVP (Cresswell)
I’m hoping to have this team in the next month or so, assuming all are fit.I would rotate Shawcross/Mears and Sorenson/Hart. O’hara and Zubar would be my spare subs and Cresswell would be a non-playing sub.
What do you guys think?
I think it’s nice to have a plan.
BUT, the FF gods will take this plan, bite it, then chew it and then spit it back out in tatters.
A month is a very long time in both real and fantasy football.
AB, after my first season in the FPL where I just went with the flow and finished in the top echelons of the game I started to plan things. and in the 2/3seasons since there has been a gradual decline in my results!
yes – it’s when we start using our (alleged) brains that it all goes pear shaped
I’m thinking of getting a magic 8 ball to aid the decision making process.
‘Outlook not so good’
Ha!
and then smash the 8 ball to smithereens for telling you to play 3 Wolves DF against Arsenal!!!
PS – it’s a good plan if fitness is okay for all.
Only exception would be Modric. I think he is a fantastic player, but I’m not convinced by his FF output. More likely that Defoe and others will benefit from his return.
never been a fan of 3 players from one team, but a nice team overall
Very true AB. It was a good plan, while it lasted, tho wasn’t it
LOL
it might still be….try offering up a sacrifice to the gods
Not sure about my defence for GW12.
Currently thinking of Sorensen (Hart), Collins, Faye Ab, Corluka, (Evra), (Bikey).
Am I mad to leave Evra off for Corluka, but can’t see ManU having a clean sheet, while Tot may comeback strong after last weekend. On the other hand am I exposed with 2 Stoke players?
well it doesn’t look quarenteed for clean sheets but theres a big possibility that you still may get some! they look fine leave it like that and i would rather have Corluka on over Evra so your safe enough
Tough defence decisions this week .I’m also benching ManU defender (O’Shea).
looks like Arteta will be out for even longer than expected..
http://www.football365.com/sto.....41,00.html
i think he’ll turn evertons season round when he return’s, and currently just 8.1 at the mo – potential bargain when (if) he returns
yeah hes a top class player.. hope he returns sooner rather than later..
Everton have just a ridiculous amount of injuries.
It makes you think that maybe it’s no coincidence, and they should get in some better fitness coaches. Or just do their warm-ups properly.
Liverpool lose Degan appeal..
http://www.football365.com/sto.....64,00.html
but he may only be missing the Birmingham game as he could complete the rest of his ban in reserve football..
How does he blag that? Surely everyone would do that if that was the case?
how long till aston villa vs west ham, anyone?
not til 2010…lol
I’ve got this choice;
Dempsy & O’Shea
or
Duff & Evra
Before i bring in Evra or O’Shea, i will bring in Hangeland for the double GW, then swap out Hangleland for Evra / O’shea, depending which MF i choose.
Or there is the possibility of keeping Hangleand and having O’Shea aswell, providing i choose Duff.
Though if Duff is unfit for Saturday, this all goes out the window!
I would choose duff and evra, but your best off waiting till fri night / sat morning to see who’s fit etc…
Hopefully he’ll be fit! My defence certainly needs strengthening, hopefully will have some luck this week!
do not have much to choose from, o’shea, bikey, l.bowyer or jarvis? which one would you play?
I’d bench O’Shea this week, Chelsea are likely to score!
Suffering from a Bent related confidence crisis, could do with some help! My current team;
Friedel, (Sorenson)
Song, Johnson, Dunne, (O’Shea, Carr)
O’Hara, Dunn, Fabregas, Dempsey, (Hunt)
Van Persie, Bent, Drogba
I’m tempted to ditch Johnson for Evans, Dempsy for Lampard and Bent for Zamora (leaving me with 1.7mill) or Bent for Saha (leaving me skint)
what are your thoughts, also what game weeks does the african cup cover?
why trade dempsey out before double gw? i would think many are bringing him in. not smart doubling up on defenders with evans + i have also been thinking bent for zamora but im holding on because i dont want to trade him out now just to have him do amazing again.
Anyone in Ireland watching the Utd game on TV3 last night?
Not once, but twice they mentioned that United will be in trouble on Sunday against Chelsea as Vidic is suspended. I know we don’t pay for TV3, but such incompetence really gets me annoyed. Really spoils the game when you have to listen to awful commentators. They kept coming out with all sorts of other rubbish too – Kevin Moran was the sidekick and just agreed with all the tripe coming out of the main commentators mouth (can’t remember and don’t want to know his name).
And to top it all, they have Tony Cascarino (who actually gives out a ‘Tony Award’ to his ‘player of the night’) in the studio. Martin Keown was there too – I felt so sorry for him as he actually seems clever.
Does sound a bit rubbish to me.
I actually like Cascarino in short spells of time, so as a studio panelist that is fine – though only seen him on sparing occasions. Keown can often seem quite intelligent, I agree, he comes across calm and well approached – but sometimes even with that he is an idiot and can’t remember his arse from his elbow (or Rafael from his Fabio).
when Keown is sitting in the TV3 studio he seems like the Einstein of football
Tony Cascarino’s autobiography is actually one of the best out there believe it or not.
And a Tony award? I have to admit to liking that even if it is a little corny!
the blondy guy who scored the 2nd against Utd got it last night.
He’ll be awarding it to a Debrecen player in 3 weeks time !
In the studio, Keown looks the complete opposite of the phlegm-expelling beast that tried to crush Ruud Van Nistelrooy back in ‘03.
But then Van Nistelrooy’s pathetic behaviour would be enough to send even the most calm and collected of men into such a rage.
Last week I made a pretty good choice if I do say so myself of captaining RvP for GW11. Out of the 11 gameweeks so far, on 5 occasions I have captained the player in my squad that has scored the most points which isn’t bad I don’t think… it got me thinking though how many points I would be on if I had picked the correct captain from my squad every single week. Here is my record…
GW – Captained Player – Score / Max Scoring Player – Score (Pts Missed)
1 – Defoe – 4 / Upson – 24 (20)
2 – Defoe – 34 / Defoe – 34 (0)
3 – Defoe – 14 / Defoe – 14 (0)
4 – Defoe – 4 / Lennon – 20 (16)
5 – G Johnson – 18 / Bent – 20 (2)
6 – Drogba – 24 / Milner – 28 (4)
7 – Lennon – 12 / Bent – 36 (24)
8 – Fabregas – 44 / Fabregas – 44 (0)
9 – Fabregas – 16 / Collins – 20 (4)
10 – Drogba – 18 / Drogba – 18 (0)
11 – Van Persie – 30 / Van Persie – 30 (0)
Over the 11 gameweeks so far I have missed out on a total of 70 points by captaining the wrong player in my squad. I belive that I have done pretty well with my captain choices so far… but this goes to show how much of a difference choosing the right/wrong captain makes.
that would put you in 1st place by 2 points.
why would you work this out – is it not annoying to see that?
PS – well done on getting such a good score anyway
Well it is slightly frustrating but I doubt very much whether there is one person who has been playing since GW1 who has made the correct choice for captain every week. I would imagine that 70 points missed out on so far is below average. I now give my captain choice far more thought and do a lot more research/deliberation before making a final choice on who to captain for each gameweek.
you have done amazingly well duck, hitting fab and defoe and rvp for their big hauls is a record that anyone would be happy with.
You have 218pts for your capt so far and I have only 158
I would say there are not too many with more capt points than you so well done duck of not so much doom
how do u see how many captain points people have?
go back through you gw score and add them up tosey, old fashioned and labour intensive I know but I had minions sort it out in jig time
so far I’ve got:
1 – Lampard – 2 / Gerrard – 7
2 – Gerrard -11 / Gerrard – 11
3 – Gerrard – 2 / Nani – 11
4 – Gerrard – 6 / A Cole – 14
5 – Gerrard – 7 / Bent – 10
6 – Fabregas – 8 / A Cole 12
7 – Gerrard – 7 / Bent – 18
8 – RVP – 7 / Fabregas 22
9 – Fabregas – 8 / Fabregas – 8
10 – lampard – 14 / Lampard – 14
11 – cole – 7? / Alexander – 21
158/296 = 53% so not a disaster by any means I suppose and there are a few in there who I would never have captained (ahem nani
)
I think your percentage is more a reflection of your ridiculously high scoring 2nd column!
yeah its pretty nice eh?
As long as I can just keep it up for the next 27gws hmmm……
Lampard 2 Shawcross 15
Gerrard 11 Johnson 18
Gerrard 2 Shawcross 8
Lampard 10 A Cole 14
Gerrard 7 Bent 10
Fabregas 8 A Cole 12
Gerrard 7 Bent 18
Fabregas 22 Fabregas 22
Fabregas 8 Dunn 9
Drogba 9 Drogba 9
Fabregas 11 van Persie 15
97/ 150 = 64% pretty much where I was last season.
My captaincy has improved lately, but only got the right guy twice!
The greasemonkey script used to work it all out for you, but it’s f**ked up this season, so I’ve had to do mine with pen & paper.
so far I’ve got:
1 – Lampard – 2 / Rooney – 9
2 – Gerrard -11 / Gerrard – 11
3 – Gerrard – 2 / Defoe – 7
4 – Lampard – 10 / Lampard – 10
5 – Gerrard – 7 / Bent – 10
6 – Fabregas – 8 / Drogba 12
7 – Gerrard – 7 / Bent – 18
8 – Fabregas – 22 / Fabregas 22
9 – Fabregas – 8 / Dunn – 9
10 – Drogba – 9 / Drogba – 9
11 – Drogba – 11 / Drogba – 11 (assuming Young doesn’t eclipse that total tonight)
My percentage prior to this week was 73.5% of potential captain points. Which isn’t half bad at all.
Nice score by the way DoD, really good work for your first season.
you whopping me in the capt stakes also mf.
Is my capt score really terrible then? or is it just that you two are doing exceptionally well?
I think the winners had captain scores of about 60+% last year, mine was a shocking 40% or something I think
This year mine’s 62% so far
I’m not sure. In recent weeks I’ve just been relying on my captain though, with the rest of my team performing rather poorly. I think you’ve just had strong points from other positions (prime example is Alexander this week. who would have captained him??)
But I see we’re now on exactly the same amount of points, so it seems you’re doing much better than me in assembling a squad and spreading the points around.
It is hard to have it both ways I suppose mf.
Yes I have just seen that we are on exactly the same points so maybe capt choices are not all that important?
I have said from the start though that everyone goes through a run of good luck and bad luck at some stage through the season and it is just how well you minimise the damage in during your bad runs and maximise the potential from your good runs that defines where you finish.
I must say I am delighted to be anywhere near the top 20k after a very poor start and if I can finish in the top 10k come the end of the season I know I will have done pretty well in my mini leagues.
That would depend on how evenly distributed your points are within your team, I would assume? This has to do with the balance of the team.
In an extreme case: If your points are 22-11-1-1-1-1-…. then it would be far more important to get it right then if your points are more like 6-7-6-7-6…
It’s hard to draw many conclusions from this stat, but it’s fair to say that captain choices always are very important.
true gargamel. Still I think the odds would be in favour of things evening out over a season so hopefully my capts will increase in productivity.
I have:
1 – Lampard – 2 / Shawcross – 15
2 – Torres – 6 / Lampard – 10
3 – Gerrard – 2 / Defoe – 7 (Rubbish week!)
4 – Lampard – 10 / Lampard – 10 (hurrah!)
5 – Gerrard – 7 / Bent – 10
6 – Gerrard 6 / Fabregas (etc) – 8
7 – Gerrard – 7 – Bent – 18
8 – Fabregas – 22 / Fabregas – 22
9 – Fabregas – 8 / Boateng – 10
10 – Lampard – 14 / Lampard 14
Only three times out of ten have I hit the ‘perfect’ captain in my team, I need Ashley Young to score 20 points tonight to make that four… unlikely. I’ll take my 67% total, but it’s boosted so strongly to be honest by two of my three perfect hits also being bloody high scores.
I’ve been ’shooting’ up the rankings more thanks to my transfers than anything else – GW8 – 10 I brought in the weekly highest scorer, again… not likely to change tonight to make it four in a row.
Oh Dear. I just checked my captain choices and I got it right only ONCE when Fab got a nothing short of spectacular 8points in Gameweek 9.
My turn, this is going to be painful:
1 – Lampard – 2 / Drogba – 12
2 – Drogba – 4 / Johnson – 18
3 – Lampard – 3 / Drogba – 12
4 – Drogba – 5 / Lampard – 10
5 – Gerrard – 7 / Bent – 10
6 – Fabregas – 8 / Drogba – 12
7 – Gerrard – 7 / Bent – 18
8 – Arshavin – 8 / Fabregas – 22
9 – Fabregas – 8 / Dunn – 9
10 – Drogba – 9 / Drogba – 9
11 – Arshavin – 4 / Drogba – 11
So that is only one correct capt. choice all season, although the week 9 Fab/Dunn is marginal, and I was never going to capt Dunn.
Anyway all that means is that I have got 65/143… just over 45%, not too brilliant. If I had captained better, and chosen RVP over Arshavin in my week 6 wilcard I would be doing so much better, not that I am doing badly…
1 – Lampard – 2 / Shawcross – 15
2 – Rooney– 1 / Kuyt – 11
3 – Lampard – 3 / Rooney – 13
4 – Lampard – 10 / Cole – 14
5 – Lampard – 8 / Bent – 10
6 – Fabregas – 8 / Drogba – 12
7 – Johnson – 2 / Bent – 18
8 – Fabregas – 22 / Fabregas – 22
9 – Fabregas – 8 / Fabregas – 8
10 – Fabregas – 5 / Drogba – 9
11 – Milner– 1(?) / Fabregas – 11(?)
so thats 2 correct so far with a total of 70/143 = 49%. Mine is helped considerably by the Fab big haul for the rest not too hot!
Interesting this =)
11: Fab 11 : Drogba/Fab 11 (win)
10: Drogba 9 : Drogba 9 (win)
9: Fab 8 : Dunn 9 (lose)
8: Fab 22: Fab 22 (win)
7: Gerrard 7 : Bent 18 (megalose)
6: Gerrard 6 : ACole 12 (lose)
5: Johnson 9 : Bent 10 (lose)
4: Lampard 10 : ACole 14 (lose)
3: Bent 2 : Berbatov 11 (megalose)
2: Lampard 10 : Kuyt 11 (lose)
1: Lampard 2: Shawcross 15 (megalose)
MINE: 22+18+16+44+14+12+18+20+4+20+4 = 192
IDEAL: 22+18+18+44+36+24+20+28+22+22+30 = 284
3/11 correct.67%.
Isn’t your maths wrong there Duck?
In game week 1 you did miss out on 20 or so (Upson was on your bench), but in game week 4 you got 4 + 10 = 14 instead of 2 + 20 = 22, so only an 8 point swing, not the 16 you quote!
Apologies, my method of calculation there was flawed as I just double both players scores and quoted the difference, without taking into account the score that my non-captained player would have contributed to my total.
By my reckoning the guy in first place has only got it right 4 times – so you’re doing pretty well! Admittedly one that he didn’t get right was when Torres got him 34 points as captain but Bent got 18 points so maybe it should be 4.5 times!
Got mine correct 5 out of 11 times, far higher than I would have thought. My scores have generally been well distributed within my team though, as I haven’t had Defoe or Darren Bent (except in the start) etc, so I’m not sure how much good this information is to.
Still interesting.
I have:

1. Lampard 2/Shawcross 15
2. Gerrard 11/Gerrard 11
3. Gerrard 2/A.Cole 7 disastrous week
4.Lampard 10/A.Cole 14
5. Gerrard 7/G.Johnson 9
6. Rooney 8/A.Cole 12
7. Gerrard 7/Saha 9
8.Fabregas 22/Fabregas 22
9. Fabregas 8/Fabregas 8
10. Drogba 9/Drogba 9
11. C.Cole 7/Fabregas 11 expecting another
4 weeks total hits, and only 2 absolute duds. Not so bad.
I forgot 93/127. That’s 73%, and C.Cole to play once more to boost that up a little.
This is no fun!
GW1 ROONEY 18 / ROONEY 18
GW2 G JOHNSON 18 / LAMPARD 20
GW3 G JOHNSON 2 / ROONEY 26 (!!!!!!!!)
GW4 DEFOE 4 / LAMPARD 20 (!!!!!!!)
GW5 TORRES 4 / G JOHNSON 18
GW6 TORRES 26 / TORRES 26
GW7 DEFOE 8 / TORRES 34 (!!!!!!!)
GW8 FABREGAS 44 / FABREGAS 44
GW9 FABREGAS 16 / FABREGAS 16
GW10 DROGBA 18 / DROGBA / VAN PERSIE 18
GW11 FABREGAS 22 / ALEXANDER 42 (Don’t feel too bad!)
I have so far got 180 points from captains. Could have had 282.
So if I’ve done my sums right I am currently on 635 total. Could have been on 686 I think. This is before I’ve even thought about what points I’ve left on my bench, then of course I could go and look at points lost from transfering out the wrong players. I wont tho!
1 – Lampard – 2 / Rooney – 9
2 – Rooney -1 / Lampard – 10
3 – Gerrard – 2 / Defoe – 7
4 – Gerrard– 6 / G.Johnson – 8
5 – Gerrard – 7 / Bent – 10
6 – Fabregas – 8 / Drogba 12
7 – Fabregas – 6 / Bent – 18
8 – Fabregas – 22 / Fabregas 22
9 – Fabregas – 8 / Dunn – 9
10 – Drogba – 9 / Drogba – 9
11 – Fabregas – 11 / Fabregas – 11
So i have got 164 points from captains so far out of a possible 250. 65.6% Not too bad. My luck has improved, i was unlucky to get just 2,1,2 from Lamps, Rooney and Gerrard in the first 3 weeks which mostly explains my fairly ropey start.
want to bring in 2 or 3 of dempsey/murphy, reid and dunn. would you get rid of lennon, milner or elliot and in what order? guess i need to wait and see who is fit on saturday…
Fabbbb, hopefully he doesn’t punish me for choosing Milner over him this week!
just noticed they not showing the Villa game on espn or star sports tonight. will have to resort to other means. someone mentioned a website called [edit] or something, to watch games? what was the name exactly?
oops. sorry. dint realise it was frowned upon here.
Right, time for my weekly team post for the weekend…
Sorensen
Vermaelen Distin Collins
Fabrgas (c) Arshavin Dunn Milner
Drogba Bent Rodallega
subs: Hart Duff Turner Evra
Have 1.9 in the bank and may do Milner to Dempsey if the Villa man looks like he is not going to make it for the weekend.. and then do Lampard and Hughes for Turner and Arshavin..
Anyone think that Berbatov may be a decent option for from week 14 onwards? I still think that Rooney will score higher, especially how he is on pens, and some free-kicks, but Rooney is pretty expensive, and getting him in would require me moving around too much cash, I suppose I could do it if I decided not to get in Lampard and got in someone cheaper like Kuyt??
Also, how guarenteed is Zabaleta of holding down the right back slot at City? I know he has it the moment, and Hughes is not too impressed with Richards atm, but Zabaleta is not exactly brilliant and could easily lose his place…
Any value in getting Hangeland over Hughes, at 0.5 cheaper Hughes looks like a good bet, although the Hangeland has already picked up a few BPs, even without Fulham keeping clean sheets.. Also is Hughes, Duff, Demspey overkill?
ltos of people get scared by paragraphs. I usually appreciate long, well thought out posts (very tired atm though!) Try summerising your thoughts and posting just one question at a time mate. You’ll probably get better responses that way.
I am new to FFPL but know you get half the price rise but when I transfer out a player (e.g. fab) the money remaining is only going up by what I paid for them. Am I doign something wrong??
Help appreciated
I take it you mean when you take a player out of your team on the transfer page? If so then the player value shown on the transfer page is not what you paid for them but half the difference of his price rise since you got him (rounded down). If you want to see what you paid for them click ont the “data view” tab.
The players value in your team on the transfers page starts at what you bought them at and then increases by 0.1 for every 0.2 overall price rise. This means that the players value and your teams value increases but you don’t get the money in the bank.
I.E. if you buy Fabregas for 11.4 and in two weeks he’s gone up to 11.6 overall then his value in your team and what you can sell him at would be 11.5 (half the difference). Hope that helps.
Wll Arteta ever get well? Every few weeks he has a setback.
have been thinking about my transfers this week… i have 1 free transfer and have 3.5 mill in the bank… i am thinking Keogh to C.Cole? its a good move but can anybody suggest anything better?? would love a Man City player and can afford Bellamy but im just not confident enough on him starting! and can’t afford ADebayor or Tevez.. Would appreciate anybodys thaughts!
is milner fit to play tonight anybody
i hope not!!
says he is doubtful so i guess theyll give him to the last minute
i hope he gets swineflu
I have a sneaky feeling he’ll score a brace.
I can’t find the words for how much I would enjoy that, after all stick I’ve had to take this week – even from those I thought were my friends (YES DINO! THATS YOU!:))
Honestly though, from what I’ve read it seems highly unlikely that he’ll play.
I don’t even own him and I’d love a brace
the only brace he has a chance of seeing tonight is maybe one on his leg
which does hurt me also gargamel so I am not really happy about it at all
hi guys,
been tinkering a bit. how abt this team at the end of next week going into the double gw for a 4 point hit? i reckon with 5 DGW players, i should be able to ‘fund’ a 4 pointer.
sorensen jensen
verm dunne shawcross distin hughes
dunn fab duff/dempsey petrov hunt
bent drog rvp
and right after the double gw, i’m thinking of another 4 point hit with:
distin -> evra
hunt -> reid
any thoughts?
i think cole has another 2 in him tonight and a noble assist would be just grand
Sorry to change topic slightly, but what happened to Arsenal’s game in hand at home against Bolton? I thought it was going to be played Wednesday 9 December?
Postponed due to Arsenal’s progress in the Carling Cup.
Check out this post for more details…
http://www.fantasyfootballscou.....-part-two/
Cheers Mark. Was tempted to draft in Gibbs, though I’m uncertain of Arsenal’s potential to keep clean sheets in the short term. With the Gunners extra game against Bolton – at home – postponed, not sure I’ll waste yet another of my transfers in the Telegraph game to bring in Gibbs.
I wouldn’t bother with Gibbs, you’d just have to transfer him out again in a few weeks
Indeed, and their fixtures do not suggest clean sheets.
keeping barry kuyt and saha in for this gameweek. would any1 do something as crazy as this ?
Doesn’t look too crazy to me
yeah i would keep all them in this week too bar Saha perhaps and even hes not a bad option too have
i saw the team news for everton and they didnt have saha in the predicted lineup
teh team news for the uefa cup game? hopefully he wont play in that and will be back against wham
oh aite thanks
tosey do u think will be allright for the gw if i leave it as it is? h2h leaders are 30 points ahead of me.
how does teh h2h work, how many weeks do u have left to make up teh 30?
if i was u id get barry out and petrov in for this week as he should outscore him
then swap petrov to joe cole or ballack the week after, WOLVES
then back to petrov? HULL
what im getting at is selling barry and using his cash + the 0.9 u have available to basically hand pick a top midfielder each week based on who the top clubs are playing?
Massive waste of transfers
yeah thanks for the advice. might be switching petrov in for barry now. just to confirm he is 100% fit to play on the weekend?
so what transfers would u recommend he makes over teh next three weeks that will gain more points than petrov in his 2 home fixtures and a chelsea midfielder at home to wolves?
sammy why do you think its a waste of transfers?
I’m not saying getting those players for those fixtures won’t get him points, it’s just a waste to use all your transfers on individual slot in your squad. Unless the rest of his squad is perfect/uninjured/in form (which it isn’t)
the only one i can see that wont play is mannone, saha and milner should be fit for the weekend
unsure on stearman?
who in his squad would u class as not perfect/uninjured/in form
Mannone, Saha, Milner, Stearman, Vermaelen got poor fixtures coming up for his price + almost certainly more concerns by the time he’s swapped Petrov in and out twice. Petrov and Cole themselves are major rotation risks too
well i guess its all about opinions. i worked like that earlier in the season, getting benayoun, torres and kuyt in for a short period and back out for fab and rvp and its worked out ok for me. having 4 top players playing against lower teams can carry a team where teh rest pick up 1’s and 2’s as my team proved this week
Yeah .. then you had to make 4 transfers in a week as a consequence. But as you say, it’s clearly working for you, but I personally don’t think it’s a good long term strategy unless you get extremely lucky
the thought process was whether the players transferred in would warrant the 8pt hit and they have.
im taking a 4pt hit in 3 weeks to make 3 transfers as ive loaded my squad with 7 players who have a dbl gwk next weekend. again i think those 7 will warrant a 4pt hit altho i may be proved wrong
Have both Evra and A Cole in my squad..any views as to whether I should keep them on my bench?? v hard to see either of them really doing the business
I’m playing A.Cole and benching O’Shea.
yeah, think I’ll do the same..tough one to call
For gameweek 12 and 13 I want to do Agbonlahor to Rooney and Dunne to Hangeland but I can’t decide whether to do one this week and one next or save them both until after the break. I always get these things wrong
save them both. dunne is likely to outscore hangeland this weekj and ade should outscore rooney imo
yeah keep both this week then do the transfers after the internationals
Barring injuries I think I’ll keep my two transfers for the double. Good idea?
I’m doing exactly the same Puffin, nothing prescient this week really (barring a sudden spate of injuries).
And then can use a double transfer to cater for the double gameweek (if I so please) and recover from an international break if needed as well.
I`ve stupidly not thought of no transfers this game week .
Sounds like a good plan & a double transfer next week to hopefully inject some life into my flagging squad !!
Maybe Dunne / Dempsey swoop leaving some needy £`s to spend on my Shite front line !
Hello all
I’m thinking G Johnson -> Insua and SEB -> Cole for this game week, taking a 4 point hit but saving 200 grand assuming Cole goes up and Johnson goes down.
Does anyone have an opinion?
Many thanks
Not 100% sure Insua will keep his place in the team long term, he was awful against Fulham.
Aurelio is injured though (again) ?
Yeah looks like it, but you never know when he’ll be fit and play LB again. He’d be better off just getting Cole or Evra next week
Fair point, but he’s played in all but one game this season.
Due to finances, its got to be a 6 mil defender or less in, to enable the Carlton Cole move. And its got to be now, if ever, due to price moves.
I don’t really fancy having no big 4 defenders, and Insua is one of the cheapest that’s playing – I suppose the other choice is Song.
Yeah, Aurelio was injured for the first couple of months though. I think Insua has a good chance of keeping his place, Rafa seems to be using Aurelio further up the pitch these days.
O’Shea and Evans will probably play a similar amount to Insua for around the same price, Song’s probably the safest though
I had Insua at the beginning of the season.
He doesnt look great though and I wouldnt be surprised if he replaces him with Aurelio as soon as he can. Even Agger could play there.
Not sure if a Liverpool defender is a priority at the moment.
“Newcastle United have announced their stadium will be known as the sportsdirect.com @ St James’ Park Stadium for the immediate future.”
Just awful, awful… the idea was silly anyway doing so after the stadium has been self-named for so long, but that’s preposterous – no-one will end up bloody calling it that, absolutely no-one.
Hilarious. Hahaha.
joke of a club. i can remember going up there to watch bristol city in teh early 90s and a crowd of around 7000 there! best fans in teh world my ass
Wow. That is truly bonkers.
rofl!
Mike Ashley couldn’t find a company who wanted to put their name on the stadium, so he just used his own company instead.
He really does want to be hated by Newcastle fans doesn’t he?
hahahahahaha
Please let them do a Leeds.
I would love it.
Alan Smith still looks crap in the championship!
got any itchy finger over the weekend think i made a mistake with alex but hes goin up in price forgot about double week coming up
I know this is a different topic, but can anyone please tell me why Lawrence -as a set piece taker- is not in the starting 11 for stoke?
Thanks
Well there are others in the side who can take a free kick and do a bit more than that. Lawrence is a championship player really.
Etherington takes with his left, now Diao is back fit he plays in the centre, and Whitehead, Whelan can play from right, there is also Sanli who is a class act and will surely get more game time in the near future.
Guess that’ it on Milner. (Look Scout Tweets)
Hi all ! Guys i would like some help from you all regarding my team please. cant believe i had given benched :’(
This is my team for gameweek 12:
Given- (Sorenson)
Evra-O’Shea-Baines-Johnson- (Wilkinson)
Boateng-Benayoun-Arshavin-Fabregas(c)- (Henry)
Saha-Berbatov- (Keogh)
This week:
G. johnson – Gibbs
Arshavin – Huddlestone/Jenas/Reid/Etherington/Dunn/Hunt
Saha – Defoe/Bent
Next week:
Benayoun – Lampard
Berbatov – any player
looking to take out Keogh in next couple of weeks.
what do u think is better please: jenas and bent or reid/ etherington/ dunn etc and defoe?
im gna take out Berbatov due to the simple fact that no matter how good he plays, he wont get bonus points :@, Rooney all 3 against blackburn
van persie/rooney/adebayor?
also if i take out o’shea in couple weeks, i can bring in alexander and davies for keogh? and bolton have double gw (14) coming up. : )
Please answer me, i need all your help. Thanks, much appreciated!
don’t take out benayoun, he gets bps and is most likely pool player to get points currently. gj and baines should leave your def, there are much cheaper options at equal value in stoke and av. gibbs is a chance, will have to transfer him out soon. that should free up enough to trade arshavin for lampard, for your strikers get zamora defoe and cole
ps I had given on the bench too… what a shitshow
Any news on whether Milner has travelled to London with the squad?
Don’t reckon I’m gonna bother with any transfers this week. I can still put out a team (not particularly happy with it, as too many players are not bringing home the bacon), but it’ll have to do.
Don’t know. He’s listed in the squad I’ve seen but I don’t know if that actually means anything.
Latest tweet looks bad.
I opted to tweet the most moderate source, there is also another article that has Milner definitely out.
http://www.birminghampost.net/.....5085354/2/
Ahhhh, that post reminds me of the days of old captain Matty Elliott – I can actually see the comparisons between him and Collins, and they are quite strong (though I don’t ever seen Collins being lumped up front).
MON expecting to be without Milner is latest i think.
Maybe Elliot to Dunn for you?
iv only just realised hull, blackburn and fulham have a dw 13 and bolton dw 14, i think im gna go hangeland and dempsey for fulham and kevin davies for bolton. what do u think?
boltons dbl gw is cancelled
how come? thats a shame (sigh) lol
because arsenal got through in carling cup
thanks man, i could see davies battering arsenal already!
GW1 Lampard 4 / Hangeland 16 (sigh..)
GW2 Lampard 20 / Kuyt 22
GW3 Lampard 6 / Bosingwa 12
GW4 Lampard 20 / Lampard 20 (yeah)
GW5 Torres 4 / G.Johnson 18 (doh)
GW6 A.Young 6 / Torres 26 (never C Young again)
GW7 Lennon 12 / Torres 34 (!!!)
GW8 Fabregas 44 / Fabregas 44
GW9 Fabregas 16 / Fabregas 16
GW10 Drogba 18 / Drogba/Saha 18
GW11 Milner 2 / Drogba/Fabregas 22 (Huuuuuurts)
So far I lost a potential 96 points on bad captain picks. The worst have been selecting mid priced (7-9 m) midfielders.
That is almost always a bad idea.
It’s only 48 actually, not too bad
I remember on my last years FPL capt stats IF i`d chosen correctly every week I think I would have WON the whole thing by 100ish points !!
Yes, but it is completely impossible. You just cannot guess when Alexander is going to score brace and have a clean sheet. Top players rarely risk a captain outside of Fabs, Gers, Lamps, RVP, Drogba, Rooney, Torres or Arsh, so their results (and our choices) are more relevant on our scores.
I notice that Glenn Johnson is red on FPL.
Has he been ruled out of the Brum game already?
no but hes out of the squad for CL game tonight so its probably unlikely he’ll be back for the weekend. I havent seen anything about the extent of the injury however…
Thanks C2K.
It’s a tough one, as the game is on Monday, and it’s the type of game that you’d expect Johnson to be pretty attacking in.
On the other hand, he’s definitely not worth nearly 8.0, and I wouldn’t mind selling him before he drops. Hmmm….
i know, i still have him too and would like to get rid but it is one of the best possible fixtures for him, the best CS chance and probably urged to get forward a lot at home.
Thing is he might not play and his value is about to drop and then after this week the fixtures dont look nice and hes not being doing anything anyway the last 5 weeks or so! As you say its a lot of money for that much risk so im looking to get rid… i think… cue a GJ hattrick
i want to get rid of Hunt as i can see his value is declining. i need a replacement who is going to earn points and hopefully rise in value? The tricky part is that I have zero budget on this one so I only have the flat 5.0 million.
I welcome any suggestions….
o’hara seems quite consistent for 3 or 4 points at least and is on set pieces, only 4.5m. Otherwise perhaps Lee of Bolton is worth a look at 5m, they have good fixtures after this week
Lampard 2 Shawcross 15
Lampard 10 Kuyt 11
Lampard 3 Drogba 12
Torres 2 Benayoun 24
Lampard 7 Fletcher 12
Torres 17 Torres 17
RVP 7 Fabregas 22
Lampard 14 Lampard 14
RVP 15 RVP 15
Only picked the right captain 3 times
still you have 54% of your possible capt points and that is the stat you should probably be looking at so pretty good so far as I think last years winner (someone was saying earlier) had a 60%+ record. Plenty of time to soften out them benayoon anomalies before the end of the season.
basically got stung by lampards porr early season form. hoping last week and next week at home to wolves will go some way to making up for that
It’s a 6 of one half dozen of the other situation, I suppose.
Tosey would have a better percentage if he hadn’t had Ben in that 34pt week- but fewer points overall!
I would rather the points the higher capt% pt total myself
but you know what I mean i.e. he is doing pretty good with his capt choices so far
I want Reid and Dunn in for Rodwell and Hunt. I have no leeway on my money, I need to do it be4 Reid goes up. But i don’t like Reid’s close fixtures. I want Dunn for this week. So shall I
a) take the 4 point hit and bring them both in
b) just bring in Dunn and have to re-think ever having Reid
c) bring in Reid and then Dunn next week.
We’ve had a day of captains ratings, I’ve had a lunch of staying in the office to avoid spending any money, I was wondering how people scaled their gameweekly scores, for example here is mine:
1,000,000+ – dreadful
750,000+ – poor
500,000+ – average
250,000+ – fair
100,000+ – good
50,000+ – great
10,000+ – fantastic
1,000+ – brilliant
1+ – unbelievable
I know the words can mean different things to be honest, so it’s just the general gameweekly markers really. Anybody actually think about it?
I look at my two millionaire’s club results already and cringe, anything “good” or better and I am well and truly satisfied.
Strange thing can be is that (on my pointless rudimentary scale I must add) Mark has only 4 “good” but hasn’t come lower than 584k in any given gameweek so far, a real mark of consistency.
Good one, Andy. Even more relevant than captain choices.
I normally think that if I’m in the top 100k for the week then I’m happy. It may not sound that impressive, but I’ve found it normally means a green arrow.
Approx top 500k and you get an green arrow, by my statistics.
Although it depends where are you on the table. For top 5000 players, it’s certainly harder to get green arrow.
depends on where you were beforehand! If you were ranked 1000000 and you ranked below 1000000 for a gameweek you will slide down. Simple
well actually its not quite that simple as it obviously depends on those around you. As a general guidline though 100′000 or better is doign well.
I have had all green arrows to date bar one gw (although my first week was pretty atrocious so I was starting from a low base) but I have not had a gw score inside the top 50k and only 3 below top 100k.
Still waiting for that great week, and I thought with alexander going mental this week I might have got it (might have if not for that dud of a ref not giving geo his goal and denying them a peno also
) but I am sure it will come at some stage.
If I get in the top 250,000 I’m happy, basically.
In that case, as i might have suspected, my last 2 weeks have officially dreadful
1,110,508 and 1,339,920 !!
im looking to stay in the top 100 if possible although very unlikely i will manage it. then again someone has to win it dont they so why not???
You’ll almost certainly drop out at some stage Tosey, but there’s no reason why you couldn’t then get back in.
The advantage for the top few, as you are, is that it takes a spectacularly bad week for you to fall considerably- especially as the season goes on and the gaps increase.
im expecting to drop tonight as i have no villa or wham players but gw13 i should get back up there hopefully! highest position was 26th! wasnt there for long tho!
out of interest, does any1 know how last years winner is getting on this year?
I use a similar scale, but not as boring:
1,000,000+ – shit
750,000+ – naff
500,000+ – so-so
250,000+ – neat
100,000+ – gnarly
50,000+ – back of the net!
10,000+ – dazzling
1,000+ – scintilating
1+ – orgasmic
Well On Your Rating`s Sammy This Is How My Season Has Started !!
GW 1 back of the net !!
GW 2 neat
GW 3 SHIT
GW 4 neat
GW 5 neat
GW 6 naff
GW 7 SHIT
GW 8 gnarly
GW 9 neat
GW 10 back of the net !
GW 11 so-so
Wish I had NO SHIT GW`s
im aiming for top 5k, i finished 4k last year and im alreayd in better position this time this year than i was last year hopefully i can get in the top 5k again
theres so little points seperating the top 10k though!
Good one – currently on great but hopefully on fantastic after tonight’s game
+ my Bikey sub to come in for ACole
As far as I started dreadful during a few weeks for my 1st FPL, I have more chances to get green arrows
I was hopeful of holding around the 500k mark all year as this is my first year. The way this month has gone I’ll be happy not to be bottom of the table altogether!!! Still, looking on the bright side, it means I should be able to see some green arrows in the weeks to come
Amelies Dad, you should always have at least two big players to rotate for captaincy. Three would be perfect considering your finances. You are dropping because you only have Fabs, and everyone else has at least three by now.
Yes, I wasn’t looking far enough ahead with my choices early on and cost myself team value which is just recovering. Then I messed up playing my wildcard and now I’ve got a plan to put it right but want to take it a bit slower. I’m learning for next year
Yes, you’ve had a few tough weeks recently AmeliesDad. But you’ve gambled on the Villa doublegameweek, so could still get something decent from Agbon and Dunne tonight.
Don’t take too many 12 point hits!
I’ve never actually got into the top 10k for an individual gameweek. The best I’ve done is around 25k. So I’m pretty boring really.
You’re Even Steven.
Steady Eddie
Level Neville
Hmm my season so far
Game Week 1 = Great
Game Week 2 =
Game Week 3 =
Game Week 4 =
Game Week 5 =
Game Week 6 =
