Watchlist

The Watchlist – Royston Drenthe

With a favourable run of fixtures on the horizon, Everton should see an upturn in the form that has brought them just three points from their last six games. The last few gameweeks has brought one Toffees player in particular into our Fantasy thoughts – Royston Drenthe.

There’s no denying that David Moyes has a real talent on his hands in the shape of the on-loan Dutchman, though it’s mainly been Drenthe’s questionable temperament that has attracted attention in the past. A Carling Cup dismissal aside, Drenthe has so far let his ability do the talking in his short spell at Goodison.

Due to concerns over his initial fitness, Drenthe had been used sparingly by the Everton boss but, after a couple of months of Moyes’ punishing fitness regime, the Dutchman clearly feels that he’s now in good shape:

“Before I started to play, the manager killed me in training. He made me run a lot and now I feel really fit and great. That’s what I wanted, to be sharp. I don’t want not to be fit and then come into a game and not be able to handle the pressure. I feel good now.”

It’s shown in his recent performances, too. Drenthe has played ninety minutes just twice for the Toffees, away at Fulham and Newcastle, but has returned Fantasy points both times- a goal, 2 assists and 3 bonus points at Craven Cottage was followed by an assist last weekend in the 2-1 defeat at Newcastle.

While an enticing run of fixtures (WOL, bol, STO, ars, NOR, SWA) would typically have Fantasy managers eyeing up a move for Leighton Baines, a look at each player’s stats suggest the Dutchman could be the better option. Baines has played 900 minutes and returned 27 points, with just a single goal and no assists, while, despite playing almost a third of Baines’ game time (312 minutes), Drenthe has already scored twice and produced 4 assists for a total of 33 points.

Given that Baines comes in at 7.8 for a defender, while Drenthe is a 6.0 midfielder, the appeal is obvious. Recent games have also seen the pair share free-kick duties, adding another facet to the latter’s Fantasy potential. With Everton sitting in fourth-bottom of the division and the likes of Phil Jagielka recently admitting morale is low at the club, Drenthe could prove the catalyst to spark the Toffees season back into life.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Sessengon and Bendtner for Fergusson and Suarez for -4pt hit? Bendnter has actually better points per game ratio than suarez (4.6 vs 4.3).

What do people think of the following half time / full time bet:

Bosnia Herz up first half, Portugal to win?

    28/1 on Bet365 http://bit.ly/gOYddM - Pretty tempting odds!

Portugal up and then draw is 14-1, that's not so bad either..

Personally bet on 2-1 to Bosnia 😀 I see portugal going 2-0 ahead and Cristiano to score a fk in 79th minute to make it 2-1 😀 Portugals defense is hurting and the front stars really dont play like a team. Bosnian fans have already managed to piss Christiano off so its looking like they will go down on this one. Aldough Tommy Smith of ESPN, put portugal to win as hes upset special.
Personally like Montenegro to win as my upset special, Chechs are sucky and Montenegro have some nice talent in there.

Drenthe is more explosive and more likely to make something happen, Im not sure he will need a striker to finish for him he should be able to create enough chances himself. Brunt on the other hand probably doesn't have the individual brilliance required to do it alone

What are your thoughts on Vorm/Lindegaard as goalkeepers, having Lindegaard in everyweek and just letting Vorm autosub most of the time.

I haven't been able to pick clean sheets so far anyway so I'm thinking I may as well just leave to chance and get a cut priced Utd GK every now and then?

That's not too bad an idea... wish i'd thought of it.

Risky though, as Lindegaard may get 0 prem starts between now and xmas.

Then again, could be 6's week on week.

Personally i like it, shows a bit of fantasy ingenuity.

Best wait till next week though, eh?

Was discussed here earlier and the unanimous call was that he is too expensive for that strategy if he would be 4 mil that could be worth it. If you look at Van der Sar last season- he was rotated for 5 games in the PL, Lindegaard has already gotten 2 so hell probably get 2-4 more games. Its just not worth the 5 mil.

        silva
        aguero
        Van der Vart/Modric/Bale/Parker
        steven Gerrard
        van persie
        Kompany
        Vidic
        roonpig
        Yaya Toure

Gerrard might be doubtful, but if he was fit he would walk into any team in PL, and opn past achievments makes it in. Torres, whilst he's had a torrid last year, still probably should be in there on past achievements, but I couldn't sub anyone... Pepe Reina as goalkeeping shout.

Seems a bit too convenient though. Two weeks rest from football should sort him out. I suppose it could be genuine though. I guess we'll find out in about a week's time. If he is out then Aguero > Hernandez looks tempting.

I think he may still be carrying the original injury slightly and City would rather he had the two weeks rest than play two international games around the world. I'm sure he would have been risked if they were important City games (as he has been)

He's younger than RVP (and not made of glass) and not a complete polnker like Tevez. I'd argue that because of recent actions MCFC will struggle to get £25m for Tevez - less than anybody else on that list.

Agree on Silva - got everything.

I can understand that Funk, but as a chelsea fan you are no doubt aware that you don't make the decisions, a certain Russian does... and he wouldn't take less than 40 mill for Torres, which in the logic of the previous post makes him more valuable than Suarez. This is all completely divorced from reality, and is just a pointless attack on the logic underling in Sir Giggsy's construction of his most valuable team.

The price you would accept for a player is very different from the price you could get for a player. There is no way in hell, unless theres a billionaire out there even stupider than abramovich, that Torres will ever receive an offer over 40 million. Market value has nothing to with historical pricing. Torres is worth precisely dick these days, I agree with funkyav Torres would be lucky to get a 10 million offer even if abramovich is too proud to admit that better things could be done with 10 million than with torres

Well, they paid £23m but that was based largely on potential as he hadn't been tested in a strong league. He hasn't really done anything to suggest he is worth more than they paid yet (except one moment of brilliance vs United). I don't think Pool would accept that money as there would be an uproar from their fans, who overrate him, but equally I don't think any top league club would pay more than that. One of these Russian / Ukrainian clubs probably would but that's a different story...

    Hi guys,

I have a few issues relating to my team. I am doing alright but in the last couple of weeks my nearest rival seems to be catching me. What are the main issues with my team:

    Vorm Given
    Enrique Simpson Evans Brown Kompany
    VDV Ramsey Silva Walters Dyer
    Rooney Sturridge RVP

I have 1.3 in the bank, only 1 transfer (willing to take hits) and no wc!

    My issues seem to be:

1.Given-Rotates terribly with Vorm, plus villa have not been great with cs's
    2.Simpson-Poor run of fixtures
3.Evans-No longer a starter plus I hate him
    4.Ramsey-Firing blanks
    5.Rooney-Firing Blanks and playing deep
6.Sturridge-FF points are starting to dry up.

Oh my god....I really didn't realise I had that many issues!!!!!

1: I wouldnt take hits on ur GK, and hold out till WC
2: Poor run yes, but they are still a solid outfit unless proved otherwise + hes cheapish & has scored better than anyone else in his range apart from rangel maybe?
3:I have him and im stumped what to do with him. Is he def not starting anymore? Thinking him to Assou as hes .5 less than Walker
4: Keep him as arsenal have a good run of fixtures. Hes a good player, so should come good
5: Hernandez switch id be tempted with as a differential
6:I have him and want him out, so will prob do him to Hernandez

I think your priorities are Rooney, Sturidge and evans....
Rooney- to expensive to play that position...
Sturridge- not regular fpl wise... with rooney's money you can get two good strikers to replace him and sturridge
evans- Jones is the way to go....

      after this

Given out... who to come in? I would go for Krull (bad fixtures however) or Robinson I'm hopping him to score some points from now on...

    Vorm Ruddy
    Warnock Simpson Evans Bosingwa Naylor
    VDV Brunt Silva Mata Dyer
    Agbonlahor Sturridge RVP

    £3.4 in the bank

Am willing to take a hit here:

    1: Bos or Evans ---> Assou/Walker
    2: Sturridge ------> Hernandez
    3: Agbon -------> Hernandez
    4: Bos ------> 4.5m> + Sturridge to Ageuro
    5: Sturridge -----> Dzeko

Is evans done now in regards to starting 11 selection?

My midfield is Silva, VDV, Ramsey, Allen and Walters.

I'm interested in bringing in Sess and Drenthe.

      Welcome,

I would say if you have RVP there's an argument Ramsey is surplus to requirements.

I'd probably bring in Sessegnon before Drenthe though - for the next 4 weeks at least then you could switch to Drenthe afterwards if you like.

I do have RVP up front, so I do feel maybe Ramsey is surplus at times. But then I feel I'm going to miss out on a good haul of points - which is the game I guess!!

I like your idea of Sess in and then Drenthe after Sunderlands good run - Thats a good shout

First post on here. Enjoyed reading the comments

Since it seems to be the way of things I'll post my team up and say who I'm looking to swap out and why

    Vorm/Given

Assou, Woodgate, Brown, Simpson, R Taylor

    Tiote, VDV, Silva, Sinclair, Allen

    Aguero, RvP, Hernandez
    with 1.4 in the bank
A looking at changing the following over the next few weeks
Given - De Gea, not enough clean sheets or saves to justify keeping Given in
Woodgate - Vidic - Woodgate gets rotated and has got me 1 point in the last 3 weeks, Vidic plays every week, likely to keep more clean sheets and weighs in with the odd goal (alternative is Vermaelen)
Aguero out probably for Morrison, Aguero can't justify price tag atm, I need money spare to upgrade elsewhere and Morrison is cheap, in form and plays every week
Tiote out, right now for Drenthe, but am also considering Lennon or Sessegnon

    What does everyone think?
