Mata Back In Training

Juan Mata returned to training today with Chelsea, on the eve of their Champions League tie with Shakhtar Donetsk. The Spaniard missed Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Swansea with a hamstring injury, along with Brazilian defender, David Luiz. Both were involved in Chelsea’s session today and Roberto Di Matteo remarked in his press conference earlier that the pair will be assessed before he decides on whether they will be included for tomorrow evening’s tie.

“We need to wait for the last session tonight to check the availability for tomorrow and see how they come through tonight in the training session.”

Mata would now seem highly likely to be in the frame for the a return to league action when Chelsea take on Liverpool at the weekend. Indeed, Mata’s Fantasy owners will likely be hoping that the playmaker is handed an extended rest tomorrow evening, to keep him fresh and preserved for Sunday’s encounter.

Mata has been sold by almost 20,000 trigger happy Fantasy Premier League managers this week, having risen from 8.9 to 9.4 since Gameweek 8 following a storming run of form that has seen him fetch four goals and five assists in his previous five league starts.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Team consists of rvp, berbs, giroud, pienaar, mata, bale, sterling, walters, baines, rafa, gorkks, fonte, hughes, begs & jaask
    Do I do
    A) fonte to Cahill, giroud to long for an 8pt hit
    B) Walters to Kightly, giroud to Tevez for an 8pt hit
    C) keep Giroud, take no hits and prey Giroud scores in the prem for a change!
    D) Pienaar to Fellaini, Giroud to Mirallas for an 8pt hit

      Thanks both. My urge to tinker gets the better of me. Halfway house might be just dumping Giroud for anyone. But given that he has just scored and is at home to Fulham, it looks a bit stupid to do that for a hit.

    Did anyone notice that giroud goal was almost a carbon copy of the goal giroud scored against west ham...from a podolski cross, they need to do that more often.

    How essential is RVP? I could get him in for Tevez, but would have to downgrade one of Mata, Bale or Cazorla to a 5m ish mid. Worth it?

      He's not essential, but is a very good option. Saves you swapping and changing constantly trying to get points from the lesser priced players at the right time.

      Not essential but his next 5 games look too good to pass up, plus if Citeh go out of the CL Tevez's PL minutes will probably take a dip.

        Personally I think he's city's best striker all round for ability and desire to win. So if they go out of the CL I'd say he's more likely to get mins.

      With man utd's fixtures he is arguably essential as it gives you a reliable captain for the next few weeks. You can get by without him, but having him makes this game much easier.

      I got rid of rvp for aguero 2 weeks ago, and immediately knew it was the worst decision I have ever made in this game. It was almost like I couldn't realise how important he was until I didn't have him. Brought him back in as soon as I could this week.
