As mentioned by Greek Fan’s tweets earlier, Chelsea have this afternoon confirmed that Jose Bosingwa has had surgery on his knee injury this week. The operation and associated rehabilitation will sideline the right-back for three months according to the Chelsea statement.
This is big news for fantasy managers as it confirms Ivanovic as Ancelotti’s first choice right-back. Belletti and Ferreira provide options but the Serb looks assured of starts ahead of them. Ivanovic is available as a mid-price option across the fantasy games, with a price tag of 5.6 in the Fantasy Premier League game….
Chelsea have Arsenal and City away to come in the next three but Wolves at home next gameweek looks a good bet for an immediate return. Chelsea follow thye City game with an extremely strong run of fixtures (EVE POR whm bir FUL hul SUN BIR bur). Ivanovic would seem likely to start many of those games with Bosingwa sidelined.

Hi guys great site and advice btw!
Would very much like your thoughts on the whole Ivanovic saga – with bosingwa looking to be out for at leat another two months that carrott in front of me just got a whole lot bigger lmao…
On the subject of the double Gw I already have little Bobby Z in me squad lining up alongside big Drog and V.P…..Dunn is my intended target midfield wise and Im desperate to palm off the non performing, points guzzling G.Johnson!
chrs guys
I’m gonna be getting him in for gameweek 16, can’t see much point getting him in right now. By then we’ll have a better idea of whether he’s the favourite for that position (pretty sure he is) too
“Yossi Benayoun and Albert Riera both ruled out for a month with hamstring tears.”
I bet Babel still doesn’t get a game!
If there wasn’t an international break cutting out the chance for a couple of matches, I would even have been tempted by Aurelio in my team.
Have’nt heard anyone mention stevie g on here…anyone thinkin of gettin him back in? he is bound to make a difference to liverpools fortunes if he is fully fit…
lampard and fabregas will be higher on peoples shopping list
true, suppose its a risk/reward thing, the fact that not many ppl will have gerrard now makes him appealing…
I have Fabregas and he’s a no brain keeper, Lampard too looks worth keeping given Chelseas run from GW16 onwards.
RVP however isn’t safe in my team for the season, and will probably, eventually, get the chop – and if it falls in a good time Gerrard is always (as is Torres) a consideration if he’s fit.
A half-serious question guys, who do you think will have a better chance of keeping 1 clean sheet this upcoming GW, Hull or Arsenal?
hull
Yeah, Hull.
Hull at least have two shots at it, I can’t ever see Arsenal keeping a clean sheet at the moment – and Sunderland are reasonably good in front of goal.
both are on pretty shaky ground imo.
If you looking to play a hull def or song I would go with the hull def I think but if you arelooking to play verm or a hull def then I think I would go with verm as turner will leave a huge gap in their defence.
Arsenal always seem to let in a goal, no matter how well they play.
I wonder how many games Arsenal have won to 1. i.e 2-1, 3-1, 4-1, etc…?
I bet it’s more than any other team over the past 4 or 5 years.
That’s why I will replace Vermaelen with (probably) Evra in a couple of weeks, Boss. Mr. Wenger appears to have had a word in his shell-like to curb his cavalier attacking instincts, thereafter he has become a waste of money.
I just watched a short report about Robert Enke. To be honest I didn’t know too much about him.
It was really quite moving to see the likes of Bierhoff in tears at the press conference.
Perhaps the saddest part was when his late wife was explaining how she used to go with him to training to support him as much as she could, and how Enke refused to seek help publicly for his depression for fear that the publicity would ruin his career.
In the end keeping it secret in many ways seems to have killed the poor fellow.
Quite the tragedy.
Hopefully the football world will wake up to some of the pressures that are on players.
No No No Churchill,
I think the pressures related far more to losing his child. That was what affected him ultimately not the pressure of playing football for club and country and earning millions.
Through all this, let’s not forget he has left a wife, who also lost a child and now has to live with losing her husband having committed suicide in addition to bringing up their adopted child on her own.
Her tragedy continues……
I find these “blazer brigade” international games increasingly frustrating.
Future of sports broadcasting handed to the sports minster. I have a suggestion – all England football/cricket/rugby games to be free to air, regardless of which country the game is taking place in. If you want the extra trimmings and are prepared to pay for it, fair enough.
Oh & root & branch reform for the FA please. Thanks Mr sports minster.
agreed
Sky did take sole rights for Irleand games a while back, but the government stepped in to ‘request’ it was on terrestrial TV here also and the FAI had to renegotiate the Sky deal. Now you have (most) Ireland games on Sky and one of our “amazing” (cough-cough) channels.
So Irish Government requested & Sky capitulated. Makes our Government look pathetic. Market forces my a@se.
NO – the football association gave in (a right bunch of money grabbing &*^%’s)
Wembley £800 mil, Emirates £400 mil. Something not quiet right eh?
In a round about way as a tax payer and an Arsenal season ticket holder I’m paying for both.
Martin have you been to the new Wembley? You can see why it cost more, not sure if it’s 400M more though.
I don’t know about Cricket & Rugby, but with football it’s just not possible to say all games can be free to air (the away games).
They are under the discretion of the host nations FA (or department of such ilk), so they just sell it to the highest bidder, which is their right – we can’t do anything about it, our bodies have no right of control over it. I assume it is pretty similar across the other sports too, but don’t know.
How did the last England game come to be shown over the internet?
Ukranian FA sold it to the highest bidder (a media rights company called Kentaro). They had then sold it on for a tasty profit to Setanta, who subsequently went under themselves.
So when no-one offered them (Kentaro) what they felt was enough money when the game reverted back to them once more – they went about finding a company that would distribute it over the internet for them.
Well that’s just pants.
Andy if you get a mo, can you have a peek at my chaps. After rolling around in laughter, reckon Hangeland in for Richards is a decent move?
you have 2 DF suspended for next GW and one who is slight doubt.
It’s not a bad idea to get Hangeland in, but you need to see who for after the international break – bridge might get a game (and you’d have a DF playing for a team that hasn’t lost in 5 against a team that has only 1 win in 9 – it could be worse for you)
I myself could make an argument for selling any single member of your five man defence, to my tastes it looks… horrible.
So buying Hangeland seems fine to me given the double, but you will logically probably have to move him on soon after too – which is fine for me buying him as the rest of my personal, defence I am happy with – but if I still had that defence it would leave me with 5 defenders I want to lose.
I would sell (at least) a couple this week.
Thanks Andy I appreciate it.
my team
sorenson
dunne verm scharner zayatte (faye)
dunn fab bullard milner ( kuyt)
saha drogs (c.cole)
any opinions? do i need to make any changes for my team?
Looks ok this week, my only advice (and it’s quite a personal preference) would be to get in another big player at some point
I think if Cole is fit that you will want him on the pitch – maybe for Scharner (or do you expect him to score away??).
More chance of Cole getting you 6 points.
Kuyt may also be a waste on the bench. Liverpool will have to get a result to keep the hounds away from the door. I’d consider Verm or Dunne on the bench for him/
Other than that, you’re just hoping the internationals don’t hurt you.
yeah. main reason why im putting scharner in is because hes playing in the attackind midfielder role, which may get him some goals. dont rly see ars getting a cs against sunderland thugh.
should i play saha or c.cole?
If you don’t see ars CS, and Verm hasn’t been scoring goals, you may want to give that some thought in the next few days – especially as Sunderland are capable of scoring (even in defeat – I think they’ve only failed to score in 2 games so far this season).
As Saha has the DGW – you really gotta stick with him – it’s probably the main reason you got him. He may want to prove himself at OT, and Utd have not yet built up their fortress attitude (it’s coming soon though!).
Cole = Goal. If it were my team, I’d have him in (and I do).
milner kuyt out, lampard and a cheap midfielder in
alerady made a transfer from barry to bullard, worth an 8 point hit though?? kuyt is going to play an attacking role from now on it seems
I’m not going to bother with Bullard now, just can’t transfer Arshavin out to do it.
Did Cole to Hangerlaand, next week i’ll do Distin to Evra and the following week i’ll do Hangerlaand to Ivanovic, works out quite well for me.
i think it is, i fully expect lampard to be the top points scorer this season
tweet has lamps ruled out for england. I’d check out that first
dino i am pretty sure/hopeful that is just a “i really dont want to risk getting injured in this friendly” injury
or cappello not wanting to show his best hand against potential rivals next summer tosey?
So do I, people can say what they like about him but if you look at his history he maxes out at 12 goals and 12 assists in each of the last 3 seasons (taken from highest marks) and so far this year with only 12 games gone he is on 4 goals and 7 assists so he is on course to better each of the last 3 seasons.
the only reason people are not rating him as a must have this season is there are more players with pts/gm ratio’s of 6.5 or higher so far this year than any year I have been playing (is it playing? surely more serious than that
) this game.
Once the likes of drogba come back down to a lot more normal avg, say rooney’s avg of 5.5pts per game then lamps will become a lot more tempting.
The other side of it is that he is 1.0m more than last year also though! but the reason you pay a premium for these guys is that they are ultra consistent and will seldom let you down as a capt choice.
hi all
do you think it worthwhile to sell a.cole for ivanovic for a 4pt hit (dont worry, not yet, Ill wait). He is much cheaper and should start most games. Plus I think he is quality and will score as many attacking points as a.cole.
my plan is to sell distin for evra after the DGW (I have just enough money). Thereafter I could get ivanovic for cole (cant have both since lamps and drogs are there as well), or make some other transfers to strengthen my team (I kind of have these planned). I feel ashley cole is miles better than ivanovic as a player though (best left back in the world? – and no, I aint a chelsea fan).
What do you guys think? At <6 is ivanovic a must have, or would you stick with a.cole?
Should I double up on the Stoke defence this week (Shawcross and Soresen) or play Jensen? Or alternatively take a 4 point hit to bring in Carvalho/Ivanovic?
Rejoice, no Celtic or Rangers in the PL.
if it was ever to happen, they should be made do it via the Conference
We dont want them in the English Premier League. If we can choose lets have dutch teams, ridiculous argument. Send the welsh teams back to their own league too. the welsh and the scotch are constantly moaning about the english!
Why did they think our league owed them anything anyway and we don’t need their religeous disputes coming down here.
You don’t want them in the Premier League, I personally would quite happily see Rangers and Celtic in there.
We’ve had Cardiff and Swansea for years without any great protest, it’s just because Rangers & Celtic have the small chance to actually maybe ‘disrupt’ the equilibrium a little bit. Scotland have the English Berwick (Rovers?) in their leagues anyway, why aren’t you asking for them back?
I’m all for their introduction if there is a sound plan.
How do you think they would do? No chance to ever finish higher than seventh or eight?
I am biased so dont really want to comment too much but “no chance to ever finish higher than seventh or eigth?” is a bit of a strong question/statement
With the same tv income as the bigger epl teams I would say a bigger fan base (for celtic at least but rangers could also make an argument for this) and the realisation of the comercial benefits of a wider audience it would not be unfeasible to see them challenging the top four positions within 6 – 10 years I’d say.
Again I think it is a pointless argument though as I can never see it happening.
Yeah, this.
With a solid financial ground behind them Celtic/Rangers could easily have the footing to be on par with the Villa/Spurs etc and then push onwards and upwards if ‘the stars aligned’.
Either way it makes no difference, it ain’t happening.
Gargamel, they would do no better then Newcastle and look how they are doing.
if they do join teh english league they have to start in teh bottom league or conference.
i fail to see why my team (bristol city) and many othe rlower league clubs who have been striving to break into the top league for years should be by-passed
so if tehy are to join they have to be prepared to work their way through the leagues
don’t you mean ‘work tehir way’?
i dont know what to comment on first: the petulant reply, or the fact that you managed to post without promoting your new site…
That would be less ironic if you could sense the comedic tone or if you realised that I hadn’t promoted it once without it being a reply.
Much like this one, so thanks
What have I done now? LOL?
I have never mentioned tosey’s spelling before?
don’t you mean toyes’s
Apologies frank I thought it was you who was onto him about his teh spelling previously.
I think the keyboard (language translator) he is using is giving him the wrong spelling though.
i wish it was dino, i just seem to have got into teh habit of typing teh instead of the! rather annoying and have to correct it enough in work so on here i just dont bother!
Don’t worry tosey, it’s only a small error so if they take the mick it’s because you got them on the other stuff lol.
no probs tosey doesn’t bother me at all. I just found it amusing that it could still irritate someone after all this time.
I am the last one to talk when I would say there are typo’s in nearly every post I put up
shall we get Barcelona to join us too, and Ajax and Lyon?
Teams should play in their DOMESTIC league not a nearby one that they think is a bit better.
Make you right, the Scottish hate England anyway and want seperation from it so play in their own league.
Why should they? Because history dictates that to be the case? There is n
Sometimes history can be wrong – we need to move on and evolve. I understand there are many people who don’t want things like this, but I am all for it.
And as a Leicester fan who hopes one day to get back in the Premiership I probably “shouldn’t be”, as there’s two other teams easily capable of keeping that out of reaches even more – but I am.
Why shouldn’t they? because they have not been invited and because there are 70 or so other teams in our football league working hard to get into the main league, what is the point of their exsistance if 2 teams can be plonked into our league because they think they are bigger then their own league.
completely disagree – its not about evolving or history being wrong its about 2 teams who play in a league that is equivalent to our league 2 standard thinking they are better than they are and that they can change the rules as they want.
If you think that Celtic and Rangers should join the premier league then you are basically advocating a Euro Super League (because that is where it will end up) and our domestic league will be in tatters (like the scottish one is now)
Spot on Funkyav, I have seen both rangers and Celtic in the last few months and I’ll be honest West Brom looked better in the Carling Cup.
I think it might be heading that way funky.
I could see in time a super league of european teams as the constant drive to seek new revenue streams in order to maintain debt (and position) by the top clubs seems to be pushing things this way. I mean if people stop signing up for sky sports due to the recession and the top players playing in other leagues (due to the higher tax rate in the uk) then the next tv deal could be a lot lower and how then do say utd and liverpool service their huge debts?
I could see a scenario of a horrendus spiral of less money to buy players due to less tv money and because the quality of players is reduced then the next tv deal is worth even less, sponsorship falls etc etc
I would not write off anything funky as the levels of debt in the epl is amazing. “despite record revenues which dwarf all others in world football, the FA Premier League is a financial mess. For season ending 2008, the last for which full details are available, 17 out of 20 clubs returned a loss and 11 were insolvent, surviving on the generosity of creditors and benefactors”. Hard facts I am afraid which “us” fans do not want to see but this cannot go on forever.
Dino id there was a European Super League do you really see Rangers or Celtic in it?
Let’s be honest here, they have big fan bases but then so do Newcastle, would they get into it because of that?
In footballing terms they are no better then Hamburg or Real Betis.
maybe chill but I would hardly say newcastle have a fan base of say celtic never mind rangers. Newcastle while a club I always liked is a perenial club while celtic is a global brand.
That does not even take into account of the history of the clubs.
In footballing terms you are not comparing like with like as the budgets of the bigger leagues in europe have mushroomed over the years compared to scotland (not through any fault of their own as they just do not have the population base). Celtic (and rangers I think) were in the top 20 rich list of clubs in the world (might have only been europe) in turnover terms and this was with a measly 1.5-2m tv revenue and a serious handicap on their sponsorship rights due to the lack of tv exposure.
I dont think you are making a fair comparison of clubs when you compare celtic say with newcastle when their fan base would probably be just behind liverpool, man utd, real madrid and barcelona.
Anyway this is defo not a debate I want to get into with you as it is hard enough to convince you that you might be wrong on minor points never mind an issue of this magnitude.
lol Dino
What’s gone on 40 years ago means nothing when Rangers report a 12M loss and are on the verge of financial meltdown.
Obviously they wanted the move for one reason and one reason only, to milk the English premier League while in the process destroying the Scottish league, I know arrogance when I see it lol
Anyway mate, I’m out of this one, we could talk about the pros and cons all day but it’s simply not happening so that’s good enough for me.
Wouldn’t it be a bit harsh on all the other Scottish clubs if Rangers and Celtic jumped ship?
The SPL would end up on a par with the welsh league.
The Konica League of Wales – or is it now called The Principality Premiership? – is a fine footballing league with a unique claim to fame.
Which other national league can boast of not only having the club of their capital snub them, but also that of their second city, too.
true mf. But the current model is unsustainable with the budgets in modern european football.
I think you are seeing with rangers current spiralling debt (and they have hardly been exravagant making a net proffit on transfers like boumsong, hutton and cuellar etc.) that even their current modest spending cannot be sustained in the scottish league.
I think it is inevitable that the scottish league will go the way of the welsh if the equity gap between europe’s top leagues and smaller leagues continues to expand.
It’s not our problem Dino.
I’m not saying it is CP.
I am just trying to justify the reasons for their wanting to leave the SPL.
Where they go or how ths gets resolved I dont know. I dont think it will be in the epl so they are just going to have to get on with it for the time being imo
Sometimes life sucks but complaining about it doesn’t change it so you might as well just get on with it.
That’s capitalism unfortunately.
The model will have to change, or the same teams will just keep winning and winning and winning.
They should form a breakway with teams on the level ie from Norway, Iceland, Belgium and Sweeden.
That has actually been quietly mooted as well Chill (slightly different/more countries I believe), they’re calling it The Atlantic League.
Though who can bloody explain why it’s called that when all those countries basically border on the north sea I’ll never know!
If they can pull that off then good luck to them but to try and gate crash the winning lottery ticket is not good business for anyone but them.
MF exactly
Chill – as andy says this has also been mooted with teams from holland actually trying to push this through as they are falling way behind in the equity stakes also.
Andy – No idea why they are calling it that but it does look like the most realistic option imo. They reckon that the tv audience/population would be approx 80million which would put it up there with the top leagues in europe comercially. Whether celtic fans would be up for a game against molde say more than hibs/hearts/aberdeen would remain to be seen and also away fans would not be huge I would think which would probably lead to less match day revenue.
As with any proposal their will be pro’s and cons but I would gamble that celtic and rangers will not be playing solely in the spl in 20yrs time possibly even 10yrs time.
Haven’t read all the conversation – will do it later when I have more time – but as a Swede I can’t see a league like that happening.
It might be better if we want to compete, but plenty of people like the national league the way it is. Even if it sucks
It certainly does seem like the most viable of all options that have been “put out there” as of yet, like I said I would welcome Rangers/Celtic I still think this is the best and most appeasable option that has been even close to mention.
The away fans thing would be a bit of a shame to have to travel to copenhagen, then stockholm then brussells week in week out won’t be attracting half as many people – but the figurative television money should more than make up for that (in theory).
As talked in one of the pods (I forget which one) the Scottish, Swedish, Danish etc teams could still play in their national cup tournaments, in practice – though not being able to play Hearts etc regularly will be a bit of a ‘peeve’.
(A couple of the Swedish teams have apparently, ’secretly’ backed the idea of this league Gargamel)
Yeah I’ve read that as well Andy. Still I can’t see it happening really. It would be the death for football in smaller countries.
People love the game just as much everywhere, and the supporters of a team in Sweden (or other countries) takes as much pride in winning national things, or beating their neighbours/rivals, as English supporters do. That kind of values must come before economic ones and being able to compete in the Champions League.
Perhaps there is another way though, I don’t know.
gargamel this video backs up ur point…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vzqGB4WLkY
Interesting chat lads…apparently the mooted Atlantic League would include Portugese, Dutch and Belgian clubs…which of these clubs are actually interested is a moot point…they might have to operate outside UEFA initially at least…interestingly there is talk of South American clubs being involved too.
It’s worth noting this would be a midweek league. Celtic and Rangers would play their reserve teams in the Scottish League and they would still probably be the best teams. Most likely the Scottish league would be more competitive and more interesting for such a change.
Yes, nice one Funky, Welsh teams have been in the league longer than you’ve been around.
The Welsh clubs were not given special treatment though and put in the PL, they have had to work through the leagues.
What GW will the ANC have started?
my team:
Hart/Sorenson
Warnock/Faye/Bikey/Scharner/Dawson
Fabs/Gerrard/Dunn/O’Hara/Kuyt
Rooney/Drogba/Jerome
0.0 in the bank
Any tips or advise?
Torres – don’t know what to do. I would always want him in my team, and if I sell him now it will cost me money to buy him back in 3 weeks time. I have Rooney and Bent, though, so I could buy a value forward and get Fabregas in with the difference…..but Torres would still be the first name on my sheet when fit.
but you bought him at 11.5m and he is now at 11.5m.
You could only lose money if you replaced him with a player who is also dropping in value. So long as you just replace him with a forward (Drogs or RVP if you can’t bear to have a Chelski player), you will be okay.
It may even be that Torres will be 11.4m by the time you want him back, so you may actually make money!
I agree. I’m in the same situation. No money to lose, I’m looking at a 4 point hit, but I reckon Rooney will outscore my 1st sub choices by more than 4 points over the next 2-3GWs…
Hi guys any thoughts on my team?
Sorenson,Hart
Dunne,Evra,Bikey,A Cole,Shawcross
Milner,O Hara,Fab,Dunn,Geovanni
Bent,RVP,C.Cole
Any recommended changes?already transferred verm out for Evra
Any advice on my team below?
Sorensen Hart
Evra Dunne Alexander RJohnson Ricketts
Fab Diaby Hunt Dunn pienaar
Drogs RVP Ade
0.7 in the bank
I was thinking of swapping Dunne and Adebayor for Hangeland and Rooney. Worth the 4 point hit? Or should i forget about the double and look to strengthen elsewhere?
I should probably lose piennar, but having been stupid enough to hold onto him for so long i want to give him at least a chance of the double gameweek.
I’d save the Ade -> Rooney transfer for a couple of weeks, until Ade’s played Hull at home
now, if we can just have the views of SammyA and SammyB…
is the a nd b thing anything to do with cup size?
hey guys,my strikeforce at the moment is adebayor, rvp and rodallega…have 2.8 mil in the bank.if i sell vermaellen for hangeland,i can afford to get rooney in for rodallega…. good move?
Probably.
Can you get Cardinal Richlieu in?
who?! sounds like a sam allardyce signing
http://www.classickidstv.co.uk.....s#Villains
haha…memories
Cudichini has broken his pelvis on a motorbike!!!
http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/.....e-crash.do
doesnt sound good at all!
Sounds really bad, life changing they just said.
dont understand why anyone would want to ride a motorbike, the roads are dangerous enough as it is…im suprised he was even allowed to ride 1 being a pro footballer…i heard there were a lot of activities they were prohibited from doing if seen as a risk to their bodies…
After Matt Jansen (for a good example) lots of players have been banned from said activities.
Bin a while chaps, riding high in my mini-league as per! Now onto business…..WHEN THE F**K IS ZHIRKOV GONNA GET ON THAT PITCH? ANYONE?
With Cashley Cole now injured I feel I have some massive holes in my defense. Even with Dunne and Vermaelen in my back line I always feel a Chelsea defender is good value if nothing else for a clean sheet.
My dilemma is to sell Cole and either put in Carvalho, Ivanovic or perhaps steer clear and go with someone like Evra.
Another name to consider is J Terry but with only 1 goal and no assists this year i think money would be better spent up the paddock.
Any thoughts / comments????
