From The Physio

From the Physio – Gameweek 10

This week’s update, sees Dimitar Berbatov fall languidly, once again, firmly on the Scout’s physio plinth, landing a further body-blow to Fantasy Managers, this time squarely in the ribs.

Commenting after the Reading match Martin Jol confessed that Dimitar Berbatov received a pain-killing injection at half-time to facilitate his second half appearance:

“He needed an injection to play in the second half, and showed a lot of character. We need to have a look at it because maybe it’s broken, but it was very painful”

Fuelled with adrenaline from an enthralling encounter and with the character of his team in mind, this is perhaps a slight over-reaction from Jol, as it would be very unlikely, even reckless, for a medic to allow a player to carry on with a suspected, even moderately, fractured rib. To do so, risks further complications, indeed, a punctured lung form an awkward fall or a mis-placed elbow or knee would not be unusual during a football match of the intensity of the Premier League. Of course some football clubs are more ruthless than others, but, even so, a fractured rib would usually exhibit pain and swelling to such an extent that would render them unable to continue regardless of any interventions.

Additionally, it must also be noted that segments of the Thoracic Spine and the surrounding nerve and soft-tissue can often refer pain to present classic symptoms of a cracked rib, so too can a pneumothorax or respiratory muscle damage. These points cast further doubt on such a swift diagnosis before an x-ray could be administered.

On a final note, reports today suggest that Berbatov has the desire and appetite to continue playing until he is 40. The timing of this statement is interesting. Berbatov comes across as an introverted, sensitive soul and such sunny optimism is not usually the mind-set of a player in the middle of an injury. Anyway, if it were fractured and treated Berbatov would be sporting a fetching, compressive corset type garment to facilitate healing and, on recent form, surely this photograph would have found its way onto his Facebook page by now.

Personally, I feel Berbatov suffered a minor soft-tissue injury, which, in all likelihood, will be resolved by the weekend, which should see him grace the pitch at Craven Cottage, as Everton roll up, with the insouciant grace and style to which we have become accustomed.

Have lost my faith in Cazorla.

Is it worth a -4 to transfer him out for Morrison or Hazard?

Someone please talk me into or out of this idea!

Morrison played deeper last week while Gera played in his attacking role instead (worth keeping in mind).

Maybe just while Yacob is out, maybe not.

    Foster
    Baines Gallas
    Bale Barfa Pienaar Cazorla
    RVP

Bego Ba Berba Saylor Wilson Guthrie Gunter 0m 1FT

Currently praying Berba and Ba will play and it's possible Saylor will regain his place now he's nearer match fit. Proposed transfer is Wilson > Cameron/Cuellar, but shall I take any hits to make sure I field 11 and set myself up for future weeks?

    REPOST:

At last looks like I’m settling for Walters/Leighterwood instead of Tarabt/McAnuff for my Wildcard team.

How do you guys feel about it?

I m going with Cuellar,Is it important to free up 0.3 from somewhere & go for Bradsley instead??

    My Team now looks like---

    Begovic/Tremmel

    Baines/Rafael/Cuellar/Nelsen/Gorrks

    Mata/Bale/Pienaar/Walters/Leighterwood

    Ba/RVP/Tevez

played my wc last week but injuries have thrown a spanner in the works...

    Begovic NOR (A)

    Baines FUL (A) / Cuellar AVL (H) / Simpson LIV (A)

    Sterling NEW (H) / Cazorla MUN (A) / Mata SWA (A) / Bale WIG (H)

    Ba LIV (A) / Van Persie ARS (H) / Berbatov EVE (H)

Bench: McCarthy, Maloney, Wilson , Gorkss

    1FT - 0.5m in bank

With ba and berb both injury doubts, I'm going to need to rely on my bench as I don't planning on selling either.

As wilson it out long term thinking of doing wilson -> cameron; good move?

would you start cameron over simpson and double up on stoke def?

Difficult week to pick a captain. A lot of Chelsea fans are convinced Mata gets a rest this GW ahead of Champions League - rumours of him carrying a slight strain too?

Michu is tempting me for captain. Has scored in every home game except one this season, and Chelsea look likely to concede. Michu moved up to a position even further forward too...

    Vermaelen

I have him in my team but has anybody noticed if he is playing differently (more defensive) this year?

Looking at his stats on the comparison tool he looks way less of a threat compared to both Vertonghen this year and himself last year.

Has the change in defending coach made him rope his attacking instinct in more?

Only way to raise the extra 0.4 would be to take an 8 point hit.

          Demel -> nelson
          Fed -> tremmal
          Lambert -> ba

Unless ba price drops 0.1. Then I could bring him in for a 4 point hit.

I think Steve Bould has made him stay back more and not go haring forward leaving the defence exposed. Also without Song there no one who can drop back into a CB position when he does go forward.

        Thanks.

It seems that way to me too, very good point about Song's exit too. I think I may have to drop him then but it would be a real shame as I would be gutted if he then started knocking in goals after I have had him all season. I don't mind paying 7.0 for him as long as he will be in the goals but it looks as though he is playing alot differentely this season.

Not really, Boyce is an adequate replacement. And if he gets 1 pt, so be it, it is one defender slot which usually return 2 or 6pts.

So Why investing on a player who's not sure to start?
Instead go for Shawcross. At least 6 Clean sheets guaranteed in next 10.

Hmm interesting to see that you have gone for Lambert over Sterling, even though you have Foster playing...

I'm in the same position, but have chosen to bench Lambert in favour of Sterling... no doubt we'll have both anyway, with Ba likely to miss out...

I just went with the assured start of Sterling...

In fact Stoke got a CS at Anfield and only conceded one at Stamford bridge. I think i'm going to play Bego as i obviously think Southampton will score with my persistence in playing Lambert 🙂

I know it sounds strange, but I think Stoke tend not to play as well against these perceived 'worse' teams...

Not aguero. Too expensive for what he does and likely to be rested vs villa (they have Real in CL that week). I'm stuck on tevez or ba but think it has to be Ba as he's newcastle's main goal threat, guaranteed to start and unlikely to be taken off early. Obviously just hinges on his fitness.

He will be nailed on if he keeps playing like that... after the last game Clarke had to answer questions on why he'd taken him off after only 60 minutes... I want to hear the press conf to see what he says of Long (was doubtful) but I don't think I can change my mind now - I will buy him and give him the armband!

    My team
    Begovic Foster
    Rafael Baines Cuellar Hughes Demel
    Yaya Mata Caz Sterling HBA
    Berbatov Aguero Podolski

    0,5 in the bank.

Really want to get rid of Podolski, especially since that will guarantee that he will score at least once against Man.Utd, and getting in Rooney(and guarantee that he will NOT score). But am I stupid to not going for Bale in stead?

    So my options are:
A)Podolski and yaya out - Rooney and Gera (he plays in the hole right?) for a -4 hit.
B)Podolski out - Ba in, no hit.

I think he's ok, but there are so many other strikers that are in form and have good fixtures. I'd rather find the cash from elsewhere for the likes of:

Berbatov or Crouch (1m to find)

Tevez or Suarez (3.5m to find)
