Fulham continued to bolster their first-team squad on Thursday with the announcement that Hugo Rodallega will join up at Craven Cottage, subject to the player obtaining a work permit. The Colombian arrives on a Bosman after his contract at Wigan expired and has signed a three-year deal with Martin Jol’s side:

Rodallega’s acquisition helps address the problematic up front area, which has seen Bobby Zamora, Andrew Johnson, Pavel Pogrebnyak and Orlando Sa all depart the London outfit over the last few months and, with Mladen Petric also arriving this summer, is likely to see a brand new front line for Fulham in the upcoming season. Jol, clearly, was more than happy with the transfer:

I am delighted that Hugo has decided to join Fulham. There has been a lot of interest in him from other top flight teams in England and abroad, so to be able to add his quality to our squad is a massive boost this early in our preparations for the new campaign. He is a great addition and I think he will contribute very well to our style and philosophy here.

The Statistics

Rodallega’s professional career begun as an 18-year-old in his native country where, over the course of a couple of seasons with Deportes Quindío and Deportivo Cali, he netted 32 times in 69 league appearances. His performances with the latter earned a move to Mexican outfit Monterrey, who snapped up the Colombian in 2006. The move was far from successful, though; 29 appearances harvested just four goals before Rodallega was sent on loan to Atlas, where he notched five times in 19 games.

Next up was another stint in the Mexican first division with Necaxa, where 25 goals and three assists in 51 matches caught the eye of then-Wigan boss Steve Bruce, who purchased the player in January 2009 for £4.5m. Over the course of his four seasons with the Latics, Rodallega had just one stand-out campaign; in 2009/10, the Colombian excelled as a mid-price Fantasy option with 10 goals, seven assists and 23 bonus points in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, returning a total of 149 points. His overall stats are a little disappointing, though – Rodallega notched 24 times and provided 16 assists in 116 league matches. Having admitted he had no plans to renew his contract this summer, the forward was a peripheral figure under Roberto Martinez last time round – handed a mere 11 starts, he slipped down the pecking order behind Franco Di Santo up front and found the net on just two occasions.

The Prospects

At present, Rodallega looks a strong candidate for a regular role under Jol next season, either partnering Petric in a 4-4-2 or leading the line as a lone frontman, with the latter tucked in behind – as to his initial level of investment, much is likely to depend on Clint Dempsey. The US international comes off the back of an outstanding season and, bearing in mind he was the top scoring midfielder in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, is almost certain to attract major interest from Fantasy managers looking to snap up Fulham’s attacking assets.

Dempsey’s price will also be a key factor as to how we view the likes of Rodallega and Petric; he is now in the top price bracket for midfielders in the Sky Sports game at 8.6 and a jump from his previous FPL valuation of 8.5 could see many seeking alternatives amongst Jol’s squad. A move away from the Cottage for Dempsey, with Liverpool rumoured to be interested, would certainly see us reassess Rodallega’s potential – Fulham were particularly strong at home last term, scoring 36 goals – just three less than Spurs and Arsenal – and proved to be a strong source of attacking points in front of their own fans thanks to Jol’s tactics.

The former Wigan man can be expected to come in around the 6.0 – 6.5 mark in FPL next term, affording us a decent mid-price option as we look to balance the budgets; with the likes of Papiss Cisse and Nikica Jelavic already handed price tags of 9.5 and 8.5 respectively, the need for a cheap third striker looks all the more obvious, with big hitters such as Wayne Rooney, Sergio Aguero and Robin Van Persie all looking likely to be valued around 12.0 or more. Certainly, Rodallega has been looked upon kindly by the Sky Sports game with a price tag of 6.7, compared to Petric at 6.8 and Moussa Dembele’s valuation of 7.7.

Analysing the fixture list, Rodallega is afforded a decent start to the season. While a trip to United and home clash with City hold little appeal over the first six Gameweeks, home clashes with Norwich and West Brom, supplemented by trips to West Ham and former club Wigan, offer a chance to get amongst the points and make an immediate impact in his new surroundings.

  1. Does anyone know for sure when I can start actually making my team?! TOO EXCITED NEED A DATE! :)

  2. Afternoon all, just signed up as a member after lurking for the past couple of seasons! Have checked the FAQ's and can't find an answer, so does anyone know how to get a decent grav from an iPad?

    1. Sign in to this site https://en.gravatar.com/ with the same e-mail ID as on FFS

      1. Thanks, had already signed up here but it won't let me upload a picture from the pad, will just have to wait and use the mrs' mac. Appreciate the replys though

    2. http://en.gravatar.com/ and enter using the e-mail address you used for FFS.

  3. Does anyone know for sure when I can start actually making my team?! TOO EXCITED NEED A DATE!

    1. No, they haven't announced an exact date. They said by the end of the month.

    2. Most probably Monday.

      1. No one knows for sure.

      2. If I was to guess, i'd go for Wednesday.

That way they'd announce 1 player price from each team.

        1. Interesting :)

        2. Interesting opinion ...... Have you changed your username recently?

          1. was scrambles last year but i was more of a lurker

        3. Great perspective!

    3. definately maybe before august 18th

  4. The Sky game is plain horrible to use.

    1. Is it? I was contemplating doing it, but think I might just put all my focus and efforts into this one (FPL)...

  5. Rodwell, N'Zogbia, Taarabt, Mosses(first 2/3rd's of last season), four guys I put my faith in as cheap mid options in the past, any of them worth a punt this time round? Any other value midfield options out there who have failed after so much promise in the past but may come good this time around??????

    1. I think the middle two might well be in my team from the outset. . .

    2. Rodwell - No and might be shifted to right back.
N'Zogbia - Perhaps but wait and see where he will be playing.
      Taarbt - Same as N'Zogbia.
Moses - Depends on price...not worth more than 6m and only if classed as a mid again.

    3. moses if 6.5 or less.

  6. So have people gone off the idea of Harte as a cheap defender? Read on the last page he isn't on pens, is this just based on a friendly?

    1. Yep. ALF took a peno ahead of Harte against Wimbeldon.

    2. The guy is almost 35, plus they've bought in another left back despite the season he had last year, he's not going to start enough games to be a reliable cheap defender. Rotation risk written all over him....

  7. Who is ALF?

    1. Adam Le Fondre

    2. Adam le Fondre

  8. BREAKING: PSG have announced the signing of Thiago Silva from AC Milan

    1. What about Zlatan Ibrahimovic?

      1. No news.

    2. can't wait to see new Milan atack with Dzeko / Tevez partnership

1 of them will surely join to Milan and i would like to see both

      1. What are Inter up to? They need to get the finger out and get over the massive Mourinho hangover.

        1. we are getting Afellay i belive

Inter buying only young players from Argentina and Brazil this days

i belive they will be decent in 2 years

          new coach doing great job

          1. Andrea Stramaccioni. Done alot of good work at youth level i'm hearing. Could be a positive direction for the club in the long term.

  9. seen as it is so quiet around here RMT (fpl not sky)

    QPR 4.5 | Tottenham 5.5 = 10.0

    Terry 7.0 | Stoke 5.0 | West Ham 4.0 | Reading 4.0| Swansea 4.5= 24

    Mata/Hazard 9.5 | Bale/Siggi 9.5 (hoping) | Noble/Nolan 6.0 | Taarabt 6.0| Ireland 6.0 = 37.0

    Torres 11.0| Aguero 12.0| Graham 6.0= 29.0
    =100.0

    1. Can't see much point in a detailed rmt when we don't know the prices.

    2. Am thinking of doing Terry myself....although I do not like the guy!! =o(

    3. Tot 5.5, Bale 9.5 and probably Nolan 6.0 are not happening.

      1. how much u think they will be

    4. i plan similarly in my head to be honest but i would take a punt on kawaga

      1. Yes, i probably cant afford Bale so he would next

    5. would be a poor defence but nice team though

    6. Pointless...

      1. Also, you're dreaming with Swansea 5.5

          1. I think a £4.5m Swansea defender is possible/likely.

            1. Vorm 5.5
              Williams 5.5
              N. Taylor 5.0
              Rangel 5.0

              Who's replacing Caulker?

              1. Chico Flores.

      2. should get more that zero pts in GW1, that lot - i reckon somewhere between 30-45pts...

    7. A bit premature....

    8. Although the thought of Rob Green in goal every week makes me feel a bit uneasy, I might join you with the QPR/Tottenham pair.

    9. May is going to the Olympics so I wouldn't touch him at start of season

  10. Talk sport say Debuchy to Newcastle is a certainty. COntract 'done and dusted'. Should be good fpl prospect, esp if around 5m.

    1. will he cost around 5M?

      1. In real life reports suggest between 5-7mil.

ForFPL I hope about 5.0-5.5 will prob be priced like in the Euros.

        1. The Euro will increase his valuation imo

    2. :-D Lovely. Good fixtures too ...

      1. You have another account here, Doos?

    3. He did well for me in McDonald's Fantasy Euro game. He be contesting against a fairly nailed-on right back, though he can be ultilised in midfield, too...

    4. 5m? Unfortunately don't see it happening. 5.5 at least.

      1. I think you are right. 6m would be harsh for a prem newbie. 5.5m would be about right.

    5. 5.5 i think

    6. I hope Debuchy does go to Toon and at £5.0m, he's a steal given his attacking potential!

    7. £5.5m fantasy price, I reckon

    8. 5.5m and below - he's in!

      1. 5.5 could be realistic imo.

  11. The OFFICIAL Liverpool squad for the US tour:

Gerrard, Carragher, Lucas, Carroll, Johnson, Agger, Enrique, Henderson, Downing, Adam, Jones, Doni, Spearing, Wilson, Kelly, Skrtel, Flanagan, Cole, Sterling, BORINI, Aquilani, Pachecho, Gulacsi, Wisdom, Eccleston, Adorjan, Morgan, Sama, Smith, McLaughlin, Ibe, Ward.

    1. Strange no Suarez... or is that because of the Olympics?

      1. Olympics, actually.

      2. yeah even for chelsea - Ryan Bertrand, Daniel Sturridge, Oriol Romeu and Juan Mata will not be going

    2. liverpool need to bench all 5 of her last year's defenders, get 2 wingers and another striker and then we can win the premier league

      1. All five of last years defenders -- are you fecking crazy? We had a very good defence last year

        1. they are not top quality defenders, reina is past his best he conceded very easy goals ov er hte past two seasons, agger after 5 seasons he managed for once not to get injured, skrtl is nowhere near kompany, vidic, or terry, johnson is solid offensively (when he manages to remain injury free!). i guess u agree on the wingers :)

          1. Reina has been poor for the last two seasons and if the 20m bid that was rumoured last year actually did come in then they should sell.

Don't agree about the rest though...

Johnson - Underrated defensively as his concentration lapses seem to be diminishing
Agger - Top quality and offers something most defenders don't (comfortable on the ball and links the defence and the midfield)
Skrtel - A great stopper but does have his price (should sell if City do come in for him as rumoured) My pet peeve with him is that he man handles his opponent too much and gives away cheap free kicks and pens
Enrique - Started excellently but faded in the latter half of the season. Worth another go but would need to see more from him really as Kelly could play right back and Johnson could shift to the left. Plus, Robinson has cracking potential and could come in to the first team soon.

    3. I thought Suso and Shelvey had been included?

  12. Guys I have a Fifa 12 question

Ultimate team... What happens when the new game comes out to your team? do the players stay at their clubs or are their stats updated or what?

First time doing Ultimate team and wondering what happens when the new season begins with the new game!?

    1. Next season you start afresh...

      1. whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat

        really

So the moral of the game is to sell yer players now to keep the coins!?

        1. And you just do whatever you want, you loose everything for FIFA 13 anyway :(

      2. You don't Parm.

Next season on FIFA 12 everyone stays the same.

It's on FIFA 13 everything starts afresh!

        1. ah shucks so all the effort to make this team is going in a few months

          That sucks, a lot.

here's the team i just finished building

          http://img1.uploadscreenshot.com/images/main/7/19504411261.png

  13. Celebrity EPL Deathmatch: Terry vs Suarez........I'd pay to watch that.....

    1. Cattermole vs Barton?

    2. Tevez vs Mankini?

    3. Barton vs Balotelli anyday :)

      1. Did we not already have that on the last day of last season.....pity the ref stepped in......

    4. Suarez vs Nani. Straight after the first bell sounded, both would immediately throw themselves to the floor, clutching their faces, rolling around in agony. Neither would beat the count. A draw.

  14. Duncan ferguson v vinny jones

    1. noice.....that would be just one continues head butt until one fell over.......

  15. Thiago Silva's transfer fee is €42m.

    1. Good business for Milan!

      1. Better for Juve

Silva is irreplaceable and we won't spend much of the money.

  16. if RVP joins to city and dzeko and Tevez stays i wouldn't be bother for getting any city player apart from maybe lescott

i just dont see valute in them since they will share atacking returns

Jelly,Cisse,Suarez and Adebayour will offer much better valute cause they are main strikers in their clubs and they will be inloved in all atacking returns

so my front 3 could be Rooney,Adebayour and Jelavic

    1. Yeah, will have Aguero for GW1 while Rooney gets rid of his boggy fixture.

    2. Torres, Ade and Cissie for me, I'll bring in the Roon from GW3 onward though....

      1. Torres,Cissie , Aguero with Hazard, yaya, dempsey in mf and Hart and Vorm gks

        1. you won't be able to afford all of that

          1. Will stick with Torres Cisse and Aguero up front. Might not get Hazard straight away, see how he goes. I might get Brett Holman though hoping he will be cheap.

  17. AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!

    1. Thiago Silva to PSG?

      1. Yes, the best CB in the world now plays in the French league.

In one Summer we have gone from:

        Nesta & Silva

        to

        Mexes & Bonera/Acerbi

        1. Nesta gone to the MLS has he?

          1. Yes, his decision as he wanted to leave Serie A as he felt he couldn't play at that level anymore. It would have been better if he stayed another year, particularly with Silva gone, but there were times last season where he looked shattered late on in games so I can't disagree too much.

        2. best CB in the world LMAO!!!!!

          1. Let's hear your suggestions then Forca.

Considering your constant comments about Suarez being the best striker in the PL I'm looking forward to hearing which CBs you think are better than Silva ;)

            1. *gets popcorn and pulls up a chair*

              1. There is a NEW POST by the way but we might as well keep this in here

            2. Terry obviously

              1. Now I'm LMAO ;)

              2. jk ofc ;)

i rate Terry but in my opinion the best CB on planet is Ramos

                1.Ramos
                2.Kompany
                3.Vidic
                4.Terry
                5.Silva

                1. The only one I'd put at around the same level as Silva is Kompany. I'd definitely have the others behind and Terry wouldn't make my top 5. Anyway, I see you rate Silva in the top 5 so I don't feel inclined to disagree further.

                2. i'd put pepe 2nd

    2. Thiago Silva?

    3. good luck with fighting for 3rd spot ;)

Inter is boss in town again

      1. At least I can count in you for some wildly incorrect optimism of Inter's chances ;)

Last season Juve were lucky to win the league, now they are the best team in the league :(

No trophies in the near future for Milan.

        1. *count on

  18. Arsenal starting XI vs Anderlecht: Martinez, Boateng, Miquel, Yennaris, Watt, Eastmond, Eisfield, Lansbury, Jenkinson, Gibbs (c), Chamakh.

    1. NO RVP(C)!!! ;)

    2. Chamakh :P , Get use to it Gooners!

  19. Bored....

    Haxball anyone :?: ;)

    1. I'm sure 'he who cannot be named' is up for a game ;)
