Hitting the airwaves early this week, the ScoutCast makes a return to the fray with preparations for the double fixtures still using up our headspace. Mark and I rinse through the latest permutations of Gameweek 36, almost exhausted by the tactical nuances on offer. It’s almost too much for a Tuesday afternoon.

Of course, the podcast regulars rear their head and I do my upmost to keep my chin up despite the mini-league gap: Mark tries desperately not to gloat and fails as always. You never know – maybe all those eggs he’s put in the basket of Gameweek 36 are destined to be scrambled.

I am 55 points behind my Scottish brother in law. I MUST NOT LOSE! what is the best move for me this week?

    a) Rooney out for Cisse
(my rival doesn’t have Cisse and may get in a City player)

    b) Rooney out for Cisse and Surman out for Dempsey -4pts.
(My rival has Dempsey though and it would give me a benching dilemma, I would likely have to bench Valencia.)

    c) Save a transfer

    Would really appreciate some help.

Take away the phantom goal and reduce you guys to ten men with Cech’s foul and its 1-1 with you down a man. I like our odds, there.

Been the story in the past 2-3 months for Spurs innit? You don’t get points for being the “better team” or “playing beautiful football over a period in the game”. Hey, don’t get me wrong: we’re playing poor. Defensively we let in a lot of bad goals and we can’t finish good chances at all.

But the simple fact is that the ball never crossed the line, and cech should have been sent off. I think its perfectly reasonable to doubt if you would score the other 3 goals when reduced to ten men when you guys were being outplayed.

I’m not trying at all to spin how poor we have played lately: but when two big clearly incorrect calls impact the game, that is what happens.

The reality? Of the defense that let in two against Villa? Or four against Villa before that?

I totally agree one chelsea defender for the double is a really good idea. As soon as Baines went down I penciled in Cole. I also agree with your 3 CS opinion.

But doubling, or even tripling is asking a lot. The fixture is good, but chelsea have been very poor defensively all year long. The home games against Blackburn and Newcastle could be games they very well concede. QPR will also, at the very least, be rested, and chelsea has played pretty poor against them this year.

I just think one game is a little dramatic to start acting like a poor defense is suddenly good.

“All year long” is hardly an argument when under AVB, we were having such a high line in defense and that moron was so adamant to change his tactics.

Under RDM, take the home/neutral games:

            Chelsea 1-0 Stoke City
            Chelsea 4-1 Napoli
Chelsea 5-2 Leicester City (without Terry)
            Chelsea 0-0 Tottenham
            Chelsea 2-1 Benfica
            Chelsea 2-1 Wigan Athletic
            Tottenham 1-5 Chelsea – FA Cup (Semi-finals)
            Chelsea 1-0 Barcelona

            That’s what I’m talking about.

3 clean sheets out of 8, one of which against a 10 man stoke? Failure to keep a cleanie against a poor Benfica and Wigan? (who are, admittedly, flying right now) Conceding two to Leicester, even without Terry?

                Yes, it is.

You can’t simply second guess what would have happened if Stoke had all their 11 – they weren’t in the game even with 11 except for one poor chance.

Calling Benfica & Wigan “poor” doesn’t justify your argument.

And yes indeed, without JT we aren’t half as good in defence cos Luiz & Cahill are a mess together. Another reason why we conceded 2 goals to Villa.

Name me ONE team which will concede fewer goals/game in the last 3 GWs.

Chelsea were REALLY poor in that Stoke match. I could have totally seen Stoke scoring. All I’m saying with that one is that its not exactly a great cleanie to be proud of.

I can totally see Everton conceding less goals. Fixtures are better and they are a more reliable defense. with Arsenal improvement, I could see their reasonably easy last 3 matches yield more cleanies, as well.

I don’t think fitness (over-rated) will be too much of an issue for the defenders. I think we’ve got the quality and experience to get a CS in every one of those home games. Agree though, the Newcastle game could be tricky but we’re going to tough to break apart.

Not too confident about our attacking returns though, despite the delicious fixtures. It will all be about scraping the points.

Going to be tough game undoubtedly, but I think RDM will have got his tactics right, after watching the replay of the Wigan game about 5 times. I’m pretty confident we won’t give more than 1-2 goals. My main concern is how Torres & co. could cope up at the Emirates. What a pity Drog won’t manage 3 games in a week, with the amazing record he has at the Emirates.

What is the main reason why people are getting Tevez/Aguero for Rvp/Rooney? Is it solely for this gw? Because after gw36, both rooney and rvp should be likely to score more points. Gw 37 is a tough week where it’s essential to have rooney and rvp. But then again gw38 sees city face QPR at home.

I am sure City could thrash Wolves this week, but still can’t bring myself to get a player for just one gw and then get rid of him come gw36. Thoughts?

Bale is just penciled in right now and could become someone else at this point. I just feel the extra game will give me a better shot than making a sideways transfer right now. It would be so easy for city to be 2-0 up then one of Tev or Aguero to come off around the 60 min make in prep for the Darby. Rest or rotation isn’t totally off the table also and I just dont need the hassle right now.

      Ryan says:

      - I see more logic in having a Tevez say for 1GW than keeping him for the season, mainly because he is a rotation threat once the title race is over. As a United fan I would say the title will be wrapped up in GW36.

      - Aguero is worthwhile for the season, nailed on and on penalties. I just prefer RVP or Rooney over him and wouldn’t want to waste a trade, I see it as a little sideways so it would make more sense to get a DGWer

      - There is always the potential for rotation or early substitutions in a game like this (wolves) so this added risk and the fact that it ignores the DGW opportunities in GW36 means I won’t be tempted to get a City player.

I think that main reason for most is that we all expect our rivals to get a city player in, and are scared of what will happen if we don’t. If he fails, so does your rival.

I think that city will beat man utd, which will mean the title will go to the wire, so you can keep your city striker until the end if you like

Think I’m going against the grain this week and doing Walcott -> Bale.

Rooney -> Aguero is tempting, but I think I’d rather have an extra DGWer. Walcott -> Bale this week and then Rooney, Turner & Kompany -> Baines, Terry/Cole & Adebayor (4 point hit) in GW36.

    Decent plan?

    Migs, Bogdan
    Kompany, JEvans, Skrtel, Caulker, Turner
    Dempsey, Walcott, Valencia, Sessegnon, Siggy
    RVP, Rooney, P Cisse

Exactly. Walcott is looking tired and he’s up against arguably the best LB in the league. Add to this Chelsea are on form and he’s by no means a shoe in for points. Bale is massively overdue, and QPR can’t defend. Reckon he’ll comfortably outscore Walcott this week.

I asked yest afternoon, but let’s try again during the Zef Zone….

    I’m leading ML by 14(2nd place) and 40(3rd place). Second place has 3 DGW’s and 3rdplace has 6 DGW’s. I have 5 DGW’s. All of us have Rooney/Cisse.

Worth doing Rooney–>Kun for this week only and potentially sacrifice a DGW for 36, ending up with 6 DGW’s(no hit) vs rival(40 pts behind) having 8? Only reason why I’m doing it is to push for top 1k(I’m ranked 5.5k)

    Not worth it hey?

Thing is they most certainly won’t. 2nd place might(he has allready used his 1 FT to get Cisse in) so if he does its for -4. Second place rival most def won’t. He is a manU fan and will Rooney(c). I’m 100% sure. He has never even owned Rvp this season!

But I agree, I’m not chasing so bugger them. I’ve fought for a year and the heartache of last year’s gw 38 is still fresh in my mind.

Yes, I’m still (currently) on this decision at the moment. Interestingly Chris Glover’s stats (which are obviously only an indicator) have Cisse, Ade and RVP as the three best forwards to have for the last 4 gameweeks (only applies if you had the same forwards for all 4 weeks). Aguero is marginally ahead of Rooney though.

(Unfortunately these stats rate Pog rather highly, which does indicate the risk in statistical analysis on a small sample size. Probably applies to Cisse a little too, as there’s still a smallish sample for him.)

I’ve shipped Rooney so I’d have no United cover against a pretty average Everton squad.
