The Watchlist – Adel Taarabt
Filed under: The Watchlist - Posted by: stilicho
The enigmatic architect of QPR’s euphoric promotion campaign, Adel Taarabt’s haul of 19 goals and 16 assists last season marked him out as the prime Fantasy Premier League (FPL) target from this term’s graduate teams. Undoubtedly skilful, the reproaches of selfishness and defensive negligence torpedoed his two top-flight seasons with Spurs but, with a starting berth for the Hoops seemingly assured, many backed the Moroccan magician to silence the doubters and light up the league.
Though initially priced at a thought-provoking 6.5, a lacklustre start to the campaign saw Taarabt’s investors running for cover long before his transport-themed fall from grace under Neil Warnock hit the back pages. Banished to the bench in November and assuming the role of bit-part player under the old regime, the Moroccan –with no goals or assists to his name- has even made Victor Moses seem particularly prolific this term.
Returning from the African Cup of Nations last weekend, Taarabt was immediately installed to the first-team by Mark Hughes. Partnering Shaun Wright-Phillips on the flanks against Wolves in an aggressive 4-4-2, he emerged with great credit from a threatening display by a ten-man QPR. His new manager was clearly delighted with the Moroccan’s contribution and, having pulled Taarabt out of his hat, Hughes appears little inclined to employ him as a bench-warmer over a run of games (bla FUL EVE bol) that should provide ample opportunity for attacking returns.
New acquisitions Bobby Zamora and Djibril Cisse have already made their mark in a QPR side that suffered earlier in the season from a glut of creators and a dearth of reliable finishers, and Taarabt looks set to benefit from having a more clinical outlet for his technical wizardry. With his price down to 5.8, Taarabt is now in direct competition with Joey Barton (5.8) and Shaun Wright-Phillips (5.9) for those looking to invest in QPR’s midfield over this favourable run.
Barton’s holding role may put him at a disadvantage from an FPL perspective in a setup that promises attack from the flanks, and with Taarabt presumably restored to direct free kicks, Barton’s potential looks more limited under the new regime. With two assists in his last four games, Wright-Phillips is doing his best to dispel his customary aura of frenetic impotence, but whilst Taarabt never looks far away from conjuring up a piece of magic, Wright-Phillips never looks far away from falling over his own feet.
With the wildcard window a homogenising influence on our squads, picking the right differentials has never been more important, and, with just 3% ownership, the new dawn at Loftus Road may well prove beneficial for this summer’s forgotten FPL favourite.
Commenting is now closed for this post.

Sporting Abeergut says:
here’s my last Name & Shame of the week (probably…possibly….not really):
Krul
BAE, JEvans, Richards
Ox, Sess, Bale, Demps, Valencia
RvP, Aguero
Mignolet, Williamson, McAuley, QPR Cisse
already brought in The Ox and he’s risen nicely (which was my plan) BUT feeling like it was a rash action now as other options may have better returns this GW (Ziggy etc) and Ox may be rested.
so what to do?
1) nothing
2) Val > Ziggy or other
any other advice?
February 9 at 8:43 am
tw says:
would probably just stick now. actually depends how much you got valencia in for. but either way id recon you will want him back in a couple weeks so not sure if its worth wasting a transfer or not
February 9 at 8:46 am
Sporting Abeergut says:
got Tony V for 8.0m.
i could always do Ox > Ziggy to cash in on Ox’s rise and bag me a sure starter for this week.
seems weird to transfer him in and out in the same GW but it would be -4 whoever i choose so i guess it’s all psychological.
February 9 at 8:49 am
tw says:
I don’t see a need for you to take a hit this week. Ox might not be rested. or if you are so worried you could always start a defender in his place.
February 9 at 8:51 am
Sporting Abeergut says:
i know but Williamson and McAuley don’t fill me with more confidence this week.
February 9 at 8:47 am
Doosra says:
1), definitely – unless you want to swap Cisse …
February 9 at 8:49 am
Sporting Abeergut says:
Cisse will be out next week to avoid the old strong front eight/who do i drop?
if i get rid of Tony V > Ziggy it leaves some nice cash in the bank for next week.
February 9 at 8:51 am
Doosra says:
You may need him for 28, though …

gents, a little early morning help if you will, struggling to decide who to play from this lot (lost on last page)
Vorm (Krul)

Silva, Siggy, Sess, Valencia, Bale
RVP, Aguero, Ba
Struggling to decide who to drop from my midfield as i fancy siggy but worried about dropping someone like silva.
thoughts? and how do i add a grav when posting?
February 9 at 8:43 am

drop Valencia.

No mercy for good ol’ Sess eh? I wonder why. He’s only 6.5ish and he’s delivering big points. One bad week and you treat him like dirt, Dr Doos?
Tsk Tsk, would you do the same to a Silly or a Nanny?
February 9 at 8:56 am
Doosra says:
Well, he will be back – but I want to catch a Cabaye … so that’s either him or Etherington. Also, I am going to swap Silva to Yaya, and get Rooney in …
February 9 at 8:57 am
elninorules says:
It’s not that I approve of those moves, but I appreciate your balls to go for the differentials. Bring it on, Dr Doos

February 9 at 9:17 am
Manamongst says:
In differential mode and not really caring about a 4 pt hit
Richards, BAE, Verm ———->(Raylor, Shotton)
Siggy, Bale, OX, Dempsey, Taarabt
Zamora(VC), RVP(C) ———->(Ba)
Taarabt (yes, Hughes, not trusting you yet) could easily be Adam Johnson; I’m shipping Silva as he will be the only real ball shifter amongst them until Yaya’s back or Nasri is healthy. Ba could get one this weekend, but I doubt it.
February 9 at 9:22 am
Sporting Abeergut says:
RvP (C)?
where’s the ballsy differential in that?
February 9 at 9:25 am
Manamongst says:
Can’t play around there. Especially when taking a hit, clearly the differentials are in other places.
February 9 at 9:29 am
Manamongst says:
Also, there can be a case to be made (especially after last week) that captaining RVP is a differential, as it won’t differentiate you from the majority or casuals but it will separate you from those over-thinking or unlucky with respectable rankings. Besides, I smell another haul. John O’Shea and Michael Turner have “victim” written all over them.
February 9 at 9:26 am
elninorules says:
Differentials are over-rated. Don’t forget FFS constitutes only 1-2% of the overall FPL population, so FFS non-differentials could still be differentials in the real world.

Manamongst says:
McClean—>Siggy? I think so, the kid (McClean) will break if MO plays him against Arsenal.
Silva—>Taarabt or Adam Johnson? I definitely think either will do better. I think there will be at least 5 goals between QPR & Blackburn; and Silva will be a marked man against Villa and Johnson always comes out with something with a full run. For the most part City could be in trouble this weekend. And so could United.
February 9 at 9:39 am
elninorules says:
If City end up in trouble this weekend, I swear I’ll pee in my pants.
February 9 at 9:41 am
Manamongst says:
Yeah, both sides of my mouth, I need a cleanie! Though Dzeko & Johnson are tempting this week. Johnson is due a big haul…he is a short track bully.
February 9 at 9:37 am
elninorules says:
Spot on, Christian Madam! The footer followed by * is all we should consider even if it means Essien outscoring Wilshere.
February 9 at 9:32 am
Manamongst says:
agreed, I didn’t get crazy. I just need some points where the top 50% are still too afraid to go. Johnson and Taarabt could be those, and I can’t see them bankrupting me. Though I will probably be hiding behind the couch when Newcastle plays…
February 9 at 9:20 am
Rainz says:
Let Valencia sit out for this week? Replace him for Dyer(on my bench) for this week?
February 9 at 9:22 am
Zola says:
Krul, Mignolet
Kompany, Huth, Evans, Simpson, Kelly
Silva, Bale, Dempsey, Valencia, Sessegnon
RVP, Dzeko, Ba
1.5 in bank
Guys I’m torn between replacing Huth as a priority, or raising the funds to do Dzeko – Aguero for the two juicy home fixtures. Thinking either:
A) Huth – Taiwo/Luiz/Shawcross
B) Sessegnon – Sigurdsson
C) Valencia – Sigurdsson
If B or C I’d just let Huth drop in value on my bench and have Aguero (c) for those two home fixtures. Would also help with the dilemma of who to drop from the front 8.

He was just tired, limped off a tiny bit. I’d be very surprised if he didn’t play this weekend. Looked fine to me.

He will start but you and MO will probably wish he didn’t…

Mac says:
Morning all,
In the Huth boat along with a lot of others. Fortunately his large dead team: live team ratio is stopping him from dropping which is handy. Also nobody bar maybe Jevans appeals this week so considering I could bank the free transfer and then sort it out the week after when having 2FTs and probably a bit of spare cash would come in handy. Seem sensible?
Defence for the week would be:
Richards, Kelly, Taiwo (Simpson, Huth)
February 9 at 9:26 am
jinswick says:
Yep, I’m doing the same. FA cup next GW also, so that could spring a few surprises (injuries, DGWs etc….)
February 9 at 9:27 am
stilicho says:
Huth is a long way off dropping, so you don’t really have anything to lose by saving the free this week.
February 9 at 9:46 am
elninorules says:
I’d do it TBH. Do you fancy Taiwo this GW?
February 9 at 9:49 am
Mac says:
Yeah sort of. About as much as Jevans really.

It was played last night. Behind closed doors. Eve 3-1
Drenthe 2 goals + assist.
Hibbert 1 goal
Pienaar 2 assists
Suarez 1 goal(!)

Aguero or Hernandez?
February 9 at 9:37 am
Fratboy - BIGGEST UNDER-ACHIEVER says:
Aguerooooooooooo.
February 9 at 9:37 am
Fred the Red says:
Aguero.
That might be the kindest response you’ll get
February 9 at 9:39 am
Sam says:
Thank you for your kindness, sir. My only worry is that Aguero is raw pish away from home. And that SAF has pretty much all but said he’s going to start starting Chicho up top with Waz.
February 9 at 9:47 am
Fred the Red says:
Yeah but he has DELICIOUS upcoming fixtures whereas United’s decent fixtures don’t start till GW 28…maybe get Chicha then. Plus Aguero is on pens and I for one believe in form over fixtures in Kun’s case despite his ‘away’ history.
February 9 at 9:56 am
Sam says:
Delicious fixtures he most certainly has. I’ll stick for now. Thank you for your advice kind sir.

Who can suggest a transfer for my team. i have 2 FT and i dont like wasting transfers.
Mignolet (Krul)
Evans Richards Kelly (Simpson A.Ferdinand)
Dempsey Silva Bale Sessegnon (Walters)
Fletcher RVP Aguero
+0.5
i dont mind making a transfer and benching him.
I was set of Walters>Siggy but now etheringtons back so i’ll have to keep Walters.
Or should i stick to my original plan of
This week: Walters > Siggy
Next week: Fletcher > Pisse
cheers

Fletcher or Ba this week? Possibly gving Fletcher 1 more GW… Ba could hit a dud vs Spurs?
February 9 at 9:42 am
King Nil Miss✩ says:
If you have Fletcher keep him, Ba could score but won´t go nuts imo.
February 9 at 9:42 am
belha nadaliste says:
agreed. fletcher brace this week. i can sense it
February 9 at 9:42 am
Fred the Red says:
Might as well give him 1 more week at home to Brom
February 9 at 9:46 am

Only thing you have to be wary of is price rise, but if you have money in the bank, ya, go with fletcher.

HBA comes to town?
February 9 at 9:53 am
Manamongst says:
probably, and then he’ll show Alan why he shouldn’t play him. He really has gotten the short end of the team strength/fixture stick. He gets starts with the weakened mid or defense and then gets painted as a poor tracker.
February 9 at 9:46 am
stilicho says:
Good, I’ve developed a genuine personal dislike of the guy after I decided Simpson was “the safer bet” GW2.

Elnino, Jackoff, Sporitng, Gaffer, Others..
Imagining you all have Silva (£10.5m)… Will you trade for Yaya (£7.5m) when he is back? The saved up money to be used on upgrading your defence/forwards.. (my case, hypothetically yours)

good idea if you have aguero, not enough offensive city coverage if you dont.

and yeah. thats what. Just want to plan my Silva exit strategy carefully. I am stuck with no funds and have decided to sell Silva sooner or later. selling silva for thirty silver.
February 9 at 9:53 am
Fratboy - BIGGEST UNDER-ACHIEVER says:
Yes Others!!
I’m thinking about it yes, especially if Silva keeps wasting my bloody investment in him!!
February 9 at 9:56 am
Manamongst says:
He’ll be no different than the Yaya that left before African Nations Cup, Holding mid position 70% and blasting forward the other 30%…I don’t like those numbers, especially when you can’t predict the sides he’ll do it against.
February 9 at 9:59 am
elninorules says:
I wouldn’t.
Four tiers in FPL mids at the moment:
1) Top-notch – Silva, Bale, Nani (fighting for the highest points at the end of season)
2) High PPG but doubts over consistency/form – Sess, Valencia, Dempsey, McClean, Siggy
3) Average PPG and performing upto potential – Sinclair, Yaya, Walters.
4) Average PPG but under-performing (differentials) – Mata, Walcott, Ethers, Larsson.
I would avoid Tier 3 and try to avoid Tier 4 until any of them show a bit more consistency. 1 & 2 is where it’s at the moment.

right, transfer plans, opinions please….
gw26 D Cisse->Ba
gw27 save transfers
gw28 verm, aguero, sorensen->hibbert, rooney, friedel – 4 point hit
friedel is now the cheapest, safest way into the tottenham defense, and starting gw28, will pretty much play every week for the run in. spurs fixtures are great toward the end. solves my sorensen/lindegaard dilemma.
rooney will be the utd attacking coverage i will want starting gw28, and i will be happy with silva and richards still in my squad.
hibbert may seem daft, but i really wouldnt need a defender until gw30, is the cheapest way into everton defense, 4.6 is bargain, and they still have a dgw to make up. starting gw30, everton have a very nice schedule.
still leaves .2 left over in case of rises, but none of the players i want are rising much now and i dont anticipate them to given their respective fixtures the next couple of gws. thoughts?

February 9 at 10:00 am
FuzzyWarbles says:
someone has to be on the front lines. there will be plenty of ridicule about an everton dgw when it comes around to be sure.
still they are a defensive minded club with a favourable run of fixtures plus an extra one, the dgw is just a bonus. albeit a one point bonus.

Ba RVP Auguero
Here’s my thinking
This week already made my 1 FT but is Val > Silva worth the -4
GW26
Enrique > Kelly & Aguero > Rooney (c) -4
Not losing money on Aguero so back to Aguero GW 27 and then back to Roo GW 28 onwards, but will still have Silva and Richards for City cover.
MAD or what?
