The ScoutCast – Episode Eighty Five – Kolarluv

Aleks Kolarov is a legend around these parts. Two seasons ago I backed the Serbian to shine, only to be left eggy faced as he City man huffed and puffed without impact. Now he’s back and this time it’s personal.

Having crashed the party with a 20-point haul in his last Etihad encounter, Kolarov is being lined up for a start this weekend and even Granville’s taking notice. Having ridiculed my affections for the player and gloried in his failings, the Mancunian has got himself a crush and he’s struggling to fight it off.

This week’s ScoutCast features a lot of Kolarlove, along with the supporting cast of regulars as Granville steals a mini-league march and starts to sound cocky.

Listen in on the Serbian swooning via this link, or stream the episode via the handy player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Thinking of dumping Gibbs for santon this week to make sure I can play 11. Will be for a hit, but santons fixtures are much better, so it's probably worth it. Then I will get sagna when he gets back. What do you reckon?

Defender in for a hit is tough. Looks like only Gibbs and Pienaar are out for you?

But I have kolarov so that could go either way. I would expect santon to get more than 4pts than gibbs over the next month or so.

You knew this when u got Kolarov though. Best bet is just to hope he plays or just cut him sooner rather than later.

I think you should never take a hit on a defender. Yeah you might have to play a player short but at least you'd be guaranteed to start with zero and not -4. Santon might get a clean sheet or even a goal - but the odds are heavily against you in both respects.

Hits for defenders are usually criminal in FPL. You're better off playing with 10 than taking a hit in this situation as the upside is so low. Just wait and do it next week.

I agree with the general principle that you should not take a hit for a defender. However, if you (a) cannot field 11 and (b) have a long-term plan in mind, than it can be OK. With 10 men you only take, in effect, a -2 if you get 2 from your brought-in defender, and this could be a worthwhile price to pay for a long-term plan move.

If you are taking a hit and ant to get Sagna when he returns, then bring in someone like Kolarov or Riise who have greater attacking potential.

This is why you should never have brought in Kolarov in the first place. He is a waste of space once you get an injury or two in you're defense. You're lucky Kolarov has a good chance of starting this week.

    team for gw9

    Bego

    Baines, Ivanovic, Hughes

    Bale, Mata, Santi, Sterling

    Berba, Ba(c), Tevez(vc)

    Jassi, Ridgewell, Davies, Pienaar

The current plan is to save the FT and then do Ivanovic and Berba -> Rooney and Nelsen. I’m open to other suggestions if you guys can see a better option.

I own Lambert and am looking to ship him soon. He's too much of a rotation risk and I need my 3rd striker playing every game. So not B)
Defoe is a great shout for a couple of weeks while fixtures are kind and Ade is still trying to get fit. But I feel long term he will dissapoint you. Might have missed the Defoe boat a while ago.

Which leaves you with Crouch (who I am also having to consider). It all seems to make sense (form, fixtures, nailed on). But when I see him in my team it just makes me shudder

      I was thinking the same.

Personally i feel that Welbeck is the biggest hinderance to RVP returns. Welbeck seems to switch with RVP in the center while the other goes wide. A combonation of Valencia/Nani/Young on the wings would create far more attacking/creativity for RVP as he could stay in the center much like he did last year.

The sooner Welbeck gets dropped for a winger the better. He cuts in too much to be played as a winger so you see Rooney or RVP often going out wide in the 4231 formation to make way. When United play the narrow diamond it doesn't matter so much as all 3 are central with Rooney as CAM or even CM if Kagawa is playing.

Evening Deadzone.....Michu playing Oop has made me question my original plan.

I was all set to use 2FT for Ivan&Michu>Bale&Wilson now i am having second thoughts. Short term, i think it is the better option. However, long term it might back me into a corner.

If i do it my squad will be

    Federici
    Baines/Wilson/Hughes
    Haz/Caz/Bale/Noble
    RVP/Jelly/Berba

Bench: Foster/Cuellar/Kaca/RBennett and 0.1 in bank.

Ba and Bale have both been my achilies heal these past 2 seasons.

Last year i held on to Ba too long when Cisse went on his run.
Missed the boat on Bale too.
This year I transferred Hazard for Bale after GW3

The Cisse factor has scared me off of him. But it seems like Ba is the main man,,,,Cisse getting bench last week.

I am bringing in Bale this week and I think you should try to do that, but these are not the ones to lose. I would not make the move at all. If you have to get Bale think Haz--Bale.

    Baines / Boyce / Rafael
Morrison / Michu / Mata / Cazorla (vc)

I think you're good. I would say one needs Bale, but you are maxed out on bigs--Caz-Mata-Bale is ideal but you have RVP and Tevez and the price of that is only two midfield bigs. You've chosen your mids and they have every chance of scoring as well or better than a Bale midfield. So leave it.

Strong looking team - I like it.

Michu is one to keep an eye on. At this stage, I am hanging on to him as well - but I'm weary that Swansea's fixtures aren't great.

      Cheers for the replies everyone.

I'm definitely with you on wanting Bale - He's the player above any other I've been trying to work in but, as you have pointed out, it's tough to do so without seriously compromising the rest of the team!

Not 100% sure, but he's likely to ... a few Everton players have been talking up him as a "psychological advantage" and that he's looking fit to play. No better source than the Mirror, of course:

Yeah it's a tough one. If Tevez was guaranteed to start and play 60+ minutes he'd be mny choice, but there'a always that Mancini-ism where he might pull a fluffer at the last minute and bench Tevez for an easy home game!

Not biased cause i'm losing Rafael.. but honestly think evans is the better option(will get him in a few weeks).. CB's are rarely rotated as they need to develop an understandin with each other and rarely get exhausted. Also, Rafael only looks attackin when Valencia plays and covers his runs.. But Val may not even start every week. With Jones and Smalling coming back i'd say Rafael is more at risk.. just an opinion

I'm captaining Ba as I believe everything at Newcastle runs through him at the moment. This is backed up by him being involved in 7 of the 9 goals Newcastle have scored. I expect Newcastle to put two goals past WBA and Ba to be involved in both of them.

I'm not putting the armband on RVP or Bale as both sides have many potential goal scorers and are playing away.

Although if I had Tevez I would captain him, he's due.

      Ba

      + Striker
      + Home
      + Main goal threat
      - WBA are no mugs

      Bale

+ Romantic factor (Had a baby and is playing former club)
      + Saints hopeless defense
      - Away
      - Midfielder
      - Not the main goal threat (Defoe, Dempsey, Lennon)

      Ba wins.

I guess what draws me to Bale is I can't see WBA getting hammered, but I can see (and have seen) Soton getting hammered. I think Bale has a higher ceiling this week, but Ba is probably the safe choice...

But I still think Ba will do better if Spurs win 4-0 and Newcastle 2-0 just because Ba's 70% goal involvement will be a factor.

Ba. He just pips Bale and RVP due to goal involvement and opposition.

Bale hasnt trained the entire week.

Southampton at home play well. So Ba is obvious.

Wba have a good defence but would be tough for Ba to not score a brace

Evening all. Would you do anything to this team/squad. Demel and Pienaar on the bench both injured/suspended, and planning on getting rid of Pienaar im afraid this week or next (depending on advice and a good sleep). Vorm im just stuck with and Long im keeping because WBAs fixtures look mustard coming up....anyhow.....

    Begovic
    Baines Saylor Vertonghen Rafael
    HBA Cazorla(c) Bale(vc) Yaya
    Fletcher Berbatov

    vorm, pienaar, demel, long

Any help would be really great because I am lost. 1ft and 0.1m in the bank 🙁

Your fwds are in shambles....the only one worthy is Berba (arguably for this week only)

Too much $$$ in defense. Keep Baines and sell the rest. Cuellar/wilson/Simpson/ Hughes are all good punts.

HBA is priced at 7.9 when you can have Ba @ 8.3 as Toon attacking cover

Fletcher>Tevez or RVP if you can come up with the Cash

Problem is I dont have my wildcard. Im thinking selling RVP was the biggest mistake of my 2012/13 life.

Keeping Yaya the past 3 weeks seems a mistake.
Getting in Cazorla SEEMS like it might be a mistake, since I had Sterling.
I had Tevez at the start of the season too and then when everyone shipped him out, so did i.

The reason why I just laid it all out here now is that I really am lost.

I am going to take a hit, and replying to Saints, I have been looking at getting rid of Vert for a few weeks now too. So I think Vert out, wilson in and upgrade Berb or Fletcher.

        Berb or Fletch out????

No need for Berb or Flether out.

Get in Wilson and Long for Ba rest looks good

I really dont wanna play Fletch this week at Stoke though, however, next time out they are home v Villa.....smells of a Fletch brace and ill be proper ticked if i get rid of him and he smashes Villa.

            4-4-2 wilson in

If i get Ba in though, i'll have Saylor, HBA and Ba........hmm???

              Dump S taylor for Wilson

Long needs to go out and best option would be Ba.

Differential would be Crouch or Defoe if you dont want Ba

Are you prepared to take a hit?

Vert out (we will score at home) and Spurs fixtures there after dont look great. Replace with someone cheap - Wilson seems to be flavour of the month although this will double your stoke coverage.

Use the cash to upgrade your forward line, it needs it IMO.

    Mata v Hazard

Lamps injury makes Hazard the better option and is worth the higher price.

If you have Haz...not worth the switch to Mata

Haz is on Peno's with Lampard out. imo....that sways the the decision to a "draw" if you have to pick one or the other.

If you have Hazard, go for Cazorla or Bale imo. Or Mata.
