The Watchlist- Gabby Agbonlahor

With three strong fixtures on the horizon for Aston Villa, Gabby Agbonlahor makes a leap up the updated Watchlist rankings.

This season has seen the Villa player reinvigorated under new boss Alex McLeish and at present, he’s the third-top scoring forward in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game- only Wayne Rooney and Sergio Aguero have returned more points after eight Gameweeks.

Already, he’s netted 4 times and contributed 3 assists- significantly, this has surpassed last season’s totals of 3 and 1 respectively and Agbonlahor is also proving himself to be something of a bonus magnet. To date, he’s picked up 9 points- last season he failed to register a single bonus point in comparison. Clearly, his game is more suited to the new scoring system, with only Aguero –with 10- returning more thus far. His side’s increased solidity under Alex McLeish and a role through the centre are also contributing factors in this upturn in Fantasy fortunes.

A run of fixtures that reads (WBA, sun, NOR) is promising, then. The Baggies have conceded 2 or more goals in all but one of their away games so far and with Agbonlahor scoring in three of his four home matches, you’d expect him to be amongst the points.

A trip to Sunderland should hold no fear, either- the Black Cats have shipped at least 2 goals in four of their last five fixtures and despite scoring just once on his travels, Agbonlahor has only failed to either score, assist or return bonus in just one match so far- Villa’s 4-1 defeat at Man City last weekend. Norwich’s failure to record a clean sheet this season only furthers his short-term potential.

Agbonlahor has risen 0.7 already but a lowly starting price of just 6.5 means he’s available for 7.2 right now and is a real mid-price bargain on the top of his form. Owned by 17% of Fantasy managers, he’s firmly put Darren Bent in the shade this season with consistent Fantasy returns and looks likely to continue in the same vein before Villa’s fixture list toughens up considerably from Gameweek twelve onwards.

      Good home games as well.

I'd prob be tempted to pay the extra 0.2 for Brown as he is nailed.

just realised there's 6 players between petrov and walters on the watchlist.. think i may just use that to break the 50 50 decision that is petrov/walters and choose petrov

Do you have anyone in your team you consider untouchable but you don't know why?

I've got Mata and because i've got Sturridge the sensible thing to do would be to trade him vDV for Spurs cover. I just can't bring myself to get rid of him. I'll be trading Suarez for Adebayor in 3 weeks anyway.

But I understand your problem... I have Mata too and there is no way I´m ditching him soon... 15 points haul in the cards. 😉

    Re Seb Larsson's 5 bookings/suspension???

Correct me if I am wrong, but don’t League bookings count towards being suspended for Cup games, but not vice versa. Hence why, with 4 league yellows and one cup yellow, Sunderland believe Larsson is available and why he is not on the current official FA Suspensions List:

For perspective, Lucas (5 bookings) is on the Suspended List…

I'm thinking of bringing in VDV but it would mean selling either Nani or Silva. Any thoughts?

Silva is such a great player to watch and has performed in nearly every gameweek. However, I'm just a little worried that the bonus points system rewards goalscorers first and foremost..and while Silva plays well and has 5 assists in the last 4 matches he's started, its not getting recognised by the BPs. Van Der Vaart on the other hand isnt playing as well or for as long but is scoring goals and racking up the BPs.

Is it flawed logic to bring VDV in for Silva?

This is a typical example of transfer that would make you regret later, if Silva scores and VDV has a bad day out. Great players do perform in tough matches.

    Given
    Richards Mertersacker Simpson
    Modric Dyer Silva Tiote
    Rooney RVP(C) Suarez(VC)
    Subs: Vorm, Kompany,Shawcross, Fergie
    I have 2 issues:
1.I have one free transfer, I was thinking to transfer in Bale for Modric as he offers more goal threat & Modric suffers to score when VDV is playing off the striker. Unfortunately Bale has played more games than Luka but he has scored less points.
    2. Am unhappy with my midfield... any suggestions on future improvements to the side??
