Dugout Discussion

Tuesday Dugout Discussion

With the rest of the footballing world tuning in to the occasion at the Nou Camp tonight, the Dugout Discussion opens with it’s eyes firmly fixed on the remaining fixture from double Gameweek 35. It’s not glamorous, it’s Aston Villa versus Bolton Wanderers in a relegation scrap. The team news is in…

Villa XI: Given, Hutton, Cuellar, Baker, Lichaj, Albrighton, Herd, Warnock, Nโ€™Zogbia, Heskey, Weimann.

Bolton XI: Bogdan, Steinsson, Wheater, Ream, Ricketts, Ryo, Reo-Coker, M Davies, Petrov, Eagles, Ngog.

Gabriel Agbonlahor misses out due to injury for Alex McCleish’s side, whilst David Ngog is recalled in place of Kevin Davies for the struggling visitors.

The Dugout Discussion is open and can be accessed right here, with Champions League chat still permitted.

    Any defenders worth a hit to play instead of Turner this week? Current team is;

    BOGDAN, (Migs)
    SKRTEL, Caulker, Turner, (Kompany), (JEvans)
    DEMPSEY, BALE, VDV, Siggy, (Valencia)
    P CISSE, JELAVIC, Rvp
Bank 5.4m (which is just enough to do P Cisse -> Rooney in GW37)

Considering a hit to bring in someone for Cahill. Considering Jagielka(some talk earlier of possibly only playing one) or Hibbert from Eve. Have a feeling Spurs will rebound in these games but would feel much more confident in investment in that back 4 if Kaboul were back. Huth may be worth a punt but would not be confident of cleanies there

Not sure on the dates and that, but it sounds like a pretty solid argument to me. Could do Baines to Terry on that basis, putting the price of Baines to good use and covering the risk of Cahill being underplayed.

Hmmm. Maybe only an Everton defender would be worth a hit. Sunderland seem to think the season has finished already but they're still strong at the back and a good shout for a clean sheet on Saturday, even against a battling Bolton. Due tio Cahill's injury I may have to play Turner myself but I don't think it's the end of the world. Sunderland's final games are pap though and Everton have Wolves, which is about the best possible fixture now.
So, maybe Turner > Distin or Hibbert etc could show you a profit.

Cheers Billy, I think I'm gonna leave it and just play Turner.

It's debatable whether any of the defenders will repay the 4 pointer, and when you factor in that I can't get Rooney in GW37 if I use any of the 5.4m this week, I think my mind is made up.

Just got up and watched the highlights of Chelsea vs Barca, without knowing the score. Unbelievable, what a game. I hope they can go on and win it now - would be a remarkable achievement.
Equally impressive is Bolton beating Villa. Bogdan got my team some points which I also find unbelievable!

Disappointed that Cahill is injured, though, as it means I'll be one dgwer short and will have to alter my plans, or take a hit. Meh.

I think both pretty out there options when you stop and think about them. VDV could theoretically benefit if Adebayor is MIA, whereas Newcastle spread the points around a bit more? Conversely Cabaye has recently been at the top of his game, as have Newcastle, where as VDV and Spurs have not.

    two questions:

    a) who to bench out of tevez, rvp and siggy? (the rest of my attack have two games)
    b) double up on swansea defence or play turner (BOL)

If the season was a couple of games longer then yes, but I think they'll just get out of jail due to a combination of 2 of the bottom 2 playing each other, a couple of tough fixtures for Bolton nd Blackburn, not many games left, and a superior goal difference.

haha no worries, it's just football. Villa's remaining fixtures are...

          wba, TOT, nor.

Blackburn have got away games at Chelsea and Spurs and also have to play Wigan. No matter what the Wigan vs Blackburn result is it's good for Villa because one of them is guaranteed to drop points.

I really can't see Villa going down at all. And I'm trying to look at it from an unbiased point of view. I'd be the first to say they're going down if I thought it was going to happen. I'm very critical.

How dull. A monster DGW and I think I'm taking no hits. Anything scream out as a worthwhile hit here?

    BOGDAN
    SKRTEL, Caulker, Turner, (Kompany), (JEvans)
    DEMPSEY, BALE, VDV, Siggy, (Valencia)
    P CISSE, JELAVIC, Rvp

Bank 5.4m (which is just enough to do P Cisse -> Rooney in GW37 if I don't use any of it for a hit this week)

Yeah, was looking at Terry also. I think if it didn't screw up my Rooney plan for next week I'd be very tempted to have a punt on Terry. Fighting for 4th, 2 home games, CHE on form, Terry pretty much nailed on for both with something to prove after his red card. Damn, I'm talking myself back into getting him!!

Which Spuds are you going for this week?

          Bale and Bale alone, probably.

Choosing between Ramires and VDV for my Walcott replacement for a hit, and then maybe Terry in for Caulker for the other hit.

Nither affects my ability to do Cisse>Rooney, which is nice. I just don't know if I want an 8 pointer.

Jeepers, not much faith in your own team for a juicy DGW and everything to play for?

I'm going Bale and VDV, and possibly BAE for a hit. I think you have to go VDV over Ramires - way way way more advanced and explosive, and on pens if Ade is out (maybe even if he's in?).

Mata is more likely to play both games, but I can't guarantee he'll start both.

It really depends what formation we play in the PL from here on. If we revert back to 4231 we definitely need Mata in the hole.

However beastly Ramires is, he did a lot of work last night and would surely be knackered. We need him at his very best for NEW & FA Cup. I'd think he'll be rested for Studge vs QPR.

VDV/Pienaar in for Walcott/sess or just one of the two and play Sess?

Keep RVP/Tevez or sell for which one for who?

In other news, BATE has stunned Lyon in the CL QFs in one what can be considered another remarkable comeback.

After Gad (Lyon) was stripped off Caulker's bonus point, he needed 3 points from Lichaj to defeat ColeHole (BATE). But his fate was decided in a span of 3 minutes, when Bolton scored 2 goals in that period.

Commiserations to Lyon! So close, yet so far!
