There are two places that you’ll find a list of fourteen footballers on a Friday night – on the door at China Whites in Leicester Square and on this ‘ere website. Sadly I can’t offer you a sneaky glimpse at Danielle Lloyd’s cleavage or a fight at two in the morning (you don’t know where I live, right?), but you might just get some extra ideas for your fantasy lineups instead.
Here’s my fantasy football guest list for another gameweek…
For once I had no trouble finding my back four and keeper this week. As I mentioned in yesterday’s meander, there’s no shortage of good clean sheet options on show in this week’s fixture list. After much deliberation, I pipped for Birmingham’s Hart in goal. This was a close call, with Stoke’s Sorensen and Tottenham’s Gomes both in contention. In the end I chose to go with alternatives from those two defences. As for Hart, he will come up against a West Ham attack without a real potent goal threat at St Andrews. A home clean sheet looks a decent bet and Hart is always good for a save point or two. The City loanee represents excellent value.
In front of him I’ve gone against my principles slightly and brought in Tottenham’s Dawson. Two goals in consecutive games for the lanky former Forest favourite has elevated him in my mind and possibly the mind of the Fantasy Premier League bonus point judges. Could he notch again at home to Wolves? It doesn’t seem likely, although a home clean sheet does look a fairly decent bet. Dawson is good value right now.
The Stoke City defence were exceptionally strong at the Britannia last season – this time around they are far less consistent but a home fixture against Wigan, a side who have scored just five goals in their last five away trips, offers some potential. Abdoulaye Faye is the club skipper and the best option while we wait for Shawcross to re-establish himself back in the Stoke starting eleven.
Burnley’s Alexander is always a good option given his penalty spot potency. Clean sheets could also be on the cards in the coming weeks now that Burnley’s fixtures have calmed a little. That could start with this week’s home encounter with Fulham.
The final back four spot predictably goes to a Chelsea defender. Nine clean sheets and a home game against a beleaguered Everton spells defensive returns. Ashley Cole is the most desirable option amongst their rearguard so he gets the nod here. Ivanovic is your cheaper option – he seems certain to start having been rested in the Champions League in midweek.
Don’t forget, for those inclined to a bet or two, you can get odds of 11/1 on Chelsea, Stoke and Birmingham to keep clean sheets this week with Paddy Power. I only mention it because last week’s clean sheet accumulator came in at 8/1.
The midfield proved a more problematic area. I’ve surely got to stick with Bolton’s Matt Taylor having backed him in the last two weeks. This time around he has a home game against a City defence that seems likely to concede at the Reebok. Bolton will have Davies back up front for this one; that should feed Taylor some more direct free-kick opportunities and give him a reliable target from crosses.
I’ve covered United’s potential attacking profits against Villa by drafting in Ryan Giggs. He is certain to start having been rested in the midweek Champions League tie. He seems set to take up a central midfield role with Scholes suspended and will be a key figure from set-plays. An assist and Fantasy Premier League bonus look the minimum we can expect if United prevail.
Burnley’s Chris Eagles provides a budget option in my midfield. The former United winger has been flying in recent weeks and, along with Wade Elliot, is likely to be their most creative force against Fulham on Saturday. I’m expecting a couple of goals for the host, with Eagles continuing in his fine fantasy form with another assist at the very least.
The final spot was a tough one. Tottenham’s Lennon was an obvious choice but then that would mean three Spurs players – something I just couldn’t allow myself. He still looks a strong option, although a Lennnon/Defoe combination is a lot of attacking eggs in one basket. There were also some expensive temptations in the form of Chelsea’s Lampard and the Arsenal pairing of Fabregas and Arshavin. All three are certainly worthy of consideration, but in the end I decided to gamble on a cheaper alternative. Sunderland’s Andy Reid will be a key figure in their home game with Portsmouth and should hog set-plays with Richardson out through suspension. The Black Cats need to recover some form and the home game against Avram Grant’s side seems a good starting point.
Up front it was between Defoe, Drogba and Darren Bent. All three have attractive home fixtures but unlike Bent, it was Defoe and Drogba that go into the weekend with form. Those two get the nod then with the promise of decent earnings against the Wolves and Everton defences respectively.
Bent remains a good alternative but I’ve chosen to cover Sunderland’s potential with Reid instead. This means that I’ve chosen to offer you a cheaper option on my bench. Birmingham’s Benitez goes into the next two home games with some form and is set to be the major threat to the West Ham back four this weekend.
Hull’s Geovanni is my midfield gamble. One of my Fantasy Island Risks from this week’s podcast – I had to back him with at least a place on my bench. He faces a decent looking home fixture with Blackburn which meant he almost made the eleven. Had it not been for his missing gameweek and stiff fixtures to follow, I may have been more bold and pushed his recommendation further.
As for my alternative defender, that honour goes to Sunderland’s Michael Turner. A forgotten man in recent weeks; Turner is still a big threat from set-plays and looks a very decent clean sheet option with Portsmouth in town although Sunderland will be fielding a patched up defence following a string of injuries.

Morning all
Several selection headaches today but mainly trying to choose between Milner and Stephen Hunt. Milner has been class for me but Blackburn at home is a far easier fixture than Man Utd away. Any thoughts? (my other midfielders are Giggs, reid and Fabs, and I’ve got Defoe, rooney and Drogba up front so no other real alternatives for who to drop).
Milner has been on form, although has not scored away form home and only 2 assists and playing Man U. So maybe better going Hunt at home,
Similar dilema for me, Big Man. I am playing Hunt for sure, but am torn betwen who to play between Milner, Evra and Bikey. If it was early season I would have played Bikey at home for sure, but they are leaking goals recently home and away.
The ManU game is a difficult one to predict – anyone clean sheet odds for Manu and Burnley?
Id go Evra
ManU much shorter odds – 2.26 against Burnley’s 3.4.
Hmm, ManU are odds on to keep a cleanie, whereas Burnley are 19/10. I will play Evra then. Now need to decide between the other two. Reckon I will take a punt on Bikey and drop Milner
D’oh! I was happy benching Evra and playing Milner and Bikey, but if Utd have good CS odds…
I have two choices for my defence:
A: Jensen/Cole/Ivanovic/R Johnson/Shawcross
B: Sorenson/Cole/Ivanovic/R Johnson/Scharner
With all five at home (and Scharner possibly playing deeper than usual), A is slightly preferable, but the fly in the ointment would be Shawcross not playing and having no Stoke at all.
Any thoughts?
I’d go A
A as Shawcross will prob play
BBC sport has Shawcross as fit. A personally.
Thanks everyone.
Thirded. Motion carried.
Hey.
Got Sorensen/Shawcross/Hangeland out mid-week. So looking to do Kuyt to Lennon this GW. Hangeland to Dann mid-week then Reid to Valenica for the weekend. Sound good?
Team at the moment -
Hart
A.Cole – Evra – Hangeland – Shawcross
Fabregas – Kuyt – Reid
Bent – Rooney – Defoe (c)
Bench : Dunn – OHara – Ricketts
Kuyt has three good games after Arsenal, although I also brought in Lennon this GW, so can’t fault your thinking in trying to gain some exposure to Tottenham for the Wolves game.
I think your plan seems sound, shagger.
Thats the only doubt for Kuyt, some good fixtures, but he hasnt alot for me and is expensive.
Yeah thinking ahead to my defence mid-week. Will only have Evra – A.Cole – Ricketts. Would like to get Hangeland out. So I dont have to play Ricketts.
Yeah, the Fulham blokes have to go. I’m currently weighing up whether it’s worth taking the 4-point hit to shed Konchesky this week for Ivanovich.
is it worth me just getting rid of Hangeland now ( As I have a transfer I use or lose….) for someone like Dann, only problem is that I will be doubling up on Stoke.
What are the chances of Dunn playing?
sorry I mean BIR
Okay going to think about it, but looks like I may stick to my plan above.
….its Done. Bye Dirk.
Who to bench out of Dunne, Bowyer or Jerome?
I would Dunne from them. Uneasy at playing 2 Brum, but I don’t see anything for Villa at OT and at least Birmingham might win.
thanks Anorak, at he moment i’ve got Jerome on the bench. Would do Dunne but after getting a goal last week it’s hard
Dunne – i’m doing the same – but I am edgy about giving him bech-warming duties
yeah i cant stand to have a defender with goal scoring opportunities and holding the DreamTeam star only to have him sat on my bench
Kuyt has 3 good fixtures after Arsenal. But Lennon would be good for this gw!!! Hangeland a must to go. Valencia has soem good fixtures coming up also. But you are paying more.
who to play from hunt (i dont trust him) vs sharner (attacking role)
Hunt
Hunt
There’s a thought that Scharner might be moved back a bit (see Mark’s team news). But I don’t know enough about Wigan to know if that’s likely.
I am keeping Hunt..! hope to get a hat trick.. (dreams are price less)
Have I got My 11 right?
Hart[Sorensen]
A.cole Evra Scharner[Bikey,Warnock]
Fab Dempsey Dunn Bowyer[O'hara]
Rooney Drog Defoe[c]
Good..! No Transfers??
Dunn might go auto sub ..
Don’t think Dunn is playing mate
BKR
DId Hunt>Bowyer early this week
Ya Dunn Might Autosub Bringing In Bikey or O’hara
The question is Which One of them should I have as 1st sub??!!
Also should I start Sorensen over Hart
I am going with Sorensen.. i have a bir def’ ..
Better Bikey as first sub… that much looks to me as a goal less affair.. …its tough for por to score
Giggs is certainly a good option for this weekend but how likely is it that he will play today, tuesday and the following saturday? not very..
For that reason i’m thinking about valencia, probably going to get less point than giggs today but could get more over the long term.. anyone any thoughts?
Even i wanted one of them… But everyone is against it… both are rotation risks..!! If you can have a good back up its fine..!
Then, can you invest 7.5 + M for an uncertain player?
Seems sensible Foch. I’m eying up Valencia for the midweek game but I agree that Giggs may outscore today. Long term it depends on your team, i have gw17ers, Africans and tightrope walkers galore, so I’d be leaning towards the gametime of V over the points scoring of G.
Could be on to something pal, Do you not think Gibson could be worth a shout?
hey guys, just to confirm. have i got my first 11 right?
Hart(sorenson)
Evra Scharner Faye(Dunne)(Zayatte)
Milner Fab Kuyt Bowyer(Dunn)
Roda Defoe Drogba(C)
I’d put Dunn in and use the autosub (he might surprise us). Then I’d consider Zayatte over scharner (likely that both of these will make your XI by Monday anyway)
Meh, ignore me on the Dunn front. If only 2-5-3 was allowed….
Will shawcross start??
unlikely, dont even think he will be in the squad.
Really thought he would be playing, the tweets this week looked promising!! Anyone els with Trilogist?
BBC sport has him as fit….
I thought he was going to play
Just had a quick scan over the net and general opinion is he is back and will start
Is fabreagas doubtful with a back injury, cant find any news on it but prem injury table on physioroom says otherwise.????
c’mon guys, Fabregas = injured?
One question before I go…
Play Dunn? He will then be autosubbed if he doesnt play for Hangeland?
Or just play Hangeland?
hangeland – dunn is definately out.
Who should I play between
Boywer and Alexander?
(I also have Giggs)
alexander simply coz if burnley get a pen, then you have yourself a goal, alexander doesnt seem to miss from the spot.
But how often are there penalties?
I’d go Alexander good chance of a clean sheet, plus Mark has him in the picks!! Always a good sign.
ok so it looks like Alexander then
I am thinking probably bench Alexander as am not convinced that Burnley will be able to keep a clean sheet and how often will Alexander take a penalty? Actually after writing this paragraph I am now thinking is there any point having Alexander in my team due to lowish number of Burnley clean sheets so far this season (3)?
yeah i agree on the cleansheet thing. i just think at home against an inconsistant fulham. they may suprise you.
true enough.
so in the long term maybe an idea to get shot of Alexander as really want a defender to keep clean sheets as main priority (over goals and assists)
Is playing 3 BIR silly? (Johnson/Bowyer/Jerome. Currently have Shawcross, Zayette and Dunn on bench.
Get Shawcross in! Spread the risk
For Jerome? I have Sorenson also
Yes Jerome, I have them both also and will be starting them today, played them both a few weeks back and it paid off.
morning all, have not made a transfere yet because not sure who to swap or captain. any help please would be nice thanks.
I would play Shawcross over Jerome….that way you spread the risk a bit. And Stoke have Wigan at home….should be relatively easy for Stoke to keep a clean sheet in my opinion.
Do you still have both Soren and Shaw? Are you starting both?
Does anyone think Zamora can score two weeks in a row?!?!?
is the pope a muslim?
Was getting Bowyer a false economy buy…will he be a flash in the pan and score now and then? I am thinking I may have to boot him out as quickly as getting him in.
I have a new dilemna,
Have Alexander and Jensen (Burnley) and
Sorenson and Shawcross (Stoke)
Currently I am playing Alexander, Sorenson and Shawcross and benching Jensen and Bowyer. Is that right combination?
Can’t decide my defence :
A) Evra A. Cole Hangeland
B) Evra A. Cole Shawcross
Comments are welcome…
B, as fulham are away at burnley who have a good home record plus stoke are at home to wigan who I can’t see scoring…
Im thinking of benching Shawcross to avoid doubling up with Sorensen and playing Bowyer instead (spread the risk)….good idea guys?
HELP ME!!!
I need some advice as to whether or not so sub in ballack for rodollega, time’s running out!
