The Gunners show their spirit to come from behind and claim the points at Upton Park, as Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott arrive and Santi Cazorla confirms his class…

On the Up

Olivier Giroud
A first Premier League goal, was capped by the assist for Theo Walcott’s winner. The Frenchman has pedigree in his native country but has yet to convince on these shores. He’ll surely take great confidence from this evening’s performance, however, and Giroud could yet present another enticing option up front.

Santi Cazorla
We kept faith with Cazorla in the Watchlist rankings, settling him in third above his in-form team-mate Gervinho: tonight’s performance demonstrated just why. The Spaniard was, once again, superb and this time delivered on his hugely impressive numbers with a fabulous strike to seal the Arsenal victory.

Theo Walcott
A peripheral figure so far in Arsenal’s season, Walcott’s goal and his assist for Cazola’s effort was a reminder of his potential. Contract negotiations are still ongoing – if Walcott can finally settle, he could yet play a role in our Fantasy seasons. Right now, he’s an option that increases the likelihood of rotation in Wenger’s lineup.

Going Down

The Arsenal Defence
Arsene Wenger brought Per Mertesacker back into his back four, dropping Laurent Koscielny to the bench – a decision likely to have been governed by the threat of Andy Carroll. The Gunners backline have now conceded in the last four and, more significantly, with Bacary Sagna and Wojciech Szczesney set for returns after the international break, there is a great deal of uncertainty in terms of personnel. Thomas Vermaelen appears to be the only assured starter, at least until we know more on Kieran Gibbs’ knock that saw him replaced just before the hour-mark tonight.

Gervinho
Giroud’s returns and Walcott’s showing from the bench signals trouble for owners of the Ivorian. Already he was pushed out wide on the right from the off in this evening’s game, only to be replaced by Walcott after 60 minutes after an ineffectual showing. Gervinho’s starting role is now immediately under increased threat, both as a central attacker and on the flank.

Ricardo Vaz Te
The Hammers striker had been enjoying a buoyant start to the season but this looks to have been derailed this evening by a suspected dislocation of the shoulder. Guy Demel also sustained a knock and his prognosis is likely to be a greater concern for Fantasy managers.

Was thinking of switching to this:

    Foster – BEGOVIC,
    Baines – GIBBS – Clyne – GORKSS – NELSEN,
    BALE – CAZORLA – SILVA – RAMIREZ – STERLING,
    AGüERO – BA – BERBA. (£0.7m bank)

federici of course but u can live with foster alone for a while
      guthrie has to go

It would be if you could be assured he won’t come on for a 5 minute cameo on those games he won’t start. Because that will be the case you’ll end up with periodic 1 point returns when it should have at least been a cleansheet.

Far too frustrating for me at least.

why would he come on for a 5 minute cameo?? only reason i’d bring on a defender for the last 5 minutes is if it was a tight game (i.e. united vs spurs when spurs finished with 6 defs) but seems to get forward quite a lot. if it were me i’d probably put on a more defensive defender…

Happened yesterday with Clichy, happened the first week for Kolorov. Wouldn’t exactly be that strange an event.

Also Kolorov has got a total points of 21 with 18 of which came yesterday, I couldn’t really justify having such an inconsistent point scorer in my team. There’s always the chance of being blinded by the recent high score and not noticing the frustration of all the prior weeks.

Adam - Zola returns, Watford is now my official 2nd favourite club says:

    Foster Friedl
    Clyne Demel Ivan Rafael Baines
    Kaca Haz Michu BA Pienaar
    Torres Fletcher Tevez

Considering WC, but if I’m going to do it then need to do it today!
Well up in the leagues so no need to play catch up – just would like to get in Bale and Ba

WC – yay or neigh. Wud appreciate your thoughts?

Adam - Zola returns, Watford is now my official 2nd favourite club says:

No, he’s not going anywhere, hence the question, bringing Bale in will require a bit more surgery

I think Hazard or Mata is a must – stuff the fixtures, they’ll still get points

so what do we think of kags with rooney back now? will he be worse off (rotation and/or playing further back) or better off (he, rvp and rooney looked very dangerous together last week)?

I think he’ll be worse off, and most likely rotated. Once Young his back, he’ll have even more competition. Now is the time to offload imo.

I really think the Rooney/RVP combo can only have a negative affect on Kags from a FF perspective. Shame really I am a fan!

So a slight drop in my overall rankings sees me fall to ~130,000th with a several points lost in both mini-leagues. Hoping to turn that back round in my favour today with 5 of my players still to play, including all of my strikers.

Two free transfers before the next gameweek. How to utilise them?

    Begovic, Jaaskelainen
    Baines, Clark*, Nelsen*, Hughes, Cuellar
Cazorla, Hazard*, Ben Arfa, Dyer*, Maloney
    van Persie, Suarez, Lambert

Those with stars next to them I’m looking to ship out the most.

“I love to attack and I love to go up front...It is a little more difficult than when you are playing centre-back. If you play the way that I want to play, I think my influence is better as a left-back. For the team, it is best that I play as a centre-back. I like to bring the ball out. You need to move the game quickly, and that is one of my qualities as well.”

Jan Vertonghen outlines what he feels is his best position for Andre Villas-Boas
