If you’ve been soaking up the plentiful Scout Tweets or pouring over our daily Scout Scribbles, then you’ll have seen the various snippets of disciplinary news over the last few days. With the completion of the Carling Cup quarter finals, this is a good chance for a round up.

First into the dock in this update is our new best (or worst?) friend Stephen N’Zonzi. The Blackburn midfielder may have thought he’d escaped Saturday’s bruising encounter at the Britannia unpunished, but while his flailing elbows were missed by referee Mark Halsey, the FA panel have stepped in to ensure some retribution is dished out in the form of a 3 match ban. The first of these was served in Tuesday night’s cup tie, so two more games to go means he’ll sit out the fixtures in gameweeks 14 and 15 (SWA, sun).

With N’Zonzi now sidelined and Lucas a doubt with a scan due on his knee, Blackburn’s Jason Lowe has drawn level with the pair on six yellow cards, having picked up a booking in the cup loss against Cardiff. Elsewhere in the cup games, there was a fourth yellow card for David Luiz (for a dive, no less) which adds him to our tightrope list for the weekend games. There was also a case of mistaken identity in that game which saw Ryan Bertrand pick up a card for a foul by Romelu Lukaku- we’ll keep an eye on whether this gets reassigned or not. Neither player is anywhere near a ban though, so no immediate effect.

One face no longer part of the suspension tightrope is Richard Stearman. A yellow card wrongly attributed to him by the Press Association in the gameweek 4 fixture against Spurs had been reviewed and removed- Stearman now sits on 3 yellows to date.

GAMEWEEK 14 BANS

  • Stephen N’Zonzi (Blackburn) – FA Charge (Second of 3 matches)
  • David Wheater (Bolton) – 1 Red for serious foul play (First of 4 matches)
  • Jonas Gutierrez (Newcastle) – 1 Red for 2 bookings (1 match)
  • Antolin Alcaraz (Wigan) – FA Charge (1 remaining match)
  • Karl Henry (Wolves) – 5 Yellows (1 match)

SUSPENSION TIGHTROPE – FOUR BOOKINGS

  • Gabby Agbonlahor (Aston Villa)
  • Stiliyan Petrov (Aston Villa)
  • Frank Lampard (Chelsea)
  • David Luiz (Chelsea)
  • Brede Hangeland (Fulham)
  • Steve Sidwell (Fulham)
  • Yohan Cabaye (Newcastle)
  • Ryan Shawcross (Stoke)
  • Glenn Whelan (Stoke)
  • Lee Cattermole (Sunderland)

    How can you describe Luiz's booking as a dive when he was quite clearly fouled.

      Why get touchy about that? Just enjoy the fact that The Great Manchester United got knocked out of the Carling Cup by Crystal Palace.

        Because I am getting more and more annoyed with the media and various other things criticising Luiz despite the fact his defending is actually very good and he was completely taken out by Coates. There was so much contact that it put him off balance so much that it looked like a dive.

        The media clearly haven't forgiven him for scoring against "The Great Manchester United" last season.

        Can't really enjoy it that much as Chelsea lost to Liverpool and also didn't watch it in protest at it gettting put on tv ahead of the Chelsea game.

        At least this bright new generation of Manure players isn't any good. Especially the jailbird Morrison.

            Genuinely, we do get a very hard time from officials. I'm not sure whether it's a hangover from the Mourinho era, where we were particularly villainous, or because the referees don't like the individual Chelsea players, but we never ever seem to get the penalties we blatantly deserves.

            Especially in the Champions League. It's not even worth us appealing for penalties these days. Every season we get knocked out because of penalty decisions..

            2009: vs Barcelona. Ovrebo. Nuff said.
            2010: vs Inter. Should have had a penalty (and a red card for Samuel) for a foul on Kalou just before half time in the first leg.
            2011: vs Utd. Should have had two penalties at the end of the first leg. One of which was as blatant as you'll ever see.

            And the whole reason we're f*cked in the CL this season is because of the penalty we were denied against Leverkusen, when Drogba was hacked down by TWO defenders.

              Also should have been given penalties against Valencia and both their centre backs could have been sent off.

              You can pick out examples and build a conspiracy like that for every team if you're selective. Referees make mistakes, and they make them when dealing with any team. Sometimes they have bad games and a few wrong decisions go in favour of the same team.

              Here's a good article dealing with ref bias claims:

              http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2011/mar/02/martin-atkinson-manchester-united

              And funny enough, the decision Fergie was complaining about was that Luiz wasn't sent off for a clear foul (if you remember the game, it was a blatant foul and should have been a second yellow). There's also the soft penalty Chelsea were given; the ref wouldn't have been wrong to play on, although he wasn't wrong to give it either.

              There's mention of the 'conspiracy' that Atkinson is biased in favour of Chelsea. There's also the conspiracy that referees are biased against Chelsea. There's also the conspiracy that referees are biased in favour of United. There's also the conspiracy that referees are biased against United.

              They all come from cherry-picking incidents that back up the point you're trying to make and ignoring all the ones that provide evidence against it.

              (Yes, Coates fouled him. No, it's not any more typical of refereeing in a Chelsea match than it is of refereeing in any other match.)

              He can defend though. He has all the qualities, he's just a bit naive at times but he's still young. He's been in the Prem for almost a year but he hasn't played that much becasue of the Copa America. If he gets a long run in the team i think he'll prove a lot of people wrong. Plus, he an absolute HERO!

      Typical Spurs fan. Irrespective of what Luiz, it was 100% a foul from Coates, absolutely nowhere near the ball and he clearly impeded Luiz. Unbelievably poor refereeing, typical in a Chelsea match.

          Ordinarily I would agree with this, but if the dive started before the foul then I'm not so sure. If that happens, the cheating happened first so technically a free-kick the other way and a yellow card.

          PS haven't seen the incident, just talking in general.

        Why must a fella take a kick just to get a penalty? If u see it coming ur gonna try avoid getting kicked and therefore u have no choice but to dive to avoid the tackle. Im a liverpool fan and i think it was a pen.

        2 different forms of diving, 1 to cheat and 1 to avoid injury.

      You don't get booked for being fouled, and rightly or wrongly, the referee's decision is final in this case. So the yellow stands, and the reason given is "simulation".
      I am merely reporting the facts, no bias.

      If you want speculation, then I think had he not tried to make more of it in his spectacular falling, then he'd have had a better chance on winning that pen after all.

    Thoughts on defence change.

    A) Shawcross > Jones/Kompany
    B) Wilkinson > Jagielka
    C) Wilkinson > Smalling

    I'm thinking for A) Jones is potentially rotation risk for pricey defender, Kompany's fixtures aren't as great in next few weeks.

    B) Seems the way to go.

    C) Smalling I would accept the rotation risk on him I think, Rafael/Fabio being fit is a concern with Jones aswell though.

      I wouldn't go with C. I don't think Jones is as much of a rotation risk as you'd think, he'd played 5 games before last weekend so that's why he was rested. I think he's pretty nailed-on.

      Jagielka's a reasonable choice, but I think your team needs one decent-priced stalwart. I'd say Kompany, but his fixtures are about to toughen up, so to be honest I'd say Jones is your best bet - his fixtures are about to improve.

    Morning chaps.

    Planning next couple of weeks’ transfers to end up with this team:

    Krul, Vorm
    Kompany, Jones, Enrique, Simpson, NTaylor
    Silva, VDV, Larsson, Walters, Dyer
    RVP, Adebayor, Ba

    0.9 leftover

    Can I improve it? Thanks!

    So, Help me out here, In your esteemed opinion would balo + silva outscore chicha + Bale by more than 4 points this week, plus who would you rather have long term chicha + bale or rooney + 6 million mid.
    I'm thinking of doing a 4 point hit,
    if VDV is out-
    VDV-> Bale,
    Roo -> Chicha
    Woodgate->Baines
    if he isn't
    Silva->Bale
    and the same.

      Keep hold of Silva (hopefully no more champions league rotation) and get rid of Rooney for Hernandez.
      I'd also look at gettin Evans out for an Everton defender. Hibbert being he cheapest way.

        Ok, how about
        VDV-> Bale,
        Roo -> Chicha
        Evans->Baines
        for a 4 point hit?

    1 ft left, 0,3 in the bank. Team for gw 14 as for now. Considering Bale& Ade in for sessie and Aguero

    Vorm (Ruddy)

    Enrique, Jones, Baines, Ward (Raylor)

    VDV, Sessegnon, sinclair, Silva
    (Ferguson)

    RvP, Aguero, Yakubu

        VDV on spotkick duties. VdV have 1.72 odds to score at paddypower. Bale 2.40.

        But yeah, VDV not surely fit. Its a risk, but not having VDV may backfire hard.

        Also, will not be able to jerk Adebayor inn easy after that either

            Looking more & more unlikely. Even Spurs fans think so. Some of them consider dropping VDV for Defoe. LOL that's extreme but still...
