Watchlist

The Watchlist – Adam Lallana

When Southampton manager Nigel Adkins told Adam Lallana he had been called up by England manager Roy Hodgson for the World Cup qualifier with Ukraine in September, the 24 year-old midfielder thought his boss was joking. Even though he plays for an unfashionable club and has only a handful of Premier League appearances under his belt, the call-up was genuine and shows just how highly-regarded the Saints captain is becoming:

Having joined the club as a 12-year-old, Lallana has shown a keen eye for goal, scoring 37 times in 175 appearances, while a constant source of left flank creativity has produced 11 and 13 assists respectively in Southampton’s last two seasons. Already this term, Lallana has scored once in the Premier League and has also notched up four assists to take his Fantasy Premier League (FPL) tally to 39 points, with 37 points also accrued in the Sky Sports game.

With a price tag of 6.0 in FPL and 4.9 in the Sky game, Lallana is priced attractively and has a kind run of fixtures on his side (SWA, qpr, NEW, NOR, liv, REA). This should offer Adkins’ side the perfect opportunity to bounce back after a 2-0 defeat at West Brom last Monday saw them slip to the foot of the Premier League table, with just one win and 28 goals conceded thus far.

Despite the team’s poor form and woeful defence, Southampton are still grinding out attacking chances. This indicates that even if the team lose, Lallana and Southampton’s attacking assets could still benefit from that upcoming schedule. They have only failed to score twice so far and with 14 goals accrued, have found the net more often than 10 other Premier League teams including Liverpool, Newcastle and West Ham.

While Gaston Ramirez offers another alternative in the Saints midfield and Rickie Lambert is bound to acquire interest up top, Lallana’s strong source of consistency gets the nod; he has produced attacking returns in five of his opening 10 Gameweeks. Indeed, for those looking for a cheap to lower mid-priced midfielder, Lallana is among the best on offer; only Swansea’s Wayne Routledge has scored more FPL points in the 6.0 and below category.

        yeah but the yellow card thing and Sunderlands defence has put me off this week. I missed the price rise anyway. If he plays up front and does anything this week it'll be easy to bring him in.

          So was I and have stuck with Pienaar too, he could score just aswell. Would prefer Fellani long term, and will probably get him in next week. Im tempted to do Nolan>Michu instead, what do you think? My midfield is Bale, Mata, Pienaar, Nolan and Sterling. Have 2.4 million in the bank.

            I prefer Fellaini, I am planning on having Fellaini, Nolan and Michu tbh, for their prices they just seem too good to be true. Nolan -> Michu is risky, I'd leave it for this week, I think Nolan might get something against the Toon.

            Not much help really, sorry. It's a tough call!

              thats my worry, Michu at Southampton could be brilliant. Thanks for help, I probably will save and do two next week, and leave the 2 million burning a hole in my pocket.

      should be a good week for you. Both away players look like scoring too, Nolan and Carroll against their former club with an unstable defence, and Michu upfront against Saints defence. Nice

      A couple of interesting differentials in there with DDG and Riether, but it looks good, that bring said your defence looks shaky this week. Williams is not worth 5 million IMO, and I prefer a Bego DDG paring over a DDG Jask one, but those are minor

    For those with Berb - what are you thinking of doing with over his difficult fixtures, anyones selling then bringing back?

    I'm just a bit worried he'll keep going up and I won't be able to, but really not sure if I want him for the next few GW's, especially when I'm only .1 off Ba

      Having seen him play at Fulham when he's on the ball he's very good, but it's about playing the right players around him and stopping him from dropping deeper. When Ruiz played he dropped deep but when Jol selects Rodielga he pushes forward more. With Duff back after illness i'm hopeful that Berbatov could thrive in these difficult games

    Is there any mid-week games, next week? League Cup, UCL? Or just one international friendly for some nations?

    The reason I ask is I want to go transfer crazy, with my two free transfers, over the weekend, before price rises, and without fear of them being crook by the next GW.....

    hmm main rival's defence looks dodgy this week

    Foster (doubt) Ruddy (who knows with Norwich)

    Cashley (unlikely to play), Hangeland (poor fixture) Demel (poor fixture) MOlsson (Wigan away is tough and if Foster isn't fit) Fonte (poor defence, though perhaps a decent goal threat)

              I like your style. I think Vertonghen might be in that category by the season end, and Ivanovic. But for the price, Huth could be awesome, or could be just the same as Cameron at a discount.

      Arsenal only won 1-0 luckily against QPR last home game, and do you still remember Arsenal 0-0 Fulam draw last year at Emirates.

      Swansea is usually toothless at away, it Saints can keep first CS of season, i wouldnt be surprised.
      He can ditch Cashley --> Rafael, Sagna, Stoke defender
      Wigan is unpredictable.

    Baines / Gorkss / ShawX / Ridgewell / Clyne
    Santi / Michu / Barfa / Sterling / Mata
    RVP / Tevez / Berba

    Just looking at my team which i was going to leave but i am considering the following (0.2 mil and 1 FT). Ideally i want New C, Eve and Ars cover...

    a) Leave team
    b) Tevez / Barfa => Ba / Fallani
    c) Michu => Fallani

    Should I take a hit for fun? Berbatov & Bale out, Walcott and Ba in. I already have HBA.
