The Midweek-ish Meander

by Mark on November 5

Back in its rightful place, just outside a midweek slot, here’s my summary of the gameweek ahead. Littered with the usual splattering of player tips, typos and the now regular guest appearance by Paddy…

Best For Clean Sheets…

I’m somewhat encouraged by the fact that we were treated to no less than seven clean sheets in the last gameweek. It’s remains tough to predict them though; this week’s fixtures are hardly a gift in this respect.

Chelsea, as the league’s best defence, face United at home – making them a risky proposition. Villa meanwhile, have just one clean sheet in the last six league outings and face a Bolton outfit that have been scoring and have notched in each of their last three away games. Neither of those “defensive heavyweights” leap at us as certain clean sheets, but somehow, both remain tempting when you consider the inconsistency found elsewhere.

Paddy Power have City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Villa as their favourites for cleanies this week. You can certainly argue against that selection, given Livepool’s injuries and City’s record that shows just one clean sheet in the last seven league games. Even so, I’m in agreement that both City and Liverpool remain strong contenders and I can also be persuaded that Villa can hold out against Bolton. O’Neill’s side should have the tools to repel Bolton’s set-plays so it will be a real test of the “new” Wanderers and Megson’s wild attacking strategies.

With this in mind, I’ve got Paddy to put together another clean sheet accumulator based on these three sides. You can get 15/2 on Villa, City and Liverpool to bring in clean sheets this gameweek. There’s also a Scout Picks bet thrown in which I’ll talk more about tomorrow. In the Scout Picks strangely enough.

Back to the clean sheets and Arsenal at Wolves certainly look the next best option, although McCarthy’s side will surely test the Gunners suspect rearguard. As for dark horses – I’m willing to entertain the idea of Blackburn keeping Portsmouth out, while Stoke at Hull also looks decent. The likes of Samba and Shawcross might yet have a say in the Scout Picks then.

Best For Goals…

Very few of the fixtures scream out at me this week. Arsenal should, yet again be good for two or three, this time at Molineux. City will fancy themselves against a Burnley’s travel sick defence, and the Spurs vs Sunderland clash also promises some goals, if we get an early breakthrough.

Of those three fixtures, Arsenal obviously gives me the greatest confidence, with the usual suspects (Fabregas, Van Persie and Arshavin) likely to feature in the points again. City are set to have Adebayor installed up front once more, although he’s off-form so I don’t see a big win here. As for Spurs – yep, they might need a couple to see off Sunderland and they will have Defoe back up front to help them. Lennon and Modric are badly missed though and Sunderland themselves are without Cattermole, Cana and Jones. This could easily be a tight, low scoring affair.

I’ve got some hunches elsewhere though – including, for some reason, a couple for the consistently inconsistent Wigan against Fulham. That’s likely to spark a reply from Hodgson’s men, so I can even see a 2-2 or similar scoreline. Similarly Blackburn vs Portsmouth could go either way – a 0-0 or a score draw thriller. Again, we’ll need an early strike but I just fancy David Dunn to drive the home team on, and Prince Boateng to provide the spark for a newly confident Pompey.

Best For Frustration…

The clash at Stamford Bridge is the key fixture of the week of course. Can we really expect a decent fantasy haul from this one? On paper it looks tight and while the head says a narrow 1-1; the heart, buoyed on by this goal crazy season, hopes for something more. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Drogba profit in a squeaky win for Chelsea, but Ferguson will likely go with five in midfield and look to contain things early on. Frustration may well be part of his game plan and it may also enter into our vocabulary when describing the outcome of this match whilst chomping on our roasts.

Finally, there’s bound to be some excited investment in Zavon Hines off the back of his goals last night and his likely start against Everton in the wake of Carlton Cole’s injury. I’m being cautious here though. West Ham will need to adapt with Cole leading the line, while Everton are a wounded animal who may well come to keep things tight and hit on the break. I personally see a scrappy affair at Upton Park and a disappointing return for us fantasy bosses.

Which 3 should I start out of:

A Cole
Shawcross (have Sorensen in goal)
Collins (Villa)
Distin
S Hunt

???

tommypocket November 6 at 10:48 am

Easy – Cole, Collins & Hunt

Keith November 6 at 10:49 am

first 3. it’s better to go balls out and hope stoke keep a clean sheet, rather than share points between hunt and sorenson

champoz November 6 at 10:50 am

cashley, shawcross/distin, collins. sorry can’t decide between stoke away to hull or eve at home to wham. go shawx as he at least has a goal threat and bp attraction.

Psy November 6 at 10:55 am

I’m in a similar boat.

I’m going to play C.Cole with Distin as first sub if he doesn’t play.

But I also need to transfer out Foster, G.Johnson, Jarvis & Bassong. So I thinking of bringing in Given and Dunn this week for a 4 point hit.

Any thoughts?

Boss Hogg November 6 at 10:57 am

Looks like a really sound move to me.

Given seems to be the best keeper option for the weekend and is in top form. Man City also have good fixtures.

Dunn has the double and is also flying (as long as he’s fully recovered from the swines).

Do it!

tommypocket November 6 at 11:12 am

Bringing in a keeper for a 4 point hit doesn’t seem like good business to me! Bar a penalty save, you’ll only break even if they keep a clean sheet.

I’m in the same boat – need to transfer out Foster but i’m waiting to do it in a week where its the only transfer I make…

Definitely bring in Dunn though – considering making him captain too.

...al November 6 at 11:32 am

captian dunn is gona take some balls

Boss Hogg November 6 at 11:00 am

So, the collective mind of FFS thinks Cole and Collins plus one other…

Hmm….

buggu November 6 at 11:03 am

i would say cole, collins and shawcross

disitn wouldnt be a bad shout either

Hunter S. Thompson November 6 at 11:01 am

Eveton are away to west ham.

Chill Pill November 6 at 11:24 am

Everton could keep a cleanie without Cole…could.

Boss Hogg November 6 at 11:02 am

How many players with a double gameweek is everyone planning on playing next week?

At the moment it looks like I’ll have 5 single weekers (all Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd), 5 double weekers, plus a cheap-as-chips keeper between the sticks.

What’s the balance for everyone else?

m165 November 6 at 11:06 am

If my plan works out, I’ll have 4. Hopefully it’ll work better than the one just gone!

Marknlard November 6 at 11:07 am

Having half your team from Hull, Fulham, Everton and Blackburn does sound like a lot to me…

How many you going to get rid of straight away?

Boss Hogg November 6 at 11:19 am

I’ll be getting rid of 3 players over about 5 weeks.

2 of them I want to keep – Saha and Dunn.

Chill Pill November 6 at 11:13 am

Just took a 4 point hit to get Dunn in as the guy at the top of my league has him so its more a tactical sub to take out his big hitting differentials.

Hopefully Bullard plays 90 mins this week as ill bring him in as he is always good for BPs, goals and assists, all going well I will have 5 that I don’t mind keeping hold off (Saha, Distin, Dunn, Hunt and Bullard)

Hull have 3 at home against mid table teams, Blackburn have 3 decent games on the spin and Everton could turn up at any given time so think I am well set for it, didn’t fancy Villa or West Ham so left that double alone and glad I did now.

SammyC November 6 at 11:54 am

“Just took a 4 point hit to get Dunn in as the guy at the top of my league has him so its more a tactical sub to take out his big hitting differentials.”

Ehhhhhhhhhhhh?

Chill Pill November 6 at 12:02 pm

What….don’t…you….understand???

The bloke at the top of my league has a couple of players that have been hurting me so I have jumped on them, I now feel my differentials are better then his so for the long haul I can chip away at his lead.

SammyC November 6 at 12:09 pm

Well firstly the whole differential thing is a load of bollocks. But even if it was a reasonable way to play the game at this stage, getting the same team as someone ahead of you isn’t gonna help. So basically I think you’re using false logic about an illogical concept to convince yourself that it’s ok to take a hit.

Taking a hit to get Dunn in is a good plan because he’s a bargain with good fixtures and should get loads of points, you don’t need to make up some shit excuse concerning differentials and league leaders to do it! :D

Chill Pill November 6 at 12:15 pm

Not the same team but blunting his players that have hurt me.

Why do you think I need to care about if you think I’m using a false logic or not anyway? Did you see me asking for any hints, tips or general advice?

You are right though, I don’t need to make excuses to myself about taking hits, why would I need to? Its not like I see the blessing of plebs like you Sammy.

Chill Pill November 6 at 12:17 pm

Seek not see.

SammyC November 6 at 12:22 pm

Sorry, it just reminded me of the argument in preseason we had when you tried to convince yourself that it was a good idea to get Arshavin instead of Gerrard because Liverpool weren’t gonna score against Stoke. Again, I was just trying to explain that the differential excuse didn’t make sense

Did we ask you to tell us about your minileague woes? This isn’t a site where you have to get permission to post comments to people,

Chill Pill November 6 at 12:31 pm

You remember an argument we had pre season?

Jees, here’s me thinking that I was imagining you hanging onto my every word lol.

SammyC November 6 at 12:42 pm

Well, people tend to remember ridiculously stupid things they see, like I remember some mong wetting herself on the first day of school

Anyway I found it!

http://www.fantasyfootballscou.....ent-164095

Enough childishness from me now, sorry everyone who had to read through this. And Sorry ChillPill for trying to explain something to you without your permission :( No hard feelings

Chill Pill November 6 at 12:46 pm

I bet that’s not true Sammy….

Marknlard November 6 at 11:03 am

Torres and Gerrard are still in contention to play on Monday according to the Guardian.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/foot.....ool-injury

Glenn Johnson returns to light training. Really keen to see what’s going to be happening with him…

...al November 6 at 11:23 am

i swapped him out last night, i benched him twice since gameweek 5 which he stopped doing something, liverpool are all over the place, i had to get rid of him

even though he is a good attacking threat for them

davysteen November 6 at 11:05 am

will carlton cole be fit??

RoysBrotherJohnson November 6 at 11:11 am

are there rumours he’s ok ds?

...al November 6 at 11:22 am

hey may be in he may be not its still up in the air

Boss Hogg November 6 at 11:22 am

I’ve not heard anything about him being fit.
As far as I know he’s out for this weekend and the England-Brazil game.

Possibilty of being back for the 21st, but looking more likely that we won’t see him until early Dec.

Anyone heard any different?

...al November 6 at 11:31 am

not sure really im goin to start him on my team and have distin as sub no.1 makes good sence!

amrut November 6 at 11:10 am

need to choose between Shawcross and O’hara.
already have sorensen in goal though.
i know it’s been asked to the death but is there any news out yet on milner?

Hunter S. Thompson November 6 at 11:12 am

Should I play Hunt at home to stoke or Zamora away to Wigan?

Don’t laugh at the fact I have Zamora, it’s a long story.

Milan November 6 at 11:16 am

Hunt

Boss Hogg November 6 at 11:20 am

Hunt

...al November 6 at 11:22 am

I’d personally go for the big old bobby Z stoke are doing ok away from home this season and bobby z’s doin aok too

kernsy November 6 at 11:15 am

Johnson to Vermaelen OR Torres to VP

...al November 6 at 11:21 am

both!!

i pondered the vermaelen in for johnson transfer last night but went for hengeland in the end, afte rthe double ill get vermaelen in i think and torres seems to be a doubt too, problems taking a hit? already have drogs?

kernsy November 6 at 11:25 am

Problems taking a hit yep :) havnt done it so far so.

Drogs nope but Chelsea/United is a toughie, is it worth the hit to bring him in now?

I will probs play my WC after internationls which would include him.

...al November 6 at 11:27 am

yeah im not convinced with drogs with his tougherish fixtures but he can and probably will score against any team he plays so its a weird one, arsenal against wolves though, surely vp will score, torres to vp seems viable and arsenal are top form too

and take a hit, its not that bad!

ill be a bit pissed if johnson plays this week but then again im glad to have no liverpool plays at the same time

Boss Hogg November 6 at 11:21 am

Torres to Percy

MrSty November 6 at 11:21 am

Kernsey – I see you were saying that you’re off to Newcastle and won’t be able to change your team. Have you tried the FPL mobile site? Its low graphics and loads up in no time, I’ve used it a few times now to make last min subs on a Sat morning.

Torres to VP btw

kernsy November 6 at 11:26 am

Cheers buddy,

My phone is cack gettin new one ASAP so 35 minutes and counting.

I’m starting to sway towards Verm now……what to do what to do:(

MrSty November 6 at 11:30 am

BTW – Just checked CTC Verm should go up tonight and Johnson down.

...al November 6 at 11:33 am

johnson was set to go last night but didnt, but id imagine both of those changes will happen tonight indeed

Marknlard November 6 at 11:40 am

Does CTC take his red i into account?

Andy November 6 at 11:43 am

It does Marknlard, if he didn’t have the red flag he’d only need about 25K NTO, but CTC has it marked at 60k (I think, from memory) so if he’s near that 60 mark I guess he is near to going down – as long as they have the spell of protection down right.

...al November 6 at 12:46 pm

i forgot about the protection thing oops

ahackin November 6 at 11:27 am

How about johnson to Gibbs (potential assists and same CS potential as Vermaelen) to free up cash to have RVP as third striker. You will have Torres, RVP and Bent. Nice. I’m looking to adopt this same strategy to get Drogba, RVP and Bent up front.

kernsy November 6 at 11:40 am

Can’t afford it by .2 but I will be playing my WC after the internationals.

Ok here goes Johnson to Vermaelan and my first points hit Torres to VP

Cheers gents for all your help.

davysteen November 6 at 11:22 am

anyone got a weaket team than this this gw??

robinson
gallas a cole evra
dunn o’hara arshavin taylor
c cole adebayor(c) agbonlahor
(hart,distin,alexander,geovanni)

davysteen November 6 at 11:23 am

weaker**

Boss Hogg November 6 at 11:24 am

I think Phil Brown has a weaker team this gw and every gw.

RoysBrotherJohnson November 6 at 11:24 am

this guy reckons cole starts for west ham?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/spo.....eview.html

Andy November 6 at 11:27 am

They also have Stanislas starting ahead of Collison (no chance in my books), and Ilunga playing too when he picked up a hamstring injury as well – there’s no way two hamstrung players can recover in 3 days.

We’ll have more proper news from the West Ham camp later. It’s possible, but I’d say that is out-dated and inaccurate myself.

Milan November 6 at 11:32 am

Agree that this article gives us nothing certain. But on the brighter note, Zola talked only that they SUSPECT on harmstring injury, not that it was ever confirmed. :-)

RoysBrotherJohnson November 6 at 11:49 am

yeah, i recko n so, but that article was put up this morning so ye never know folks- i hope hes back- this is one of the main fixtures i bought him 4- a tired, shite everton defence

Boss Hogg November 6 at 11:27 am

He’s also got Tomkins in the team, despite the fact that Da Costa started the last match and did well.

…and Ilunga who is injured.

I think he’s either p*ssed or he wrote it on Tuesday. ;)

seluj November 6 at 11:27 am

The Court of Arbitration for Sport have granted Chelsea’s request to suspend their transfer ban.
http://www.skysports.com/footb.....60,00.html

Fookin’ disgrace.

Andy November 6 at 11:29 am

Why is it? I’m not a Chelsea fan so I don’t care either way, but they’ve done it for other teams in the past so have set a legal precedent so there was always a very strong chance that this would happen.

It doesn’t mean they won’t get a ban, it means they won’t get a ban until their appeal is heard – often like most cases in sport. I don’t see the problem myself, if they’re guilty they still will be in trouble in the end.

seluj November 6 at 11:34 am

I know I know, my comment was ironic which obviously didn’t translate well. :)

Boss Hogg November 6 at 11:30 am

Standard procedure unfortunately.

They have to grant them an appeal, during which time the transfer ban cannot be enforced.

And there was me thinking Danny Sturridge looked like a decent prospect during the African Nations. Now they’ll probably go out and sign someone else.

Fray Bentos November 6 at 11:42 am

It’s a stay of execution. this season will now go okay for them, and expect them to go transfer crazy in January as they will then miss next summer and following January instead – next season will be very tough for Chelsea

Marknlard November 6 at 11:32 am

Bolton chairman is proposing a second tier Premiership….

http://www.guardian.co.uk/foot.....n-gartside

…to protect clubs like his from getting into such strife should they get relegated. How about sorting your own mess out first, Phil?! Clubs like W Brom are well run and can cope with relegation.

Someone like Bolton should be looking to ensure finances are fairer throughout football, as they are the kind of club who’ll be boned if they get relegated.

Andy November 6 at 11:41 am

He’s been talking about it for well over a year now and getting little traction, because the big (and big-ish) teams have no reason to back it so I don’t think he’ll ever get the support he requires.

But I don’t see how an EPL2 will be good for money anway – unless they share the pot with EPL1, no-one will pay that much for 30 odd gameweeks of Bolton vs Wigan type matches.

I’ve thought very little about it, and I see giant flaws just writing this now, but my proposal for change would be a Scottish Premier League Model (but much more teams, less repeat fixtures).

26 team league, each team plays each other once (don’t know how work out who gets home game – like I said, flawed argument!), then it splits into two leagues of 13 and each teams plays each other once more – this time playing the opposite of whether were home/away prior. The money can still be equally shared, more teams can be in the “Premier League” and for the money/tv men your Chelsea/Utd/Arsenal etc only have to play Burnley once – but they (your Burnley’s etc) still get to share the tele spoils.

Feel free to pick holes in that, I know it’s full of holes.

Chill Pill November 6 at 11:42 am

He has tried this before and failed, this won’t happen.

Marknlard November 6 at 11:52 am

Yeah he has tried before unsuccessfully, so this is the watered down version. I think it’s along the lines of the 39th game plan. It’s got a chance of happening, but not as per the original proposal. Money (or in this case, the fear of not having any) will be the big factor. I’d be surprised and very disappointed if it happened, but the Celtic/Rangers thing is the unique selling point.

Andy, yes the fact that none of the fixtures in Prem II will likely involve a team from the size of Spurs/Villa/Everton upwards is the main drawback to getting a TV deal. Doubt this bothers Phil though, any old safety net from doing a Leeds/Bradford/Southampton will do.

Dino November 6 at 12:04 pm

there would still be the potential to have those bigger teams in there. If you look at the championship and league two at the minute there are some well established (you know what I mean) historic clubs in there such as leeds, newcastle, boro, forrest, sheffield utd and wednesday (remember them?), derby, leicester, norwich, barnsley and I am sure there are more. My point is that these clubs all have big fan bases and could command decent tv money if they were not playing some of the dross in their league.

I can see where he is coming from but I dont really see it happening either. There are too many vested interests (i.e. top four) to have a scottish team take one of the champs league spots imo.

Marknlard November 6 at 12:25 pm

Too true Dino, there’s a lot of clubs who have imploded despite a strong fanbase. The likes of W Brom deserve far more credit than they ever get for being sensible.

Dino November 6 at 12:30 pm

Yes I agree, and it is not easy to run a premiership club on a championship wages but they dont ever seem to over extend themselves. I still think they would be in trouble if they had not sold so many players after their relegation before last and then again this year if they do not get promoted this year then the parachute payments drop and they might just go the way of leicester and norwich.

I dont think any club is immune to the wage gap between premiership and championship and it might be no harm to look at ways of trying to soften/close that gap for the financial stability of the leagues

Marknlard November 6 at 12:35 pm

Relegation is a problem for a lot of clubs, Dino.

Which takes me back to my original point- if you’re the chairman of a club who is a real relegation risk, then proposing a system that being relegated out of would cause even bigger problems isn’t sensible!

Dino November 6 at 1:34 pm

sorry MnL got called away with work there (I know inconsiderate employers! do they not realise there is more to life than work???).

I think what he is proposing is a system which although there would be less clubs at the top table there would be less of a budget gap between the have’s and the have not’s.

Makes sense to me :)

razmo November 6 at 11:34 am

Hi Guys,

Posted this earlier btu got little response – any help would be greatly appreciated:

Hey Guys,

Team is as follows:

Sorenson (Hart)
Song, Turner, Dunne, Wilkinson, Distin
Lampard Lennon Boateng Elliot Fabregas
Saha V.Persie Diamanti

Thinking of changing Lennon to Dunn and Diamanti to Zamora this week and then playing 3-5-2 (with Saha not fit but saving him for DGW).

What are peoples thoughts on this please!? need some help!! thank you!

Boss Hogg November 6 at 11:36 am

Saha may be fit I think.

Diamanti may not start. I think Zola might go with Hines and General Franco.

The Lennon to Dunn move is sound though.

razmo November 6 at 11:38 am

What makes you think Saha may be fit? Nowhere in sight last night!?
Any other suggestions for different moves?

Chill Pill November 6 at 11:40 am

I think Saha will be fit as he had the same injury last week but still got a 20 min run out, maybe Moyes didn’t want to push it for Thur as the weekend is more important.

...al November 6 at 11:36 am

diamanti has to go! that would be my priority no.1 but dunn in is also a nice buy not fully fully sold on zamora though, but might be worth a punt i had him for months last season

afraid of point hits?

razmo November 6 at 11:37 am

not afraid, that plan would cost me 4 points. Just dont like to do it every week.
Better option than Zamora based on fixtures?

...al November 6 at 11:43 am

im thinking about making the dunn switch this week too, not sure if i wana spend points on it or wait till next week, its a zinger alrite, i would also like a kfc for lunch

zamora probably has the best fixtures and the double so it is a decent viable option alrite, not sure what the status is on lennon though im afraid, ill trust ya to do the right transfer ;)

razmo November 6 at 11:44 am

Thanks guys – as always much appreciated! i hope i do the right thing!

Chill Pill November 6 at 11:47 am

I spent the points purely because its Portsmouth at home leading to the double so I’m confident he’ll make it back.

Points hits are easier to do when you know a double is round the corner and it leaves me 1 more free transfer for another potential double player next week.

Boss Hogg November 6 at 11:39 am

Any Louis Saha news anybody?

Will he start this weekend?

laziale November 6 at 11:51 am

With Fabregas and RvP on my team i’m leaning towards Adebayor or Drogba as captain this GW.

Is it too insane?

Thanks.

Boss Hogg November 6 at 11:56 am

Depends on how risky you want to be.

Fabregas is the obvious choice.
Drogba is a decent outside bet and may well have success against Brown and Evans.
Adebayor should score decent points…as long as he starts.

It’s quite a nice problem to have, and whichever choice you go for you could end up with 30-40 points from just the 3 of them.

Bedknobs and Boomsticks November 6 at 12:01 pm

With Fab and RVP, I’d go with Adebayor as you already have Arsenal’s attaking points well covered. I’ve got Fab and Ade, but no RVP, so I’m leaning towards Fab to protect myself if Arsenal get a monster score.

Monster Masch November 6 at 12:07 pm

I have Fab and Ade as well and even though Fab will score well im prepared to take a gamble being 60pts behind so Ade it is for me – wish me luck :)

laziale November 6 at 12:03 pm

Yeah, last week i was also struggling with the choice but went with my earlier feeeling and choose RvP. Was spot on.

This GW is the same struggling…
Altough Arsenal players should be the obvious, i don’t see them rolling all over Wolves (just 60 min should be enough).
With that in mind, Adebayor home back from injury, with City in the need of a victory should socre 1 or 2; on the other side Drogba should be the key element on the Chelsea side that i see winning by 2-0 or 3-1 against a Man Utd side that is not that great defensively.

Tough choice…

SammyC November 6 at 12:04 pm

Yeah I have those Fab, Drog and Ade too, It’s on Fab atm but I’m gonna put it on Ade later if I’m confident he’ll play most the game, even Robbie Keane got 4 goals against Burnley at home, it’s too hard to ignore that fixture!.

I wouldn’t have the balls put it on Drog this match in a million years, however good form he’s in and bad form Utd’s defence are in, it’s still a match against the 3 time consecutive champions with the best defence in the league last year, and who are currently 2nd. I hope I’m wrong though and that Drog destroys them!

Slasher November 6 at 12:08 pm

You have the four of them!!!!!!

Marknlard November 6 at 12:14 pm

laziale, your points hits this season have certainly been insane!

I love that after taking 16, 20, 24, 24, 28 and 32 point hits, you use your wildcard for just 5 transfers!

laziale November 6 at 12:15 pm

Yeah. Rookie season…

Next year will be better.

Marknlard November 6 at 12:22 pm

Cut down on them laziale (looks like you have done) and you’ll be making steady progress up the rankings. You’ve got a good team now.

laziale November 6 at 12:26 pm

Yeah, that´s the plan. Stop getting hit points.

Cheers.

Dino November 6 at 12:17 pm

well spotted MnL that is impressive (if not advisable). I think it gives a whole new meaning to taking point hits, hey go easy there son you are doing an Iaziale on it :)

blokeee fc November 6 at 1:03 pm

ha ha ha some hits the biggest ive ever seen

jesse November 6 at 11:59 am

is there anyone who is NOT planning to do anything about the DGW and carry on business as usual?

Qubit November 6 at 12:06 pm

Well i already have Dunn. I might be bringing in Dempsey, mainly for decent fixtures and might (more unlikely) be bringing in a Fulham defender.

That will be 3 at most and only because the fixtures are reasonable
for a little bit, double might be a bonus (although last weeks double turned out to be a disaster for most!)

SammyC November 6 at 12:12 pm

Exactly the same as me! Have Dunn, got Dempsey yesterday, and getting Hangeland next week! The Everton double doesn’t interest me at all (Utd game will just be 2 or less points for every player most likely) then you’ll have to ship them all out, and Hull are just rubbish

jesse November 6 at 12:18 pm

i’m getting that ’sod it’ feeling. already have dunn, distin and hunt. thinking of bringing in maybe a couple more fulham guys but i’d have to shift a ton of players(and lose points) cuz my ultimate goal is to have lampard in my team without touching my forwards and fab.

so yea..sod it with the fulham guys. i’ll just save my transfer next week.

SammyC November 6 at 12:23 pm

It does make it more fun when your players play twice though!

Marknlard November 6 at 12:28 pm

I am NOT planning to do anything about the DGW and carry on business as usual.

chris81 November 6 at 12:31 pm

Always keep half an eye on it but there are only a few players that look like good bets.
Brought Dunn in this week for Portsmouth and good fixtures beyond.
Will possibly bring in Zamora or Saha for double gameweek and transfer back out after.
Question is – give me your thoughts guys – do I play Myhill in front of Sorenson for double GW?

Qubit November 6 at 12:00 pm

Given that ive got Cole and Milner very likely out should i swap Arshavin and Cole out for RVP and Dempsey? Seems like a good move to me. Otherwise im likely to have to play Evra and or Taylor (assumign he’s not dropped again)

Milan November 6 at 12:03 pm

Sounds like an ok idea.

WeWuzRobbed November 6 at 12:03 pm

Hey guys. Got a bit of a quandry thgis gw. Need to play two of Dempsey, Zamora, Noble, A. Cole and Baines. Which two do we reckon should go in for this week?

Boss Hogg November 6 at 12:12 pm

Cole and Dempsey.

With Zamora, Noble and Baines on your bench in that order.

Having said that, if the West Ham-Everton game has a penalty-happy ref, you’ll be kicking yourself.

Hobo November 6 at 12:08 pm

Hi Guys,

I’ve hung on swapping Johnson for Vermaelen but I’m finally losing patience with Johnson’s injury/liverpools leaky defence.

I’ve had in in since day 1 so I would like to stick with him but what do you think – should I do it?

Thanks

Boss Hogg November 6 at 12:13 pm

If it’s a free transfer, yes.

Keith November 6 at 12:34 pm

dont get vermaelen. maybe get evra next week or hangeland. arsenal wont keep many clean sheets. evra is the better bet long term

reavo99 November 6 at 12:25 pm

Your opinions please……….

option A

Kuyt — Fabregas — Wright-philips — Arshavin

Rooney — Drogba

OR

option B

Fabregas — Wright-philips — Noble

RVP — Rooney — Drogba

HELP ?????????????

Keith November 6 at 12:32 pm

so basically it’s
Kuyt + Arshavin
OR
Noble + RVP??

stay away from noble. Dunn, Reid, Dempsey are far better

Keith November 6 at 12:33 pm

and seeing the rest of your team would help for recieving good advice

chris81 November 6 at 12:35 pm

Option B – but would probably change Noble to Dunn and next week Wright Philips to Ballack

Crushing_It November 6 at 12:27 pm

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether Petrov will start this week. Also what happened to Duff and is he likely to astart too?

My Team right now
Sorensen
Vermaelen, Dunn, Wilkinson
Fab, Petrov, Duff, YOung
RVP, Drogba, Agbong

Any thoughts would be appreciated?

T.

Keith November 6 at 12:33 pm

Duff’s injured and could be out for a while. Petrov startin is always gonna be a coin toss

Dave Boozle November 6 at 12:37 pm

The tweet says Duff might be back for the weekend. He’s an alternative to Dempsey for the DGW.

m_reid88 November 6 at 12:35 pm

any sugestions who i should replace milner and bridge with? or should i take a chance that they both mite play?

blokeee fc November 6 at 12:38 pm

hi lads i did a bobo this week as you can see should i take a 8 point hit and get torres out now for van persie

Commander Makara November 6 at 12:39 pm

Right. Thinking of keeping Torres as he playing Monday night and should give him max time to recover.

Milner? Sounds like he might not make it.
Already got Dunn in and not sure who to replace him with? May keep him on the bench?

blokeee fc November 6 at 1:12 pm

how do you know hes playing i heard hes gone back to spain to have a second opinion on a hernia if he does play i cant see him staying the full 60 mins

philboy November 6 at 12:40 pm

**First time poster- really glad I found this site***

Who should I play this week out of o’Shea (che) or Bowyer (liv)?

Any help is much appreciated!

Jonny November 6 at 12:56 pm

Bowyer for me.

The Rock November 6 at 1:09 pm

i dont see eother playerscoring highly but i would still go for O’she out of the two

Milan November 6 at 12:44 pm

Silence all the way for C.Cole and Milner. This could mean that Cole’s injury is really not that serious.

Brightside November 6 at 12:46 pm

or it could mean they’re both pretty serious such that they’re for sure out this week and not worth talking about.

NotoriousDRE November 6 at 12:46 pm
Milan November 6 at 12:50 pm
Louie November 6 at 12:56 pm

They are calling Carlton Cole’s injury a knock not a hamstring now, dare I dream this is true? My thoughts go out to people who spent four points bringing him in and have already shipped him out for another four point hit…

RoysBrotherJohnson November 6 at 12:50 pm

see my posts above

razmo November 6 at 12:56 pm

Hmmmm – that everton preview doesnt even mention Saha??

Boss Hogg November 6 at 12:59 pm

Jealousy, turning saints into the sea,
Swimming through sick lullabies,
Choking on your alibis,
But it’s just the price I pay,
Destiny is calling me,
Open up my eager eyes,
Cos I’m…
NORMAN WHITESIDE

Louie November 6 at 12:59 pm

My thoughts, for what they are worth, are that Saha was rested last night ahead of the weekend’s premier league game. Him not being on the bench is irrelevant in terms of his injury as I believe Moyes would have omitted him from the teamsheet even if he were fit. Hope this helps, I would start him and use auto bench…

razmo November 6 at 1:01 pm

Thanks Louie – my worry with this is if he comes on for 15 minutes like last week and I end up with just a 1 point return from him!

saibaman November 6 at 12:45 pm

Currently i have a dilemma.. i bought vermaelen (at 6.6$) and bent (at 7$) .. both of them have grown astronomically since then but the problem is i have to lose one of them to find an upgrade path to lampard .. can somone tell me who drop to get lampard im not sure which one i should myself! any help will be appreciated

...al November 6 at 12:48 pm

hmm shud i bring dunn in this week or drop duff/diaby for him, i may get rid of diaby for dunn, if i come home drunk later on, ade will be my captain and dunn will be on my team i bet

Commander Makara November 6 at 12:49 pm

Any views on the best budget defender for the coming weeks?

...al November 6 at 12:51 pm

any stoke or fulham players are good

maybe gibbs! …but yeah those 2 teams stick out for defence reasons for the next few fixtures or so

Dave Boozle November 6 at 12:53 pm

i’ve got the same dilemna and am looking at paintsil over gibbs. fulham’s next 5 in 4 GWks are very tasty, whereas l’arse have a tough 4, and have only kept one cs more.

CollinsPED November 6 at 12:52 pm

Gibbs for will play at left back for Arsenal while Chichy is injured

Alexander takes Burnleys penos but i wouldnt start him unless he’s at home

Commander Makara November 6 at 1:08 pm

Got Alexandra already :-)
Yeah was thinking Hangeland, he seems to be worth the extra for the bonus points? Although maybe Evans or Gibbs?

Commander Makara November 6 at 1:10 pm

You may of read my Alexandra goals per game comparison last week to Giggs. I’m sure Mark must have!!!! ;-)
Get in there Xander my son! Although he’ll be on the bench this week!?

CollinsPED November 6 at 12:50 pm

Right lads,

My current starting 11:
Sorensen
O Shea, Collins, Distin
Fabregas, Lampard, Dunn, Cahill
Drogba, Bent, Cole

Should i replace Cahill and Cole with
(A) Dempsey & Saha?
or
(B) O Hara/ Bowyer(Which one?) & Van Persie?

Cheers

The Rock November 6 at 1:01 pm

B, and go for O’Hara out of them two

Commander Makara November 6 at 1:22 pm

That team looks good to me. Would it be a 4 point hit?
Leave Cole in there. He will outscore Saha this season.
Cahill may be good for the next few weeks, He’s got the Double also.

CollinsPED November 6 at 1:39 pm

Thanks lads, I took the 4 point hit and bought O Hara & Van Persie

Have lost patience with Tim Cahill this season, Have had him from the start and only once has he delivered.

Can sign another player next week for the DGW, Cant see Cole being fit for 2moro after that hamstring injury midweek

Milan November 6 at 1:40 pm

You kept him all this time, and sold him now, when he will get you first profit next week?

CollinsPED November 6 at 1:45 pm

He probably will. Time will tell

Commander Makara November 6 at 2:53 pm

Why bother asking our opinion!? ;-)
Good luck then PEDY!

Marknlard November 6 at 1:04 pm

This amused me…

Kuszczak says that VDS doesn’t like him.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/foot.....an-der-sar

And Fergie says, naaaaaah! He was only joking, it’s the way the Poles tell ‘em!

http://www.guardian.co.uk/foot.....zczak-feud

Milan November 6 at 1:06 pm

Read that earlier. It’s hilarious.

Boss Hogg November 6 at 1:06 pm

This reminds me, I was talking to a mate the other day about the Haye/Valuev fight in Germany this weekend. Because it’s £15 we were wondering who was on the undercard, and he reckoned they should warm up with Lehaman vs Oliver Kahn.

I would definitely pay £15 for that.

Stout scout November 6 at 1:09 pm

I need to bench 2 of these 3; in which order would you sequence them?
A. SEB
B. Duff
C. Hunt

Boss Hogg November 6 at 1:10 pm

Hunt to play.
Duff itching to get on the pitch.
SEB chewing gum and sulking behind the manager.

The Rock November 6 at 1:12 pm

yeah i would go with that order too

getmonkeyed November 6 at 1:28 pm

I think I’d go with Duff, Hunt, SEB.
You’ll want Duff to play if he’s fit, if not then Hunt comes on. Stoke will keep the clean sheet I think.

Chill Pill November 6 at 1:10 pm

Hunt, Duff, SEB.

roversnick November 6 at 1:11 pm

any stoke fans out there – why is tuncay not playing for you? how come pulis buys him but doesn’t play him??

Boss Hogg November 6 at 1:13 pm

Don’t know why he’s not playing, but they have a great chant about him, Robert Huth and Ab Faye.

Tun-cay, cay,
Huth, Huth,
Abdoulaye.

(To Kagegoogoo’s ‘Too Shy’)

...al November 6 at 1:12 pm

i have a sneaky suspicion duff wont be featured this weekend, im still wondering if i shud start him or bench him, at the moment he’s the last sub

Marknlard November 6 at 1:12 pm

What makes you say that, al?

...al November 6 at 1:17 pm

not sure just have a hunch! maybe it was a dream i duno, he can goeither way he might even play 45, but i duno not sure

and i added some more scandily clad women to the site

Louie November 6 at 1:18 pm

scandily, cross between scandalous and scantily i like it

Marknlard November 6 at 1:20 pm

Aahhhh, the hunch. Can’t remember the last time someone here had a hunch a player would be dropped that actually happened…

RoysBrotherJohnson November 6 at 1:20 pm

prob as ireland may have requested he not be risked if not 100% with the frogs round the corner

Marknlard November 6 at 1:20 pm

Who pays Duff’s wages?!

RoysBrotherJohnson November 6 at 1:27 pm

are you telling me Marknlard, that players are never rested for internationals if at all possible?? wake up.

Marknlard November 6 at 1:32 pm

Yes RBJ, I am saying that Ireland’s qualification probably isn’t the highest priority for Fulham!

Can you give me an example where a Prem club has rested a fit player specifically for an international?

If Fulham think he’s ok to play on Sunday, then they’ll use him.

RoysBrotherJohnson November 6 at 2:36 pm

it happens, if theyre not 100%, they tend to err on the side of caution (club managers) when there’s an important international on..The spanish do it for benitez dont they (sometimes? ) its a quuid pro quo thing, as all clubs want good relationships with international coaches. im perfectly aware of who pays his wages, and i think you’re point is moot and youre talking shite.

Marknlard November 6 at 2:46 pm

The Spanish do it for Benitez? So you’re talking about the countries resting/not risking players for clubs?

Yes, that happens. I’m talking about the other way round. A player may not be fit for a club’s game and then be available for the international a week later, but that’s called healing, not altruism! Top clubs, in general, hate international football; they see it as a source of injuries to players that they then have the pleasure of paying wages to. Hence the cases over the last couple of years of clubs seeking compensation from FAs.

If Fulham think he’s ok to play on Sunday, then they’ll use him. And if you think that is talking shite, then I don’t know what world you live in.

RoysBrotherJohnson November 6 at 2:51 pm

youre stating the obvious again. there has always been a two relationship in these things. i didnt disagree with you, i said if he’s not 100%, Hodgson might say rest up damien, youve a big game coming up for ireland- next shite friendly for ireland, he gets rested sas fulham are playing.

this is how the world turns- youre basically just telling me that hodgson will not in any take into account the international, so yes, youre talking shite by saying that.

now i couldnt be arsed discussing it anymore, its a two way relationship, and all good managers take everything into account, from fitness physical, to mental enthuusiasm of the player. i know exactly who pays his f**kin wages- its like youve taken offence on behalf of fulham that ireland might get slight preference over runniong on a possible injusry. Whish is more shite.

RoysBrotherJohnson November 6 at 2:53 pm

along with my typing! :-)

SammyC November 6 at 2:59 pm

Club managers resting players so they can play internationals at this stage of the season? You couldn’t be more wrong imo

RoysBrotherJohnson November 6 at 3:10 pm

i didnt say theyd fu*king rest him if 100% fit you contradictive twit.read it, and dont do your usual ” sammy C has to oppose people’s views for the sake of it”.

Marknlard November 6 at 3:21 pm

He’s only disagreed with one of us ;)

RoysBrotherJohnson November 6 at 3:30 pm

good point :-) (for once)

SammyC November 6 at 3:32 pm

“are you telling me Marknlard, that players are never rested for internationals if at all possible?? wake up.”

SammyC November 6 at 3:36 pm

And I don’t think it’s as really worth saying “OH YES I agree with everything you say”, otherwise 90% of the comments here would be people saying just that (because most people give decent views and information on here: Marknlard, Mfaulkner, Dino, the contributors etc). I usually only comment if I disagree with someone as it gives other readers a different viewpoint.

Chris de Borg November 6 at 1:25 pm

“Winger Damien Duff is set to miss out for Fulham as his Achilles injury has not yet healed.”

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/h.....340371.stm

...al November 6 at 1:29 pm

kinda hoping in a way he misses out this weekend myself, internationals next week against france, he will be badly missed at that, if we lose those match i will not be one bit impressed :( whatever way it works or whatever happens he just has to play the next international!

i dont know where scandily came from someone around here mentioned it before i just took it on board like noah to the arc

getmonkeyed November 6 at 1:32 pm

thanks for that Chris. I guess I’ll keep my transfer for next week..

PatMan November 6 at 1:13 pm

What’s your view on this?;
Is it worth to take a 4 point hit to transfer in a fulham player now, only to put him on the bench this round.
Or wait til after the internationals, so that I can keep an eye on injuries and performances in this upcoming round. The risk is then of course the possible price rise?

Boss Hogg November 6 at 1:15 pm

Only Dempsey likely to rise in the next few days.

I’d sit on it, and keep a close eye on CTC over the next couple of weeks.

PatMan November 6 at 1:25 pm

But once the transfer deadline is over, people will start throwing in DGW players, and their price will rise long before the next transfer deadline is. Which brings me back to my point, I will then be “pushed” to transfer in players to avoid a price rise without knowing if their fit for a DGW-

Boss Hogg November 6 at 1:26 pm

But you won’t sacrifice 4 points if you wait until Saturday lunchtime or beyond.

PatMan November 6 at 1:33 pm

But i probably will do a 4 point hit next week.

PatMan November 6 at 1:33 pm

But i probably will do a 4 point hit next week, if i don’t do it this week.

blokeee fc November 6 at 1:17 pm

shit i did it closed my eyes and clicked OK 8 point hit this week hope it pays off, off you go torres have that operation

tosey November 6 at 1:20 pm

what transfers did u make?

blokeee fc November 6 at 1:28 pm

hit my name youll see my team

...al November 6 at 1:30 pm

The players wont be in till the next gameweek starts and gets updated

Alan Partridge November 6 at 1:18 pm

With today’s Rio news and United’s upcoming run of fixtures – Evans looks like a dealorama. Think i’ll double up on ‘evs’ Evans and Evra.

Boss Hogg November 6 at 1:25 pm

Found out how many brothers and sisters Evra has the other day.

Jesus Christ, that man’s dad must get through some cigars.

Alan Partridge November 6 at 1:29 pm

Aye, 24 – enough for two teams and 2 subs to boot!

...al November 6 at 1:37 pm

24! jesus christ

Boss Hogg November 6 at 1:38 pm

Christmas must be a nightmare round the Evra house.

...al November 6 at 1:39 pm

i bet they all love getting presents from him

Boss Hogg November 6 at 1:40 pm

Thanks Pat. Tickets a Man Utd Carling Cup game….again.

Dhubanmonkey November 6 at 1:22 pm

I can’t decide – please advise

Dunn or Dempsey and why

roversnick November 6 at 1:27 pm

dunn
better player

tosey November 6 at 1:28 pm

depends if its just for the dbl gameweek? i have both but id say dunn is one to keep for a while at that price but dempsey would just be a short term fix until gw17 imo

Chris de Borg November 6 at 1:30 pm

Dunn doesn’t have the handicap of Bobby Z being his strike partner

The Rock November 6 at 1:38 pm

Dunn.. better fixtures for a while

Dino November 6 at 1:43 pm

now now Chris you are a good man for the stats so I would not have expected to see you shoot down bobby z like that.

Have you seen his points/min this year? uncannily similar to what he had a couple of seasons ago (although not quite as high).

Perfectly viable option imo

bantamdave November 6 at 1:47 pm

Dino, number of weeks since I have posted on this site. Would it be possible to have my apology now for your statement you made on this very site???

Dino November 6 at 1:59 pm

eh bantam? I cant remember posting anything to appologise about but sometimes I lose the run of myself.

If I have posted anything that offended you (and I dont think I would) then of course I appologise.

Seriously though what am I supposed to be appologising for???

bantamdave November 6 at 2:03 pm

After the Leeds Liverpool game you made reference to an event which happened at my club ( see club badge) and made a rather insulting statement in relation to the fire at my club. While I have heard it before, that said, the pain and memories are still no less today

Dino November 6 at 2:13 pm

Are you not sure you are mistaking me for someone else? I take it the bantams are bradford? leeds? but I dont really know anything about any fire at your club so I dont see how I could make any remarks about it?

I wish you could find the post as I really really dont think I said anything about anyone’s club and the way you descirbe “the fire” sounds like it was a tradegy in your club and even with rangers fans (my main team would be celtic) I would not stoop so low as to make fun of one of their tradegy’s.

Again if it was indeed me (and I cant see how it could have been) then I DO appologise

bantamdave November 6 at 2:15 pm

Maybe I took it out of context and if so, I apologise in return. That said, the comments are:

http://www.fantasyfootballscou...../#comments

bantamdave November 6 at 2:19 pm

That said, I thank you for your apology and with your acceptance, I would be grateful if we could draw a line in the sand and I/we can get back to the real issues surrounding this site

Dino November 6 at 2:28 pm

COMPLETE missunderstanding bantam!!!

What I meant was “Burn” as in the american slang for he got you there, or nice one and it was in appreciation of your comments not meant to be in any way defamatory.

I still dont know anything about the incident you are pertaining to but I am away to google it (and try and get firefox installed on my laptop) so as not to be so ignorant again.

Dino November 6 at 3:35 pm

Bantam I have just read up on the incident you thought I was refering to and it was tragic in every sense of the word.

I think those regular posters on here would back me up when I say that I would NEVER stoop so low as to make a joke of something so grevious.

I can see now also why Stuart McCall is such a legend down that way.

Ps I am sorry you took offence but let me assure you none was intended.

Marknlard November 6 at 3:44 pm

Dino, it was indeed an horrific and avoidable event.

Could have happened anywhere-indeed I know someone who went to games at 9 years old around that time and saw rubbish piling up under wooden stands (not Valley Parade, incidentally). He saw it as a fire risk then, so how no one else did is beyond me.

Dino November 6 at 3:56 pm

before my time MnL but I can see how a tradegy like that should not be forgotten as if we deny history then it inevitably repeats itself.

And it was only weeks before heysel, more people died in it and yet all I have ever heard of was the heysel and hilsborough tragedies?

Oh well I can see how some people would have taken my comment in the wrong context and I guess I will have to watch my words in future.

teddyshardlow November 6 at 1:27 pm

If anyone’s interested I have one of these adductor problems that Torres has. It’s not a hernia at all, it’s a strain at the point where the tendon attaches in the groin.

I’ve had it for months and months and it won’t go away. I’m not a professional sportsman, so the kind of tests and surgery that might help aren’t at my disposal, but I might look into the surgery option.

It doesn’t really stop me playing sport. It restricts my movement a little, but I can pretty much counteract that with physio, stretching, etc. But if I do play it gets worse and it can be pretty painful for a day or two after.
