The ScoutCast – Episode Eighty Five – Kolarluv

Aleks Kolarov is a legend around these parts. Two seasons ago I backed the Serbian to shine, only to be left eggy faced as he City man huffed and puffed without impact. Now he’s back and this time it’s personal.

Having crashed the party with a 20-point haul in his last Etihad encounter, Kolarov is being lined up for a start this weekend and even Granville’s taking notice. Having ridiculed my affections for the player and gloried in his failings, the Mancunian has got himself a crush and he’s struggling to fight it off.

This week’s ScoutCast features a lot of Kolarlove, along with the supporting cast of regulars as Granville steals a mini-league march and starts to sound cocky.

Listen in on the Serbian swooning via this link, or stream the episode via the handy player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    For anyone interested...

    Next year's UCL qualification regime:

    4 teams: England, Spain, Germany
    3 teams: Italy, Portugal, France
2 teams: Russia, Netherlands, Ukraine, Greece, Turkey, Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland, Austria
1 team: the 38 remaining countries who have a league (all except Lichtenstein)

This is decided each year on how the country's teams performed in Europe the previous 5 years.

In 2014-16, Russia, Ukraine and Holland are challenging Portugal for that 3 team bracket. But the challengers have all had club sides knocked out of European competition already this season, making it a lot harder for them.

It would be rather interesting if next year's allocations where decided "live". We could have situations where a teams participation in the UCL could go down to the wire. It would be a volatile system, but might provide more drama and entertainment.

Portugal won't lose their 3rd spot in the next 4 years. They've just had 2 cracking seasons in a row (especially 10/11).
France and Italy might lose their 3rd spot if Russia/Netherlands/Ukraine outscore them in the next 2 seasons (very unlikely in case of the Netherlands after this season's calamity)

Never take a hit to get a defender in. I have Davies and Demel too, but their CS potential isn't that great regardless so will only transfer them out when it's convenient.

Provided Nelsen hasnt lost his place I have a good enough defence to get through next week too. My defence next week will face ARS, REA, ful. So I guess you are right in that I should not take the hit.

Thought I'd reply to your Oscar research here for convenience. Thanks for looking at it by the way...very interesting stuff. I agree with you that it's a lot down to how RDM deploys them all and I think Oscar...while he may have the talent to be the main man all on his own...will likely continue to act as the anchor and end up playing deeper as a result. And I'm not surprised to hear most of his shots have been from far out. I noticed he had loads more shots in one particular game but that doesn't tell you the whole story if they're long rangers for the most part.

I think Oscar's place in the team relies on him doing these extra duties and being the deeper of the three as that's the only conceivable way they can afford to do it. Oscar simply can't have a free role if those other two are doing the same. I think his place in the team is dependent on his adaption to the rules of their gameplan and we may not see the best of Oscar in an attacking sense until that changes or if he's allowed to play as a proper no.10. I guess it's all about maturation and he's clearly the least experienced so must be slowly bedded in before totally exploding.

potential. Maloney has scored 9 points in his last 5 games. Michu might score one but since he is playing as the lone striker he has the potential of doing something, Maloney will give you 2 points, Michu can I least give you the possibility of a big haul.

Maloney , mainly because Michu likely to end up being deliberatly booked to avoid a league ban .

I can see Maloney outscoring because of the yellow but only by a point. However Michu is great at heading and Mancini has zonal marking. Only Michu has a chance to score anything north of 2 points.

Baines, Boyce, Gunter (non starter), Demel (injured) and Davies (mci) will come in for me.
There's too many potential mid/ att points to be gained this week so I've decided to wait til next GW to sort my defence.

Well, I'm quite settled on the Bale and Holt bit. Only these transfers are justfied for a hit tbh. Wilson in for a hit will only backfire if Sunderland score at all. They look pretty set not to, but you should never forget that they still have quality, though it's clicking for some reason.

The dilemma I have, is that I'm getting rid of Pienaar anyway next week, so I don't see a point in having him and playing Noble this week. Mata and Crouch/Kone to come in too. The only thing that's stopping me is Tevez..

Some sensible words from Mason above has made me almost certain to get Bale and Holt and then leave my defence as it is this week. So I will be doing first option I listed on that link.

Playing anyone at Wigan is a good option. See what Mancini says if anything later, none of those players will rise overnight. I got rid of Tevez a while back for these precise moments, not knowing if he will start. I would advise taking the plunge, after this week and perhaps removing Tevez.

This means I'll have to save the transfer, and I kinda don't like this at all, I'm a transfer-addict. 🙁
Though sensibly, I feel it's the right thing to do. Save it and bomb the market with these next week: Pienaar, Cazorla and Tevez ➡ Mata, Silva and Kone/Crouch for a (-4)

I'm considering him over the next few weeks...I think because of the Champions league start he'll probably be benched for Swansea though. It does seem like good value if you were to buy him at the right time...just stick it out for 3/4 games and hope he scores a hat-trick one of those weeks. It's not beyond the laws of probability!

I think the idea makes sense if you think about it in isolation, but when you consider that for the same money you could have a player like Berb or Fletcher--who you know will play and will likely score if their team scores--it's hard to justify spending that money on a player who might get 0 or 1.

For sure, my only case for a punt on Dzeko for a short period would be this...because he plays for City...you might do it in the hope you have him for a few games where they absolutely hammer some teams and he gets like 5 goals in 2 games or something freakish! Then that 7.5 looks amazing value in isolation.

I am really only asking because I cannot afford Kun or Tevez. I already have Berba and Fletcher but am looking to ship one of them and upgrade a little. I have a strong defence and really strong mid, but Long, Berba and Fletcher up front doesn't make me do cartwheels. I agree with Martin that I dont think he starts this weekend, BUT, if we smash them or if we struggle, he'll be on and fancy him to score.

Alreet lads. With no pieannar or Gibbs this weekend, and Kolarov. I could easily be one man down this weekend. And one of those would be fletcher away at stoke. I'm thinking of getting santon in for gibbs (could get gibbs or sagna back later), and Defoe in for Fletcher. Would be for a 4 pt hit. Worth it?

We had the Hazard revolution, The Bale is back chant, The Haz for Caz movement, The Mata is cheaper then Hazard slogan. What is next after seeing Man City in champions league I suspect that in the next week or two we are going to have the Silva revival. Hoping he does not play this week so he can drop another .1 or .2 and have plans to get him the week after to put him with Bale, Mata and Caz in the middle.

Go shag a golf hole. Wouldn't be interested in taking this any further. Peace.

I'm going to bring Bale in for Yaya but in order to do so I need to bring in Wilson for one of Ridgewell or Hangeland..

Which to keep & which to ditch?

That's a tough one. I think Ridgewell wins the fixture duel. But Fulham have looked just as solid at home as WBA...I don't envy you this decision...I'm sorry I can't be much help. I guess if you were to force me I'd say Hangeland needs to go.

Yeah it is pretty 50/50. I initially picked Hangeland in gwk1 so I think I may stick by him
