Fulham kick off their pre-season schedule with a goalless draw at Danish club HB Koge. Andre Villas-Boas admits he is determined to keep Rafael Van der Vaart at the Lane next season, Newcastle are looking to bring back Andy Carroll on loan, Dimitar Berbatov is keen to engineer an exit from United, while Paul Lambert is full of praise for his new signings following Villa’s weekend win at Burton Albion:

HB Koge 0 Fulham 0
Martin Jol named an experimental starting lineup for the first half against HB Koge, with Mark Schwarzer the only first-team regular in a 4-4-2. After a less than eventful opening 45 minutes, Jol made 11 changes to the Cottagers side, with new boys Sascha Riether and Mladen Petric both making their debuts. The likes of Moussa Dembele, John Arne Riise and Petric all impressed following their introduction and the trio came close to breaking the deadlock but the hosts stood firm in the face of the visitors’ onslaught to keep the game goalless.

Fulham Starting XI: Schwarzer; Brister, Baird, Halliche, Briggs; Davies, Etuhu, Gecov, Kacaniklic; Trotta, Dalla Valle

In Other News…
Andre Villas-Boas has revealed Rafael Van der Vaart is integral to his plans for Tottenham in the season ahead. Following the arrival of Gylfi Sigurdsson, the Dutchman has been linked with a move away from the Lane this summer, with Bundesliga outfit Hamburg allegedly interested, but his manager admitted that while Luka Modric could well be set to leave, he is keen to keep a hold of Van der Vaart. With Sigurdsson and Gareth Bale also in our Fantasy thoughts, a move away from Spurs for Van der Vaart could perhaps go some way to solving a midfield conundrum but Villas Boas’ comments certainly suggest otherwise – it appears we will have a three-way race for our affinities next term and with Spurs facing (WBA, NOR, rdg, QPR) between Gameweeks 2-5, we’re faced with a major dilemma almost from the off.

With Van der Vaart, at the moment I am absolutely counting on him. It is a totally different situation from Luka, who has been chased by different clubs in the past two seasons and is continuing to drag interest. We have to make sure the club’s interests are met, and it is up to the chairman to decide that.

Liverpool have reportedly turned down an offer from Newcastle to bring back former favourite Andy Carroll to Tyneside. The arrival of Fabio Borini has placed question marks over Carroll’s first-team future at Anfield, with reports suggesting he would reluctantly consider a loan move away from the club in order to prove himself to new boss Brendan Rodgers. The likes of Aston Villa, Fulham and West Ham have all been linked with a move but a return to the Magpies is likely to see Carroll reconsider his options.

Carroll was a huge success in his first half-season with Newcastle in the Premier League, scoring 11 times in 19 games, but as to where he would fit into Alan Pardew’s side is perhaps another matter – Newcastle prospered with Papiss Cisse as a lone forward last term as Pardew shifted to a 4-3-3 with Cisse flanked by Demba Ba and Hatem Ben Arfa. A shift back to 4-4-2 would perhaps usher Ba closer to the exit door and see Ben Arfa drop back into midfield, lessening the latter’s appeal from a Fantasy perspective. At Liverpool, a record is six goals from 42 matches is indicative of Carroll’s struggles, with the £35m man producing a mere 84 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in the season gone by. The local press have revealed there is “much, much more” on the story to follow later today, suggesting the story is more than mere rumour.

Dimitar Berbatov has confirmed he is seeking an exit from Old Trafford this summer. The Bulgarian made just five starts for United last season and tumbled down the pecking order after returning 20 goals in the 2010/11 campaign – Sir Alex Ferguson revealed in March he couldn’t guarantee his game time and with new signing Shinji Kagawa likely to play in “the hole” in the upcoming season, Berbatov’s time at the club seems to be coming to an end.

I want to play, I want to help, but for unknown reasons it’s not going to happen. So it’s better for everyone if we say goodbye. If not, I am professional and I will keep doing everything I can to help my team and my teammates, whenever I have the opportunity to do so.

Paul Lambert took time out to praise the performances of Villa’s new signings in the aftermath of the midlanders’ 2-1 win over Burton Albion at the weekend. While Karim El Ahmadi bossed the game in the middle of the field before making way at half time and Brett Holman grabbed a late winner on his debut, the former Norwich boss also paid tribute to Matt Lowton, suggesting the former Sheffield United right-back could be a key member of the Villa side in the season ahead:

It was a great goal from Brett, it really was. I thought Matty never broke sweat. He was excellent. You wouldn’t think he’s just come out of League One. His performance was really pleasing. He will do great for us. And I thought Karim, everyone can see he’s got quality in the middle of the park.

Lambert also gave the Villa official website an update on the injuries that kept Stephen Ireland, Fabian Delph and Marc Albrighton out of Saturday’s game, revealing the latter could be a concern:

Stevie got a really bruised big toe on Thursday. That’s why he missed that. Fabian felt his knee a little bit. I don’t think it’s too much. Marc is a little bit more difficult at the minute. He could be a little while which is a bit of a blow for us but we will have to wait and see.

  1. Heard a rumour that Walcott could be on his way to Liverpool.....

    1. Is Liverpool even an option for Van Persie to consider? :)

      1. Good one!

    2. That was a rumour 2-3 weeks ago, so probably a source that's a bit slow.

      Be nice to see though.

    3. Downing & Walcott would be a dream come true...

....for the goal-post. (The ball won't even get in the box)

      1. it's shame that you only care for fifa and not for real football

        1. are u for real? downing is totally shite even in real footy!

          1. He's not AS bad as he's made out to be.

            1. u can blame the strikers for not converting some of his crosses but he never looks threatening, never gets into dangerous positions.

              1. He cracked the post a fair few times, delivered quite a few key passes and some dangerous crosses.
Again I'm not trying to say he's amazing but he's not as bad as his fantasy returns showed.

          2. yep he sucks

          3. What do we know?

Suarez kicks RVP's arse in this "real" football.

            1. i am not willing to discuss this topic AGAIN

all i have to say is : ,,we will see ;) ''

        2. Oh right. Suarez is still around.

Goal-posts, you're back on high alert zone!

          1. who you calling suarez?

            1. The "real" one.

              1. are you mad at me or something?

                1. Maybe something ;)

                  1. what?tell me

          2. Oi! My gravatar will outscore your gravatar this season ;)

            1. mine might out drink yours ;-)

            2. Really? She looks really young to score anyone ;)

              1. Hehe. On 2nd thoughts the lady in yours is pretty enough to score plenty!

                1. No second thoughts, Champ.

                  Thought for the day:

You may suck, but you can still score.

                  1. You win this round ladyboy :)

                  2. For what it's worth, you've been lurking around here longer than I thought. Or wait...have you changed your name? :)

                  3. No no always champ for a few years now. I'm OG fpl nerd :P just haven't been on as much as I used to

        3. Well, I can say on behalf of some of those FIFA folks here that we at least manage an achievement that Liverpool could never accomplish - an assist and goal for Downing last season.

  2. Twitter - "BBC Radio reports that Manchester United are about to finalize the deal for Lucas Moura."

    1. seems unnecessary, no?

      1. Oh, right. I forgot. You folks online 24/7 read about it already.

        1. I think he meant Lucas would be an unnecessary buy for United.

    2. That's been doing the rounds for the last 2 days at least

    3. Surely Nani's leaving!?

    4. Then that would complete a three new attacking mids (Nick, Kagawa and now Lucas) for next season when we really need to strengthen the centre midfield area.

      1. Fergie said Nick Powell will be developed as a central midfielder just last week.

  3. reports suggest chelsea are closing on oscar

    1. Whats with all the Brazilian loving? Notoriously not successful in the prem, with a few exceptions.

      1. Vastly overrated. We tend to think Brazilian footballer = magician, this is seldom the case.

      2. They're far to expensive to gamble on.

    2. Since when did sitcoms become eligible for Oscars?

    3. well apparently yesterday spurs were gonna get benzema...

    4. Without Drogba they'll only be good enough at diving for a bafta.

      1. Bit laboured, 3/10.

        1. *Generous* :)

        2. :D
it's the idea that matter. work on the deliver a bit

  4. Valuation predictions for the Gerbil anybody? I am thinking he will come in around 6.5 which could be a steal if Hughes can sort his temperament out. Granted he saw a few reds last season, but his return % from time on the pitch was impressive.

    1. agreed. he'll likely be around 6.5...not sure i want him in my squad though.

    2. Not sure on his value until he's played a few games into the season, but for his price, I'd expect around 6.5 yeah.

  5. FFFFPPPLLLL where are YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. Lets split up and look for clues

      1. thanks Fred. i'll go with Scooby and get into trouble.

    1. *Except trophies... :)

      1. *fingers in ears, not listening*

  6. 3 pm and no price revealings !

could be a sign of things to come tonight...

    1. ^^ A possibility :-) ...

    2. *Takes laptop AC adaptor home for tinkering through the night

  7. Carroll to back to Barcode United building... this reported by the Beeb:

    'FOOTBALL
Newcastle are expected to return with an improved loan offer for Andy Carroll.
Although Liverpool dismissed Newcastle's first offer on Sunday night, the Anfield club will consider a loan deal as long as the terms are improved.
Carroll, meanwhile, has told friends he would now jump at the chance to return to his hometown, having initially resolved to prove Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers wrong during pre-season.'

Question is, how might such a switch affect Cisse and Ba. I have hopes that Demba may not be quite so pricey, perhaps £7.5m-£8m, making him a good mid-priced option, but if Carroll goes back.

    What do we think?

    1. Ashley just wants to rub the following it into Liverpool's face - "YOU OVERSPENT HA HA HA HA!!!!"

    2. Papiss is one of the first names down on my team list, but I may well scrub him if Carroll goes back there.

      1. Not tempted by Ba then Jelly?

        1. Nope. He will probably be valued between 7.0/8.0 and I think there will be better options in that price catergory.

      2. +1000. if Pisse isn't CF for Toon, then he's outta my plans for sure.

  8. Arsenal,Spurs,Livpool will finissh above Chelsa this year

    1. You had me until Liverpool.

      1. To be fair, think me meant LivPool

        1. retared?i can play your game as well so better chill out before i didnt start

          1. Come on Forca, you aren't doing yourself any favours.

            1. he is the one who harshing me....

      2. Recreational drugs can vastly distort ones opinion, throwing logic & relying on 'gut feeling'. Perfect example from Mr. Inter above.

    2. Chelsea 6th? Not likely.

    3. Are you implying a repeat of another top two title-battle of the Manchester clubs?

      1. yes, can't see anyone getting close to manchester clubs

      2. forca's opinions do not reflect accurately the rest of the footballing world and should be taken with a pinch of the preverbial salt!

        1. i seriously can't see Chelsa to finissh above Spurs and Arsenal

          1. ok then!

Is this Spurs who are losing their best player or Arsenal who are losing their best player?

            1. where is Drogba?

    4. You may be on to something. I Don't rate RDM as a manager at all but with that amount of talent they should do alright

  9. Lucas moura looks just like someone. Help me out here. Kinda like kanye west but don't think that's hitting the nail on the head.

    1. Gary Coleman?

      1. Whachootalkinbout Frazek?

        1. :) WR

    2. A mix of Walcott and Rivaldo?

      1. Maybe theo and kanye? I'm defo seeing some kanye in there.

    3. Serena Williams?

      1. I thought Serena would be the last person to mention.

        1. Apologies. Must be a sorting issue you reckon?

          1. Neither.

    4. Like one of JLS?

      1. Hhmm maybe similar to marvin

        1. But not as handsome

        2. WTF man!!

unless you are a girl, you are not suppose to know the name of the members in GayLS

          1. I'm a modern day man

    5. Walcott? Lewis Hamilton?

    6. huddlestone? walcott? cole?

      1. or sinclair?

      2. None have hit the nail on the head yet. Soon as someone does I'll know.. Instantly.

  10. Any predictions for Sinclair or Nathan Dyer's prices?

    1. sinclair 6.5

      dyer 5-5.5

    2. sinclair 6.5 imo
      dyer 6.0

    3. Wouldn't be surpised if Sinclair comes in around 8.0 and Dyer 7.0

      1. surely not...

        1. Perhaps my initial estimate is a bit high, but I think 7.0 for Sinclair and 6.0 for Dyer is not beyond the realms...

    4. Thanks guys, i want Sinclair i think, i just hope he's not too pricey.

  11. how are u all planning to start the season? invest heavily on forwards or look for some cleanies with expensive defs?

what about hits? i personally believe NOT taking hits is more beneficial early on in the season.

also, do mention how your start last season was...

    1. My start last season had a noobie lineup with Rodallega, Vidic, Jones, Ramsey, Mikel, Cech, Nani, Rooney, etc... if only I knew Fantasy Football Scout existed...

    2. I tend to do the reverse and take more hits early doors to beat price rises. Hits my early form but I've traditionally clawed it back when player values make a difference later in the season.

“I am happy with the way I’ve started, but on the other hand, I should have scored four or five more, so that’s something for me to work on.”

Robin Van Persie talks about his early form at United ahead of his first Manchester derby
