Scout Scribbles – Baines Still Out for Toffees

Leighton Baines remains sidelined for Everton at Molineux. Theo Walcott may return for Arsenal next weekend. James Morrison is back for the Baggies, Thomas Sorensen will take over in goal for Stoke’s last two, while Kyle Walker is fit enough to start for Spurs, despite a broken toe.

Leighton Baines has been ruled out of Everton’s trip to Wolves this weekend. David Moyes revealed earlier that the left-back is making good progress from a hamstring injury but a Molineux recall will come too soon. Victor Anichebe is also out after sustaining yet another groin injury at Stoke on Tuesday, while Jack Rodwell is expected to remain sidelined with a hamstring problem. Phil Neville and Darron Gibson both remain doubts for the Toffees.

Arsene Wenger has revealed that Theo Walcott could return for Arsenal next weekend. The winger was expected to be out for the season after sustaining a calf injury in the Gameweek 35 draw with Chelsea but is recovering quicker than expected and may come into contention for the trip to West Brom on the final day of the campaign, according to his manager:

If all goes well he is back in normal training on Thursday or Friday. Then we have to assess the risk of a setback, so we will see. If all goes well he could be back for the next weekend.

Wenger also admitted Abou Diaby is expected to miss Arsenal’s final two games of the season with a calf problem. The midfielder came on as a sub late in last week’s draw at Stoke but picked up the injury at some point in his 17 minutes of pitch time. Johan Djourou “should” be available for tomorrow’s game with Norwich, though is likely to go handed a bench role at best.

Roberto Di Matteo has today ruled both Gary Cahill and David Luiz out of the FA Cup Final against Liverpool tomorrow. The interim Chelsea boss revealed he hopes the pair will return to training next week, placing question marks against their availability for Tuesday’s trip to Chelsea. With both John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic suspended for the Champions League Final against Bayern, however, it’s conceivable that Di Matteo will choose not to risk either Cahill or Luiz in domestic action – an injury to either would limit his already-decimated defensive options further ahead of the Allianz Arena showdown on May 19.

Alex McLeish hardly has his problems to seek right now. Just three points above the drop zone and with Spurs rolling up to the midlands on Sunday, the beleaguered Villa boss has had to discipline three of his first-team players after an altercation at the club’s player of the year awards on Tuesday evening. Fabian Delph, Chris Herd and James Collins have all been fined for their behaviour and have issued formal apologies for their roles in a night club brawl.

Martin Olsson could return for Blackburn’s crucial home game with Wigan on Monday evening. The Swede has played just 29 minutes over the past three Gameweeks due to a groin injury but Steve Kean revealed earlier today that Olsson has now shrugged off the injury and is on course to face the Latics. David Dunn is available after recovering from a tight Achilles problem, though Kean is sweating on the fitness of Bradley Orr – the defender hasn’t trained due to an Achilles tendon problem.

West Brom have confirmed James Morrison is available for selection for West Brom’s game at Bolton tomorrow. The Scot was expected to be out for the season after sustaining a knee injury in Gameweek 30 but has returned to training this week. The Baggies are sweating on the fitness of Peter Odemwingie, though; the Nigerian is struggling with a hamstring problem. Shane Long picked up a knock in last week’s draw with Villa but is expected to be available.

Tony Pulis has confirmed Thomas Sorensen will take over from Asmir Begovic for Stoke’s final two matches of the season. The Potters boss feels that Sorensen is in need of match practice for this summer’s Euro 2012 with Denmark and will hand him the keeper’s jersey ahead of the games against QPR and Bolton – a blow for Begovic’s 6.7% of Fantasy owners. Andy Wilkinson is recovering from a groin problem that kept him out of the double Gameweek, while Jermaine Pennant and Rory Delap are also doubts, with hamstring and calf problems respectively.

Nigel Reo-Coker is a doubt for Bolton, according to Owen Coyle. The Trotters boss admitted that the midfielder is still struggling with the leg problem that has curtailed his game time in the past couple of matches. Darren Pratley remains out with a virus, Gretar Steinsson is still a doubt, while Coyle also confirmed that Chung-Yong Lee will not feature in the final two games, despite the midfielder returning to first-team training.

Simon Mignolet will return in goal for Sunderland’s trip to Fulham tomorrow. The Belgian was rested for last week’s home clash against Bolton but replacement Craig Gordon failed to impress, conceding two against the Trotters. In other team news, John O’Shea and Nicklas Bendtner are both looking to overcome foot injuries in time for the trip to the Cottage.

Kyle Walker is available for selection ahead of Spurs’ trip to Villa. The right-back, who has been transferred in by over 38,000 Fantasy managers this week, has received pain killing injections on a broken toe sustained in Wednesday’s win at Bolton. Harry Redknapp also revealed he is hopeful of having Scott Parker back for Sunday – the midfielder has missed the last two matches with an Achilles problem but has returned to training this morning.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Already done Tevez > RVP. Squad now:

    Bogdan (Mignolet)
Terry - Walker - Evans (Shotton & NTaylor)
Bale - Dempsey - Valencia - Ben Arfa (Siggy)
    RVP(C) - Rooney (vc) - Jelavic

Fancy doing Jevans > Verm as I can't see Shotton or Taylor doing anything useful, but to afford it need to get rid of Barfa or Sig for someone. I'm just 0.1m short of Moses so considering:

    Oxtail soup
    Maloney
    Scholes

Does that look insane for an 8 point hit? I need to stay ahead (currently about 20 pts) of someone who's still got wildcard to play with.

But, but, but: Verm will repay 4 point hit with goal and/or clean sheet. And Ben Arfa Lager will get 2 points. I guess the main problem is all the other options are rubbish.

Vorm/Begovich as keepers, was planning to play Beg in goal for the remaining games and now he’s not going to play. Is it worth a hit to bring in Schezny? I’m not confident on Vorm’s ability to get points in the next 2 weeks

Not worth a hit. He may gets save points this week and then has a great chance of a clean sheet next week.

Arsenal are likely to concede in both their next two games IMO.

I wouldn't think so, its not like Arsenal are guaranteed a cleansheet in the next two, as whatever Norwich's situation maybe I'm sure Lambert would like for a response from his players after 3 back to back losses. Also the West Brom game will be Hodgson's last in charge, so that may not be fruitful either.

Only 40 points ahead in my ML so still need to play carefully. Current GW37 team:

    Friedel (Ruddy)
    Verm Hibbert Simpson/Caulker (JEvans)
    Dempsey Bale Pienaar Valencia (Siggy)
    Rooney(C) Cisse Jelavic

Main rival has used his FT on Siggy>Moses and I’m expecting this line-up:

    Bogdan (Vorm)
    Verm Hibbert Enrique/Turner (Martin)
    Dempsey Bale VDV Moses (McClean)
    Rooney RVP Aguero

I think the teams are fairly even but my main concern is going without RVP. Considering the following:

    A) Cisse & Siggy > RVP & Maloney for a hit (would bench Maloney this week)
    B) Jelavic & Valencia > RVP & Moses for a hit (cancels out differentials)
    C) Rooney > RVP
    D) Save transfer, then next week bring in Aguero and prob. Moses

    What do you guys think?

If you could change football what would you do, here are my 10 improvements

    - Goal Line Technology
To end debate over whether a ball has crossed a line and make referees less blameable.

    - Make Goals Bigger
Create more goals in games and encourage more players to shoot by making goals 2 foot wider and 1 foot taller.

    - External Timekeeper
Make an unseen 5th official control timekeeping. Simply everytime play is stopped or the ball goes out the clock is stopped. More accurate and makes referees less blameable.

    - Allow 4 Outfield Substitutions
Allow for a fourth sub to be used if needed, to encourage more fringe players getting game time and bring through youth players into 1st teams.

    - Each Team Gets 3 Appeals
If a team doesn’t agree with the referee’s decision they get three appeals through there captain. The decision is video reviewed instantly and the fans are notified via video screen.

    - Sin Bins
Introduce sin bins for minor offences that got yellow cards before to stop players getting sent off for practically nothing. Eg taking shirt off to celebrate, kicking ball away etc.

    - Only The Captain Can Speak To Referees
To stop referees getting hounded only the captain is allowed to speak to the referee. Any other player confronting referee is sin binned for 5 minutes.

    - All Shirts Get 2nd Sponsors And Have To Carry A Charity
To create more revenue an additional shirt sponsor is allowed and to improve footballs image a charity must be sponsored on the shirt aswell to improve footballs image.

    - Cancel Suspensions For Finals
Accumulated yellow cards and red cards are cancelled prior to a tournament final unless they were for violent conduct in order to provide a better spectacle and to let players play in the final they’ve reached.

    - Mic Referees
In order to be able to help fans understand decisions better and to provide better respect for referees.

    Thoughts?

It was Andy Gray who originally suggested bigger goal sizes this way back in 2006 I think. Reason for it is Goal sizes were designed back in the late 1800’s when goalkeepers were an average height of 5 foot 5, now goalkeepers average 6 foot 3 so the goals are too small for them. Originally football matches would have scores of 8-4 regularly instead of the few goals we see today. Bring back high scoring matches. Imagine what fantasy football would be like with 8-4 games

I think this would offset the nice balance between defence and attack. There never used to be an offside rule either - partially explaining the higher scoring matches.

I think its a good thing for the game that its tougher to score goals - makes for better strikers, surely? Just thing about it - often the expression "widening the goal posts" refers to lowering ones standards 🙂

You do know that the ball is only in play for less than half of the normal game? So if this time is added on the matches would double in length, with 20 minutes injury time each half!

When I floated these ideas with my Dad he said the same and told me to time a match and see how much was actually spent in play. Yet to do it but I only reckoned it would add on 10 mins each half and more football makes me happier, agree that 20 mins each half would be madness though

Bale is the safest bet, will probably get an assist or two. Siggy could score, but more than likely Swansea will have to do a heap load of defending and maintaining possession rather than guiding the ball up to young Gylfi.

    Current team:

    Vorm
    Terry, Santon, Kelly
    Pienaar, Dempsey, Bale, Valencia
    RVP, Cisse, Torres

    Subs: Mignolet; McClean, Lescott, Evans

Is it worth doing Evans>Vermaelen & Torres to Adebayor for -4 hit?

Im way ahead in my mini league, just want to finish as high as possible. Also is it worth playing lescott & mcclean?

    Help much appreciated guys, thanks.

I don't think he would bring him in as he hasn't had him all year, but who would know with this guy! http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/325758/event-history/36/ His team is completely different to mine which makes it hard to block him.

Guys, need some advice if you can spare a minute to advise on strategy? Have the following team with £0.9 in the bank.

    Mingolet Bogdan
    Evans Caulker Terry Enrique Turner
    Siggy Bale Valencia Pienaar Ryo
    Adebayor Rooney RVP

Chasing a 6 point lead in my Mini League.

    Rival has:

Vorm Ruddy (keeper options seem screwed this week but mine not the best
    Simpson Cole Ekotto Evans Taylor
    Barfa Pienaar Davies Bale Ireland
    Adebayor Rooney RVP

Which transfer would you make and why? Confident my team is better than his as his but I've thought that for the last few GWs bar the last and not really caught!

Could really use some advice for transfers this week. Thinking of doing Ade to Hernandez, and Evans to Boyce for -4pts. Can’t afford Rooney or RVP without taking more hits. Would you do any different transfers? Thanks in advance!

    Szczesny
    Simpson / Walker / Vermaelen
Van der Vaart / Ben Arfa / Nani / Dempsey
    Aguero / Cisse / Adebayor

            we shall see

McClean and Bale have departed for me

Maloney and Nani have come in. Losing Bale could be considered a risk, but I still have VdV who for me has better form right now. Nani is also a risk, but I think he will start and I think United coverage is needed this week, but I want to keep Cisse until next week, so Nani it is.

that is why I went Nani. I have VdV to cover Spurs, but no United. Also if Hernandez plays, he may steal Rooney's points, he will not steal Nani's as Nani is a shoot on sight sort of selfish bar steward
