Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Quiet

With no red cards shown in the fixtures this week, we’d a sparse looking inbox in terms of suspensions, but never fear – there are still some tidbits to throw your way, as the tightrope continues to creak under a heavy load.

Easing that load on Saturday, and perhaps the highest profile of those newly banned for next weekend, Chris Baird is the first to take our interest. Booked for protesting the injury time penalty award for Arsenal at the Emirates, the Northern Irishman had his pain immediately eased by the outstanding glovework of his goalkeeper but a ban still follows; he’ll be absent for the visit of Sunderland next Sunday, with Mahamadou Diarra the obvious replacement should he regain his fitness.

Also doing their bit to free up space on the sidebar widget were Stoke City’s Dean Whitehead and Sunderland’s Craig Gardner, both falling foul of the referee for the fifth time this season in their respective second halves against QPR and Everton. While Gardner will now accompany Baird in the stands at Craven Cottage, Whitehead will be missing a tricky trip to the Boleyn Ground, as the Potters face an in-form West Ham.

Replacing those three unbalanced folk up on the high wire this week we have a former Galactico in the shape of Esteban Granero, and a man capped by France at every age group level (though with the notable exception of the seniors) in Morgan Schneiderlin. Grabbing Southampton’s goal in a 1-1 draw with Swansea which lifted his side off the foot of the table, Schneiderlin also picked up his fourth yellow for unsporting behaviour. The Saints were replaced at the bottom by the QPR side of ‘El Pirata’ Granero, who picked up his censure in the final throws of their latest defeat.

Finally in our round up, it’s the old timers, with Cheick Tioté completing his three-match ban this week to be available for the Gameweek 12 shakeup; he waved goodbye to teammate Fabricio Coloccini who will sit out his second game of three, and QPR’s Stéphane M’Bia serving the last of his trio of enforced absences.

Apologies - repost! 😀 A cautionary tale about Swansea ...

Once upon a time, there were two wingers, who liked nothing better than to ping in crosses from either side – and they were very good at it too! Graham ran around a bit, distracting, while Michu sauntered up, and pinged the ball in the net. Head, feet – it was all the same to him. Then the blonde controller dropped one, and brought in another. The problem was, the new one was jealous of Michu, and wanted a piece of the action! So he started putting in through balls, and persuaded his pal Guzman to do the same. By now, the blonde controller had got fed up with Graham, so he dropped him too. Now Michu was forced to turn his back on goal, to receive the ball to lay it off for Hernandez. Unfortunately, Pablo was not as good as he thought himself, so although he scored a goal, and so did Guzman, Michu was finding it hard. And then the big, bad Adkins put a team on with a marker each for Guzman and Hernandez. No supply, no goals, and no joy for Michu.

Moral of the story – it is easier to slip in behind with pace, than ghost in the front with subtlety …

So, lots of rises going on. Want Feillani but can’t afford to get him in for Michu. Also already missed his .2 rise. Considering Jelly – Berb. Like Jelly’s chances, but Berb’s the main man at Fulham, is rising and great value at the moment. So basically,
    A. Jelly -> Berb (Get in Feillani or Suarez next week depending yellows)
    B. Michu and Jelly -> Fellaini and Berb for a Hit
    C. Save the FT, deal with this next week and miss the rises

    Beg
    Baines, Rafa, Demel
    Mata, Michu, Nolan, Bale
    RVP, Jelly, Ba
    (Foster, Cameron, Puncheon, Clyne)
    1FT 0.3 in the bank
    Thank you.

Silva is not an explosive player in the sense that Bale is...but what he offers is steady returns of between 5-10 pts every week when he is injury free. Add that up over a couple of months and he is a great pick, but don't go thinking he'll score hattricks for fun. He's an assist or two, odd goal and regular bonus kinda guy.

I knee jerked saturday night Ben Affa -> Felaini and Pogrebnyak->Berbatov with my 2 free transfers. Thought I might regret it, but it feels great as I don't have to spend all week worrying about what to do and I think they are both really solid long term aquisitions. My only worry now is who to bench out of Pienar, Bale, Felaini, Nolan, Michu, Tevez, RVP, Berbs.

It's a well trodden debate but I really wish that it did more than just amplify the points for goals, which is what 90% of the bonus points go to right now.

If it wasn't for Baines' ability to rack up the bonus points I would have got rid of him by now.

The way I see it is he will produce a few goals/assists throughout the season and with that will inevitably get bonus points too. I'll probably keep him for the long run.

Granville, you still here? Just read CNN's coverage of the tax avoidance story....Google and Amazon are also involved. Seriously? Dirty b*stards. As big as they are and still can't do things cleanly....

What do you expect? The whole system is corrupt. And yours is worse.

Agreed. Remember Tamany Hall? This is worse...but still tied up with the Republicans. Hopefully Obama will sort some of it out the next few years. Doubtful though....like you said, everything is corrupt. But it's probably better off than if Romney were sitting pretty in DC....in his silk PJ's lined with Franklins...

Starbucks loves Obama. Wall Street loves Obama (and vice versa). Don't expect anymore financial reforms than you got the first four years.

Can players fake injuries? or do they need to show genuine proof to the concerned authority that they are injured?

So many injury news right before international friendly. Hmmm

This was my comment on the previous page:

Wouldn’t it be cool if all these players pulling out of friendlies with phantom injuries was part of a coordinated protest action by clum managers? Finally fed up with pointless firendlies in the middle of high-stakes top-flight seasons they decided that one by one they would declare all of their players injured until none of the (important) matches can be played. That would be sweet. *sigh*

Not good but wil defend the players here- what's the point in travelling world wide for a friendly? Waste of time IMO

I wouldn't say C or D, at least not right now.
