While a recent run of results has seen Bolton plummet to the bottom of the Premier League table, an upturn in their forthcoming fixtures offers hope. Though six straight defeats have left their opening day win at QPR a distant memory, the form of Martin Petrov has been the one shining light for Owen Coyle’s side.
The Bulgarian has been an ever-present in the Trotters side to date and, playing every minute of their campaign, has already notched up 4 assists- just one less than David Silva and more than the likes of Nani. Given that we’re just approaching Gameweek eight, this is a significant step up from the form of last season, where the Bulgarian managed a total of five and is indicative of his flourishing role in Bolton’s attacking play.
A total of 32 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points to date has seen Petrov cement his position as a viable mid-price option this term and is all the more impressive considering he’s faced five of last season’s top six from Gameweek two onwards. He’s also found the net, scoring a penalty in the absence of regular taker Kevin Davies in the 2-1 defeat by Norwich.
With a run of games that reads (wig, SUN, swa, STO, wba, EVE) kicking off as of this weekend, Petrov firmly establishes himself in our updated Watchlist rankings. His delivery from out wide- he’s third top for successful crosses this term- and set-piece duties only add to the appeal and it’s obvious that if Owen Coyle is to orchestrate a climb out of the drop zone, his left winger will be crucial to the Trotters’ fortunes.
